And just what was needed to warm me up. The latte was also very good. I chatted with the owner a bit. They have been open for about 5 years. 30 years ago when I was growing up jn the area, such a nice little Cafe would have been impossible to find. But Red Deer downtown has really become nice and this place is part of that improvement

The Bistro is a bit easy to miss - it has a modest storefront, and looks a bit dark from the outside. When you walk inside though, the business has a nice cozy feeling: wooden chairs and leather accented tables, as well as big comfy lounge chairs and 2-person booths, highlighted by local artwork on the walls. It's a counter-service affair, and you can order coffee and espresso drinks, milkshakes and floats, plus an assortment of soups, sandwiches, salads, sweets and ice cream. They also do a breakfast first thing I the morning for the early risers and office crowd. The staff is always super friendly, and quick to clean a table or help where they can. Basically everything is made-to-order, so you're going to get fresh food. An average lunch typically runs me about $10, a bit more if I opt for a latte instead of a pop, so the value is great too. This is definitely a place to check out if you'd like a change of pace from the fast food and pricey restaurants otherwise nearby. I understand they also do catering and they're pretty accommodating.

After empting our pockets of change it gave us 48 minutes. Neither of us were ready for anything big so we both had soup and a muffin with coffee. They had four kinds of soup so I ordered cheddar broccoli. It was good, not from a can but not exceptional either. Bassically it's what we were looking for. The café offered some unique muffins which were satisfying. Our coffees were fine, although mine could have been a bit warmer than it was. The service was very friendly so I think they were also the owners. The café is located in the common area of the building which presumably is for a variety of offices. There were people coming and going like you would see at a shopping mall so that might prove distracting for people studying or working but it was very quiet while we were here. Will I come back? Certainly if I'm near the downtown and looking for a light lunch. Otherwise Red Deer is a large city now so there are many other places to explore. Tip: the washrooms are up the escalators and you need a code for the doors so ask for it at the café.

Lacombe is becoming a more frequented place for me to meet country town & rural friends. Mostly as Red Deer is just too busy to accommodate last minute get togethers unless you are closer by & have the opportunity/time to drive around. That's how I first got to experience Ona & that was back when there was a furniture & a homewares store including the cafe within it. Things have changed since then (now only cafe & cafe space is significantly larger with raised patio in back) but still fabulous food & great coffee. Plus the bonus is the neat extras one can also purchase. Lots of lower height tables & it seems to be quite popular with larger groups & families (observation from my last visit a few weeks ago). Parking is on the streets around but I have yet to walk further than a block. Bathrooms are generous in size & I greatly appreciate how well kept they are considering how popular this place always seems. Decently lit with lots of natural light. A bit more on the louder side now that it is only a cafe but still a good spot to cool off & rest the arms from driving. I've tried treats & sandwiches here - both are of decent sizes & what the price of this are these days, I would say at a reasonable price. Coffee is always tasty here & I quite enjoyed the iced option this last stop being that the outside temp was over 25C. Staff are always friendly here & great at answering questions. As a cane user, I also greatly appreciate that things are bright out to the table so I don't have to navigate around searching for seating with food &/or drink plus a cane in the other hand. Thanks for always an enjoyable road break!

Place was 80% full when I got there and most people even just got thier food + drinks to go. Lovely place to kill some time or for a coffee date. Loved the assortment of unique goods at the back. Cashew cream cheese, chocolate milk, crackers, broth, candy, etc. What a wide range! But all very unique and would make such a great gift for food-lovers. I tried the sausage roll $7.50: 9/10: very greasy. They do warm it up for you. Sausage was a good texture and taste. Pasty was nice too but sausage falls right out of pastry when eating. I also tried the beet root latte. SOOO pretty! So beautifully pink. BUT tastes like warm milk with no other flavor. I would have liked a stronger beet taste. So if you want something for show and not taste this one is 10/10.
