Just had my first eye examination at Blackstone Valley Eye Care. I was very impressed with the center, the staff, the technology and their wide selections of eyewear. The staff there were all very friendly and professional. I was also really impress of how modern the center is, for example; receiving an email and text to remind you of your appointment. This place had some really advanced and sophisticated instrument for eye exam. It has been a couple of year since I had an eye exam and I did not realize how advance the instruments are now. Dr. Kenyon was a true professional. He gave me the most thorough eye examination I have ever had. He really took the time to explain everything to me, which really help put all my worries about any issues with my eyes at ease. He even help me pick out my new pair of glass. One of the best experiences I've had at an eye care center! I've been a long wearer of glasses, previous offices would give me slack for having frequent repairs/replaces for myself or my 2 of 3 children who wear glasses. BVEC has been so easy to work with from scheduling appointments, insurance coverage, selection of frames and payment plans when I needed it. I often recommend this office to my own patients! Yesterday I brought my daughter for her first ever eye exam and was treated extremely rudely by the receptionist who explained to me that I must be in the wrong place because there is a strip club down the street. she then proceeded to refuse to take my identification and also to not find the appointment I made a week prior when I visited with my son. The receptionist continued to talk and gossip while I was in the exam room loudly so that the entire staff and other patients were able to hear. She began recruiting other patients to her side during the conversation where she continued to refuse to find my appointment or insurance. Another staff member stepped in to help. However by that time it was too late. The receptionist was still discussing the matter loudly with anyone and everyone who would listen when my children and I exited the first portion of the exam. One of the office staff stated that they did it because I am a stripper , which I am not. To her credit, Dr. Nano did ask them to stop, however the fact remains that the entire experience was humiliating, degrading, and upsetting to myself children. I sincerely hope that you and your team make corrections to your level of professionalism. your treatment of me and my family was disgusting and I wouldn't recommend you or your practice to anyone. Based on the treatment I received I can only imagine the treatment that you use to others you believe to be of lower status in the community than yourselves. This was truly the most awful experience I have ever had at a doctors office that I can remember. read more

Called to make an appointment and was given a time the next day. As a new patient I arrived 15 minutes early to fill out any paperwork. Filled out the paperwork and was given a beeper so I could wait in my car. At this point I was impressed. 35 minutes past my scheduled appointment, after watching others in the parking lot who had arrived after me head in, I went back inside and they had misplaced my paperwork and the woman I spoke with had no idea I was even there. If it wasn't for the beeper in my hand I don't think she would have believed me. She asked if I wanted to reschedule but my time is much too valuable to risk this happening again so I declined. read more

I have been to a handful of eye doctors in the 30+ years of wearing glasses. The experience I had at this office far exceeds all of the past offices put together. I was having trouble reading with my old prescription and was getting brushed off multiple times by my previous eye doctor. I wanted a second opinion and this office is close to my home. The minute you walk in, you can tell this place is run like a well oiled machine. Now, I have been having eye exams since I was a teenager and I have never had one so thorough. I was given a new prescription with progressive lens and I can finally see correctly after 3 years of struggling. It's like a veil has been lifted! I can not speak enough about Dr. Kenyon and his staff at BVEC. They are courteous, professional, and up and coming as far as technology. What really impresses me about Dr. Kenyon's practice is that he invests in the newest technology, for both testing and appointments. For example, I made an appointment about a month ago, and a few days before started to get a text message reminding me of the appointment, and asking if I wanted to confirm. Most medical doctors don't even offer this service. Also, when my glasses are done, I will be getting a text and an email as well. For someone who doesn't like to pick up the phone (I'm usually at work or commuting) this is a great service. They work very well with insurances, and because of the area they're in, are very familiar with certain employers and what their policies are. This is really helpful for me, when trying to decide what type of lenses and frames to get. That leads me to my next point. You want a particular frame? They will order it. I've been rocking RayBan's Clubmasters for several years, and every time they will order me the color I want, no questions asked. Usually I would have to pull teeth to get this done at other offices. While the eye care is still quality, dealing with the front office is a nightmare. You can never get through to talk to someone, the voicemail box is full, and when you do get through to leave a message, they never call back. Trying to get someone to adjust your new glasses is also a chore. I can't believe Dr. Kenyon allows the business to operate like this. We have been with him since day one. We go back to Dr. Sheehan in the 80's. After about 40 years, we will be looking for another eye doctor. read more

