We found this little hole in the wall back in 1999 and have been returning ever since. Today, we arrived in Austin from California with anticipation to making it to Opie's. Sadly, you will only see pictures of my left overs I was so excited I forgot to take good pics. This establishment is always clean and friendly. Matthew was super friendly and we enjoyed a fun conversation. We enjoyed brisket both lean and moist. The jalapeño creamed corn left my mouth burning! It is hot! Everyone was so friendly and answered my questions. There is pork in the butter beans so I avoided them. Order your meat and special sides with all you can eat Ranch beans, butterball beans, pickles, jalapeños, jalapeño sausage, and bread. Oh yeah! The sweet tea is awesome!

Opie's BBQ delivers the full Texas experience, incredible food, friendly service, and a laid-back, rustic vibe. The brisket is smoky, tender, and full of flavor, while the ribs are perfectly seasoned and fall-off-the-bone good. Don't skip the potato salad, creamy spicy corn and or the standout tater tot casserole, which is rich, cheesy, and unforgettable. Staff are welcoming and make you feel right at home. Whether you're a BBQ lover or just passing through, Opie's is worth the stop. Great food, great service, great music atmosphere, Texas Hill Country at its best.

This is a great, homey place to stop by on the way to or from Fredericksburg. When we arrived on Sunday mid afternoon there was a line but it moved quickly. They have the meats right out on display for you, which is so cool. You order the meat first, which is followed by picking up the sides and ordering drinks. The cash register is after that. They provide Texas toast, two soups, and a variety of sauces/pickings free of charge in the dining room. They have live music sometimes. I preferred their meats over Terry Blacks. The peach cobbler was good, but melted quickly and there was so much I had to save room for the main course. The potato salad was okay, nothing special. Wish I could have tried the mac n cheese. But what me, my mom, and dad all loved was the white bean soup that was piping hot and felt like a warm hug. The atmosphere is what you'd expect in a Texas BBQ location, and the bathrooms were surprisingly clean. You eat on the table without plates, but rather a food-grade film to separate the two. All trash is left on the table to be bussed by the servers. There are to-go wrappers and takeout brown bags near the exit. The parking lot is sizable.

If you're not familiar with this place, you'll need to know that as soon as you walk through the door, that is when you place your order. In other words, the pit is directly next to the entrance. Everything on the menu is à la carte, there are no two or three meat plates. The sides are sold separately, but the beans are free, although there is no brisket mixed in. The Coleslaw and potato salad is pretty average, but definitely recommend the tater tot casserole. When you check out with the credit card, the tip screen will be waiting and you'll get an emailed receipt. The brisket was smoked to perfection and moist as were the ribs. Even their mildly tangy barbecue sauce goes well with all the meat. They do have some good dessert options and we really enjoyed the blackberry cobbler. When you're done eating, just leave all the scraps on the table and they'll clean up after you. This is definitely a destination point if you consider yourself a barbecue aficionado. This place may not have much parking upfront, but they have a huge lot at the rear. Lots of seating inside and a few picnic tables out back. 10 photos for more insight.

Honestly some of the best barbecue ive had in this state! We had brisket both fatty and lean, and I've got to say it was incredible. Along with the main meats, the sides were also excellent. The spicy corn and green beans were above and beyond your standard sides. The vibe of the building was rustic and very awesome. Tons of room and lots of screens for watching sports. The staff was super nice and helpful as soon as you walk in. Highly recommend!

Just visiting with friends and seen Opie's place off highway 71 in Spicewood. We thought we stop at trie it always looking for good b.b.q while visiting new places. Glad we stopped it's really cool how they presented their sections of meats, in a super huge looking smoker,ok let me get to it the service was good, ambience is very causal, like music but not over bearing you can still have a conversation. The food was great, especially baby back's, so good, the brisket just right and the chicken tender . Definitely worth trying, you can go wrong that's for sure

I think this is my favorite bbq in Austin! Granted it is pretty far out if you're in the central Austin area but if you're ever in Spicewood, this place is a must try. The staff was so kind and friendly and oh my god the bbq was fantastic. I highlyyy recommend the brisket and jalapeño cheddar sausage. I also tried the spicy creamy corn and tater tot casserole, both were great. I also tried some of the blackberry cobbler which was super yummy. This place has plenty of seating and was super nice and clean. Excited to come back here at some point!

