    Fish and Chips Dinner
    Carl S.

Star Fish has officially lost us as customers. This is what they tried to pass off as a fish and chips plate. I don't mind paying extra for quality food but don't count out the fries and toss it over the fish flakes to hid what they really not giving you. Never again

This is a "Large haddock fish sandwich " but they definitely mixed a in two different types of fish to make it large.

Let me first start off by saying this use to be a staple of the community . "Use to be" . Within the last year my last few visits came with red flags and have left me under the impression that this fish place has change hands in ownership without notifying the community and today I think I got my confirmation . Whether there are new owners or not I definitely will not be patronizing or referring anyone to this restaurant or should I say "take out" spot because they want you to place your order and step outside until the food is ready so it's definitely not welcoming . The problem is you can't serve a community for years with excellent, attentive service and then start serving trash and expecting people not to notice the difference. Especially when people are patronizing your business with their hard earned money in an overpriced ,struggling economy. You can't sit down and eat in this place anymore, the prices have gone up , the portions have gotten smaller and listening is not a skill that workers possess . The man that use to run this establishment use to be attentive when taking your order and the food was always fresh . This place use to be popular for its fish sandwiches and now they are just popular for pretending because ain't no way this is the same star fish that served the community for all these years . My order was clearly stated and they still served me whatever they wanted to serve me . I asked for a large haddock sandwich with "no cheese" and to my surprise when I got home I had a half haddock, half whiting and yes my sandwich did have cheese on it . Refer to the picture because Stevie wonder can tell that I was served two different kind of fish on my sandwich. Not to mention this sandwich use to be served with brown bread (if you know you know) I'm disgusted that people think they can serve you whatever they want because new owners or not my last few experiences have been unacceptable. I don't expect a restaurant that has gained the trust of the community to give this kind of poor service and today they definitely played in my face and if they changed owners they are playing in all of the communities faces . The very community that kept their doors open all these years . (Purchased 1/23/24)

    Fish sandwich w/ cheese ~$3!

CHEAP fish sandwich w/ cheese for about $3 bucks & change this HOLE IN THE WALL joint, has no airconditioning so BEWARE because it's HOT inside (but i'd still recommend eating there so that your fried seafood is eaten fresh out of the fryer!) order 1st & pay when your food is ready ---FISH SAMMIE W/ CHEESE: surprisingly served on wheat sandwich bread (don't let this deter you) & you slather it w/ tarter sauce at the counter! the batter on the fish is so light & crunchy, so it's perfect for fish n chips (WHICH THEY HAVE) it's not your ordinary filet o fish at mcdonald's since it's battered instead of flaky! there's a soda machine on the side & i believe they sell some drinks behind the counter as well

Star Fish Market is located at Egelston Square, right beside a public parking lot with a 2 hour limit on weekdays. Though limited in dining-in space with perhaps 5 seats along a counter facing the parking lot and another 5 or so chairs placed by the 3 tables located across from the counter, there is quite a bit of breathing room once you enter through their doors. And good thing too, since business was brisk at lunchtime on the Saturday of my visit. It was a little confusing at first, however, since there was but the one fellow at the counter bagging the orders, so I wasn't sure how to go about placing my order. Turns out he was also the one to talk to about that. Unfortunately, however, since he was busy multitasking, he ended up taking the orders of the fellows who entered the establishment behind me first. Money did not change hands till the food was ready for pick up, and there is a sign posted mentioning their $10 credit/debit card minimum. Their fish sandwich is offered in a few variations: Whiting - Small $2.75; Large $4.25 Haddock - $4.05 (+30 cents for cheese) Porgy (with Bone) - Variable Price Mine was the Large Whiting with Cheese for $4.55 which made for a light yet satisfying meal. The batter was crisp, though the fish was slim between the slices of soft wheat bread. Condiments were available at the counter for self-service. I appreciated that the tartar sauce was chilled, likely due to having been swapped out during my visit. I think I'd like to return to try it in haddock... yet I hesitate... To give you an idea of the neighborhood - When I walked down Columbus Ave toward the fish market, there was a cluster of boys aged perhaps 8-10 hanging out at the corner of a park. As I passed by, the one white boy among his black buddies decided to call out "Ching Chong."

