Would be 4-5 stars based on technical knowledge and pleasant nature of the technician. He did a great job! My issue was with the 600% markup on a $30 relief valve for the boiler. They thankfully reduced the price after I asked for the part number and inquired why they were charging me so much for a simple valve. They have a good reputation in the community, so I was a little disappointed... Follow up: I was called by Blakeslee and Sons to address my concerns regarding pricing. It was explained that the mark-up is required to cover costs of certified technicians, overhead, etc. which makes a little more sense when explained. Maybe a better explanation of invoice and cost structure will help alleviate "sticker shock" in the future. Changed to 4 stars after the call back. read more

This business disappointed us several times. We are done with Blakeskee and Sons. Our air conditioning unit stopped working on a 90d day. I requested an emergency repair as I have a heat related hives condition. We scheduled a repair for that day. Not only did Blakeslee NOT show up, they never called. read more

I had them do a annual furnace inspection, they told me both the primary and secondary heat exchanges were shot, and that the furnace needed to be replaced. They left me a quote for a new furnace, and were really pushing me to agree to get the new furnance installed. I told them I was going to shop around. I called another HVAC vendor for a quote, and in talking to them, told them what Blakeslee had found. They asked if the technician condemned my furnace (which they didn't do...) I agreed to have his technician come out and check out my furnace. The tech tore my furnace apart and was inside looking for any signs of a cracked heat exchanger. He found nothing and said the furnace was perfectly safe. The only problem was a partially clogged drain line. So, Blakeslee did not perform the furnace tune up I paid for, they tried to claim my furnace was bad and that I needed a new unit. I will never use their services again, and I will recommend against using them to anyone I know... read more

We have owned many homes, used many home service companies throughout the years, and ALL pale in comparison to this honest & professional company. We purchased the yearly service package, and the two servicemen that have come out (Andrew & Kevin) have created a phenomenal appreciation for this company and its services. Andrew solved a hot water circulation issue for us by realizing some inspector or ? had turned OFF the valve coming out of the water heater that allowed the hot water to circulate throughout the house enabling US to feel hot water after only 6 Seconds as opposed to 6 to 8 MINUTES before Andrew found this closed valve!! And today, Kevin helped balance the heat in our home, and replaced a humidifier screen that was falling apart and ineffective. The humidity will finally be more comfortable in our newly purchased home.. not so dry anymore. GREAT JOB guys. They call the day before to remind you of the appointment, as well as when they are about to arrive. My wife and I would give this company HIGHER than 5 stars if we could!!! read more

The customer service is excellent. Everyone is nice. But beware this company doesn't charge an hourly rate. THEY USE FLAT RATES and the rates are EXPENSIVE! Yes they did a good job, and the staff is nice......But does anybody want to pay DOUBLE compared to what other reliable area providers charge? For a job at my home that took one hour: 450$. The part: 100$. The service charge: 88$. I spoke with the owner of Blakeslee and he said "I don't know what to tell you." So I know I won't be throwing my money away with Blakeslee & Son in the future. I know repairs are expensive. But I can't see the logic of using services from a company with inflated flat rates when there are companies that charge in measured and transparent ways. read more

If only there were a choice of ZERO stars. $85 just to show up and diagnose my problem. Then 2 weeks of delays with parts only to be told they couldn't get the parts so I had to do a full replacement. Since I had the time I called two other plumbers and found their prices to be HALF of what Blakeslee wanted. I called them back and they were unwilling to discuss their pricing, negotiate or refund the $85 service call for which they were there 5 minutes and did NOTHING. I gave them a chance to make things right and they chose not to which is why I'm writing this review. Stay away from this place! read more

Not only does the company support the dog park in town, but his spouse works at a veterinarian's office. I highly recommend this business to all people in the nearby area. read more

EPIC RIPOFF. $176 to replace two AA batteries in a digital thermostat for a very senior citizen. Ten minutes, two batteries. Obviously they had to be charging for the long trip, eight blocks there and back. Works out to $348 an hour for labor (?) and transportation plus $4 for the batteries. They claimed it was a 'repair'. Definition: to fix or mend something suffering from damage or fault. The thermostat was fine, just needed batteries. The tech literally popped off the thermostat housing and replaced the batteries and charged $176. Oh, I guess he also pushed the temp button to make sure the furnace was cycling. Twice. That's what I was told by the owner. The guy also said the invoice showed the service call took just under 30 minutes. Hmmm. Five minutes here, ten minutes to replace the batteries and push the button twice, five minutes to write the invoice and five minutes to drive back. Okay. I'll give him that. Still a ripoff. This company should be embarrassed to admit they do business like this. Please check out the reviews the are not 'recommended'. There are 16 of them and one third of them are one star reviews. I don't know why Yelp doesn't recommend them as they are very relevant to your wallet. read more

