This place was hyped up by friends, but I thought it was mediocre at best. Was excited for the pancakes but was incredibly disappointed, as they tasted like they were from a box mix. Had a slice of lemon pie too, wasn't anything special. I can understand if this place is built into the history of Marble Falls, and is a favorite local spot, but it wasn't worth the wait in line as a tourist. Service was fine. How can anyone give Blue Bonnet Cafe less than 5 stars? This has been a breakfast go to for 20 plus years. Life is uncertain so I do pie first. This visit it was German chocolate pie with coffee. Delish! When we arrived we were in an out the door 20 foot line. Within 10 minutes we were sitting in a nice booth. Life is blessed. We Followed up dessert with two eggs, grits, ham, biscuits and gravy! My wife hand an egg scrambled with ham and hash browns. Lol..she couldn't eat it all. Good portions here. Nothing better than good old home cooking and comfort food! And this is the place for all of that. Husband gets a piece of pie to start, then biscuits and gravy, eggs and ham. I stick with the basic one egg, ham, hash browns and toast. Accompanied by a cup of coffee and all is good! BBC is a main stay staple here in Marble Falls and gets very busy. The line out the door moves pretty fast. Once seated food comes out quickly too. They are so organized and they know how to handle the breakfast/all day crowds. We always stop here for lunch after a visit to Sweet Berry Farm, and there is without fail always a line literally out the door (which moves pretty quickly, usually). We visited last weekend and were seated after a short wait. Our server was friendly and understanding of our party's dietary restrictions. She helpfully pointed out options for vegetarians (slim pickings there). The food overall is very average and mostly fried. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it was totally flavorless. Docking one star for the food. The pies however are absolutely delicious! I indulged in a slice of banana cream pie while my daughters enjoyed the chocolate cream pie, my dad opted for the sugar free apple pie, and my mom got the pecan pie. Of course we ate at the Blue Bonnet Cafe when we visited Marble Falls. An icon since 1929 and featured in so many TV shows, magazines and "must go" lists, we wanted to check it (and their famous pies) out for ourselves. Even picking a time we thought the crowd would be lighter, the line was out the door. If the same happens to you, don't let a little line deter you. Once inside the door you snake single file down a short hallway and around corner but they've got a system that works. So said the very nice hostess when I asked how she kept the line moving so quickly. Daily specials include enchiladas (and homemade salsa) on Fridays. I was almost a taker of said special but then I spied my favorite never-see-it-on-the-menu meal and I only had eyes for the liver and onions!! They serve complimentary bisquits and cornbread (yep, its a country kinda place) but surprisingly no sweet tea. Sides include mashed red potatoes, corn on the cob, pinto beans and buttered spinach. I thought I was at grandma's! Other than onions being diced and not sliced, I was happy with my meal. I was very very happy with the service. And the pie? Had to take it to go! Delicious coconut meringue. It didn't disappoint a few hours later. One thing I liked about Blue Bonnet Cafe was how everyone felt at home there. I saw a guy in a Metallica tshirt next to a table of seniors who were seated next to a family with little kids. I heard snippets of other languages and lots of laughter and saw ballcaps from rival colleges and universities and various political affiliations. We decided to stop by this location and give it a try in Marble Falls Texas. As we walked in the waitress greeted us and took us to our table. The rooms were large and several could be seated in this large restaurant. The food we ordered was great! Hamburger steak and onions with : side salad, tortilla soup and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. Home made rolls and home made corn bread were served as we were seated. Liver and onions Side salad, buttered carrots and chicken tortilla soup. The restaurant was really old and they have preserved the ambiance and it takes you back through decades. It had good 15 min wait-time. My order: Coconut Meringue pie Lemon cream pie Vegetable with cheese omelette Grits on the side I usually don't like pies but these were not close to the regular dry pies like the apple pies. These were creamy and the base was not thick. Loved the lemon cream pie, especially the after taste. Grits came out bland, obviously, and added some seasons. This spot is a famous classic for a reason :) It's a no-frills diner with homey service and old school prices you cannot beat. BF had the ground beef taco salad ($10.29) and loved it. Stopped in to get a few pieces of pie. It was recommended by the front desk at our resort. The hardest part is deciding which pie you want. The cost for two slices vs the whole pie leaned us toward the whole pie. It did not disappoint! The