I have been wanting to try here since they opened and finally got the opportunity to do so this past weekend. I came to have a birthday celebration dinner with my friends. We made 6:30 dinner reservations. We got there right at 6:30 and we were seated right away. Our waitress Erica was awesome. She picked up on the fact that we were all friends and hadn't seen each other in a while and that we couldn't stop talking with each other about anything. Us needing to catch-up made us very slow to do anything including just ordering a drink but she as very patient and gave us the time we needed and watched for when we were ready. Really her timing was impeccable and I know she was watching for when we were ready but we never had to wait for her or really our food & drinks. We ordered our drinks and then talked forever again. Then finally had it together enough to figure out what we wanted to eat for an appetizer and our meals and ordered. We got the tortilla trio as the appetizer which was delicious. I loved the dipped we were provided with and the chips were good as well. When we finished the chips we still had more dip so we were offered more chips to finish the dip off but opted to skip it since we knew we would have our dinner soon. Not too long after we finished our chips we got our meals. I got the chicken Cesar sandwich with the fries. The fries were very good. They are a little thicker and remind me of steak cut fries. They could use a little seasoning but were still good and fired perfectly. My sandwich was awesome. I would come back to have it again. I loved the roll and the chicken was cooked perfectly. There was just the right amount of lettuce and the same with the dressing. It was pretty perfect. I got a bit of everything in every bite. I loved the décor of the place; I think this is a really great addition to the Park Ave. area. They do not have a full liquor license right now but plan to have one before Park Ave Fest which will help bring in more revenue for them. The only downside to the place was a squealing little boy not too far away from us that I really wanted to go away. I don't have kids for a reason. Also, I didn't feel like it was a family restaurant, I felt like it was more of a restaurant for friends and couples not quite families but all well, nothing I can do about it. Overall, I really enjoyed it here. We had great service and great food which made for a great time. I want to come back on a Wednesday for Bingo with my friends and I know my husband would want to try it here, there are also many other items I would love to eat. read more

Meh! Food was fine and service was good, but I was just wholly unimpressed, especially given the prices and the crowds. Service was rather prompt (after a bit of a wait, but that's to be expected on a Friday evening), except we waited at least 10 minutes for the waitress to pick up the bill. This was probably just a small oversight, but I wanted to leave!! Part of the reason I was a bit eager to get out of there was because the clientele is a bit insufferable. I generally know where to avoid to get out of the way of rowdy 'park ave' weekend night groups, but this is definitely a hub for them. We sat near the bar and I was continually bumped over and over again by groups of bros trying to get drinks or just generally being inconsiderate. I know I sound like a bit of a curmudgeon and this is not totally their fault, this happens to be a big part of their scene, at least on the weekends, and that's not really my style. I have now visited Blu Wolf for two lunches. My first visit I tried their basic burger. At $12 I was expecting something fantastic given that is expensive for this area. I was quite disappointed. The burger came overcooked and the meat was bland. Their "crooked fries" are also a bit overdone and nothing special. My second visit was for their fish fry. The fish was also overcooked and their beer batter coating was extra thick and extra hard making eating it difficult. I do not think it was worth $15 as a local fireman's hall fish fry is usually much better and better priced. During both encounters my party sat at the bar. Also during both our server needed to be flagged down to give us any attention. Reminding her that we were on lunch, we needed a check to pay, we needed her to take it somewhere to ring us out. Given the expense the service should be spot on and the food should be fantastic. I will not be revisiting the location. On a weird note, during our second trip there was a patron that our server seemed to be chatting up next to us at the bar. This patron felt inspired to mock us for taking a portion of the fish fry home for left overs. read more

I've been here many times and after last night I had to write a review. This is one of my favorite restaurant and I'm glad they are still open for take out because I don't feel comfortable dining in. The website ordering is very easy to use. You can not go wrong with a burger here. They have a lot of unique kinds and the actual burgers themselves are cooked perfectly and the arm bent fries they come with are so good. My boyfriend and have had the Royal with Cheese and the Lawful Waffle before and both are amazing. Last night my boyfriend had the Dirty Wing and I had the Chester. Both, as usual, were delicious and cooked perfectly. I upgraded my fries to the Irish nachos which I recommend everyone does. When we picked up the food the server was very friendly. I ordered beer but the one I ordered was sold out so she did a good job at making a suggestion for a replacement. If you haven't tried this place you are seriously missing out. I'm sad I didn't get pictures but we were too excited to dig in. read more

This is one of those places that is so caught up in trying to be trendy and new, they've forgotten to make their food actually taste good. I don't care if you put "fancy" words like duck fat or civiché in your menu item titles, it's not going to make bland, boring food taste good. I've been there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and wouldn't recommend any of it. $12 for a bowl of plain, unseasoned, scrambled eggs, undercooked home fries, and half an avocado. Never again. Also skip the orange juice which is so clearly from a dollar store gallon jug that it's visibly not even real juice. Actually skip the whole restaurant. The wait times at places like Jines and Frog Pond are annoying, but perhaps there's a reason there's never a line at Blu Wolf. Trying to reinvent the culinary wheel just doesn't work if you aren't even serving the basics like burgers and eggs deliciously. read more

