I love this restaurant!! My favorite items are the Fish Tacos & the Swordfish pared with a delicious sauce (I prefer the Asian Pan Sauce but they're all delicious)... They have fabulous sides too, the grilled pineapple & loaded mashed potatoes is a favorite as well as the black beans! And they have homemade potato chips that come out warm & they're great served along side the "Fish & Chips" with some malt vinegar or the Crab Cakes! Their burgers are good too but fish is their thing! It always tastes very fresh, never over cooked & seasoned perfectly!!! Mmmm Mmm Mmmm! Give this place a try... The only downside is that they close too early in the evening, like 8-9pm even on weekends! . Please extend your hours guys!!!! This was a really cool place to eat. Set right off of main street and right around the corner from the Liberty Outlets, Blue Fish Grill proves to be an excellent choice whether its lunch time or dinner. What makes this restaurant unique is that it is connected to a cafe. The waiter we had was very kind, helpful and knowledgeable. Although the menu isnt large, I had a hard time deciding because everything seemed fairly appetizing. The waiter gave me his suggestions and I ultimately went with one of his options; Baja Tacos. I have to say, I was surprised how good they actually were. The portion size was generous, and the food was pretty clean. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience and i would go there again. I've been going to BFG since the original location! Growing up on their BFG tacos and crab cake sandwiches! Their fries have sugar and man are they amazing! I hosted a private celebratory dinner for my family of 20 at Blue Fish Grill. They set everything up beautifully and were so attentive to us the entire evening. The event was in the upstairs space (for a negotiable fee) for the whole night and it even had its own private bathroom. They had a cute dining area downstairs too. The ahi tuna nachos were absolutely amazing (I could have had for dinner alone), a great Cesar salad and I thought the Kimchi potato salad was such a unique menu item. The dinner entrees were also good and especially the Barramundi dish. They also had a few great veggie options for my mom. Jennifer was easy to work with and Tommy was an awesome Server. I had family coming from near Allentown, PA, Northern and Central NJ and this was a great central location (took approx an hour for everyone). If I'm back in the Flemington area or need to get this gang back together again, I would definitely go back. read more

We've been coming to Blue Fish Grill for years. At one point we were coming as often as once a week on a regular basis (it WAS that good), but I'm sorry to say that after our last couple of meals here I doubt that we'll ever come back. The staple of the Blue Fish Grill for years was their Mahi-mahi, Latin Bowl, Big Fish Burrito and Fish Tacos. These items are no longer on the menu because the Blue Fish Grill no longer offers Mahi-mahi or Tilapia. Really? The only "fish" the Blue Fish Grill now serves is tuna and salmon. While they still offer shrimp and scallops (which by the way they ran out of at 8PM on a Saturday night), I think they need to drop the word "Fish" from their name and just go with the "Blue Grill" instead. Service has also gone done hill here as well. The Mojo Mariscos entree my wife ordered said that it was served with scallops, shrimp and mussels but when it was brought to the table, only shrimp and mussels were in it. When we questioned our server about the missing scallops, she curtly replied "I said we were out of scallops", which of course she never did otherwise she would have ordered something else. No apology, no offer of "would you like something else instead"? It's a shame because this really used to be a great place with excellent food and friendly service. read more

So many times we went to the old place. Kids loved it, we had cravings for their food. Not anymore. Went couple times to the new location. It was not bad but something was missing. This time we went for lunch and called it quit. For the amount they are charging there is very little food on the plate and it is not that great. Flavors are off, menu is different, more limited and all screwed-up. Luckily we are not locals and are not stuck with this place. But we for sure will be missing old one when we shopping in the area next time. read more

I hadn't heard of this place before, but went last night for a birthday dinner. By far the best thing about this restaurant was the service. Our waiter was Karim. He went out of his way to make sure we had a good time and enjoyed our dinner. Someone in our party made a wrong turn on his way to the restaurant, and Karim got on the phone with him for 10 minutes to give him directions. Throughout the whole night, Karim made recommendations and made us laugh. The food was great. It had a simple menu but everything was cooked perfectly. We got the mussles as an appetizer, and the curry sauce that they came in was definitely the best part. I got the ahi tuna tuna as my dinner. Karim recommended that I can get it cooked medium rare. It was the best Ahi tuna that I have had. The fries were seasoned very well. Overall, I had no complaints at all with the Blue Fish Grill. I will definitely come back here and hope to see Karim. read more

I've been craving fish tacos for weeks and haven't been able to find a place that really knocked my socks off...until now. Omg sooo delicious!!! We tried the mahi mahi tacos (grilled, not fried tho...so much healthier/better tasting that way) and the medium rare tuna fish tacos....equally delicious!!! For an appetizer, we had the plantains. They were so yummy and the sauce on top was a nice marriage of spicy w sweet. Our server was really sweet too. Would def go back again!! read more

