We've been to Block 16 three times now, and the service and food are consistently top notch. They have great craft beer options, their menu staples are delicious, and the rotating menu options are always amazing. We've tried the poutine burrito, block deluxe, croque garçon burger, Nash fries, and duck duck goose fries. I would recommend any of these options! I loved this place. We were in Omaha to see Book of Mormon and popped in for a quick dinner. It is very small and they were out of many of their beer options so that was odd but the food was GOOD. My husband and I shared the pulled pork sandwich and the pork was so amazingly good! We also shared the Gyro and that was awesome too. The couple we were with chose the fried chicken and I think they thought it was fine but nothing to write home about. read more

The duck duck goose fries are delicious, but heavy. My chicken philly was delicious. My husband had the pulled pork roll and while the pork was good and not dry...he said it would be much better with some BBQ sauce. This place has limited seating so be aware during busy dining times. I went before covid when lines were out the door and there was a 20+ standing room only wait. The food was AMAZING!!!! The only thing that was too much was the duck fat fries (IDK what they were called) were too rich and stunk but they were still good. Food is great!! Service another story. I parked 3 blocks away,stool in line 30 mins for the cashier to tell me I had to take my food to go because they close at 3 and it was 2:30. I thought about it and was like just give me a refund my food will be soggy when I get home. A sweet Blondie told me I could stay after I asked for my $30 back. Holy arterial sclerosis Batman! O-M-G. This food is fantastic! Bit pricey for my budget. But man, is it GOOD. Definitely try it all if you get the chance. $16.75 with tax = An awesome Croque Garcon burger and Duck Duck Goose Fries. Would like to return someday but for now I think it's pricey. I've been here twice now and this small, casual place is amazing. Went there for lunch with some colleagues, got there at 11 because this place gets packed. I ordered a sandwich with bacon, arugula and Camembert, served on toasted artisanal bread with apple butter. The contrast of the saltiness of the thick slab bacon, with the creaminess of the Camembert, the sweetness of the apple butter with the crunch of the bread was fantastic. Took a humble sandwich and made it amazing. My friends had the fries, some in duck fat, some with a dragon sauce and all were amazing even though I could hear their arteries hardening as we ate. This is real food made by great people with care and quality ingredients. A definite must in Omaha. read more

What to do in Omaha and where can you eat? Thumbing through must eats in Omaha, Block16 popped up as pretty much the only place I could get to. I'm here temporarily for work and can only walk to a local place. Its just on the next block from my office. SWEET!!!! Also found that Alton Brown named a burger at Block16 to be his favorite. If Alton says its good, you better believe it. I get myself a Croque Garcon burger and some Duck Duck Goose fries. I was okay with the burger but those fires were the best part of the meal.I loved it so much I ate there again a few days later but only got the Duck Duck Goose and Dragon Fires. The Dragon sauce was so good. They need to bottle it! I could've skipped the fortune cookie cause it was stale. read more

The staff was wonderful and the food was delicious! This was our first visit here. The staff was nice enough to guide us through the menu and make suggestions. I went with the pulled pork sandwich, poutine (really enough for 2 people) and a glass of wine. My son had the philly steak sandwich combo (includes plain fries and a drink) Our total was approx. $28. Everything was really good. My only complaints are that the music was really, really loud and other patrons were standing with the door open which made it really chilly where we were sitting. The place was really busy for 4 pm on a Saturday. We were in and out in about 40-45 minutes. I am sure if you are going at peak hours you may want to allow a little extra time. I will definitely be going back as there are many more things I want to try on this menu. read more

Just a quick disclaimer: I'm vegetarian, so this review is based solely on their veg menu items. Omg, this place! Yum. I live in West O, so hitting up Block 16 is a rare treat. I've probably eaten there only 10-15 times over the years, which means I'm not what you'd call a regular, and I don't know any staff by name or anything like that. Again, only reviewing their veganized/vegetarian items: The reuben: a big hot mess of amazing (no seriously, I had to eat this with a fork it was so sloppily delicious.) The bologna sandwich: OMFG. I just can't even explain the flavors. The gyro is the best I have ever had, including the veggie gyro I adore from Jim & Jennie's. I've never had the philly because I can't seem to break away from the bologna sandwich and/or the gyro to try something new, but a vegetarian friend of mine got one and she loved it. And finally, the dragon wrap is great, though not at the top of my list. I love love love their onion rings, but it seems like almost every time I go there they've just run out. I'm sure the regulars know the trick/timing to beat this, but I do not. So get the onion rings if you can, because they are the BEST on the planet. But if they don't have them, their fries are a pretty dang good substitute. When you order, ask for a side of dragon sauce for the fries, cuz it's yummers, and can be made vegan if you ask! read more

French fry enthusiasts unite! And by unite, I mean go to Block 16 whenever you are in Omaha and know that other French fry-ers will be there. I arrived at 3:01 pm on Monday. The sign said they close at 3 pm. But, a very thoughtful employee came outside and said 'hey, we take to go orders. Can we get you some food?' Score! I was travel weary and hungry. So the only reason this isn't a 5 is because I did not experience the table service. This is a sandwich joint with tons of personality. Surely there is a hot sandwich or salad to satisfy anyone. But the centerpiece order must be the French fries. Best housemade fry sauce I've ever had. Better than any in Montreal and those Canadiens act like they invented it. read more