meringue was light and super high (we got the coconut meringue pie) and the filling was nice and had just the right amount of coconut. The crust, flakey and delicate. Restaurant was a step back in time and the staff were very nice and helpful. We will stop back for a full meal so we can appreciate the ambiance more. Given the legendary status of the Blue Bonnet cafe, I'm with mix emotions to write this review. As in Frank Sinatra's My Way, the end is near and they did it their way for 96 years, but this little historic cafe should shut its doors. The service is outstanding but the quality and any notion of inspiring dishes are long gone. The all day breakfast items are just bland including omelets and pancakes are just mediocre at best. No creativity keeping up with modern times. Not even freshly whipped butter for pancakes could be found. Also ordered the BLT and the club with both using very unflattering bread and lack the substance to match the price. The dichotomy here is that you cannot get away with the cheap diner entrees and charge today's prices. This review would not be complete without judging their most reputable pies. I ordered the fudge and peanut butter cream. The fudge just wasn't very balanced and seemed to use too much bittersweet chocolate and the peanut butter pie was over mixed with cream giving a dull flavor or peanut butter and too light of texture. Just too sweet. Both pie crusts were too thin, too light, and just not complementary to holding up the pie. Almost under baked. I'm sorry guys, but just recommend selling and placing a historical marker nearby. Again, the entire staff absolutely should be proud of themselves but these are modern times and the Snooze's of the world are just better. Sadly, I do not recommend. My rating is 1 fork. read more

Stopped by for dinner; this is probably my third time to eat here, and I don't think I'll be going back for a fourth. This go 'round, our waitress was a bit abrasive and impatient, but we've had good service in the past. The food came out quickly, though. I had the catfish, and it was very bland. The fried okra and mashed potatoes were tasty, though, and I was pleasantly surprised that the salad was not just iceberg lettuce but a spring mix. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. We all had pie, and I have to say that although I know it's what this little diner is known for, it's not that great. We were sitting where we could see the pie case, which is big, and the sliding glass doors had handprints and fingerprints and bits of smeared cream all over it, which was really unappetizing. If you are looking for a no frills, fluorescent lit old school diner feel, then you might stop in for the nostalgia, but there are better places to eat in MF. read more

Our server was very friendly and gave recommendations and even pointed out where the larger restrooms were and how to exit to escape the line in the front. Got the taco salad and I love it! Their food is amazing, staffs are friendly. Pies are def my favourites, lemon and pecan - although they are def on the sweeter side. Despite being busy, they are kind and provide recommendations if you aren't sure what to order. We got the western omelette with Texas toast, two hotackes with sausage patties, and chicken fried steak with a side of green beans, taco soup, and mashed potatoes. The western omelette was really good, especially if you pair it with the salsa which provides a tolerable but appreciable heat. I thought the taco soup was great as well as the mashed potatoes. Everything else was average but nothing wrong with that. Portions were about right, if not generous for the prices ($40 with tax for party of three, including pie) For dessert, we shared a slice of the coconut cream pie. This is a good place. It works hard to get people in quickly even when they're busy. I had to smoke chicken and the flavor certainly lives up to the reviews I've seen other places it tasted great. I was disappointed in the serving size and I walked away hungry for more. I know that chicken gave all it had, but perhaps it should have been allowed to grow bigger before they decided to turn it into food. The place is pretty comfortable. The service is great and it's worth another try. They missed a beat in that the french fries weren't really fresh from the fryer. The wife had the oatmeal and it came with lots of sides so it was pretty good. It was surprising you have to pay $0.57 to get raisins on your oatmeal but I guess in today's climate every penny counts. I had a yeast roll with my chicken and it was good but it wasn't spectacular. I thought a place like this would really wow me with their baked goods. The only real disappointment besides the size of the chicken was in the apple pie. It was not very tasty. I studied the menu intensely to pick out the best choice based on reviews so I got the Tuesday special chicken and dumplings. It was the worse meal I have ever had. The dry chicken was thrown on the plate with a few dumplings that did not even taste like dumplings. The red- skinned homemade mashed potatoes were instant with an instant brown gravy over it.
