I had high hopes because the menu read well and seemed it would be very vegetarian-centric, like, farm to table, attention to fresh vegetables, flavor.... No. Portions were also small for the price. I ordered ratatouille that was bland and lacked texture or freshness-- like the progresso version of ratatouille. Calamari salad was celery, shredded romaine and breadcrumbs with barely any calamari and what was there was chewy and again flavorless. Even the dressing was lacking. Chicken lollipops were the best of the 3 things ordered, but $15 for 5 roughly tater tot sized chunks of chicken. For drinks and "instagramable photo ops" this place will hit the mark, but for food you'd probably do better elsewhere. read more

Celebrated my daughter's 30th birthday here on Saturday. That place is really pretty. The music was not too loud so we could hold a conversation. A few of us got there early to decorate and everything was already all set up just like I discussed with Jason and Tom the manager. Staff was understanding when I asked if we could move the table a little to fit the balloon arch. Our waitress Nicolette was the best. She was so nice and on top of everything. Thank you so much Nicolette, if you see this. Tom came in and sang happy birthday to my daughter which she loved. My guests all seemed to have a nice time. The service was wonderful and the food was even better - I asked my waitress for a drink recommendation (because I like sweet drinks that don't taste like alcohol) and she absolutely delivered. The veggie burgers are made in-house and so juicy and the fries are ‍ if you're a potato girlie like me they're 9/10 's, just so thick and crispy, maximum potato. I never really leave reviews but I had to leave one from my visit yesterday, 3/29! I ordered the Bloom Burger and fries with a Blueberry Basil Lemonade. Not only was the food beautiful when it came out, but it was absolutely DELICIOUS! The presentation of everything we ordered was so thought through, down to the green straw that made you think of a flower stem. There had been a small hiccup in my order and the staff was so sweet and proactive in finding a remedy. A big shout out to our waitstaff, especially Patricia -- so kind and bubbly and her presence alone made us want to come back. The owner also stopped by to make sure everything was going well, and his flower hat and eccentric personality were a great way to top off the evening. The appetizers and drinks were very good! The veggie burger was ok, it was red almost like a raw burger so it was a tiny bit off putting and the flavor and texture were different. The fries were really good! My husband had the spicy pasta and it was ok too. The Mac and cheese was really good though! The brussel sprouts were phenomenal. This is a nice quiet bistro in the heart of Kew Gardens. The ambience of Manhattan without the drive or the traffic. The place is well decorated and feels like a garden. The food was fresh and tasty. I visited Bloom Botanical bistro with 3 friends and I must say I left with great disappointment. To start we entered the restaurant and asks for a table for four. The host did not walk us to our table but simply stated " just pick a table". As we were walking up to a table a server had begun cleaning it off. He removed the plates and cocktail glasses. We sat down expecting him to come back to finish cleaning the table but he never did. We sat for about 10 minutes. No server ever came up to offer water, nor ask about food, drinks or any thing. Several staff members walked past our table multiple times but no one ever stopped. We even saw some staff on the floor dancing with patrons. We decided to leave due to the clear bias and lack of desire to serve us. It is safe to say I will not be back. read more

Everything was so well done: Waygu meatballs atop little beds of slaw, tuna tartare that came with so many fixings it felt like a descontructed poke bowl, Kung Pao calamari that actually didn't make me miss regular fried calamari. The Lobster Pappardelle had big juicy pieces of lobster resting on creamy ribbons of pasta. And aside from not having an actual filet mignon, the beet Wellington had the perfect puff pastry and flavors of beef Wellington. I celebrated my birthday over the weekend at bloom for a girls brunch and it was perfect. Every detail was met and surpassed. There are so many beautiful spots at the restaurants for lovely pictures. Even the bathroom is photo worthy. But let's talk about the food. The portions are so filling and everything was delicious. The mocktails are also amazing and so refreshing. Came here for a light dinner with my family (including 4 year old daughter). The concept is nice, having some flowers and plants definitely differentiates from typical dinner bars: a bit brighter than the dark dinner bars, also the open atmosphere gives you a bit more breathing room over a stuff experience, was nice and fresh even while we were seated in the back. Food was pretty good, but a little bit of everything. As diverse as the menu could be, I didn't sense a signature dish or something integrated with the blossom theme. Would have been better integrated if some menu items representing flowers to go with the name. I'd come here for a fun and light dinner with friends as it is a better choice than most restaurants in the area, but branding can be a bit better in the food. read more