We really wanted to like Blu Wolf for brunch, but it was terrible. We were here before for dinner and had the specialty burgers and they were very good. Unfortunately, brunch is a different story. I'll start with the positives: no wait, nice waitress, great looking menu. But the positives stop there. The negatives are too numerous and are all about the quality of the food. The waffles seemed like they were made from frozen. The blueberries were even tasteless - as if they'd been frozen, thawed and frozen again before serving them to us. No real maple syrup and the syrup they had was terrible. The corned beef hash is big chunks of corned beef, not the hash one expects. As least you can add salt to the home fries. We may go back someday for dinner, but never again for brunch. read more

Late lunch. Don't be fooled by the three slider burgers on the menu! The portions are huge ! All three perfectly bun, veggies, meat, cheese and ketchup stacked burgers can fill more than one person. Salads were decent, a little pricey for just lettuce and spinach though. Recommend passing on the garlic parm wings, most of the sauce just ends up on the bottom of the plate and you end up scooping the sauce and feelings guilty about all that fatty sauce. The atmosphere is very nice. It took 15 minutes for us to receive our drinks. The food took 45 minutes to come out. When we finally got our pancakes, they were burnt. It took an additional 10 minutes to get butter for the pancakes. My bacon was also burnt to a crisp. Then when I finally go there the host sassed me and was very rude before not seating my party for 30 minutes after he had quoted us a 10 minute wait. The first time we went here, we really liked it. Nice staff & great drink sections. The second time, it was incredibly loud, which normally I don't mind but it was really bad this particular night. My other frustration is the fact that I have food allergies. They have virtually nothing I could eat. I'm mostly looking for gluten free b/c I can alter anything from that point on quite easily. If they could just get a gf roll or a salad selection with a protein option for it, it would be great. When I asked for a dairy & gf dressing, even just oil & vinegar, our server looked perplexed. I even offered that she just get me a lemon wedge. Again, met with an odd look. Everywhere else we go, and that's a lot of restaurants btw, they are extremely prepared & caring. Here, not so much. The first time we went, our server didn't understand gf at all. So education of the staff might be good. I do think they have the potential to be a great place. They just need to understand food allergies better (I'm not thrilled about them, either. Trust me! Royal pain.). The decor is slick. The host staff are great. I was very disappointed with my experience and food at Blu Wolf Bistro. In the beginning, it took 20 minutes to get our sodas. I ordered a medium Park Ave burger (blue cheese, applewood smoked bacon, caramelized onions) with no onions and added the bacon cheddar bun. After over an hour wait for our food, my burger had onions on it, and it was over cooked to the point that it was completely dry. There were a couple pieces of tasty, yet chewy bacon on it, but only a few crumbles of blue cheese; so I hardly ever tasted it. I was excited for the unique bun too, but I couldn't even taste much difference than a regular bun. The fries had a curly fry like seasoning on them, so they had a good flavor. Just had a terrific meal here with my usual dining companion. Everything was so delicious. We started with their Blue Harvest salad. It was plenty for two, 20 varieties of lettuce, lots of apple bits and walnuts and loads of blue cheese. Raspberry vinaigrette dressing was light and perfectly sweet. Main course was their ribeye, medium rare, on the bone. 16 ounces was plenty for 2 and the wine sauce was delicious. Amazingly the steak was as delicious as any we have had at a dedicated steak house. The sides of candied carrots and roasted red potatoes were pleasant as well. My companion selected a very nice red from their extensive list of wines by the glass. Hob Nob was the name and it was another nice touch. Finally we had Cannoli Chips from their tiny dessert menu. It wasn't really prepared as much as assembled, which is usually a pet peeve when it comes to restaurants. That said, it was cute and fun. Basically a deconstructed cannoli with the marscapone/ricotta mix topped with strawberry sauce in a bowl, with cannoli crust chips for dipping. It was tasty and humorous. Service was attentive and friendly. The ambience was hip and a little loud, as befits the gastropub genre. We got out of there for a very reasonable price. We are planning to return to sample other menu items in the future. read more

