I enjoy visiting this store to look around at all the various art supplies and talking to the staff. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, which makes shopping easy for me. I just walk up to the counter and tell them what I'm looking for. Instead of just pointing to where things are located, they'll escort me directly to it. I did notice several of their inventory is sourced from or made in Japan. The shop manager is really friendly and approachable. She'll walk right up to you and ask for a bit of pet and scratch. Oh, the shop manager is a cat. She'll even follow you throughout the store while you shop offering some not so valuable advice. Or maybe I just couldn't figure out the "meow" translation.

Love the items and their sweet cat. Prices were reasonable and even have cute supplies like a mini coloring pencils

Today's supply haul! (Including a cute little giveaway pouch that was part of today's sale!)

This is my favorite stop for all things art! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, and they carry a lot of high quality and eco friendly materials that are hard to find elsewhere. They also have a lot of awesome community involvement, store events, and demos. Also, they are just wonderful people!

Nicely laid out and well organized. You won't get overwhelmed by products. Love their selection of papers and pads. Purchased some new circle shaped watercolor paper by St Armand. I've never seen this anywhere else, not even in NYC. I'm recommending this store to all my art buds and I will be back, especially for the St. Armand. Good customer service, as well.

The class was scheduled for 2 hours. We ended an hour early with an end product that was a bit underwhelming. Our instructor was friendly enough, though never introduced herself nor took the time to ask the class (all 3 of us) our names. I wrote a letter to the owner and never got a response back. Highly unlikely I will return. Below is the letter I sent, including a few other underwhelming aspects to the class: "Hello! I took last evening's Macrame Weaving workshop. As I was driving back to Long Beach last evening after the class, I had some time to reflect on the workshop. I signed up for it to learn a new skill that I could potentially teach my students. (I've been an Art Teacher for many years). Unfortunately, I feel very disappointed with the class as a whole, as well as with our end result product. I believe the owner was there last evening; I regret not having pulled her aside to chat, though I wasn't quite clear on how I felt about the class until I was on my ride home. Our instructor was very friendly and I so appreciate the use of the high quality organic cotton cord. I also appreciated the hand out with the images of various knot styles. However, I don't even know what our instructor's name was. She never introduced herself or asked our names - there were only two other participants besides myself. We ended class nearly an hour early. This feels like a waste of project making and learning time. Either the project we did was too simple or our instructor wasn't thoroughly prepared. Her instruction was okay, though I don't think it is very helpful to physically do something for the student which she did a number of times. I believe it is more helpful to walk them through it verbally while allowing them to do it to experience the motions and acquire muscle memory. Craft is a great space! I wanted to share my thoughts because I think the class I took last evening could be improved upon for future students. Thank you for reading, Ivette"

We registered 5 weeks summer camp mainly in Pasadena, but it started a week after summer vacation so we had to find something for them and Thank God! Yes, it was the answer. Even my son who didn't want to go to the "Craft Class" just loved the full week. They provided all materials, snacks and games with very good price. We highly recommend people who live in local area just check this place out. They have fun things for kids and adults as well.

Currently Shorthand has 3 locations - Highland Park, Larchmont Village, and San Anselmo. This Highland Park location is the flagship location. [Parking]: There are plenty of metered parking spots and paid public parking lots, but parking can be hard to come by during busy shopping seasons. [Selection]: The shop offers greeting cards, pens, notebooks, pen, pencils, gift wraps, etc. I like the greeting card selection a lot better at Shorthand, but I didn't see too many Valentine's Day cards. The shop was a lot more colorful than Crush & Touch as Shorthand organized pens and pencils by color. They also sell really neat hand drawn Highland Park and Eagle Rock maps. The shop also sells various colors of ribbon per yard and gift wrap. Each color of ribbon has a slightly different price. I actually got a red tight weave ribbon for $1.75 per yard and the staff even gave me a slightly extra length. [Gift Wrap Service]: Customers can purchase gifts in store or bring them in from elsewhere. In general, regular (one sheet) = $8, large (two sheets) = $14, and extra large (three sheets+) = $20+. [Conclusion]: A really cute stationery shop with all the supplies for gift wrapping.

Initial Impression: I have heard of Lumee before due to its previous locations, but I never had the chance to visit. I just so happened to have extra time in Pasadena so couldn't resist stopping in. This shop in Arcade Lane opened recently and it is situated in a cozy area near Urth Cafe. It is bright, colorful, and hard to miss. The perfect place to draw in lovers of all things Kawaii. Service: the shops man is the absolute sweetest and not only took time to explain the concept of the shop, but he also showed all the artwork and some of his own work! The Mahjong bag is so impressive! Lumee offers tufting for carpets and supplies the tools. They also offer decoden cases, trinkets, hair clips, bags, and more! Locations have a variety of different experiences so check ahead! Overall: I was able to make a trinket for around $8! It can also be upgraded to a magnet and you can walk-in if you want to! They offer group experiences as well, and I think it would be cute for a date too. I really can't want to go again!

We each found images of what we wanted to create online and were able to trace it onto the canvas. Since it was our first time, we all opted for the small canvas but in retrospect, maybe the medium size would've been easier as the tufting gun is harder to maneuver in smaller sections. The staff was very helpful in providing instructions and staying close by as we worked on our projects. Once we were done, we left our mini rugs to be picked up another day since the staff would put the backing on for us and clean up any loose ends and such. Definitely looking forward to coming back and making an even bigger piece!
