The service was great at Bleu Monkey and the food came out very quickly. I've gone to Bleu Monkey multiple times and never have had a problem. Is it the best sushi I've ever had? Probably not but for the Central New York it's pretty good. I ordered off the lunch menu and had a miso soup, salmon avocado roll, and cucumber avocado roll. My friend ordered a avoacdo salad. Everything was fresh and delicious. The location is convenient on Marshall Street, there just isn't a lot of parking. read more

Sophie and I were very excited to go to Bleu Monkey for dinner. We had a meeting at 6:45pm so we decided to go to dinner at 6pm. We figured that we would be enough time, however the service was not so good. It took about 25 minutes for us to get our food. Finally it arrived. We didn't get to our meeting until 7pm because of the hold up. The restaurant wasn't even that busy. The actual food was good, but when you have to rush, you don't get to fully enjoy your meal. read more

My first visit, it was on a Monday. I had the Chirashi and a large Sake. Service was very friendly with just the right amount of attentiveness. I enjoyed the food, portions were reasonable for the price. Certainly a college campus atmoshere. That's OK with me. I enjoyed my visit. The only con was the price of the large sake. This is my first time to eat Japanese food in US. Out of my expectation, the food is really delicious and the service here is also pretty good. We ordered crab roll and seafood noodles, and in my view，except for the sauce on the roll that tastes a little bit over sweet, everything fits my appetite, and even makes me feel at home. Great noodle bowls. I went last night and they ran out of the yam noodles so I decided to try the tofu noodles. It was fantastic! I was pleasantly surprised with the sort of crunchy texture the noodles had (my first thought of tofu noodles was basically soft tofu in noodle form, but that was not the case). Food is okay. Service is terrible. The waitress placed the order wrong and served us Bleu Monkey roll instead of bird roll that we asked for. We pointed it out as soon as the dish was placed on our table. And she asked unwillingly, "are you ok with this? Do you want me to replace the roll?" That was already so unprofessional. We didn't complain but said we want a replacement. But she was so unwilling to take the roll back and we didn't get why. The unhappy look on her face made me feel truly bad about insisting on replacing the order. So we accepted the wrong order. Not sure if we would come back. read more

Was in Syracuse for a business trip and came across this place. The sushi was great, we went there twice for lunch and got the lunch combos and various rolls. Tried the tuna avocado, spicy tuna, wolf roll, scorpion roll and more. We all had nothing but excellent things to say about them all. The ginger salad dressing was a little thinner than I was used to but had excellent flavor! The miso soup was one of the best we've had. On top of the food being excellent the lunch combo was a great deal at between $10 and $12 for two rolls and soup or salad. The service was also very fast and friendly. read more

I was in Syracuse for a few days and was told this was a great sushi restaurant. Au contraire. My waitress was very friendly, but couldn't answer basic questions (do you have salmon skin?) and didn't think to ask what the price was when she found out they did have it (she told me she thought it would be no more than $5, consistent with other rolls on the menu). Because the place was getting busy, it took some time for all this back and forth and to place my order. I got the salmon skin and a couple nigiri sushis. The waitress came back at some point to tell me the salmon skin roll would be $6.50 -- I said okay because it's one of my favorites. The nigiri sushi was fine -- what you'd find in any fast food restaurant (I ordered inari and ikura). The salmon skin looked strange, as if the salmon skin had been grated or chopped into tiny tiny pieces. It tasted like sawdust and was inedible. I ate one piece and left the rest. When the waitress brought my bill and saw I'd left the roll, I told her that it did not taste right. She said nothing but cheerfully brought my bill as if everything had been great. I was charged full price for the salmon skin. As I was leaving, I saw one of the chefs come over to my table to look at my plate with the roll on it. They saw me leaving but no one came over to say anything. Maybe it's expecting too much, but I spent $20 for 4 pieces of sushi with no apology, no offer to replace the roll with something else, and no offer of a reduction of the bill. I left hungry with no time (or much money) to buy another dinner. read more

Ordered delivery tonkotsu noodle bowl. Disappointed. The serving size is small compared to other places like Oishi Sushi or Asahi and its at the same price and is not served with an egg. Additionally the ramen noodles were terrible quality. They are definitely not fresh and taste like they came from a cup noodles container. Their delivery fee is a dollar or free vs 3 dollars that Bleu Monkey charges to drive 2 streets away where I work. Next time will order elsewhere. read more

I ordered dinner from here out of convenience and definitely paid the price. The spring rolls were bland but decent, but the vegetable curry was a total disaster. Less of a curry and more of a cumin gravy, I couldn't finish my portion, despite how hungry I was. Most disappointing, the miso soup with vegetable dumpling which I was really looking forward to tasted like a can of campbells chicken noodle soup. It was greasy and had the flavor of chicken fat in addition to extremely suspicious meat like chunks inside of the dumpling. As a vegetarian of 10 years, I was disgusted. Worst of all, when calling the restaurant to see what was going on, the employee who answered was incredibly rude, dismissing all of our concerns without explanation. It took my husband actually going there with the soup to show them what we were talking out. The owner was very kind and took time to assure him it was in fact vegetarian. This made me feel a bit better that I wasn't served meat, but the food was so unpleasant and the service so poor, I definitely will not be returning. read more

Guided by the suggestion of some friends who went to the restaurant, I decided to do a delivery. I ordered a sashimi dinner (which, as it is said in the website menu, consists in 12 pieces of sashimi + rice + salad), paid an enormous price (12 pieces of sashimi + mochi ice cream = 38 $) and have been delivered just the fish WITHOUT NEITHER THE RICE NOR THE SALAD THAT I PAID FOR. Thinking there had been some kind of mistake, I immediately called back the restaurant kindly suggesting them that my order had some error because a part of my order was missing. In response to my speech, the waiter at the phone told me that there was no mistake, that it had been a while since the moment they decided to eliminate rice and salad off this plate and they still had to figure out a change in the order-online menu. Astonished by this, I promised that I would have made an awful advertising of that place. I have tried this place several times hoping that I just needed to find the right thing to order. Most recently I ordered noodles with a poached egg, which is an item on the menu. Poached eggs are soft with a runny yolk, and pure heaven on noodles. I was served a hard boiled egg. That was not what I ordered, so I immediately sent it back. My sever told me even though it says poached eggs on the menu, all their eggs are hard boiled. She said they didn't have poached eggs. I am not sure what she meant by this--perhaps they get their eggs from somewhere precooked? She asked if I would like something else. I declined since poached eggs weren't an option. Nonetheless they still charged me for this item because they said nothing was wrong with it, it just wasn't to my liking. I wish they had put more energy into giving me what I ordered rather than quibbling with me about paying for something else. read more

My friend and I had a great experience, as I have always had. Bleu Monkey is a great place to stop between classes. The restaurant was extremely busy around 12:30 on a Tuesday afternoon, however our service was great and our food came out in a very timely manner. I was impressed. Although the sushi is a little pricey for a college student, the atmosphere and service makes up for it. I have had experiences here though that were subpar compared to my most recent experience. Sometimes the service is unnecessarily slow when it is not very crowded. I have had my struggles with waiters and waitresses. They have also implemented a new payment system, where the waiter brings an iPad to the table and you complete your purchase yourself. I like the new method and it saved us a lot of time. They also accept OCMP which is great for Syracuse University students. The bathrooms are also single stall bathrooms with a sink outside the stall so people can access the sink while someone is using the restroom if they wish to just wash their hands. I have always loved the sushi here and go back and forth between take-out and sitting down at the restaurant. Both have always served my taste buds, but sitting down is a guarantee you will see someone you know! read more