The quality of the fish has declined with the new management.. I think they are trying to cut cost. The quantity of fish in the sandwiches has also decreased. It's a decent fried fish spot but it's definitely not the best anymore!

The famous fried fish sandwich.. So simple yet so tasty.. $2.60!

SKETCHY NEIGHBORHOOD, BOMB FISH SANDWICHES. Came after i got my drank on fo free at the sam adams brewery. Half the store is a fish market that sells a limited selection of fresh fish.. while the other half is a fried seafood snack bar. We got the fisherman's platter ($12.99) which came with fried fish, scallops, clams (choice of whole clams or strips), shrimp, and fries (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/9gThXXiFbAPNMGGFoX8RnQ?select=ifzAmKq_AxBHmy0YJMeZew). We split that among three people, so obviously we were still pretty hungry, especially since the sam adams gave us the munchies for some fried nomnommies. SO we each ordered a fish sandwich($2.60!), which was simply wheat sandwich bread, a slice of american cheese, and a few pieces of fried fish (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/9gThXXiFbAPNMGGFoX8RnQ?select=hw_CdRKWQzQND1MNtCn5lw). SO simple, yet SO tasty! HIGHLY recommend for the price IF youre around the sam adams brewery... don't waste your money at DOYLES. CREDIT CARDS accepted with $10 minimum purchase!

After one visit, it became very clear why this place has remained a waterfront institution since 1925. Don't let the long line scare you away -- that line is part of the proof that you are in the right place. James Hook has a classic no-frills New England seafood atmosphere focused on one thing above all else: exceptionally fresh lobster. There's plenty of outdoor seating available, and on a beautiful afternoon with temperatures in the low 80s, sitting outside under the umbrellas overlooking the city made for a perfect lunch setting. We split a large lobster roll since we had eaten a big breakfast earlier in the day, and it was more than enough for two people looking for a lighter meal. The lobster itself was incredibly fresh, sweet, tender, and generously portioned on a perfectly toasted split-top roll with drawn butter served on the side. Simple ingredients executed correctly -- exactly what a proper Boston lobster roll should be. We also tried the stuffed clam, which had a rich, savory stuffing with plenty of flavor and paired perfectly with a squeeze of fresh lemon. There's nothing overly polished or tourist-trapped about James Hook & Co. This is simply authentic Boston seafood done right. If you find yourself anywhere near the waterfront and want the real lobster roll experience, this place is absolutely worth the visit.

I've never been into cold mayo ones. This time we tried the cold mayo one and it was delicious. Changed my perspective about lobster rolls. This place has limited seating inside and some seating outside. I was bummed they didn't have french fries but it was fine. I took it togo so service wasn't something I could rate. Highly recommend these folks!

I decided I wanted some fried clams, and…read morerather than go to two of the mainstays in the area, The Clam Box or Tony's Clam Shop, I figured I'd give this place a shot. So I go to their website and they have a large order of clams listed at $31.95, and I'm really in the mood for a big plate of clams so I say "what the heck" and order the large. When I arrive to pick up the order, there's a paper sign hanging by the register listing the prices for clams, and suddenly I find out the price I saw on the website was $8.00 dollars! less than what they were actually going to change me, $40.00. Since I have a sense of honor, and didn't want to just walk out without paying for my order, I paid for my takeout and left. Once I got home and opened my order I could see that it in no way resembled what you would expect is $40 worth of clams, I Get clams all the time at The Clam Box and Tony's for prices much lower than this and the amount I was looking at simply didn't justify that ridiculous $40 bill. Now there are other seafood takeout restaurant out there (such as Fred's for example) that allow their prices for clams and scallops to fluctuate with the market. And ALL of them list "Market Price" in the price area of those items on their website. Fish & Chips might show a set price but clams and scallops have "Market Price". Other shops like The Clam Box and Tony's list a fixed price for their clams and scallops on their website, and they HONOR that listed price. Adam's Fish Market does neither of these things, and I can guarantee they will never be seeing another order from me.
