I absolutely adore this place. It is the perfect place to have a meal with friends or a quick bite to eat. They have stellar food at a reasonable price. The grilled cheese is my absolute favorite and each time I come I enjoy trying the different jams. The fries are outstanding and the sauce is just a 10/10. They are vegetarian friendly and also have very tasty meat if that's what you are looking for. Their service is efficient and they are all friendly. I have never been here and been disappointment. Block 16 is ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS busy but it is worth the wait. I wish I lived closer so I could frequent it more but it's probably a good thing I don't so I don't consume all my calories here. 10/10 would recommend Block 16! read more

We were starving after landing in Omaha, found Block 16 on yelp and close proximity to the airport, so we headed to Downtown Omaha. Parking was tough since there are only metered parking spaces on the street, but we lucked out and found one. The entrance was a little hidden, as they had a black shielding by the door, and no signage, except for est. 2020 above the covering. Once inside, there were a few seats in the main dining room and additional seating in the attached room. Walked in at 1:58 with no line and as we walked in we were told that they close at 2pm and we would have to be out of the restaurant by 230, even though yelp hours stated they close at 3pm. But, we were starving and so grateful they were able to take our order. Menu consists of unique burgers and a few chicken sandwiches, wraps and fun fries with have toppings on them. We ordered the Block Burger $11.95 and Croque Garcon Burger $12.95 and 2 sides of sweet potato fries, but they were sold out, so we opted on the seasoned fries. The meat on both burgers were tasty and we preferred the Block burger over the Croque Garcon. The Croque burger was slathered in sauce, it was too much for my personal preference. I heard that the food here was really good, so we thought we would give it a try. Not knowing what to really expect..We were not disappointed. When you walk in, you are immediately hit with the realization that this place is different. It's busy, very busy, it's loud, it's crowded, but everyone seems to be very happy to be here. With names like "Croque Garcon Burger" and Dragon Fries, and well written descriptions of what each dish is. Take your time and decide. It was so busy the night we went, that I had the opportunity to stand in line and watch how well the staff worked out the logistics of getting the food out to customers. It's an extremely well oiled machine! Every person had their job and did it well. Once you order your food and you're given your order number, you go find yourself a seat at any of the 5 communal open seating tables. If that isn't to your liking, there are a few smaller tables for two scattered around the small interior of the restaurant. All very inviting, even when sitting at a large table for 8 strangers. There's a huge mural on the wall that you can't miss. It seems to be a very popular topic of conversation. It's kind of like a "seek and find puzzle" without meaning to be. Have fun with it. We were going to a show at the Orpheum and heard this is the place to go! This classic, yet elevated, burger joint should be on your Omaha list of places to try. There is a wide selection of burgers to fit every taste and you'll have your burger (or chicken sandwich) in about 15-20 minutes with some very fast service. This is nothing fancy, but it has exactly what you need. Very basic and disjointed vibe but when you have such good food, you don't need anything fancy. While my taste buds reveled in the experience, my stomach had a bit of a reckoning later on. I checked out the menu board photos from two years ago on Yelp, and it's astonishing how much the prices have shot up in such a short span. Although the food at Block 16 is undeniably fantastic, the price tag has hit over $20 mark for a single-person meal now. Oh, where do I even begin? This place is absolutely "AMAZING" (and I mean it)! I'm only in town once a year for school, but I simply can't resist coming here. Admittedly, I don't always remember the names of the dishes because I can't wait to order. I usually send my husband ahead while I grab us a table. But let me tell you, everything here is phenomenal. The spicy fried chicken was a flavor explosion, though it was the kind of spiciness you'd expect from Thai cuisine. And I am Thai. I usually can handle spicy foods. I wanted to keep devouring it, but it's the kind of heat that makes you take breaks, haha. Small dining areas aren't something I'm used to, not being from Omaha, but the friendly atmosphere and the willingness of others to share long tables make it all the more charming. In town for a sporting event with my granddaughter. Wanted to go somewhere nice for her first time in Omaha. Block 16 was nearby and seemed like a great place to have lunch. I chose the Sloppy Nick - and it's just like mama used to make, amped up a bit. Very comforting and filling. Loved the pickles on top. The bread was toasty and good. Cheese - suuuuper gooood. The only complaint was that it said it was on two jalapeño cornbread slices, but I did not recognize it as cornbread. Really seemed like regular bread to me - it did not have a cornbread taste. Not sure if it was a mix up or I'm just crazy. Still a good sandwich though. Hubby had the Fried Chicken Thighs - he said it was very good. Got a 3-piece: 2 regular and 1 Nashville hot. Flavor was good. Moist, juicy and with an excellent crisp. The hot chicken flavor did not quite come together like a traditional hot chicken. The spices weren't blended together well or something? Overall, very tasty though and appreciative of them using the thighs - the best part of the chicken. We also got the Elote Fries - a shareable size. Very indulgent. Topped with corn, queso fresco, and a Parmesan smoked paprika lime aioli. There was a lot of aioli on top, kind of swimming in it. I enjoyed them, but aioli on the side would've been better for me. Block 16 is a small restaurant. On our day, it was very busy, not enough tables to go around. We enjoyed our lunch very much. Would love to go back and try it for dinner. One day. read more

