Austin's Ale House has been around for a while and as a native of Queens--can't believe it took me moving out of the borough to finally step foot in this establishment after seeing a movie at the Kew Gardens Cinema across the street. Think of it as a neighborhood haunt with a sports bar that dominates half of the restaurant. Alas, my family was looking for a warm place to enjoy a comfort food kind of meal. So we all got the early bird special with came with an app, an entree and a dessert all for 32$ which wasn't bad at all. 3.5 It had been awhile since I last visited Austin's, so we decided to give it a try again. Walking in there is a newness to the bar and adjacent dining areas as they renovated somewhat recently. We were able to be seated right away on a Saturday night for dinner and sat in the bar dining room. Beer is served cold and their cocktails are nicely made. We went for the shell steaks with a salad added on. The salad arrived first and was a fairly large portion. Fresh and tasty. The steaks arrived looking good. My steak was actually perfectly cooked, it was just on the bland side. I don't know why they don't season their steaks much, if at all. Fries were not really hot and the shoe string fries, were different than the fries they used to have. Well cooked veggies were also served along with the steak. It would have been 4 stars if things were season properly. Service is still on the slow side, so a quick meal typically isn't possible. I made a reservation on Open Table. We arrived and sat down. The waitress came right over to pour our waters and take a drink order. I ordered a cucumber martini on the rocks. The single ice block made the drink look amazing. The cocktail was freshly made and not too strong. We then ordered traditional wings with the sauce on side. I have to be honest, the sauce on the side was not as good as the sauce on the wings. We then ordered a hamburger and the voo doo pasta with Cajun chicken. It was amazing. The food was hot and fresh. There was so much food left over. The only downfall was we didn't get any bread which we love the rolls they serve. The price is right and the staff is professional and took very good care of us. Walked in on a Friday night around 9pm while a basketball & baseball game was on, bar was packed! Dining area was pretty full but they had a few empty tables all the way in back. We decided to sit outside. Waitress came over right away with our drinks, we ordered hot wings and calamari for appetizers, wings came out quickly. I've never seen such sad wings in my life, super tiny and overcooked, they should be embarrassed to serve this. Waitress disappeared, had to go inside to flag someone down. Finally someone came over and said they looked like that because they were running out of wings, they offer a special on wings inside but not outside, they have the nerve to charge $15.95 for those wings! Calamari took over 1/2 hr to come out, underwhelming & spicy. Margarita glass had a huge crack in it. Waitress never came back to take our entree order, not that we wanted to order anything else at that point. Went to Dani's and brought pizza in after seeing a few people around us doing the same. Everyone is very friendly, and you're greeted as soon as you walk in the establishment seated right away. The only reason I went to this place is because some friends of mine took me for food and this was their choice. I don't like spending other people's money so I tried to find something as cheap as possible which in this place is VERY difficult. I ended up getting a cheeseburger with a trio of fries, sweet potato fries and onion rings. It was $18!! I can make SO MANY burgers for $18. Absolutely ridiculous!! I did feel bad getting but everything else was WAY more pricy. It tastes like a regular burger. Nothing really special about it. The one good thing is that the portion size was huge. I took home most of the meal cause I couldn't finish it. Definitely would NOT go back on my own cause I would never pay what they're asking for anything they serve. this place has such a good vibe. The staff is super nice and accommodating. I haven't been here in years. I decided to give it a shot. My guy and I ordered soup and we each had an entrée. He went with a Thursday night rib special. I got the ribeye steak. The chef was nice enough to give me this gravy that comes with another steak and it was delicious. My steak was cooked perfectly. The French onion soup was really good. (I would've liked it better if there was Gruyere cheese but nobody really ever does that) I opted for a loaded baked potato on the side. It was really yummy. I enjoy coming to this restaurant when I am in the area. The food is good, the restaurant dining area is quiet, and the waitstaff provides good service. There is the bar area and an additional room with tables and the bar area can get loud. There are several large screen televisionsm. The dining room area is separated from the bar area and is much quieter and there are also large screen televisions there. I have had many of the dinners here. The salmon is well prepared and there are three sauces to choose from, all three are good. The steaks are also well seasoned and prepared. Tonight I enjoyed the Ahi Tuna appetizer and the Shepherd's Pie which came in a cast iron serving dish. Enjoy the restaurant when you are looking for a good meal or a night out. read more

