Called this morning and got the ok when my girl got there they say even though I'd paid for 10 that she'd have to buy one to get the free bag! They are overpriced on everything but it made since if I was gonna get a free bag every 10! Great customer service and a wide selection of items! We picked up so many items for our young holland lop bunny including Timothy hay pellets, alfalfa cubes, salt lick, bristle bunches, chew sticks, Tiny Friends Farm carrot crunchers, and a toss & learn game! Rude would be a complement for the service I receive at this place. As a pet owner I always try to support local businesses but this place makes it hard. Each time I ask for help I feel like I Am bugging the employees. As a man the ladies working here make me very uncomfortable as they are confrontational and irritable. They are reluctant to let you use the rest room but do despite having a out of service sign on the door. I recently went in to buy two bags of dog food Victor and Canadaie as I used a blend for my dog and litter the employee tells me you can only buy one bag but you can ask someone to purchase the other bag for you! I took my dog to the Bellflower Dog park and saw a sign with the store's name. I think they sponsored the park . Anyway, if it wasn't for that sign, i wouldn't have known they sell dog items there . And I have been going here pretty much since then to get my dog food , they have a good selection of food at good prices. I usually don't need help when I come here so I cant speak for customer service. They have cool old school candies, homemade dog treats and a variety of dog canned food . They also carry dog shampoos , flea shampoo ,dog houses , harnesses , and many other items to care for your dog. If you join their loyalty program you get coupons for 5% off of various items . The only complaint I have is that they close at 6pm on weekdays . If you have a 9-5 , its hard to make it to store on time by the time your off work . Weekends I can understand the early closing time though . read more

Go inside and there were 3 brats acting up and screaming crying of course the mother pretending they were not her brats. Then we finally get some guy to help us so I thought, but he wanted to be the comic...not today buddy! I tell him I want 3 pounds of food and he says you want 30 pounds? Once again I say 3 pounds in perfect English, he the says some stupid sh!t? I then say it in Spanish thinking he did not know English? But BC's does sell baby ducks, geese, chicks, bunnies, Guinea pigs and all sorts of ferocious critters like that. They are wise in the ways of the law and what you can and can't own in your own backyard. I bought my first banty hen here and what a pleasure she was. She had feathers the color of henna so I named her "Henna" (original, huh?). I didn't know anything about chickens at the time but she made me learn fast. She was smart but she could be fooled. All it took to get her to start laying eggs was to place an oval-shaped rock in her nest. She immediately lay atop it and next thing you know, we were enjoying fresh, delicious, unpolluted eggs for breakfast. Home grown is the best and lifting Henna's fat ass from her nest to reveal fresh brown eggs was so precious...always brought a smile to my face. Henna only became a liability after she went rooting for bugs (as all chickens will do) and dug up three flats of Johnnie Jumpups I'd just planted the day before. I was dumb to think she wouldn't want to piss me off practicing what chickens naturally do. I was going to make a chicken cattiatore out of her but instead returned her alive and well and now I miss her. I want another Henna. BC's Adopt-a-Puppy program comes with a free bag 'o food and dog training, if desired. All you have to do is promise your puppy a good life...and you can do that, can't you? Blacksmith's Corner provides all you could need for your animals...feed, toys, cages, tags, whatever. They don't use expensive and environmentally unfriendly plastic packages but sell in bulk, with paper wrap and you won't have to keep going back to Home Depot or PetsMart every week for your little Animal Farm. But please, if you do go, be sure to bring your kids...they'll love this place no matter what Dorothy says...she's just a fear-monger and sees a conspiracy in everything. She even claims Kansans tornadoed themselves to invade Munchkin land! read more

Giving a 1-star solely because on how the rabbits are caged. As you can see in some of the photos posted by others, the rabbits are in cages with wire bottoms and nothing between them and the wire is put there to protect them. Imagine walking, sitting or lying all day on a wire grate, it's not comfy and will cause problems. Don't see why they can't put a grass mat or small piece of wood down to protect the rabbits - they sell mats for that purpose for pet owners! Also, rabbits eat their own feces/poop, they need to do it so they can capture the nutrients they didn't absorb the first time, so if they are in cages with wire bottoms, the poop falls though - great for cleaning cages, but not healthy for the rabbit! The rabbits are in cages with huge bowls of rabbit pellets, any reputable website (ASPCA, House Bunny Society, etc.) and most vets (but not all are educated on this sadly) will tell you that rabbits eat mostly *hay* and need access to it all day long! Pellets are not a sustainable diet! I asked the man who sells feed by the pound in the back about the hay and he said they feed it to them during the day, but there's a difference between "feeding" them and providing it when they need it. Hay keeps rabbits healthy and keeps their teeth from growing too long and a whole list of other reasons. Yes, the cages were clean, for the birds and other animals too, yes, there was a strong animal waste smell, but we only noticed it near the trash so we didn't think that was major. There are lots of supplies but after we saw the rabbits we left pretty fast. Even though we drove out from Inglewood, we didn't buy anything that day - and we needed hay and a new rabbit cage to replace a loaner one we've had for a while, about $150 in supplies - we didn't want to support a store that treated its animals like that. This isn't slander or being animal-activist hyper, it's just common sense. Just because many people - even me when I was a child - treat rabbits that way, it doesn't mean it's the right thing to do now given the abundance of information out there on proper rabbit care. read more