Wow! Where to begin. I was a guest @ the Blu Wolf Bistro's soft opening Monday night, and was overwhelmed by the incredible food that was served. I started the evening with a glass of Beaujilais Nouveau Wine (French). A perfect choice. And the following appetizers were brought to our table: Buffalo Calamari : served in strips w blue cheese dip/ just the right "kick" and delicious. A great start to this culinary evening. Wolf Bites: deep fried mini burgers. Who thinks up this stuff : ) I guess you can deep fry anything.LOL . I think this is their signature appetizer, and these "bites" are guaranteed to be the talk of the town. Chicken Wings: They come in a variety of flavors, but we had the Hot ones. They did not disappoint. The Buffalo sauce was better than Jeramiah's and that is saying a lot. Now for the Entrees: I had the Cardiac Burger (cooked rare and to perfection) which was dressed with heaps of fried jalapenos and bacon. One of the best burgers I've had in the Rochester area. The fries were seasoned twisted potato wedges and complimented the burger well. My friend had a burger (called the Mac&Cheese) that looked awesome also. It had its namesake and a fried egg on it. I think that will be my choice on my next visit. Our waitress Ashley, who was incredible, brought over a plate of Apple Frittas for dessert. I am not a real "dessert" person, but I did enjoy this alternative version to the apple pie. I've been to Blu Wolf twice now. I live out of town but came in during the summer for dinner. We had a table of 8, but that did not slow down our service for start to end. Sat quickly, server arrived quickly, food came -hot and absolutely delicious. One of the people in our group is a chef, and he loved the food, and we go out with him frequently and he is PICKY!! Lol, but he thought it was great. Absolutely relaxing and enjoyable experience. Then came for breakfast about a month ago, sat outside, and again, everything was relaxing and the food was sooooo good. Our server was Tessa and she is adorable, friendly, and efficient. The Blu Wolf Bistro boasts great decor and friendly service, but some details about the food leave much to be desired. The girlfriend and I were excited to try out the Blu Wolf Bistro, initially attracted by its list of craft beers. We visited early on a Saturday evening, to avoid the late-night bar crowds. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a host who told us there would be a 40-minute wait for tables. I raised an eyebrow because I could look around the room and clearly see several open tables (of course, I had no idea about reservation status, so I gave them benefit of the doubt). Another couple ahead of us said, "Don't worry, they say 40 but we were only waiting 20." We shrugged, and since we were interested in beers anyway, we put our names in and headed for the bar. A friendly bartender served up some tasty brews, and before I could event take my second sip, I was being paged by the host. Total wait time: 10 minutes. Was this a tactic to create a sense of "demand" or did several tables suddenly open up? Never mind, I'll play along. We both liked the decor, it's one of the things reviewers comment on most. It's an attractive blue and black scheme, and I do like the high-back booths. We were seated at a table in the middle of the room, which means you're going to end up being close to your neighbor, but it wasn't too distracting for us. The three large TV's in the bar area definitely seemed out of place for a location advertising itself as a "bistro," however. Our server was prompt and friendly and explained some of the menu items to us. We both decided to try the DBLT ("duck bacon, lettuce, tomato"). Our wait for food was not very long, and everything was plated attractively. I took one bite of my sandwich and felt something was amiss. I opened it up and dug past the lettuce and tomato to find one small piece of duck bacon. The other side of my sandwich seemed to have more but I was a bit non-plussed. The waitress came by and saw my distress and offered to make it right. A new sandwich appeared within minutes and had a much better distribution of the precious duck bacon. The waitress reminded me that the DBLT only comes with three strips of meat, which I understood (I wasn't expecting a meat sandwich). Though the sandwich comes advertised as being built on "thick texas toast," in reality it came on some dry white toast that was barely singed under a broiler. "Texas toast" is usually a thick cut white bread brushed with butter and garlic and grilled or toasted. What's more, the sandwich was dry. A thin spread of mayo would have helped. Our waitress suggested and quickly brought out a little side of dill mayo that my girlfriend said helped the sandwich tremendously. Also, the flavor of duck bacon was not as strong as I had imagined it would be... In fact, no real strong flavors at all. That said, the side of mac and cheese my girlfriend ordered was rich and creamy, and the house salad I ordered ($2.00 extra) was very good and came with a nice balsamic vinaigrette. We did see plates of delicious looking burgers being served to other patrons and agreed that we should try one of those next time. In fact, burgers seem to be what reviewers comment on most, perhaps Blu Wolf should focus their efforts there? They do feature a nice list of beers (many local), and perhaps another date night is in order to try some of the appetizers. The service was 5 stars (attentive and prompt), the food (we both ordered soup and sandwich lunch special) 3 stars, very average, the atmosphere 2 stars (music loud with no acoustic material in walls or ceiling. It took an hour and half to eat here for 4 adults and a child at 4:15pm on a Sunday. We watched a number of couples come in after we arrived and leave before we got our food. It was not anything close to resembling busy. Food wasn't cold (except my onion rings, I guess) but it wasn't exactly hot either. After driving 45 minutes and making a reservation for 10 people more then 8 hours prior for my best friend's 21st birthday, we were told that it was "trivia night" and we would have to "wait until people got up and left" in order to be seated. After waiting for 20 minutes, I kindly asked the host how long we would have to wait and he said anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. After being told that, we walked out and went across the street to Jines. Not sure if it's a Western NY thing because this type of inefficiency is NOT something you would find at any restaurant downstate but absolutely unbelievable. Don't accept a reservation for 11 people if you are not able to comply with it. Will never be entering this establishment again. Unreal. read more

Kinda a hit or miss at blu wolf! I love there setup! I find there menu creative, however I'm not always enjoying there execution. The burgers are good for the most part. I've had some good some not. They had a good Cuban, Rueben was "so so" quinoa was flavorless, crab cakes weren't that good, calamari was pretty awful. burgers and sandwiches are there strong suit read more
