Blo-Out Bella - flaky scalp after wash - Blow Dry/Out Services Near Me - Durham, North Carolina

Every hairdresser knows that a woman's hair is her crown and the task of taking care of a woman's crown should not be taken lightly. My daughter made an appoint with Helene, an African American hair dresser, for a trim, blowout and flat iron. What my daughter walked away with was 4 inches of hair gone and very disappointed with Helene who asked no questions prior to snipping away at my daughter's hair nor any follow through from the owner, Santos, except to say that Jenny would fix it. How do you fix 4 inches of lost hair. My daughter still has not received a response back from the owner nor Jenny who is said to fix this situation. Yes, my daughter's hair will grow back over a long period of time; however, the hairdresser should never have cut her hair without communicating what she was going to do. My daughter requested a trim. This is very disappointing. I will no longer visit this establishment. One bad apple is all it takes. I am not detouring you from visiting this establishment, I am suggesting that you ask questions every step in the process from how much you are actually going to charge me to what do you consider a trim and I want you to show me what you plan to trim. I hope this review saves another woman's crown from vanishing without thought from Helene or any other hairdresser. read more

The blow out was nice. However the stylist was all over the place and was on tiktok live while doing my hair. She didn't ask if this ok and I wasn't aware till the end. Very very uncomfortable. read more

I travel back and forth from NC now with my new job. We were going to take new employee pictures so I decided to get a blow out done. I went here because it was close to the hotel I was staying at. I am so glad I went here! The owner of the salon is name Santos (I think) and he is so sweet. This is a family business that is run by a husband and wife duo. I love supporting local businesses vs chains because I know that I am directly helping someone with their dream (I assume most people start a business because they want to do something they love). The customer service here is great and Santos is very talented. He has worked in the hair business for a few years and now finally has his own salon. I got a standard blow out and he was able to make it look like a curling iron was used! I dont know how he does it but it honestly looked amazing! They also have great specials on Mondays and Tuesdays since those are the slower days in the week. I will definitely be going here again and I would recommend this place to others! read more

I have gone here several times to get my hair braided. It always turns out looking so well and the lady who does my hair is very nice. Sometimes I think they overbook themselves since there are sometimes really long waits, but my hair always looks so good. read more

We have been here to a few places for blowouts for my daughter. This by far has been the best. Santos has been my daughter's stylist the two times we have been and her hair looks amazing when he is done. The semi permanent conditioner treatment really made her hair super soft after the summer damage. The price is a little more than other locations but they offer a discount on Monday and Tuesday. read more

First I've never had a blow out take 2.5 hours when I wasn't sharing a chair. I thought she was just taking her time but it is clear from the results that this was a miss. I'm sure the stylist meant well but it was not worth the money paid. 10 minutes after walking out the salon my hair is already starting to curl back up and become fluffy. Now, some might blame the humidity but this isn't my first summer blowout. AND my hair just isn't long enough at current to make the appointment drag out. The stylist kept trying to upsell (which is fine) a deep conditioner but I've never needed a deep conditioner prior to a blow out. I usually do them as two separate services. I will say the facility is neat, clean and quite so that alone deserves the two stars. Will not be returning... read more

I am so sorry that I can't remember my stylist's name but she is pictured in my photo! She was sweet and most importantly 100% competent. I was alone in the salon at 6 PM on a Tuesday night. It was really relaxing. I had previously washed my hair, she adapted by asking if she could just wet my hair to ensure a proper blow dry. After carefully wetting my hair (careful not to wet my face, ears, or neck) we moved to the blow dry chair. She spoke to me about what id like to see. I prefer a 'traditional' blow out. No curling irons, no curling wands, absolutely no straightners. Just a brush and a blow dryer! She understood completely, she added that my hair is the perfect type of hair to take to any style and wouldn't require any additional tools. I requested no teasing for volume or hair spray- a properly done blow dry should last with plenty of volume! I am happy to say she delivered. As soon as I sat down and began to do my work I felt like she was done! There was no pulling at my hair or unnecessary complaining about how her arms hurt or even worse- other clients or colleagues! The result was beautiful and lasted FOR A FULL WEEK. If I didn't have to wash my hair I could have kept it for longer. Great job! $35 + tip on credit card. read more

Did an amazing job on my daughter's hair trim was awesome and hair came out looking shiny and healthy!! Thank you Bella Blow Out!!