This place has a VERY impressive selection of pet supplies and feeds, on par with the corporate places, but with a country-store atmosphere. You can't miss it, it is a huge red building with a giant white rabbit on the roof. Whether you want dog leashes, chew toys, bowls, medicines, or feed, the selection is mind-boggling, and the prices are very competitive. The feed room is amazing; they have every kind of feed seed, including some that you've never heard of before. There are commercial blends, house blends, and individual seeds you can buy by the pound or by the 50# sack. I discovered that my chickens especially liked white safflower seeds. They have what looks to be the World's Biggest Rawhide Bone hanging from the ceiling too, just what you need if you have, oh I don't know, a pet veliciraptor! Like an Everlasting Gobstopper for Marmaduke. There are bunnies, mice and rats, guinea pigs, game birds like quail, and a selection of young and mature chickens and ducks. A couple of friendly banties wander around and may let you pet them. If you come on Saturday morning, you can also watch Aikido practice in the private dojo out back behind the chicken coop. I used to come here a lot, but the city of Bellflower threatened to JAIL me over my chickens, and the cats and possums polished off the last of my guinea pigs years ago. Now I really only come in for gifts for other peoples' pets, but it's nice to see it's still the same place. If you have pets, Blacksmith's Corner is worth checking out. read more

Blacksmiths is unique for their chicken supplies and live chicks. They have a nice selection of chicks, ones that will reliably lay and also ones that lay blue eggs - nice! I got chicks elsewhere with a 50/50 ration of roosters - not good. It looks like I've got some nice healthy pullets from them. I think what stands out for me is the bulk bins for feed. Not just chicken feed but other birds as well. I like the selection, the prices for the feed are good. They also have a nice selection of all things chicken not to mention pet supplies. The staff here are friendly and will help with any questions, even on the phone. I like that old fashioned mom & pop touch. read more

If you're one of those weirdos that for some reason have a pet duck or something, this is the place for you. They carry pet food, accessories, and also sell all types of birds and other critters. One of the great things about this place is that they carry the higher quality pet foods that Petco doesn't. I've bought Innova, Taste of the Wild, and Cannidae there. They give free samples of some of the food too. Also, there is a frequent buyer program for the Cannidae dog food, where you get the 16th bag free or something. The staff is always really friendly and when you're getting a big bag of dog food, someone will carry it to your car for you. Price-wise, they are fair. They always seem to have sales on things like the Furminator brush or other accessories. read more

I love this store! The prices are cheaper than normal pet stores and it's fun to just look around. My bf and I love coming here to look at all the animals and to get supplies for our pets. It's right next to a car dealership and the store itself looks like a barn with a huge white rabbit on top, you can't miss it!! You walk in and the cashier is to your right and to your left there are some care sheets that are very useful. Walk in a little bit more and you'll see a huge cage filled with little chicks!!! There are yellow, brown and spotted chicks and they're all adorable. Keep going straight up the little stairs and you'll see a lot of birds and rabbits. They have baby quail, finches, pigeons, love birds, and chicks that are halfway grown. For the rabbits I've seen mostly lionheads and they also have some guinea pigs! As you walk around the cages don't forget to look outside of the barn! The back area cages fully grown chickens that you can have for about 15$. There are also more rabbits and pets caged within the cage if that makes sense... My boyfriend and I are very interested in raising a chick or a duckling and the staff was very helpful in explaining. Their care sheet is also very helpful. They said the chicks are all vaccinated which is a plus! And they are only about $6-7! Sometimes they have a sale of buy two get one free! If you guys want a duckling, they said they are getting some around February! They apparently get sold out quick. Overall this store is an amazing place to get your new furry/ feathered friend and all the supplies they can possibly need at a great price!!!!! P.S. Came here to pick up a chicken. Over the course of 3 months we bought 4 chickens. Only one of them is still alive and it's not because we got hungry. The chickens all got sick, became lethargic, mucousy and died within two days. One of them was meatier and survived but we felt like terrible tenders of our flock. We went back today to pick up more feed and look into picking up another bird to bring our daily egg count up to two. Looking over their pen after having seen our birds get sick, it was clear that there were several mucousy chickens (one was blowing snot bubbles out its beak - bad sign) and at least one with a swollen eye (indicative of infection). We thought the birds had gotten sick from sparrows in our yard but it seems like we may have bought them sick. We decided against getting another bird from here lest it re-infect our healthy chicken (though she should have immunity now). The staff is friendly, there's a variety of pet products and a good selection of feeds (though nothing organic), but I would caution against buying chickens here. read more

