We chose this for a low-key one-day-early Mother's Day celebration, and it was a smashing success. Parking was not difficult, one short block away. We ordered two specialty French fry baskets as appetizers, Duck Duck Goose (so unusual and tasty!) and the Funky Fungi, also delicious. Many at our table of six had burgers and they were all beautifully made, and one person tried the special butter chicken burrito I think? Also tasty and fun. I had a salad with seared salmon on top, and it was so fresh and HUGE. I would say it would have fed three and really it did, as I had part of it on site and split the rest the next morning with my sweetheart--all we added was an egg for each of us. I've really been looking forward to visiting Block 16 and was excited to try their burger. It wasn't bad by any means but it just isn't my cup of tea. It tasted fine but it was really messy, my hands were covered in slime, and every bite pushed the patty further away from the bun. That is most likely user error but still. Love a sandwich spot. This place has very unique sandwiches and "funky fries". Line was to the door when I came and seating wasn't that spacious although if you wait around you'll find somewhere to sit. I ordered a bacon and brie sandwich with the duck duck goose fries. To be honest, the fries were better than the sandwich but I still enjoyed both. The sandwich could've used a sweeter or more potent jam and thicker bacon as I felt like I was just tasting chicken and cheese. Was this the best burger I've ever eaten? Yes, yes I do believe it was. It lives up to all the hype. Alton Brown was not wrong. Here's the description: "CROQUE GARCON BURGER It rhymes with "smoke cars on," and it's a 1/3 pound Jon's Naturals burger with cheese, ham, a sunny-side-up Evetta Farms egg, green onion, mustard, and truffle mayo on a Ciabatta roll." We asked for the beef to be cooked a little less than medium and it was cooked perfectly! They aren't kidding when they said it was messy. I'm glad we sat in the back because I'm sure the sight of me devouring this long anticipated burger was not attractive. Not to fear, my hubby was doing the same. The Duck, Duck Goose fries were good but the griddled cheese curds weren't real hot. The sauce was just a little too sweet for me but they were still good. The Funky Fungi Fries were AMAZING! The fried mushrooms really elevated these fries. We fought over these. The daily special was a chicken sandwich with a ton of ingredients including pepperoni marinara. If I can find the description, I'll update this post. It was good but the burger above was just the best! Someone has a very funny sense of humor with the bathroom signs. After moving from Nebraska, this is the #1 place i have to hit each time i come back. I have been here so many times and love to try something new each time and i am yet to have a bad meal. The service is great and always very friendly. It bugged me how the owners were all sanctimonious complaining about the streetcar, but gods I cannot resist the poutine. Literally the only place I've had authentic-tasting poutine in the US. Other peoples' reviews have covered a lot for this place. I just want to add my two cents and a moment for the fries. Please see the duck,duck, goose fries and fungi fries pictured. Expect a line on the weekends, you order at the counter and then find a place to sit. We stood around for ~5 minutes and then found a table big enough. So, be patient. It will happen. They let us know while in line that they would stop taking orders in 30 minutes (closing time). I wasn't sure what we were supposed to do with that information. We made it just fine, but seems like they should put a "last man" sign if they know they have people up through closing. Food took ~15 minutes to all come out. The Croque Garçon is one of their famous burgers for a good reason. I love a runny egg in my burger, was even ok with the mustard when I'm not a mustard fan. I figured I should get it without modifications to understand its glory. The fries though were the best part. Duck duck goose fries were absolutely scrumptious and had a little cran sauce for a hunt of sweet that cut all the fat. Mm mm mm. If I lived here, I would try all the fries multiple times. read more

Went on a Saturday night. Place was packed. It's an order at the counter place and seat yourself. Very unique items on the menu. Poutine, crab Rangoon fries, duck confit etc. I had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. It was very crisp and moist on the inside. Could have used some additional heat. I absolutely adore this place. It is the perfect place to have a meal with friends or a quick bite to eat. They have stellar food at a reasonable price. The grilled cheese is my absolute favorite and each time I come I enjoy trying the different jams. The fries are outstanding and the sauce is just a 10/10. They are vegetarian friendly and also have very tasty meat if that's what you are looking for. Their service is efficient and they are all friendly. I have never been here and been disappointment. Block 16 is ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS busy but it is worth the wait. We were starving after landing in Omaha, found Block 16 on yelp and close proximity to the airport, so we headed to Downtown Omaha. Parking was tough since there are only metered parking spaces on the street, but we lucked out and found one. The entrance was a little hidden, as they had a black shielding by the door, and no signage, except for est. 2020 above the covering. Once inside, there were a few seats in the main dining room and additional seating in the attached room. Walked in at 1:58 with no line and as we walked in we were told that they close at 2pm and we would have to be out of the restaurant by 230, even though yelp hours stated they close at 3pm. But, we were starving and so grateful they were able to take our order. Menu consists of unique burgers and a few chicken sandwiches, wraps and fun fries with