Best I care office ever! The doctors are super friendly and knowledgeable. The staff is always pleasant, very welcoming, and they do a great job finding frames that look great. The best part is that they don't make you wait for appointments! I scratched my cornea and realized it a few hours before leaving for vacation. They were able to see me 20 minutes after I called!! My husband also had a positive experience with quick appointments. Dr Odle really took the time to check my eye for foreign particles and flushed and cleaned my eye very well to avoid infection. She also gave me two types of drops with very clear and concise directions on how to use them. This office is also beautiful and clean inside. I actually love going to the eye doctor now! :) *I wrote this review while waiting for the appointment to finish up. I really like Dr. Straube but their new office policy restricts booking multiple appointments. I am an old customer. Perhaps they should look at my history to see my record before applying a new rule to an old customer. UPDATE: The Office Manager called to resolve the issue and they are going to allow me to book a multiple appointment because of my history with them, which is the only point I was originally trying to make. Do some research about the customer on the other end first. read more

The office manager and woman I spoke to is not understanding and will charge you for a missed appointment even when you make sure you call twice. They even made an appointment for MY CHILD and then called and canceled it themselves. Predatory behavior. I'm very disappointed as I recommend this place to so many people. DO BETTER! read more

My first appointment was a pleasant experience as I had previously gone to Atlantic Eye Care and was treated horribly - I mean the dr literally yelled at me for asking if they work with an online vendor who has them listed on their site. Totally different experience here EVERYONE was wonderful, particularly the Dr who explained everything to me. Anyway I didn't wear my previous glasses as they gave me a headache and didn't really help me to be able to read... I went to Blackstone they did more modern and thorough testing, told me my previous diagnosis and prescription were wrong. Helped me pick reasonably priced frames that I love and I now actually wear. Today I broke the frame on my glasses and remembered the tech (Renee) who adjusted them for me saying there was a warranty but I thought I had exceeded it. I called to find out for sure and sure enough the girl who answered the phone (Candy) said come by we will look at them and get another pair made in 5-7 days and see if we can repair current so they are useful until then. I would never go anywhere else and always refer anyone I meet who mentions their eyes, glasses or contacts to Blackstone... they are the best read more

I saw Dr. Straube for my yearly eye exam and found her to be extremely caring and professional. As someone with very bad vision I often dread my eye exams because getting an inaccurate result can mean months of discomfort. Dr. Straube was very patient and worked with me to make sure I left with a prescription I was comfortable with, but that wasn't too strong for my eyes, and assured me I could always come back in if I was having difficulties. She goes out of her way to make the exam as comfortable as possible and answered all of my questions. Due to a recent eye infection, Dr. Straube suggested I switch to daily contacts. She gave me trials for several different brands at different price points so I could try them at home for a few days before buying a year's supply. I ended up buying a new pair of frames as well and found both Dr. Straube and the staff to be helpful in making a selection. Blackstone Valley recently moved to a new office and the space is very large and very nice, but be sure to type in the new address to your GPS as mine brought me to the old office when I just searched for the name. Blackstone Valley is a bit of out of the way for me, but I'll continue to see Dr. Straube for my eye care as it's been a long time since I felt a doctor respected my concerns and opinions this much and made me feel like a part of my medical team. read more

If you enjoy high pressure sales for expensive daily disposable contact lens and an incompetent scheduling staff then this place is for you. Sarcasm aside, my appointment got cancelled because of covid which I can't hold against this place. But what I can hold against them is me showing up for my appointment which I rescheduled because I was running out of contact and I show up and I was told I had no appointment. Furthmore my phone number was missing from the system. To which I said impossible because you had called me about this appointment a month ago. To which they said they have a policy of they call and someone says this is the wrong number then wipe it from the system so maybe they failed the wrong never and removed the correct number from the system but she also noted they have my wife's number.. Why they never chose to call my wife's number or use the email they have on file for me remains a mystery. Also as I was leaving they were apologizing to another guy that they can't find his contact order and asked if maybe his wife had already picked it up.... read more

I am actually appalled at the lack of service here today. I drove my younger sister here, ten minutes early for a 3:30 pm appointment and we sat there until five minutes til 4pm and still had not been called in, while we watched other come streaming in and being taken in right away. I walked up to tell the ladies sitting behind the desk as much and they acted all confused as though they had not made eye contact with me several times while we waited and told me to "give her a sec", to do what I'm not exactly sure. But it was clear my sister was not going to get the appointment she scheduled today. We left another five minutes later, and we will not be going back when there are plenty of eye care facilities in RI that are prompt and more empathetic in their services. This is a first for both of us. So disappointed and would never recommend this place to anyone! read more