I passed this the other day and made a bookmark to give it a try. I love getting my hair straightened and my regular stylist is pretty busy and their place doesn't offer this service. It was $35. She washed my hair and blew it dry. I was concerned I'd have stick straight hair but she did a fantastic job. I think the style I got is called the Power Trip which amused me. It was so soft and had the perfect bounce I was looking for. I had planned to go a nail shop next but they informed me they did pedicures as well. The pedicure girl was able to do it while my hair was being done. I felt so pampered!! Add a yummy strawberry smoothie to it and I was good! They do bridal parties here as well as a girl night out and even kids. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating and I didn't even have an appointment!! So fun! I will be back read more

I found Blo Out Bella a few months ago when they did a Groupon promotion. I figured that I would splurge some and treat myself. I have A LOT of hair that looks awesome when it is blow dried and curled...I just don't have the patience to put all the effort into doing it myself on a regular basis. I was a bit skeptical when going into my first appointment, but I was quickly won over! For starters, the place is SO PRETTY!!!!! You feel pretty just being in there! The staff is so nice and welcoming. I have gone three times now and feel super pampered. They offer hair styling, nail services, waxing, and makeup services. Ashley (my stylist) is always super friendly, genuinely nice, and remembers details about what we have talked about. I am definitely going to keep coming back! :) read more

I just moved to the area and was worried about trying a new place. But rest assure I had a 5 star experience here for a single mom approved price !!! They were extremely friendly, had no problem with my son sitting quietly and most importantly I am very pleased with my hair !! The products they use are high quality and the turn around was quick . I'm a woman of color and they are equips for ALL hair types... very peaceful place , will also try a pedicure next time !!! They honestly are a one stop shop , definitely going back! read more

I always did my own hair (and was not usually thrilled with the results) until a couple of years ago. I had a right foot injury (which meant I couldn't drive) & could not shampoo in the shower very easily & looked into "Dry Bars" where they shampoo & blow out your hair into the style you want. I came across Blo-Out Bella (my new puppy was Baby Bella as well), Ashley did my hair & I am hooked for life. She is amazing. She can do a stick straight style when I want that, or more volume when I am in the mood for that, as I was today. Her Brazilian Blo Out is wonderful-- it smoothed my hair & makes it much easier to manage between appointments. I usually get pedicures at a nearby nail salon but had Ashley give me a pedicure today & it was so much more thorough than other places! Ashley is always fantastic. She does a thorough shampoo & conditioning treatment & her scalp massage is fantastic! I have never posted a review for a salon before but Ashley is really special. read more

The prices online do not reflect what you pay in store. I thought I was getting a $40 blow out only to be charged $65. I'm assuming because she also curled my hair? But she did not tell me the styling was not included in blow out. Otherwise I would not have done the styling add on. Just make sure you ask for clarification before deciding on a service so you are not surprised. read more

Jenny is amazing. Wish I had a before photo, but please know that my hair was a hot mess (four months postpartum, tired, dry, etc) and now it is not. As a naturally curly-haired and tenderheaded person, I have a hard time finding a stylist who is patient and careful with my hair. So I was very pleasantly surprised that I was able to walk in on a Saturday afternoon and get a quality blow out on such short notice. Jaliyah did an excellent job on my hair, and the style lasted 10 days. Had a wonderful experience and would recommend Blo-out Bella to anyone, especially those with multi-ethnic/textured hair. read more

Do not go here if you have short hair!! The stylist was obviously inept in dealing with short tresses. I had pieces sticking out and he didn't appear to have the appropriate flat iron. I will not go back to this shop again! read more

Just ok. Went with my daughter for a special mommy/daughter day. No organization whatsoever. Couldn't find a curling iron to use on my 6 year old for her "special hair". No white wine. Gave me red wine in a soaking wet plastic cup. I asked for a napkin...they didn't have that. Hair ALL OVER THE PLACE. I know this is a hair place but they had no desire to clean up as they went. They had to wipe hair dye off the chair before I sat down and did it with a towel off of the floor. The positives: my daughters hair turned out cute, yelp coupon worked and my hair was dried by someone else! Unfortunately, was not worth the $91 we paid for my blowout, a 6 year old wash/dry/braid. read more