I love this place, I recently disccovered it. They have a lot of the best name brand foods for domestic animals, such as Merrick, before grain, canidae, natures variety. Its wonderful! Its also eye candy for the animal lover. They have ducklings, chicks, and even a goat! The people that work there arent the nicest though, you ask for information on a certain product, and it seems like you are bothering them, or wasting their precious time. Either way, its a good store, and once you get used to the place, the only communication you have to do with the staff is the checking out. read more

I haven't been here in a while. I went last week to buy my sister's guinea pig some supplies and food. They had a good variety. And the prices are very reasonable. I ended getting my dog some treats too. I had a worker help me choose treats and packed my guinea pig pallets. My total was 16.65$ I was so impressed. My dogs loved the treats and my sister guinea pig who can be picky loves the pallets. I will definitely for back and not be a stranger. read more

Went to a few places looking for Female baby chick, and this was the only place that gave me a 90% chance that they are female. I was re-assured when another customer in the store told me that he had bought chicks here before (8 I think) and he told me that they all turned out to be female. My baby chick were in really good shape when they got home and still are 1 week later!! Really healthy & happy!! Got 3 Rhode Island Reds & 1 Araucana. Want them as pets and for the organic fresh eggs. Highly Recommend!! read more

We went here on the suggestion from another pet store, in search of a Netherland Dwarf rabbit. They had plenty of bunnies to choose from, and they all seemed happy enough, as happy as you can be living in a pet store with chickens squawking outside! They had all the supplies we needed, and a good selection so we choose what fit our bunny best. Also, the staff is super friendly and helpful, especially with input about their own pet experiences. The only drawback is their hours; they close at 6pm. But the bonus is they are open 7 days a week! read more

Used to come here alot, but not much anymore. Used to come here for rats for my snakes, but they would charge me an arm and a leg. So i stopped getting rats from them, and would just get my crickets. Otherwise, good service. People seem pretty cool. most of them at least. They ahve alot of pet supplys and stuff. I've been a customer here for years now and should have done this review a while ago. Blacksmiths corner is really that neighborhood pet shop that everyone should be frequenting. I really got hooked when on a whim my partner and I decided to start raising chickens. But basically this is one of those shops you get a really personalized experience. The staff really gets to know you and they are extremely knowledgable. Louisa, Sam and Aaron are probably my favorites but the entire staff is super friendly and really bend over backwards in terms of customer service and sharing some insightful opinions on what your pets might need or help them out. read more

I feed my dogs Taste of the Wild (non-grain diet--much better than that Pedigree stuff which can cause blindness!) and luckily I found a place that carried it! When I was driving to go over, the area didn't look very safe/nice. Luckily, I was able to find the place--it wasn't hard to miss... big and red! Once I went in, I absolutely loved the place! It's quite large and they even have antlers for my dogs to get their chew on. However, they were pretty expensive (I noticed that a lot of their items were higher in price than what I was used to). The girl who was working was very helpful and accommodating. Overall I had a great experience and will definitely be going back. read more

I've been going here for years, and the people that work here have never been warm and fuzzy, but I still come here to support the liitle guy. Well not anymore. The main guy, I think he's the manager or owner, always has an arrogant attitude. He's not rude but he's not friendly, and he just seems like a bossy know it all. At the register, he asked me to show the codes to the items I'm buying so he can scan, so i did. I get it, they want the least amount of exposure. Now I put my credit card to pay and he asks for my ID. I tell him I have my picture on the card. He doesn't even look at it, and tells me he needs to see my Indentification, his company policy. Now I have to dig in my wallet for my ID. He has no consideration for my well being because now I'm putting my hands that have just touch things in his store, all on my wallet. I gave 1 extra star for the new girl that was helping me and the kid that loaded my stuff, at least they were nice. Everything I bought was $10 more expensive than Amazon. I hate to give Amazon my money, so I will look for another feed store to support. I rarely leave bad reviews, but enough is enough with the attitude with this store. ***and for your information store owner, I'm not required to show my ID per VISA.
