Then, the server asked me how the food was. I asked if he wanted the real answer and he said yes- so, I explained that it was inedible and he said he was going to see about a discount. I paid and he never came back. I wouldn't not tip the kid, but the reality is that this is the worst place I've ever been to. Thank goodness I had pre-cooked a lasagna, because we didn't eat the food at this gross place. Love this place. Great service, delicious food, and generous portions. I particularly like the steak fajitas, and the burritos are absolutely gigantic and delicious. The brunch deals are good too - I'm a fan of the huevos rancheros and huevos choriqueso. Delivery is also consistent, and they don't skimp on the sizing. (Every time we do delivery we get the elote asado, which sadly I don't think they serve on their dine in menu.) We come to Blue Agave often and every time has been great! read more

When I visited this restaurant it was during a nearby street festival, so they were playing EXTREMELY loud music. It was unpleasant to be within a block of it, and deafening within the restaurant. The service wasn't great, waitress disappeared for long intervals, but didn't seem particularly busy. Conversation was impossible due to music. Their food was ok, although we didn't get enough corn chips with the guacamole we ordered and couldn't find our waitress to ask for more. They have fresh fruit margaritas here, which is great. One in my group can't have alcohol and asked if it was possible for the bartender to make a non-alcoholic margarita. The waitress replied that we could find the drinks listed in the menu. Someone also tried to give us samples of gin and sell their gin. Weird that the restaurant allowed people to wander around trying to market their products to people who are just trying to have a meal. Love the bartenders super warming and welcoming food is quick Margaritas are great and the owners of the place are always around so shows that that they care about there restaurant. I adore this place. Being from the Midwest, I find it's like a trendy version of your hometown restaurante mexicana autentica. Friendly service, esp. at the bar, always eager to please. Their beer-rita (coronita tipped upside down inside a frozen margarita) is absolutely delicious and almost impossibly unpretentious. I can walk in and order one and "there you go," no sorority girl pomp and circumstance. Chips are always fresh and salsa is utterly inoffensive but very tasty. Based on the other reviews I have read, perhaps I will attempt to go back there again and try something else. I ordered the tacos and they were kind of sad looking. There was very little steak and some lettuce thrown in there---nothing else. Very MEH and boring for what amounts to $4/taco. My partner ordered the chimichanga, which I thought was pretty good. It wasn't greasy and was put together pretty well. Drinks were just okay---I wasn't blown away---but they were all right. My first visit to Blue Agave was the end of June when I met a friend for an early dinner. We sat outside in the cozy backyard, sipped some sangria, and munched on some awesome guac & chips. It was a really great time. I was so impressed that I came back a week later for dinner with the hubs. We ordered drinks, dinner and dessert. I had the arroz con pollo and my husband had a faijta. Both were good sized portions and I had enough leftovers to bring to work the next day. My chicken was tender!! Do you know how many times I've had arroz con pollo and the chicken was dry? Too many. So when I bit into the (shredded) chicken to find it still juicy I was one happy girl. The rice was cooked properly but could use a bit more spice. I won't hold it against them. The atmosphere and service was great. I could sit here all day sip cocktails and just relax. I wasn't alone either. The outside seating was packed with people enjoying the warm weather. Maybe I'm getting overly sentimental, but it was so nice to feel like I was in a neighborhood joint. The drinks can be expensive but I was pleased with every cocktail I ordered so I can't really complain. Blue agave is one of my favorite restaurants in bay ridge! It's a small cozy place to get amazing food for a great price. I have had the nachos with guac, the calamari is to die for with a nice unique sauce. Every time I go I have the shrimp burrito in a bowl. I have tried off of others plates the rice and chicken and the steak in sauce, which are all very good! This place is a perfect spotty hang out at the bar or have a sit down dinner. Went for lunch on a weekday. I thought the prices were super reasonable and the restaurant had a nice ambiance. The waiter was super attentive and brought us water, chips and homemade salsa right away. I ordered a steak chimichanga and was perfect as well as the pernil platter which my friend ordered. The waiter brought us some really tasty homemade hot sauce to go on the side which I recommend asking for if it isn't already given.