The day I ate here, they were only able to except cash for payment, so I was only able to get one item. I saw from the reviews this was highly recommended, so I got the duck duck goose fries. It is sort of a strange combination, but it did work very well together! There was a short line, but the staff was very polite, and they brought the food quicker than was estimated. We're not from Omaha but Block 16 makes me wish we were. I got the Croque Garçon burger, which apparently Alton Brown called one of his favorite burgers in the country. I have to admit, I can be picky about food- hold the mayo, extra something- but I decided to trust the chefs here and I'm so glad I did. Burger, cheese, ham, sunny-side up egg, truffle mayo, mustard, all on a ciabatta roll. It is, to be clear, VERY messy to eat, but gosh it's just so good. My husband enjoyed the poutine burrito, and we split an order of the dragon fries, which I highly recommend. The restaurant itself is a very no frills type of place, which suited us perfectly well. We went around lunchtime, and there was a decent line but honestly it's impressive how quickly they went through it and got our food out. Efficiency and practicality is clearly paramount here, and, like so many of their oddball combinations, it just WORKS. I think it says something very good about a restaurant when I really want to try about half a dozen other things, but also don't ever want to have to order anything except the meal I got the first time. I always go as close to opening as I can to get ahead of the long line, but also don't mind waiting because their food is worth it. The atmosphere is very casual, and you order at the counter before finding a seat and having the food brought out to you. Despite the long lines, I've always gotten my food very quickly. I love looking on their Facebook page for daily specials. My go-to in the past has been the Block Burger, but I decided to try something new and ordered the poutine burrito. The first spot we had to check out when we went to Omaha because we heard so many great things about it! Walking in, I was already amazed with the amount of awards on their walls. They know what they are doing. The Crab Rangoon fries were the star of the show for me. I would 10/10 order again. The crispy chicken sandwich was good but I wouldn't stand in-line for it. We went up to the counter to order. It looks like they mainly sell burgers and fries but they had so many options for it. I couldn't pick one so I had both the poutine and the crab Rangoon fries. The poutine was the standard combo of fries cheese and gravy. It was good but not as good as the crab Rangoon fries. The crab Rangoon fries had crab, cream cheese, fried wanton strips and sweet chili sauce. They were done if the best fries I've had. The price was a little expensive. 2 orders of fries cost me around 15 dollars but it's worth it read more

I'll admit it's extremely daunting choosing just one dish, but the croque garçon burger had me at 'truffle'. Yep, I'm a sucker for truffle anything but how can one pass up the chance to eat any burger in what might be the beef capital of the us? Beef patti ham, cheese, an egg and truffle Mayo. This did not at all disappoint! This is a perfect ensemble of flavor and simply pure decadence. And this is coming from a guy who hates eggs in burgers. What takes this over the top is something I didn't even consider....how good the bread is!