My husband and I have been meaning to go here for a while. We finally decided to go one night and we loved it!! The bar atmosphere is really fun and they have a quiet dining area as well as an area right by the bar that is a bit louder. We are by the bar, but we didn't feel it was overly loud. I assume it can get loud. We were impressed with the quick service to seat us. We at first sat at a table that one of the diners at the table next to us was cussing up a storm and being super dramatic. We didn't want to hear her dramatic story so we asked to move. They moved us immediately and we're so apologetic even though it wasn't their fault. We each ordered beer. I had the Keg and Lantern Beyond the Haze IPA. It was delicious and may be my new favorite Hazy IPA. Darren got his favorite Alagash. For an appetizer, we got Truffled Bacon and Jalapeno Mac and Cheese Bites because we checked into Yelp and received 1/2 off an appetizer. We really enjoyed them! For my entree, I ordered French onion soup. It wasn't horrible, but not great. I wouldn't get it again. Darren really liked his steak sandwich. We had a great time and will for sure be back. It takes forever for anyone to check on you and even longer to close out your tab. The food is mostly mediocre and the prices have increased. So why the junk from 2 to 3 stars? Tonight I was craving shepherds pie. And this is one dish that was well executed in both flavor and packaging! I've been here two times for brunch in the last couple of weeks. Once as a party of two and another time with a party of over 20. Both times we were seated outdoors. The outdoor seating is right by the train tracks so it might be a bit loud when the train passes by but it's not that frequent on the weekend anyways. The outdoor space has 3 areas, a garden area that has trees and astro turf, an area covered by a large tent and a smaller open space close to a water feature. I would say at their busiest about 60% of the tables are filled. While you can order brunch, you can also order a la carte. However I definitely recommend ordering off the brunch menu if your intention was to have breakfast foods. Yes, the brunch menu only has breakfast items and is limited to omelettes, huevos rancheros, breakfast burrito, frittata, steak and eggs and french toast (I might have missed an item or two). I'm recommending this because brunch comes with a drink (mimosa, screw driver, bloody mary), tea or coffee, a bagel or a muffin, a fruit cup and your meal for $24 to $26. It's quite a value. The two times I have been here, the staff has been great, very accommodating and attentive. And note the patio area usually only has about 3 people on staff, so it's not a lot of people which to me makes the level of service seem even more impressive. Now onto the food. I have only had the steak and eggs and tasted the frittata and breakfast burrito. Everything seasoned well and the portions are generous. The steak is typically over the temp I asked for but not so egregious as being well done. Have to give props to Colleen and her staff for accommodating our large party. Though there were issues with the food timing, I leave that to the understaffed part. But all-in all will be going back to Austin's Ale House for brunch and likely other meals in the future. read more

Been here a couple times for lunch during the week. Up and down in terms of the crowds, though the place is spacious enough to handle big groups. Fairly large menu for a bar with lunch specials to boot. Tried the Ahi Tuna Wrap ($15) - a burrito sized "half wrap" served alongside house salad. The tortilla is toasted and there is guacamole and pico de gallo inside to balance out all the tuna meat. Tuna itself is chewy, so it needed more sauce to counter. Also tried the Buffalo Chicken Wings ($11) - six to an order, slathered in buffalo sauce. Medium sized wings, good flavor on the sauce. Service depends on the crowd, as there's usually only one person (outside the kitchen) working the place. Fine spot for a sit-down lunch in the area. read more

Hostile and Prejudiced bartender/service - Never Returning I came to Austin Ale House with friends to watch the UFC fights and left completely disgusted. I ordered multiple drinks while standing, then sat at the bar and ordered two more. Despite being a paying customer, a bartender loudly and rudely implied I was freeloading, then told me I had to stand unless I kept drinking. Meanwhile, another customer sat next to me for an extended period without a drink and wasn't bothered. When I pointed this out, her response was, "I know him, it's fine." The blatant double standard and hostile treatment felt personal, and frankly, prejudiced. My friends and I will never return to this unwelcoming, unprofessional establishment. Avoid if you value respect. Go to cobblestone instead. At the very least they are much more hospitable and they are relatively close to this location. read more

I will say with confidence that the food here is very good! The short ribs especially were incredibly tender and well seasoned. Mac and cheese was pretty good too. The homemade guacamole was wonderful. We also enjoyed the pasta, pizza and fries. The service however was problematic. We came for a small dinner with family. Despite having reservations they had to create a table for us last minute. It was evident that they forgot. After waiting to be set up, we receded and an area where it was very difficult to access everyone at the table. This meant food had to be passed down and around. It was a bit awkward. Service was slow taking orders and bringing food. We had to look around too much and say "where is a server?" The temperature fluctuated way too much. People at the table were freezing. Haven't been here for nearly three years. Was looking for a nearby place for a bite after the very enjoyable Film Shorts Tribeca Film Festival event at Flushing Meadows Park. Had a Groupon. They've extended their outdoor space and it's lively. There was a private party at one end, a tent covered area in the middle and a smoking area towards the Lefferts Blvd entrance with a mini waterfall. The service was 5* from the hostess, greeting us, to the waitress and the young man bussing our table. Their (COVID?) dinner menu was smaller than I'd remembered it, but it's typical during the pandemic. The prices are moderate. My Aperol ($11) was 4* and my dining companion said the house Sauvignon Blanc $7.75) was 3*. The side Caesar was big enough for two $11) with balsamic vinegar replacing the Caesar dressing (our choice) and 4* Their "secret menu bar quesadilla was 5* our favorite quesadilla ever $14) with Cajun chicken, cheese and sautéed onions and peppers. read more

If the outdoor space wasn't awesome this review would be for even less. We went on a Monday night in August and the place was dead. I had called ahead of time to see if the Yankee game was on outside. They told me it was. I got there and there was no one outside, the TVs were off and it looked closed. I went in and got someone who told me they would open up outside. It took them a good 15 min to get the TVs on but they did get them going. As I said the outdoor space is very cool. Lots of TVs and it is covered. The food was not good with the exception of the poutine. We started with apps. The poutine was good but not great. The wings shockingly were not good.