This was my second visit to Blo out Bella. The first visit was perfect, this visit I left very disappointed. Such a good idea and really cute shop but the blowout was just bad. Lots of pulling. Stylist didn't seem to know how to handle my wavy hair. It looked awful and I think she realized she did a bad job, but did not say anything. BUT...the owner did contact me and offer a free blowout. I have yet to go back, but I think I may try again. I think they need to get some better folks in there during the week. Everyone was super nice, but, it is a blow out shop, so you gotta be able to do that well. read more

I have my hair blown dry once a week by Jenny, the owner and it stays looking great all week. The staff is great and very accommodating.

I have been here probably 4 times now, and have always liked my stylist. The last time I came I saw Ashley- she did an amazing job blowing out and curling my hair. I wish I had taken photos, but I was really happy with it. I think the curls were $50, a regular blow out is $35. This is the best price I've seen in the triangle. The salon is located in a strip mall across the street from Southpoint. It's very convenient, and easy to access. read more

Awesome place! Jenny does my hair every week and last for the whole week! I don't like to use the flat iron on my hair. Jenny makes sure my hair is silk and with natural waves at the bottom. I really can't understand some of the reviews but I guess everyone is different. My hair is really long (waist) and takes her only 40 minutes to blow dry it. I recommend her 100%. read more

Yikes. I came here to have a blowout and curl done for family photos since my normal hairstylist was booked. I had a man do my blowout and it was awful awful awful. My hairstylist ALWAYS gives me good volume with her blowout, and I can do a half decent job at home myself. But he just flattened my hair down when he blow dried it and my hair was so flat and had ZERO volume. Before he started curling I asked him to add some volume up top, and he said the curls would add volume. He used no product at all and did a terrible job with the curls. And there was still no volume at the top. The hair dresser that was working on the lady next to me had to come take over and redo all of the curls. She somewhat salvaged it, and was very nice, but I was disappointed overall. I think if she had done my hair from the beginning it would have been much better, but she was trying to fix what had already been done so it was hard to work with. I would have washed and redone it myself at home if I had time. And very pricy- even more than my normal hairstylist and she does a much better job. read more

I went to Blo Out Bella for the first time today. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the owner who was super friendly and very attentive. I can't say enough about the stylist. She is the sweetest! More importantly, she did an excellent job with my hair. I love what she did. My hair can be temperamental when it comes to holding curls or waves, but the waves she put in my hair have now lasted for seven hours. Also, I really like the decor. I'll definitely be going back if I need some pampering or want my hair to look nice for an event. read more

Today was my first experience at Blo-Out Bella and it was fantastic! Jenny got my hair very straight! I got a Dominican blow-out with a flat iron. The best part was that I was in and out of the salon in 45-50 minutes. I have been to other salons that take over an hour and a half and that drives me nuts. It was $50 (I received the student discount which was $5) and I feel like that's a very fair price. I would definitely go back! read more

i absolutely DISLIKE coming here and i will NOT return. i called early this morning and was told they could take my walk in for a blowout. once i arrived, around 1:40pm, the girl (pink sweater) at the desk greeted me and said i could be seen; however, when i explained i only needed the regular blow out because i had washed and conditioned my own hair she changed her attitude and said they were booked and i could come back another time. i had to press the matter that i called and the fact that she just said 5 seconds ago i could be seen but since i'm not getting the more expensive blow out i cannot be serviced. she turned to the girl with purple hair standing next to her and began talking about me in Spanish. she doesn't know i speak and understand Spanish. i played it cool like i didn't know what they were saying just so i could keep the peace. i see plenty of caucasian or hispanic women walk in and have their hair styled, but me a black woman being given the run around every time i come here i have had enough. i will never spend another penny at this salon. the stylist was very nice but the receptionist with the pink cardigan is the reason i will not return. read more

They did a good job on my blow dry here. It's very close to Southpoint Mall (and my house), so this guided my choice go to there versus a specific recommendation.