have toppings on them. We ordered the Block Burger $11.95 and Croque Garcon Burger $12.95 and 2 sides of sweet potato fries, but they were sold out, so we opted on the seasoned fries. The meat on both burgers were tasty and we preferred the Block burger over the Croque Garcon. The Croque burger was slathered in sauce, it was too much for my personal preference. I heard that the food here was really good, so we thought we would give it a try. Not knowing what to really expect..We were not disappointed. With names like "Croque Garcon Burger" and Dragon Fries, and well written descriptions of what each dish is. Take your time and decide. It was so busy the night we went, that I had the opportunity to stand in line and watch how well the staff worked out the logistics of getting the food out to customers. It's an extremely well oiled machine! Every person had their job and did it well. Once you order your food and you're given your order number, you go find yourself a seat at any of the 5 communal open seating tables. If that isn't to your liking, there are a few smaller tables for two scattered around the small interior of the restaurant. All very inviting, even when sitting at a large table for 8 strangers. There's a huge mural on the wall that you can't miss. It seems to be a very popular topic of conversation. It's kind of like a "seek and find puzzle" without meaning to be. Have fun with it. Overall, I don't think you can go wrong here. The burgers are seasoned well, the fries come in various varieties and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. How have I never reviewed Block 16? This has to be one of the most consistently delicious restaurants in Omaha. No matter what time you come here, it WILL be busy. I suggest calling/ordering ahead for pick-up if you are in a hurry. My favorites include the bacon and brie sandwich and three happiness burger. The birria-ish sandwich is a new favorite of mine. The meat is SO flavorful and the juices soak into the bread, which allowed me to enjoy it like an open-faced sandwich. My boyfriend got the corque garcon burger, and he loved it. We also both though the fries were fantastic, but we were extra impressed by the fry sauce. I believe it's a garlic aioli. Order an extra sauce; you won't regret it. read more

Block 16 is always bustling with activity - never a visit without a line. The wait does have the silver lining of helping the tables turn over efficiently in the small space. While one person is finishing their meal, another person will take their places in the dining area. (It reminds me a bit of Good Lookin's seating arrangement). It's a small spot with a lot of eager patrons. I ordered the Croque Garcon burger this time, the flavor was great, but it came with a side of grease. While my taste buds reveled in the experience, my stomach had a bit of a reckoning later on. I checked out the menu board photos from two years ago on Yelp, and it's astonishing how much the prices have shot up in such a short span. Although the food at Block 16 is undeniably fantastic, the price tag has hit over $20 mark for a single-person meal now. That's a significant uptick that many restaurants everywhere is now following the same trend. I only got a burger, no sides, and the cost was $17.60 after tipping. Oh, where do I even begin? This place is absolutely "AMAZING" (and I mean it)! I'm only in town once a year for school, but I simply can't resist coming here. Admittedly, I don't always remember the names of the dishes because I can't wait to order. I usually send my husband ahead while I grab us a table. But let me tell you, everything here is phenomenal. The spicy fried chicken was a flavor explosion, though it was the kind of spiciness you'd expect from Thai cuisine. And I am Thai. I usually can handle spicy foods. I wanted to keep devouring it, but it's the kind of heat that makes you take breaks, haha. Small dining areas aren't something I'm used to, not being from Omaha, but the friendly atmosphere and the willingness of others to share long tables make it all the more charming. More of a 3.5 but not a 4. The first place that was a true disappointment. The Croque burger that Alton Brown claims is the best just isn't. Its a bigger smash burger, an in between size that just isn't write. My burger wasn't pink, overcooked and lacking seasoning. All I tasted was mustard. The chicken ranch was pretty solid, leading me to believe that Omaha just might have the best fried chicken overall in the country. In town for a sporting event with my granddaughter. Wanted to go somewhere nice for her first time in Omaha. Block 16 was nearby and seemed like a great place to have lunch. I chose the Sloppy Nick - and it's just like mama used to make, amped up a bit. Very comforting and filling. Loved the pickles on top. The bread was toasty and good. Cheese - suuuuper gooood. The only complaint was that it said it was on two jalapeño cornbread slices, but I did not recognize it as cornbread. Really seemed like regular bread to me - it did not have a cornbread taste. Not sure if it was a mix up or I'm just crazy. Still a good sandwich though. Hubby had the Fried Chicken Thighs - he said it was very good. Got a 3-piece: 2 regular and 1 Nashville hot. Flavor was good. Moist, juicy and with an excellent crisp. The hot chicken flavor did not quite come together like a traditional hot chicken. The spices weren't blended together well or something? Overall, very tasty though and appreciative of them using the thighs - the best part of the chicken. We also got the Elote Fries - a shareable size. Very indulgent. Topped with corn, queso fresco, and a Parmesan smoked paprika lime aioli. There was a lot of aioli on top, kind of swimming in it. I enjoyed them, but aioli on the side would've been better for me. Block 16 is a small restaurant. On our day, it was very busy, not enough tables to go around. We enjoyed our lunch very much. Would love to go back and try it for dinner. One day. read more