Our visit was pretty brief, we heard that they had great burgers so we had to check it out. This was another one of those places were they are so good and popular that visits can be a bit of hassle. We arrived right around two, and the place was packed, not an empty chair to be seen. This bodes well for the business, but it stresses me out a bit. I could always go somewhere else but I'm in town visiting and had my heart set on trying this place out, and I think eating my burger standing in a corner would make the experience less than rewarding. What a great lunch spot! I saw the great reviews and had to see what this place was about. Came in around Noon and the line was close to the door and just about every table was full. I ordered to go the duck, duck, goose fries just because it had such an intriguing list of ingredients, duck confit, crispy skin over fries, uh...yum! I waited a little bit for my order and tried to admire the space or the lack of it during a full lunch time crowd. Anyway, when I got my order I went to my hotel room and just admired its gloriously yummy appearance before I digged in. Absolutely some of the best fries ever. The crispy duck skin and the sauce on it was wonderful. The next time I am here I will have to try that burger with an egg on top of it. Avoid this place for lunch if you can, unless you are one of the first at the door or have a whole hour to just wait for your food, don't mind the noise, and overcrowded room. Your patience will rewarded in kind with great food. Personally, I like to get what people buzz about before going adventurous: can't go wrong with the food that the cook has to make 100 of times each day, I went with philly and duck duck goose. The philly tasted great, the meat was a bit dry but the taste was there. Duck duck goose tasted fantastic, maybe a dash of seasoning would make it better. What a lovely downtown Council Bluff has. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my husband had the Block Burger and we shared some Dragon Fries. The pork was wonderfully tender and mildly seasoned. I do have to comment that you Northerners have a relationship with mayonnaise that I neither understand nor encourage. Bleh! The Dragon fries were different and very rich. This place is the best! The sauce they give for burgers and other sandwiches is really good. They usually have a special of the day that you can check their Facebook for and some have been so good I wish I could have it all the time. A word of advice, if they have a special you like, go there as soon as you can. 11am if possible because they definitely sell out. When I don't get their special, i usually get a burger with an egg or their pulled pork and ask for it to be spicy. Both are always good. Lastly, when they have bad weather they close early so their workers can get home safely. Very respectable! read more

Wow! Just wow! Loved this food when I tried it for the first time the other day. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich and have been craving it since! It came with brown gravy which was not too salty. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich and he said it was fabulous. They almost forgot to give us the fry sauce and I am sure glad they didn't because it was delicious too! If you are a picky eater, then you may not like these adventurous sandwiches. However, I would say stop being picky because you are missing out on some great food! They are in the middle of remodeling and do not have an overhead system to call you when your order is ready. So, you have to stand at the counter with everyone else to wait on your food. Fantastic vegetarian food in a niche that is often difficult to go meatless. I had a "vegan" Philly cheesesteak with cheese. We shared onion rings on the side. They were awesome and thickly battered, but pretty greasy. Overall, the menu was a surprisingly nice combination of the standard street food in addition to many unique and thoughtful offerings. This place has unusual pairings of ingredients and some cannot be changed which was disappointing. Most had some kind of form of vinegar. It was pretty pricey and a bit slow for a sandwich place. I got the buffalo chicken which had iceberg lettuce, blah, in an unimpressive bun. The chicken was good but it fell apart when I tried to eat it. I ended up not eating the bun. My companion had better luck with a bacon and Brie sandwich. The 'spiced" fries were mediocre. It all came to $22 with one drink. Not worth it. read more

This place was hoppin'. Met up with a few friends and we we're lucky to snag two tables to merge in the back room. The front room where you place your order was very warm and cozy (probably all the heat from the kitchen). Long lines and mostly filled tables. Only one person taking orders so it moved a bit slowly but nothing to cry about. I had the PCF fried chicken thighs in both traditional and Nashville hot flavors. It was tongue burning hot when delivered but overall delicious. The Nashville hot chicken was a pleasant balance of sweet and spicy. I've never had it before and didn't realize it would be more of a dry spice. I also ordered the poutine which while delicious was way too salty. The cheese curds were melty and chewy but I think the saltiness of the gravy overpowered the dish. My partner had the Red Knight sandwich and liked it but wished the mac n cheese was served on the side as it was messy to eat. Our friends enjoyed their block burgers, fries and salad. We also enjoyed the honey wheat beer and no coast IPA. Another disappointment was that the beer menu was not fully visible so you couldn't easily read the last two items. When I asked, the person at the counter also couldn't see the bottom. It was nice to see the compostable straws though - save the turtles! read more

Yelp to the rescue again! While in Omaha we were looking for a quick bite to eat at a place that accommodates both vegetarians and carnivores alike and Block 16 really fit the bill. This is street style food with a modern funky flair. This is strictly counter service and the meal options were on a board. Since they make their own seitan they were out that day but there were plenty of other choices. This is a farm to table restaurant with local source and natural ingredients whenever possible, though they don't mind bringing some junk food on occasion: in particular the dirty fries with pickles and Funyuns on top. Crazy! Small sandwiches and burgers are the main dishes along with different fry combinations besides the dirty fries: duck fat, gangsta and poutine. People rave about the fried chicken but the fries were nearly a meal within themselves. A nice bottled micro brew list because beer and fried food have been scientifically proven to go together. Service was friendly and I enjoyed chatting about how they made the seitan there and it finally inspired me to make it at home. read more
