The staff here were welcoming & friendly. The building is connected to a convenient store but don't let that discourage you from eating here. The restaurant was kept clean and comfy. We had bacon cheese burger and curly fries and a loaded baked potato & daily soup which was chicken & dumplings. I loved the chicken & dumplings. Rolled in with a group of 12 on a Friday at 11:30 and we were seated right away--major bonus points. Service was fast, friendly, and on top of things the whole time. The burgers? Out of this world--juicy, messy, and totally worth it. Shrimp basket and catfish were also winners. The only letdown was the chicken salad... two random kinds of cheese and a flavor that just didn't work for me. What could be such a fun place to eat, it just isn't. The food is over priced and not good. There were 4 of us in our party. Two had chicken fried steak. The chicken fried steak wasn't cooked all the way, making the breading soggy and tasting of flour. Two also had mashed potatoes. They were ice cold. Not room temp, but refrigerator temp. We told our server the mashed potatoes weren't warm enough to eat. She said she'd let someone know. One person in our party ordered the burger. Basic burger, a bit dry. We didn't get anything knocked off our bill, even though half our party couldn't eat most of the food. Never again. read more

Stayed at inks lake state park over the weekend and this place is 4 miles from the entrance. Went at the end of the trip with a hearty appetite and thought this spot was a 10/10. Chicken fried steak was well battered and the perfect portion. Mashed potatoes had just a bit of skin left and a bit of chunk here and there and were perfect. Fried okra had great balance of fried batter to okra. Cream gravy on everything was amazing and even the roll was good. A sweet lady even gave me some complimentary pinto beans to eat while I was waiting. Was so happy with the meal that we bought a pie to go and 2 of their pot roast specials to take back home to the rest of my family. Besides the food greatness the price was affordable and the staff was great. The operation runs well and I'm looking forward to bringing my wife to it. Stopped by while enjoying Park Road 4. Had the chicken fried steak lunch special with coleslaw and tea along with a bowl of chicken & sausage gumbo. The coleslaw was ok. The gumbo was hot and delicious! The chicken fried steak was fresh and hand battered, NOT something that came frozen in a box. I would have it again. The service was friendly. I must have had four employees say howdy, thank me for visiting, and ask how my food was. This is a nice cafe with good food and friendly people. The food was delicious! Sharing one menu for the whole table was weird. Sign said wait to be seated but then was told to sit where we want. Worst part was waiter forgot to refill our waters and he never came back around after he dropped the food off, so service could be better. I had the hickory burger and added bacon. Delicious. Bacon was thick, BBQ sauce was tasty. My wife had the chicken fried steak. It was good. My son loved the Philly cheesesteak, said it was so cheesy and delicious. We were sent this way by some locals who told us it was the best in town. We always listen to the locals. Well, we pulled up; parked; and walked to the door. Was hard to tell if it was open. But, we decided to go in. We stopped however...distracted by the dozens of cigarette butts right there before the door; trash; and a very filthy door itself. The food may be fabulous...but, first impressions being what they are, we turned away. If this is the filth we see, what filth is there in the kitchen that we don't see? Tip: clean that door; sweep that walkway. Take pride in the outward appearance of your restaurant. We didn't eat the food...so can't comment on that. read more

I asked if onion rings were battered in house and told yes !!!NOT ! They were straight out of a freezer bag ! And not even cooked. Just so disappointed ! I i have attached pictures. Haven't been in a while as they are a little of a drive. They are a little of an out of the way place (not hard to find, though), but I think worth the trip. A definite go to place for those nearby, and a great stop for those out for a drive in the Texas Hill Country. The food isn't exceptional. But the combination of consistently good small town diner cooking, atmosphere, and friendly staff (with reasonable prices) combine to make just a nice overall lunch experience. Do be sure and check their hours before making a trip. Today we are having their Pot Roast Special. Some items are better than others. Sweet Potato Fries were really good. My family and I really enjoyed our lunch at Hoover's Valley Cafe. The cheese burgers were great. We liked the yummy appetizer. It's a cute diner with nice atmosphere. The two servers were very nice. Our food came out very quickly. My husband was glad they served beer : ) The kids meals were over priced in my opinion for what you got. $8.49 for 1 chicken tender and fries. Forgot to snap a pic! Went here during spring break and I have to say amazing chicken fried steak and catfish fillets! The catfish fillets were fried to perfection. Light and crispy and not to greasy! Chicken fried steak again was fried very good great breading and yummy gravy! Just a bit salty for my preference! They also have wine a beer which is really nice for a dinner like this! Also has a fun lil library so you can read while you eat. Very kind friendly we brought our 8 month old and everyone was so nice. 10/10 Recommend and when ever we are back in the area will have to come again! read more

There aren't many options for food in the Kingsland Texas hill country and this restaurant is our go to for Tuesday burger night special on soft buns. Took my good friend to Hoover Valley Cafe for my belated birthday luncheon! She wanted to treat me snd I wanted to treat her by going here. Because we're both from the Hill Country and she's never been. We ordered the same thing we where famished. Chicken fried steak, mash potatoes, fried okra with gravy, toast and Desert the Hershey's chocolate cream pie on a chocolate gram cracker crust. We are in Texas to watch the eclipse. Came here with friends for lunch the next day after winetasting nearby. Our server was amazing, so delightful, pleasant and friendly. The weekday specials are really special! We love to go on Friday for meatloaf. Meatloaf just like mama made! This is a really popular local hang out.