Had Blakeskee & Son install a new high efficiency furnace in 2014. Have had them back a number of times for service calls since (shaking blower motors, plugged evaporator drains) and most recently on 9/5/2018 to replace the blower fan. Heat worked before the fan was replaced. Can't believe that I paid for a new furnace and have issues with it. Turned on the heat this morning and got nothing. Called in and was told that there would be an overtime service charge to come out today. Great way to do business! Create an issue and then charge extra to fix it because it is not convenient for them. I wish I had never crossed paths with these guys. I would advise everyone to use someone else. read more

We continued to use this company bc we thought we could trust them. My father in law was here last week when I was out of town and changed humidified pad without me knowing. When the guy came to do my annual tune up days later, he asked me if I wanted him to change my humidifier pad. I said sure - not knowing. My FIL is back again today and asked who switched humidified to summer. Turns out the tech totally ripped me off AND changed be setting. I'm so sad because I thought I could trust these guys (only woman in our house). Going to be calling them in the AM but I'm just so sad - seems you can't trust anyone!!! :( read more

We had a leak underneath the sink and didn't know whether it was behind the wall, or even how to diagnose. I called Blakeslee after reading on FB that they are providing the water for the new Rockford Dog Park and I was glad I did. Receiptionist was exceptionally nice and helpful and was able to arrange for someone to come out the next day within a 2-hour window. She called to confirm the appointment when he was on his way, and he arrived right on time. He reviewed their work procedures and fee policy up front (they have a base trip fee that covers the visit and analysis, then they explain what the issue is and the estimated cost and get approval before proceeding). He was able to not only quickly determine the source of the leak and fix it (turned out to be minor, whew!) but also to fix the slow drain on that sink, and for a tub in another room, and to inspect a very aging water softner with me. He discussed and explained various issues in detail regarding the softner and our plumbing...obviously very experienced and knowledgable. He provided an estimate on a new softner with no 'hard sell'...just facts and information that would help us decide how to proceed. We definitely will be contacting Blakeslee for our plumbing needs going forward. Update: January 2012: Blakeslee & Sons installed a new water heater, new water softner and filter, replaced the well pressure tank, and fixed several plumbing pipes due to aging. I never thought I'd say that going through all that would be enjoyable, but it was! After watching home shows like 'Holmes on Homes' for years, and with this being our first home, we were a bit nervous about contractors and wanted to make sure that we were 'informed homeowners' so we asked lots of questions. Throughout the process, Blakeslee & Sons, and especially Andrew, were wonderful. Every question was completely answered professionally with obvious knowledge,experience, and honesty. (If they didn't know, they would find out and get back to us. If a price seemed high, they explained why it was that way.) During the visit for the estimate, Andrew fully explained our options, what his recommendations would be and why. During installation he again explained what was being done, showed us how the systems worked and should be maintained, labeled everything, and answered every nit-picky question I could think of. The work was done in a completely professional manner, and Andrew followed up a week later to ensure that everything was completed to our satisfaction. Andrew seems to be one of those rare people who is both very proficient in his trade and can communicate well with homeowners so it became both a well-done upgrade and a learning process for us. We bought our furnace and air conditioner through this company and when it came time to have it serviced we called them. To have a $20 part replaced they charged us a $90 tune up which consisted of ten minutes of looking and hosing off the unit, and $179 to replace the part which took another ten minutes. When I called to complain about being misquoted and dissatisfied with the service the receptionist was nice but I was told there was nothing they could do. Overpriced and under-impressed! read more

i was very disappointed with the service i received from Blakeslee and Son, Inc. on my furnace. i had them out to perform a tune up on my furnace and the tech had no idea what he was doing. My furnace is 18 years old and i planned on replacing it anyway so i paid the 79.00 for the tune up to get Blakeslee out of my home and called another heating and cooling company and purchased a new furnace from them. I will never call them again!!! read more