Six months had passed since my last visit to Bloom so I was curious as to what I would experience this time at this restaurant that on two previous visits, didn't have an identity and was just plain weird. Would the experience be like the second visit when the "faux live musicians" were seated with their instruments in front of the "faux flower wall" selecting the songs from their prerecorded playlist on their smartphones that they would play through the speakers adjacent to them on the floor ? Or would it be like the first visit when the customers, mostly in their 70's and 80's suddenly got inspired to tango with the waitstaff in front of the "faux flower" wall in a scene that seemed straight out of Ron Howard's movie, Cocoon? Well, visit three was unlike either of those. We went prime time on a Saturday evening. The front desk hostess (think Melanie Griffith in Working Girl) greats us and seats us along the inner wall with most of the other diners. Bloom seems to have a few seating areas. Locals and repeat customers seem to be seated along the wall from the hostess stand to the faux flower wall at back. Groups are seated at the two large round tables in the center of the room, one at the front and one near the faux flower wall. Dating Couples (those under 30 with women in gowns) get seated at one of the tables in the very center of the room with spot lights on them near the faux flower wall. If your idea of a dinner date is having dinner at the center of a football field on the 50 yard line while a game is played around you, then this is your date place by far! The looks on the dating couples are memorable. He's impressed with his choice of restaurant while she has a "what the hell is this supposed to be" look on her face while trying to look happy. Meanwhile, back at the far end of the restaurant adjacent to the kitchen are tables catering to large parties and groups. In the front, across from the hostess stand, is a large bar. Bloom reminds me, for some reason of a place in Garden City that begins with an "R" but there the patrons are mostly young heterosexual couples; her in a formal gown with designer bag, him in a t shirt, shorts and basketball shoes straight off the basketball court. Bloom has a much more diverse clientele, which makes sense since it has no specific identity and attracts a diverse crowd. SERVICE: The staff have the service down fine. They're friendly, and attentive. Water glasses get refilled. They NEVER check in about how the food is, however, but this is the type of place where if something is wrong you just get up and walk over to your server and say something to them so I honestly don't mind that they never check in. They didn't need to anyway. On to the food. Despite the fact that this restaurant has Vegan and non-Vegan items on the menu, the Vegan items are FAR superior to the non-Vegan ones. This chef is an artist with vegetables! The dishes are as amazing to taste as they are to look at. On our last visit we had the Calamari, Radish and Tomato Bruschetta, Beet Wellington and a special Shrimp Pasta dish that was featured that evening. All four were unique, REALLY unique and delicious. Dessert was the no-bake blueberry cheesecake, also fantastic. Coffee is also top notch. They even offered a second cup. Wine pours were much more generous than on the previous two visits but prices are reasonable. No "faux live musicians" this time. Only background music at levels that allow easy conversation. In fact, Bloom is an amazing mix of clientele and staff and decor and a super talented vegetable loving chef that all somehow work together in a big salad bowl of a restaurant that has no particular identity other than being "Bloom". Everyone is happy and content, until 10pm. That's when the wait staff become tense and anxious and line up in front of the kitchen as the owner/manager or whoever, who is also at Nick's Bistro down the block, arrives with his hyperactive entourage to count the receipts from the day and has the idea that to start blasting music at eardrum shattering levels and lip syncing karaoke is what the clientele want. He couldn't be more wrong. A suggestion. Let Bloom be Bloom and access those daily receipts remotely from a computer terminal at Nick's please. I know it is very expensive now to maintain that outdoor dining shed at Nick's that tripled the dining capacity there. But your staff at Bloom are well trained. They know what they are doing and they keep the customers happy and returning time after time. Let them be. read more

My friends and I ordered Airline Chicken, Pan Seared Verlasso Salmon, and Filet Mignon Aupoiure. They were all super tasty and warm. I think our favorite was the Airline Chicken. The chicken was flavorful and the meat was as tender as it can be! Big Kudos to the chef!! I highly recommend this place for any date night or a night out with the girls.