After avoiding Flemington's two relatively new fish restaurants because well, Hunterdon County is pretty much not that good for much of anything foodwise so expectations were low, we finally tried them both. Blue Fish Grill was the better of the two. The service was very good here, attentive without being in-your-face or rushed. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was busy but not packed. I had a salmon and plantain burrito which was a daily special and not on the menu. It's quite an odd looking thing as they cover it and the entire plate with a black bean sauce and streaks of sour cream so it almost looks like they're serving you a giant plate of squid Ink. It was very good! It was also so large I had to take about half of it home. My partner had a crab cake, calamari, and a quinoa salad. All three were quite good according to him- I tried the crab and the quinoa and agreed. The only issue we had and the reason why I almost didn't write a review at all (we went a month ago) was that there was a hair in the calamari. But since we just went to Dockside tonight, and I reviewed that, I figured I need to write about BFG too. This is another example of why I say Hunterdon is so average on food. We had the same thing happen to us at the very highly touted Liberty Hall in Lambertville where we were halfway through a very good beet salad when I pulled a long hair off my fork as it entered my mouth along with the walnuts and feta it was entangled in. Despite that little issue, we decided we'd definitely go back to Blue Fish, which is something we decided against regarding Dockside (although we haven't been back to Liberty Hall). read more

Stopped here after a nearby skydiving trip. What a lucky find! Everything we had was tasty especially the mussel appetizer. The fish tacos and teriyaki rice bowl with skirt steak were excellent as well! Karim was by far one of the nicest and most personable servers I've had in my life. It's a bit of a drive but if I'm ever in the area again I'm definitely returning. I come here at least once a month and usually more. For the quality of food you really can't touch their pricing and the fact that it's BYOB, nobody's mad. It has a great atmosphere and everyone who works here is extremely nice and knowledgeable. A friend found this restaurant on Open Table when we were looking for a place to meet up for lunch. The menu looked great and we were not disappointed! Lunch prices were on par with the quality of food and service. I have paid essentially the same price for lunch at a chain restaurant and not had nearly the level of food and service received here. Everything was very tasty, our waiter on point and even the little things were handled well. As an example, the waiter heard me say I wanted to taste my husband's soup as we were ordering and brought a second spoon. If I had to give any critique on the food it would be that it needed slightly more acid. The flavors were still fantastic, and again, the dishes were worth the price. Great spot for lunch and I can't wait to try it for dinner. The only thing you should know is that it's a BYOB place and the restrooms are shared with the rest of the historic factory building they're located in. read more

Just a friendly, friendly bunch of people working here. And it doesn't hurt that the food is delicious! I usually start with the fried Calamari. The Calamari is better here than some places because it comes with the tentacles. The best part, of course. Next up is generally always the fish tacos. They're seared to perfection and garnished with cabbage shreds. They're topped with a magical and scrumptious green Wasabi sauce that'll make your toes curl from the excellence. This is my very first review, and unfortunately, it's not a good one. I've been a member of Yelp for years, but felt the need to write this review based on my experience. My wife, my children, and I went to Blue Fish Grill about two weeks ago after shopping at the nearby outlets. We had passed the restaurant a few times, and after reading most reviews, thought we'd give it a try. It has a nice casual feel to it, and the ambiance is nice. Unfortunately, that was the highlight for us. It was downhill after that. We sat outside, but quickly had to move because our table was incredibly unstable (not a slight wobble, but would be pushed from side to side with the slightest weight from our arms. After moving, my wife and I asked the waitress about specials, and she said that she recommended the Kalua Pork Nachos. She made it sound appealing, and we both placed an order. We were highly disappointed to see that we were given chips with pulled pork that looked like it had been thrown on there with a small ice cream scoop. Aside from the incredibly small amount of pork, it tasted horrible, unseasoned, with a sloppy, overcooked texture. I actually said, "Wow, Taco Bell would have been a better choice than this place." My wife responded with "I was just thinking the same thing." I ended up eating some, not all of my meal, while my wife pretty much ate the chips and everything outside of the pork. Essentially, we each paid $14 to eat chips with some toppings. Beyond the food, the service was horrible. The one time we saw our waitress after our food was received was when I had to go find our waitress to ask for something we needed, but other than that, she ignored us the whole time, constantly going to another table near us. (It's not that they were calling her over for help, but she kept going over to check on them, etc). I don't know if she felt that because their party was larger, she'd get a better tip, but needless to say, we weren't happy with the service. My kids ordered sliders, which were fine, but they came with these fries that tasted like they had sugar on them. I don't know if that's something unique and a "signature item" for the restaurant, but I found it odd that the fries were sweet. Now you might say "why'd you go to a seafood restaurant and order pork?" I kick myself for not sticking to the rule of sticking with the specialty of the restaurant and getting a fish item, but I based our order on the recommendation of the waitress, and she did make it seem flavorful. Either way, lesson learned. I wouldn't recommend this place (at least for what we ordered). Hopefully my future Yelp reviews will be positive, and this was just a fluke. read more