Unique BBQ in the Texas Hill Country! Good lunch place since they close at 4 pm. I had turkey (since I cannot eat beef). It was yummy! Self-serve as in a cafeteria style. My side was potato salad. Hubby got coleslaw. The only service we received was the woman slicing the meat. A little higher priced than expected, but a good lunch.

This is such a great spot to get some barbecue, especially if you're coming from Krause Springs, which is like 5 min away. We got here on a Saturday afternoon and it didn't take us long at all to find parking, get in, order, and find a seat. I love love love the "toppings" counter they have in the middle of the restaurant, where you can help yourself to barbecue sauce, two types of beans, pickles, spicy carrots, onions, and bread. They also had a live singer at the front, who created a really nice ambiance. The meat was really good, (the chicken was actually quite tender). But some parts of the brisket was not as juicy as I had hoped it would be. But the star for me anyways was the sides: the potato salad and slaw to be exact. And the tator tot casserole and cobblers were also super yummy. The green beans were a little too salty for my taste and I wish the corn had a bit of a sweet element along with the spiciness, but everything was still tasty anyways. And I really wanna come back to try the banana pudding. We weren't able to get any this time around, but it looked so good!

They were recently featured in TEXAS MONTHLY! https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/smokehouse-44-marble-falls/ Food- absolutely amazing! Brisket was cooked perfectly and flavor was the perfect mix of salt, pepper, fat render and you just taste the beef! (You know what I mean) Macaroni- my kids loved it! Wanted second and thirds! Beans- cooked perfectly with big hunks of pork belly in it! Coleslaw- I loved it! It was a perfect amount of tart and sweetness. Little bits of apple in it set it off. BBQ Sauce- Yall- help me help them bottle that stuff up! I will POUR that all over my bbq sandwiches. The meat didn't need it but it could be a star all on its own. Chicken- so flavorful and juicy Turkey- soooooo good! Tender and lean at the same time! Pork belly- mic drop, and pick it back up again for the sausage and pork ribs!! They all get five stars!! Special section for the Dessert- ok so I'm a calorie counter and usually just taste the desserts to quench my sweet tooth. But when I tasted the cobbler/bread pudding and the banana pudding I couldn't help myself. Even if you are full- GET THE DESSERT!! Service- I literally felt like I got Hugged from my aunt when the sweet lady taking orders said hello! Like she knew me and was welcoming me over for a home cooked meal! Seating- we went on a hot day but the shade and benches felt like I was back home at a BBQ with my family! Eating amazing food with a breeze and a perfect amount of warmth. I'll be making the trip out here an unhealthy amount for this BBQ!

But before we could try... they closed permanently. But, shortly after, we read Inman's was going to take it over and within months they transformed a run down shack into a really sharp looking restaurant. I never found out when they were going to open, but it wasn't hard to figure after driving by one day and seeing the parking lot full. And when a place has such a full lot after only being open for a few days... it's something you know you have to check out for yourself! It's small, but really just the right size. When you walk in, they have a large menu above the counter and it's pretty straightforward. We tried a chopped turkey sandwich and a chopped brisket sandwich with a half pound of pork ribs, mac 'n cheese and cole slaw. The indoor dining is very nice and comfortable. It didn't take very long for us to get our order; they have bread, pickles, beans and sauce you can help yourself to. The turkey was okay but it seemed a little dry or overcooked. The brisket is good, but the sandwich is just a little plain. Maybe the brisket is better when you order it sliced. The pork ribs were very interesting. The meat does come right off the rib and for a few of the pieces, it was mostly meat and no bone at all. On the other hand, some of the bones had very little meat on them. The meat was cooked to the point it's almost like jerky. Not in a bad way... the pork ribs are pretty good and just very different from anything I've ever had. Nice spices rubbed into the ribs. The BBQ sauce is pretty watery and not very special. It has some flavor but no punch or spice. The cole slaw is pretty average. I think it needs more vinegar and mayo. But the white cheddar mac 'n cheese is epic! This is not a store bought mac 'n cheese and if you come here, don't miss out! They have pies which we didn't try but I'm sure on our next visit. The BBQ here is good and the people who work here are very nice.

