The salon was easy to find, tucked away in a corner. There's plenty of parking on either sides of the building. Poppy Salon is full of life and individuals with artistic skills. It may be busy inside but the energy is infectious. This isn't a permanent location, however, and Poppy Salon will eventually be moved into a larger building next year. I'm really looking forward to seeing the changes! I personally work with Isabella (Isa) and have been seeing her for over a year now. She is such a vibe and I have so much fun when I see her! Isa is incredibly talented with vivid hair color. I went to someone else in between colorings (yes, I cheated and came crying back) and it was just not the same. Isa is worth the 45 minute drive! My youngest got a color streak in the front. No idea why I spend the money on this, other than it excites her as much as Christmas morning. I am grateful I can do these types of things. My older daughter, however, had grown her hair to her butt...beautiful, wavy, full, high-maintenance hair that had become her signature. I swear other kids followed her around just to see the hair flow in the air as she walked and smell the flowery products that helped keep such tresses in check. But too much work and she decided to get it cut--a lot. Jeff counseled her during an impromptu stop on a Saturday afternoon, describing how he'd do the work and that he understood how much her hair was a part of her, her personality and that this was a scary endeavor...he eased my mind during that consult. Three days later, she was in the chair. After the shock of the first cuts--culminating is a good-sized donation for Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program--the scariness faded and a wonderful, light, bouncy cut emerged. The hair was shaped well, taken to a perfect length (accounting for hundreds of curls), and clear instruction on how to care for the new style (no heavy product push) was given through the process. I left with a very happy, very energized 13-year old who appeared to have entered a new phase of her life. Altered Image is owned and operated by great people, doing great work, with passion, empathy, a true sense of caring, and a healthy dose of fun. I may have no hair, but I'll be happy to take my girls here any time. This is the Durham I love.

Sasha, my stylist, brought me to the shampoo chair, where my head and neck were actually in a comfortable position, and gave me the most relaxing scalp massage. It felt like I was at a spa, not a hair salon. By the time I got to Sasha's chair, I had my custom coffee drink waiting for me. However, the price is crazy and they definitely don't explain that you pay for the product they use. So I have short hair and as a new customer I got a $25 discount. I didn't get a root touch or a toner. Just a simple partial highlight and my total with a 20% tip was $407 including the $25 off so regular price for short hair, partial highlight with no toner or root touch is $432. Just to be clear I did NOT get a haircut but she did blow dry my hair. I thought that was overpriced and for that reason I won't go back but if the price doesn't bother you Kylah was sweet and did a great job. Also, I was quoted by Kylah before she started $300-$350 but that it should be less than that and she was quoting me the highest it would be.