This place surprised me. We stumbled in after hanging out at Stangl farmers market. The waiter Karim was very friendly, casual but respectful attitude, and very knowledgable about the food. We had the cali burrito and korean shortrib burrito, both of which were awesome. The fries that came with my daughters kids meal were great ("you gonna eat those?"). Price was reasonable to boot. Ok, I just went to Blue Fish Grill today with my mom. I'd been looking forward to trying it because I'd heard so many good things...but my god the service is SO terrible. Honestly, I will never go back. We walked in, no one said anything to us, but it looked like we were supposed to order at the counter. I glanced at the menu, saw Baja Fish Tacos...a fav I haven't had since I left LA...anyway I was happy they were on the menu and looking forward to trying them. We went to the counter. My mom ordered grilled fish. The waitress asked what she wanted on the side. She ordered grilled veggies. The waitress asked what sauce she wanted. My mom said "I'll have the lemon butter, on the side." I ordered the baja fish tacos, POINTING at the sign for them above the register. She asked if I wanted chips or fries. I said chips. Fast foward 15 minutes. A different waitress walks out with fish for my mom...with a salad and pan-asian sauce, and fish and chips (fries) for me. We say, "oh you must have the wrong table, we ordered fish with lemon butter sauce and veggies and fish tacos with chips (chips)." She goes back in. My mom's fish comes out, obviously the same fish slid onto a new plate with NO sauce on the side. And still with a salad. We tell the girl we ordered veggies. The girl who rang us up comes out with the ticket and says, "no that is what you ordered." We say it is not. She tells us that we owe her $2.50 then, for the changed order. I look at her and say "absolutely not, we ordered and payed for grilled veggies." She says fine. For the next 15 minutes, random waitresses keep popping their heads out to tell me my tacos are coming. Finally, when they come, it is still a different meal then I ordered. Not beer-battered fish with chipotle, like the menu said, but grilled fish tacos with some other kind of chipotle-free sauce. Another waitress comes out and asks how our meal is. I say "well it tastes fine but it is still not what I ordered, I ordered the Baja tacos." She looks at me and says, "no, we have three kinds, you got the grilled ones." SERIOUSLY? I don't really like to order something specific at a restaurant, pay money for it, get served whatever the heck they feel like serving me TWICE, and then have a bunch of high school age waitresses treat me like I am a stupid person who had no memory of what I ordered off the menu. I mean, the food is not bad, so the restaurant has that going for it. But I wouldn't go here unless you didn't care whether your were served what you ordered and payed for upfront. The prices aren't THAT good. (if you read any of my other reviews, the only rival for this bad dining experience is "GOOD" in Silverlake, LA, CA) read more

This isn't a five star restaurant in the sense that you're getting the white glove treatment. Far from it. The food is served on paper plates, it seems like there are two ice buckets for the entire restaurant to share for their BYOB wine and beer, and napkins are replaced with a roll of paper towels. And not the softest paper towels, either. You could light a match off of these things. So why 5 stars? The food was delicious, the concept is brilliant, and the cost is right on target. The menu is simple. Choose a fish, choose a side, choose a sauce. You can probably create hundreds or thousands of permutations of meals here. The service was fast, the sauces were great, and the fish was excellent too. Bring your own bottle of wine, and this is a cheap date. $40 or less, most likely. If I lived in the area, I'd be here at least once a week. This is a concept that works, and it could be in every major and minor city and suburb. It's a shame it's not. read more

Seriously? Many of the menu items just went up as much as 60% in price. I still love the food, but for the new prices, you're entering finer dining territory. What used to be our favorite quick take-out spot is no longer a bargain. Fish and chips from $10 to $16.50. Skirt steak from $14 to $20! I understand prices need to go up sometimes, but this is a little ridiculous. ...and we tried to order anyway tonight because it's just what we were craving despite seeing the higher prices...put on hold for 7 minutes and nobody ever picked back up. Stopped here for date night with my hubby after hearing about it from some friends. The ambiance is pretty casual (we were a bit worried if we were under dressed but we were OK!). I had oysters, and my husband had a shrimp sandwich (forgot the name). Good service, and reasonably priced. Can't really say much for Oysters because they were just steamed.. Husband's sandwich was good, but wasn't anything we would rave about. I'd be willing to go back and try something else as it seems people love the other seafood options. I wish I lived closer ! Went on a first date with someone, the atmosphere was perfect. I got the Ahi Tuna with wasabi aioli sauce, it was seared perfectly and the Gouda mashed potatoes were delicious! My date had the teriyaki salmon and he loved it. For dessert, the grilled pound cake. Both of us loved it, I hope it becomes a constant because he may go back again just for that! The waiter was amazing, I don't remember her name but she had dark hair and a great attitude! This place is good! Nice atmosphere and good service, the food is creative and delicious. It does get crowded and does not do reservations. We started with the onion rings. They were well done and had a delicious dipping sauce. Next we had a Thai flavored salmon which was yummy and a mahi-mahi bowl with salsa beans rice and plantains. It was excellent. Also of good note: they have Boylans soda on tap. So much better than your average coke or Pepsi offerings. A great place for a date or dinner with friends. read more