It's about 25 minutes over curvy roads thru the hills outside of Austin central metro area. I was glad that I went because I've been to Austin many times yet had not been northwest of the city. I tried many items. The sides were only $4 for the "small" portions (which weren't that small), so I tried all of them. The mac and cheese cork screw pasta was especially delicious. In fact, every side was delish and decadent. The jicama cole slaw was good and crunchy, the scalloped potatoes delish, the sriracha cole slaw had a good kick. I also liked the green chili corn and the pinto beans (very hearty). There was a side of pickle chips and onions. Now for the most important part, the brisket. It had a delicious bark on it, but it was just a bit dry. When I told my native Austinite friends this later, they all got very quiet ;). I believe that perhaps the truck makes the meat every other day, and I was there on the second day and so the meat got a bit dry (I'm being purely speculative about this and could be wrong). But it was still amazing! The special that day was "The Volcano Sandwich" (see photos) with brisket, potato salad, bacon jam, jalapenos, and pepper vinegar sauce on a hamburger bun. By the ingredients list, I thought it would be spicy, but it really was not. It was excellent. I also got the straight slices of brisket in its purest form. Again, delicious but a bit on the dry side. I also opted for some pork and got the Maui Waui Taco with pulled pork, pineapple pico de gallo, and chipotle sour cream. It was very tasty and I recommend it for the pork. It had a good kick and just sweet enough, but too much so. I was unsure whether Jim's Smokehouse had a second location along Barton Springs Road in Austin because it was listed on the web. I tried calling a few times to get more information, but got voicemail both times. I confirmed later that, as of this writing, the dt Austin location was closed down. Jim's Smokehouse is co-located with a few other food trucks. There are picnics tables, shaded in the back and a ping pong table. That day, I was served by Cecil? who was incredibly friendly and very welcoming. Such a nice guy. He brought all the food out to me along with the entire napkin holder. He appropriately waited for about 15 minutes to bring me the dessert which was the Keylime Pie with strawberry sauce (on the side). I tell you the pie was fantastic - get it! I think Jim's Smokehouse is 5/5 overall. I would go again in a heartbeat.

EVENT I was in town for a family reunion, in a party of 20 with a bunch of non-locals who were jacked for legit Texas BBQ. The place is loud -- if you're inside, don't expect to catch up with anyone but your immediate neighbors -- but spacious and inviting. We were prepped for an hour wait, but ended up going right in (Saturday at 3:00, before the rush that definitely did arrive). FOOD The bread was a little sweet, the coleslaw mostly savory, and both were fine. The beans and the potato salad were the lowest-rated in my group, but not awful. And the mac 'n' cheese was a big winner -- thick, smooth, delicious. But what of the main event? The sausage was divisive, but to me, thumbs-up. The pulled pork was solid. The brisket was dynamite -- not too spiced, not too lean, not too fatty, and altogether fall-apart fantastic. And my personal favorite, as well as that of several others at the table and recommended by a stuffed diner we passed in the parking lot, were the bison ribs. Sweet, smoky, tender as sin, and very much worth the trip. Goodness. Special mention for the house sauce (another clear highlight for my family) and the peach cobbler (soft top rather than crunchy raised some eyebrows, and it's very butter-forward -- but guilty-pleasure goooood). SERVICE And here's the reason for the review: the service was *exceptional.* Our server, Mason, went WAY above and beyond. He managed our battalion of screwball characters with aplomb, include two boomers ready to go to war over who got to take the check. He was readily available, but never hovering, and incredibly friendly. After chatting just a little about his own forays into smoking meat, it almost felt wrong to leave him behind at the end.
