I've been racially profiled here the last few times I've come here. Whether the employees are white or brown or black, they have no qualms about staring at me from the end of an aisle or trying to appear casual as they follow me and ask me multiple times if I'm looking for anything in particular. I'm tired of it. Just today one of their female employees stared at me and my brother from the end of the aisle, silently for several seconds, as we looked around and talked about an upcoming project. I'm sure it's management making the employees do this but that doesn't make it any less dehumanizing nor does it quell my anger. It feels especially performative when you consider how they have a painting of what looks like a protester up and yet if you're a shade above cream they're going to be sure someone checks up on you to make sure you're not stealing. I guess artists with melanin don't exist and we're all here to steal. Do yourself a favor, support businesses like Artist and Craftsman Supply or Top's Art Supply instead. At least I don't get racially profiled there. read more

Seniors 'Beware'. As an Architectural Designer, licensed General Contractor, & Real Estate Broker, for 30 years I frequented Blick of Pasadena on Raymond. Never again! Their customer service verges on 'Senior Abuse', so if you do not wish to be treated rudely with a lack of respect, find another source of Art Supplies. Blick needs to take a page from Starbucks or Home Depot's book of customer relations, because right now the staff, 'including floor managers', stinks. I found this lousy attitude to be the case at Blick, whether early on a Saturday morning, or during the week. Furthermore, their prices are outrageous! Recently I needed to replace drafting paper, and for 50 sheets of an inferior quality their price was $40. Later that day at FedEx, I found and purchased a 500 page packet of the quality I needed, for $14.23 (including tax). Today I attempted to show the 'behind-the-counter-staff' the difference, so they might include this brand in their inventory, and all I got was a rude response. I will never shop there again, even if I need to drive across town. Who needs their rude behavior toward customers, or us 'seniors'? read more

I'd like to call out Mariam who I believe is the manager at the Blick Art Materials in Pasadena. She went above and beyond to help secure large black foam core boards I desperately needed and could not find anywhere. After looking online and all over LA, even at other Blick Arts, and being told that these boards were not available and being told that I could not special order them unless I ordered them in bulk ( at a thousand dollars plus cost) I had finally given up. On a fluke I waked into the Pasadena store and dejectedly told Mariam my dilemma. With no hesitation she volunteered to look Into it for me. At first she called the other branches and was met with the same resistance that I had encountered. But she did not give up. She then called the manufacturer and had a dozen boards ordered to her shop, even though I only need 2-3 of them. They are not a common or popular material so they are not big sellers, nonetheless she ordered them just for me with a smile and a great attitude. A week later when he boards arrived she called to alert me they had arrived. As if that was not enough, when I asked if she could cut them down to a specific size she happily did so, in spite of the stores general policy or not cutting boards for people. Mariam is an amazing asset at Blick Arts! They are lucky to have her and I am lucky to have run into her and her store. Thanks again Mariam!! read more

He went above and beyond. He checked their stocks in the back when items weren't available upfront. On top of that, he signed me up for an account to help me get a student discount! Nice place, but one staff member was unfriendly. I came here with my 2.5 year old, who was acting just like any other 2.5 year old. We were selecting a card, and he was sitting on the floor, or wanting to climb on the stairs or things of that sort, but nothing particularly disturbing. But a lady working there was not quite pleased and kept asking me if I needed help, even though I told her that I am fine. The people who work here are so helpful and kind! I called to ask if they had unprimed cotton canvas since I needed it for a class. They answered my questions and actually went above and beyond giving me more information, which was nice since I only called to ask if they had it in stock. I drove to the location straight after work and got there 30 mins before closing, I wouldn't have done if I didn't need it the next morning for class. The associates looked tired but that didn't effect the way they treated me. After I bought 2 yards of the canvas I waited by the cashiers and the gorgeous women with braids (sorry I didn't catch your names), and we were chatting while we waited for the canvas to be cut. Also shout out to the associates who had to reload the canvas and cut it for me I appreciated it so much! read more

Love this location. It is very old school and reminds me of college. Overall a nice selection of art supplies. Tons of street parking and there's a garage right across the street. It's in the heart of downtown Pasadena surrounded by tons of shops and restaurants. The Hotel Green is nearby. Blick is dog friendly to well behaved doggies. Lovely staff. It's a big dirty inside... they could definitely use a little dusting inside. Other than that it's really well stocked and convenient. read more

Only giving 5 stars because an employe name cass helped me a lot!!!!!! I didn't know that I was doing I was shopping as an assistant and I had to ask her a million questions and it was still confusing to me. Cass talked to my boss on the phone she advised me to call her and they talked it out explained everything I needed to buy and what exactly what my boss was looking for and wheewww after 10 minutes of standing at the register we finally got it together. At first I was stressed because I thought I was going to get the right stuff but cass kept it professional and reassured me that everything's going to be alright. I told I her wanted to leave a tip so bad but she said don't worry it's her job wow A+++++ give that lady a raise now I am super less stressed. I walked into Blick to look for a bit of paint for a small project. Even for someone like me who's not anywhere near being an artist, it's like being in a toy store. I don't know the first thing about what I'm looking for, and the nice folks in the store helped me find everything I needed. There were so many types of paints, brushes, materials--it looked crazy fun. I even thought about things I could make (even though I know I can never really make them). I think it's from watching all the Bob Ross episodes when I was younger. The pre-stretched canvases were well stocked, so who knows? I just might come back and get a few along with some tubes of acrylic paints. read more

