Mediocre bar food and 'beers' where the ingredients are from a Disney film i.e.; "bubblegum, lemon and clove". Kudos to the wait staff as they did the best with what they have. The staff that works here are top notch. We interacted with about 5 different people and they were so friendly and helpful. When you come in, you order at the bar. The person was so friendly and shared her recommendations. We ended up ordering the margarita pizza and the salad with tomatoes and burrata. Unfortunately the pizza was super salty and we found salt crystals on it that we tried to pick off. When we let the staff know, they happily remade it for us and offered the beer queso appetizer with homemade chips. Unfortunately the pizza was still pretty salty after it was made again. Usually margarita pizzas are bright and fresh with the herbs but this felt really heavy and salty. I think the cheese used was very salty. And the extra salt crystals put it even more over the top with the saltiness. The beer queso's homemade chips were delicious and wasn't very salty, but the queso was quite salty. The star was the tomato burrata salad with the delicious bread and fresh basil. It was still a bit on the saltier side though. But the fresh herbs and tomatoes balanced it out a bit. I'd still prefer it less salty. We wanted to love it all. Loved the decor and ambiance of the restaurant and their staff. Wish the food was less salty though. But if you enjoy your food extra salty, then you might enjoy Blackstar. read more

You really can't go wrong ordering. We went classic with the pesto pizza and were surprisingly happy with it. Tasted great, got enough fill without feeling bloated I ate too much feeling. It really was a great pizza! The brussels were another must. We had a fairly large group and we have zero issues. We did order at the bar, which I actually thought was better. Was on a disastrous camping trip with my roommate Jocko. I won't tell you what happened, but it turned out that Jocko did not know how to fish and claimed that the starlight was keeping him up at night. Splendid. After a few days of h-e-double-hockey-sticks, we staggered into Whitefish with great thirsts and ravenous appetites. Blackstar Brewery fit the bill! I had two burgers (smashburgers) and the barkeep recommended some quality IPAs and kept 'em coming. Jocko had some sort of pizza. I don't know what it was, but he loved it. We found an old NWA album (a first-pressing; this thing was vintage) in the wilderness about half an hour outside of Whitefish--it was just sitting there under a pine tree, half way up a mountain--and we had such a good time that we donated it to Blackstar Brewery! When we looked the album up and learned that it was worth $435, we actually went back and asked for it back. Yeah . . . not a proud moment . . . but they were real cool about it. Funny thing is that at the airport, Jocko took the album and said he had to "run to the restroom, be back in a jiffy," and I ain't seen him since. He's probably out there celebrating with the money he made off the album. In spite of that, I have good memories of this place and will return alone as soon as I can. read more

Do not go here! Don't even bother if you are hungry. We went in as a family of 5. Three of us got our food, while there was no explanation as to where the other two meals were. Once they finished thier meals, we made multiple attempts at flagging down a server and were finally told the other two remaining dishes were coming right up. That never happened and needless to say, 40 after they were done eating, we got up and left. Glad we did not pay first as they asked us too!!! Three stars for being new and I want to see this place succeed. But I want to rate it lower. The good: Beer is great! Staff is great! Views are great! Renovations are great! Food is uninspired. Decent for what it is, but I won't be back here to eat except to have a pretzel. Menu is tiny. Portions are small. 3 sandwiches or average pizza...that's your choice...that's it. It shows lack of effort and it's just plain boring. To top it off, you have to order at the bar. There are only food runners...no servers...I'm hoping this is because of staffing shortages. But to have sit down tables in a cool atmosphere and no servers is just weird. For such a cool location, amazing views, and great beer...this food should be 1000 times better with a lot more options. Came here on a Saturday night with 3 friends. This was the first time for all of us. We found a table on the roof top and ordered the queso for an app. It was delicious and the chips were fresh and perfectly salted. I had the smash burger and asked for no onions. When they delivered it to the table, they said, "smash burger with no onions", but there were so many caramelized onion pieces The burger was good, otherwise. 3 of us had fries as sides and they were crispy and delicious. My friend had the falafel burger and said it was super flavorful. Another friend had a grilled chicken sandwich with bbq sauce and said she liked it. The last friend had a salad with kale, fried chicken, cucumbers, and a few other toppings I can't recall. We were waiting over 10-15 minutes after the rest of the table received their food for the salad to show. She gave up and walked down to the bar to find out what happened. On the way, she saw the server trying to give her salad to another table. They accidentally put the wrong table number in the system. The decor was fun and bright. They have a lot of seating options, both casual and more "formal" tables. The bathroom wasn't great. There was toilet paper all over the floor and the soap dispenser was broken. They had a jug of soap on the counter that you had to pour from. Minus the minor ordering errors and the bathroom, I would recommend coming here! Especially at sunset. read more

The house-cut fries have the potential to be good, but they missed something in the frying process and instead of being soft and pillows, the fries were chewy.
