Kristen's in depth explanation + demonstration was easy to follow as a beginner, but the instructors frequently made their rounds to work with everyone individually, giving advice and feedback. Despite the class session only being 2 hrs, I felt like I was able to focus on improving basic skills and learning new techniques. Even if you don't have any interest in pottery, I HIGHLY recommend taking a class regardless. The space is welcoming, and it was a great (and fun) way to release stress creatively :) looking forward to how my pieces come out!

It was a full class and the instructor patiently explained each step. Before you sign up, make sure to read the description carefully. There are hand-building classes and wheel throwing classes. Hand-building is hand molding and you don't work with the wheel. My one-time matcha bowl and whisk holder making class was hand-building and we don't get to decorate or glaze it. Instead, you get to pick from a selection of paint colors and their team finish glazing and fire it for you. You also need to wait about 6 weeks for it to be ready for pick up, which is standard for community pottery places. I picked the white paint with specks which I regretted. The glaze came back with some uneven spots and a dark brown mark on the outside. Since the studio glazed it for us, I was a little disappointed with the final result. Pottery definitely tests your patience and perfectionism. Not sure if pottery is for me, but I might come back for their wheel throwing class.

I purchased two gift cards as birthday gifts for friends. At the time of purchase, the employee mentioned that they were using a new system, so I was understanding when the process seemed a little difficult. However, I only received one of the two gift cards by email. I contacted the business separately to request the missing gift card. Rather than simply re-sending it, I was repeatedly asked to check my junk/spam folder. While I understand that emails can occasionally be filtered, this became frustrating when the gift card still wasn't received. The owner eventually located the missing gift card several days later, but by then my friend's birthday had already passed. What should have been a simple gift purchase turned into a frustrating experience and ultimately ruined the timing of the gift. Unfortunately, the problems continued when I tried to redeem the gift card. There was another significant delay and difficulty getting it processed, and I ultimately had to contact the manager myself to get the issue resolved. What was most disappointing was not simply that mistakes happened, but how the situation was handled. I would have been much more understanding if there had been a simple apology and an effort to make the situation right. Instead, I felt like I was being given a hard time for an issue that was not caused by me. Businesses can have new systems and occasional mistakes--that's understandable. What matters is how those mistakes are handled with customers and lack of training with their employees. In this case, I felt the communication, follow-through, and customer service were lacking. I was a returning customer and would have continued supporting this business, but after these experiences, I unfortunately will not be returning or purchasing gift cards from here again.

At Craft Sierra Madre, I can pick up very high quality supplies quickly, chat with the owner, and look around at all of the other things people are doing. So much fun. Craft Sierra Madre also gives lots of classes that I normally would not take like knitting and embroidery. I'm going to take them now!!!! The class was scheduled for 2 hours. We ended an hour early with an end product that was a bit underwhelming. Our instructor was friendly enough, though never introduced herself nor took the time to ask the class (all 3 of us) our names. I wrote a letter to the owner and never got a response back. Highly unlikely I will return. Below is the letter I sent, including a few other underwhelming aspects to the class: "Hello! I took last evening's Macrame Weaving workshop. As I was driving back to Long Beach last evening after the class, I had some time to reflect on the workshop. I signed up for it to learn a new skill that I could potentially teach my students. (I've been an Art Teacher for many years). Unfortunately, I feel very disappointed with the class as a whole, as well as with our end result product. I believe the owner was there last evening; I regret not having pulled her aside to chat, though I wasn't quite clear on how I felt about the class until I was on my ride home. Our instructor was very friendly and I so appreciate the use of the high quality organic cotton cord. I also appreciated the hand out with the images of various knot styles. However, I don't even know what our instructor's name was. She never introduced herself or asked our names - there were only two other participants besides myself. We ended class nearly an hour early. This feels like a waste of project making and learning time. Either the project we did was too simple or our instructor wasn't thoroughly prepared. Her instruction was okay, though I don't think it is very helpful to physically do something for the student which she did a number of times. I believe it is more helpful to walk them through it verbally while allowing them to do it to experience the motions and acquire muscle memory. Craft is a great space! Our reservation was for 1:30 p.m., and we arrived a little early to make sure we could find the place without rushing. When we got there, no one was there. Since it's an appointment-only studio, I completely understood that they aren't open for walk-ins. I called the number on the door, and the person I spoke with confirmed they would be there shortly--about 20 minutes. Unfortunately, it ended up being closer to 30 minutes before someone arrived. By then, my girls were getting restless and were ready to leave. The only reason I waited it out was because I had read about the cancellation fee on their website and didn't want to risk being charged. Once we got inside, though, the experience completely turned around. The shop owner was incredibly patient with my girls, walking them through their decoden creations and making sure they had everything they needed. They genuinely had a great time, and it was a fun, creative activity that kept them engaged. There was one more hiccup at checkout--they initially charged us the additional sitting fee per person because they hadn't realized we had already booked an appointment. Thankfully, they caught the mistake afterward and promptly refunded the extra charge, which I appreciated. Would I come back? Maybe. The activity itself was a lot of fun, and the customer service during the crafting experience was warm and attentive. However, the delayed opening and the confusion over our reservation made the visit feel a little disorganized. If the appointment process were smoother, I'd be much more inclined to return.

This is isn't your grandma's arts and crafts show. Unless your grandma is a Pabst Blue Ribbon drinking, sailor swearing, Johnny Cash loving, type of dame. The genre or culture this show caters to could be described as rock, rockabilly, pin up, psychobilly, or alternative rock. There's a little bit of everything for ladies, there are lots of vendors (I'd say about 3-4 dozen) who were selling jewelry, hair bows, tshirts, art, and some dessert vendors. If you like zombies, skulls, pin ups, cherries, retro, glamour, then this is right up your alley. The event was great, my only complaint was how warm it was. There seemed to be little to no ventilation in that place (Santa Anita Race Track) . There was a DJ playing some awesome music and a stage all the way at the end where groups/bands were playing. There was a pin up contest and some contest give aways too. Overall the vibe was great! The vendors were all super friendly. We saw so many beautiful, lovely women and business owners. Everyone was complimenting one another and it was genuine. I'm a big fan of supporting handmade items and local artists.