Get this. So I go in last month to buy an airbrush. I get the airbrush and the propellant and leave. I realize that the airbrush did not include a hose, so I purchase a hose on Amazon that is compatible with my airbrush. It worked fine with the airbrush, but not with the propellant can. The threads of the hose's female receptor was too small for the can. So I go in to buy a hose from Blick, because I was certain that an art supply store should, obviously, carry equipment that is compatible with the only airbrush propellant they carry. I was wrong. I was sent on a wild goose chase to all the home depots in my area to find anything that would make the hose fit onto the propellant. Nobody carried ANYTHING OF THE FUCKING SORT. Safe to say, I regretfully won't be giving this place my business anymore. read more

Sometimes, I go in for supplies. Other times, I walk in to find my future artsy, troubled husband. This place has everything an artist could ever desire! I've come in here more than a dozen times, and still haven't memorized the spread. There is just so much awesome to absorb! The first floor is mostly the fun stuff, like paints, pens and basic supplies. The upstairs consists mostly of the larger stuff, like sketch pads, easels and carrying cases. Stuff like that. My boyfriend and I visited for the first time to get some colored pencils he wanted. He specifically needed certain colors in which he had the item numbers, but this particular location didn't have any of them. The parking isn't good for this one. If you're lucky to get the front spot to parallel park, then fine, otherwise, you have to park a few streets away and walk to the store on foot. The employee friendliness was average. read more

An art store that close to me! It has all the supplies you need for your creations, carrying quality items not the cheapo faux art supplies regularly supplied to kindergartens. As a student I strongly encourage you to sign up for the membership card for the extra savings, they mail you a coupon in the mail every once in a while for a 40% off a regularly priced item. =) Even if I don't need anything at the time, I would come down here and stock up on a canvas or pad of paper. It's not like art supplies spoil... well I guess paints or clay might dry up after time but generally speaking. =p Park in the structure across the street for 90 minutes of free parking. When you walk into the store their promotional items will be the first to greet you, don't forget to check upstairs that's where the keep drawing pads and paper, portfolio cases and easels. Staff is ready to ofter their help in locating items in the store. But when locating a box of paint featured in their flyer it took about 15 minutes for staff to find it. =/ I wasn't in a big rush or anything, but hey get it together! read more

It's a cute little art store, and the employees actually walk around asking customers if they need any assistance. I did get what I needed. The issue happened in the check out line. I was in the middle of my transaction when another customer walked up so close to me she was practically standing over my shoulder. I asked her to move and give me some room so that I can finish my transaction. The cashier did nothing about it and neither did the guy who was at the front door. I think some training needs to happen as far as managing the checkout line. I'm not sure if I'll will be back since the whole experience left me uncomfortable considering I was entering a private information and really wish the employees did their job. read more

Good place to shop, great employees, trash garbage place to work if you want your well-being taken seriously at all. The management singlehandedly turns what could be a decent job into a thankless triathlon. The only decent part of this store is the employees, who aren't paid well enough and are constantly underscheduled so the store is constantly understaffed. For a company that drives all other art stores out of business, you'd think they'd be able to at least "afford" to treat their employees with at the very least the bare minimum needed to live in the area, but every single person in that store who wasn't a manager has a second or third or fourth job (or otherwise is living with their parents). Wish this giant monopoly didn't drive every other small business art store to financial ruin during the pandemic because now I have no choice but to shop at this store, or buy everything directly from the manufacturer online. The employees have a ton of knowledge on not only the products themselves but also application and tips and tricks you didn't even ask for, but the management is clueless on the basics of human decency. The only reason to come in here is to ask for the employees expertise/opinions, but I honestly feel guilty for doing so when I know they're being paid not enough to live on much less enough to justify giving a Ted Talk to every other customer. You're knowingly profiting off their art school student debt without paying them enough to live on much less make a dent in the debt that you're making money off of. read more

I'm no "artiste" with an e at the end but any city with one Blick Store nearby should consider itself blessed. It's like the BevMo of art supplies basically, and in the way BevMo can disappoint niche connoisseurs (like ahem absinthe aficionados), it's your quintessential art supplies superstore that will nonetheless serve to fill many voids and has a wide spectrum of most basic (and even not so basic) needs. In which case ordering online would remedy as much as it sucks to not come in and have instant gratification. The employees are super chill and nice. I just dabble for fun and like supplies from pens to paints, brushes and notebooks...it's two stories and really packed so they have A LOT of stuff...I think the canvases and easels and blank gigantic notebooks are all exclusively on the second floor. Lots of surrounding parking structures have 90 minute free parking. read more

I've filled school orders from this store before and Mariam A. has gone above and beyond in helping me: pulling the items I am looking for, breaking down the cost, ringing it all up.. and it's A LOT of supplies!! This time I was in for personal shopping and Jeremy R. took the time to explain the different brands of oil paints and differences between cadmium and permanent colors. It's been a while since I painted for myself so the impromptu refresher course was awesome! Really, I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism and their unpretentious knowledgeable experience is off the charts! The amount of art supplies here are no joke! They have everything you could possibly be looking for and more. The employees are also so knowledge and helpful about all types of art. Most of them went to art school. One of the guys at the cashier helped me find all the supplies I needed and went into detail as to how to use & clean everything as well as how to dispose of it afterwards.
