A nice restaurant with a large outdoor seating area up front. Small parking lot but there is some street parking around. We had a bit of a small wait and there's some benches out front to wait but not too much shade. Unfortunately, there's no way to go explore or sit in your car since they don't text you to notify you. They only come out the waiting area to call your name. Small draft list but they do have cocktails which it seemed like most people ordered. We had the Crispy Lump Crab Deviled Eggs which were very good but they do only come with 3 so quite pricey for the quantity. For our entrees, we ordered the Famous Plany X Crab Cake Sandwich and the Eastern Shore Bahn Mi. Both were very good and great flavors. The fries that came with the Crab cake sandwich were alright, they weren't crispy at all. My Bahn mi came with old bag chips which were good. Overral good food and decent service. Absolutely terrible experience at this restaurant tonight. It was very disappointing. We came in with high expectations since we enjoy farm to table restaurants along the Delmarva coast, and we left with a sour taste in our mouth. It's sad because it was definitely on our list of places to try and now we won't be going back. A few things to note: 1. When we came to the hostess booth to be seated, the hostess seemed very frantic and mistakenly thought my husband was "the kid who lives next door to her" which was odd, since my husband isn't a kid and clearly doesn't live near the coast, but she said it would be a 15 minute wait. It was a 25 minute wait and then we were finally seated at a small table near the door that slams shut and allowed flies to waft in every time the door was opened. 2. The air conditioning was absolutely not on. 3. Our waitress was extremely disorganized. She was a Latina girl with a ponytail and glasses and press on nails. Not sure of her name but her comments and lack of service are one of the main reasons we won't be back. She took way too long to come to the table, got frustrated when I asked her questions about the specialty cocktails as if she was a cashier at a 7-11 waiting for a customer fumbling for change in their purse, rather than a customer at a fine dining establishment that has a supposedly great reputation in Berlin. 4. During our first few minutes we noticed the table was extremely sticky and gross. Not sure if it was wiped prior to us sitting down. 5. The hostess (blonde, bun with some fly away layers in the back and glasses) kept coming in and complaining to the waitstaff about how she's "so done here tonight"... that was a little unsettling. It made me feel like the owner and management have a toxic reputation. 6. A couple was sat at a larger table next to us, immediately tended to because they were regulars, and the same waitress we had offered them salt and pepper with their appetizer and did not even offer us salt and pepper until the main courses came out. 7. When we were finished with our lentil salad (terribly disappointing since it was a garden salad with a few lentils thrown on top) I gave the waitress my utensils and requested new ones for my dinner entree. She rolled her eyes, went in the back and started complaining to the kitchen staff. My husband saw this happen when he went to use the bathroom. The kitchen staff and this waitress were going back and forth really loudly saying "I can't understand why someone wants a second set of utensils, her entree is a burger! I've never heard of someone wanting utensils with a burger"... well I guess this isn't a 5 star establishment but when a customer asks for a second set of utensils, even if my entree was a burger, I expect a clean set of utensils. What I don't expect is for the kitchen staff and waitress to discuss this in front of my husband as he's waiting to use the restroom, right in front of us. The same waitress with the ponytail and glasses and press on nails came back with the second set of utensils and slammed it at my table. It was unsettling again. My burger was also raw in the middle and the cheese and bun were burnt on the inside, and the fries were flavorless and brown and soggy. Lost my appetite throughout dinner. The only thing I liked was my strawberry sangria. Another thing this same Latina waitress did that was disgusting was when I saw her pick her nose with her press on nails and then proceed to yell "omg where are the limes I need a lime!!" And grab a lime slice with the same finger that was just up her nose, and shoved it on my husband's drink. He didn't touch his drink because we witnessed this. Mind you, we did not act funny at all toward anyone at the restaurant. We were friendly the entire time but the vibe was off due to the disgusting and disgruntled employees. Another thing that was really ghetto was when these three gentlemen that work there walked in and took over the bar and the waitstaff including our waitress were just entertaining them at the bar rather than serving customers who were dining. I really wanted to like this place but our ghetto waitress with lack of hygiene, manners, and common sense, and the disgruntled anxiety-driven hostess were a trip and the ambiance was definitely left to be desired. When we paid the check I even said to our waitress "thank you for the extra set of utensils". Beautiful decor that is super boho/Buddhist/hippie and cute, and a fun cocktail menu, but that's about all there is. To add insult to injury, they charge for bread for the table ($3 for a tiny hoagie roll you could get at Wawa, with some parsley and butter slapped on it) and the entire meal was $100 which included 1 appetizer shared, bread, 2 drinks total, 2 entrees total, we did not get dessert. Overpriced for the service we received and it sounds like it's a toxic work environment. read more

The only reason I won't give a full 5-star is because there are limited options fir those who don't eat dairy. I really wanted some of the signature dishes but they all had some type of cream or cheese. There are a couple of options for vegans but they're randomly paired with creamy grits for example which ya know, vegans can't eat lol. After a short wait and some well executed cocktails, we were seated, taking in the view of a busy dining room in mid service. Flank steak with some well controlled heat from hot honey and chill crisp was a recipe worth stealing. Another diner enjoyed a rockfish topped with enough crab meat for two entrées. I can give Blacksmith 5 stars they deserve! I Had lunch at Blacksmith today. Everything was perfect and they have definitely redeemed themselves since my visit in January. The 'famous house burger" on the toasted brioche bun, with house sauce, and homemade pickles rocked!! The fresh beach fries tasted of summer with a splash of malted vinegar. The service was outstanding. My friend got the cod fish tacos, they were out of rockfish, and kept saying how fresh the fish, cilantro, and crema tasted. The chicken salad was good, although personally it became a little one toned with the curried flavor halfway through. A wonderful experience from start to finish. Jeanette seated us and within 5 minutes we were great pals. She is so warm and personable, and readily picked up on my husbands accent ! This was our second visit to Blacksmith and probably our last. The server was excellent and very knowledgeable. The crab bisque was very good as were the deviled eggs. However it went downhill from there. My husband ordered the steak frites, which was little more than flank steak on a bed of French fries. Very disappointing. We were hoping for a quiet anniversary dinner but not long into our meal a mother and a 4 year old was seated right next to us in a mostly empty restaurant. That was followed by another family with several small children right on the other side of us. With this it was time for us to leave without coffee and dessert. Very disappointing. read more

The food was really good, we had different dishes, of which are worth recommending the Cheesesteak, the samosa and the Empanada. We also Tried local beers, we really liked the coffee milk stout. Prices were reasonable and in line with the food quality. The service was very nice and friendly, we were clearly the only tourists in the restaurant and the waitress made an extra effort to understand our accent :) Totally recommend and definitely coming back when visiting the area next summer. read more

First time here was for lunch. We enjoyed our food! We returned a second time for dinner and were very disappointed. The crab bisque soup was gray in color and so thick it wouldn't fall off the spoon. We ordered crab stuffed rock fish. The fish was over cooked and luke to stone cold in temperature. The asparagus underneath looked old. The braised shirt ribs with shrimp also was over cooked and luke warm. We ordered bread that you pay extra for and it was so salty with old tasting garlic seasoning couldn't eat it. Wait staff was good and apologetic for our food. The blacksmith restaurant in Berlin is one of our Ocean City area favorites. They have something for everyone ,including a very nice vegetarian menu. It's a great place to take visitors because everyone will have a nice selection of items to choose from, and they be very happy with their meal there. We usually order their vegetarian selections, but I've also had their crabcake, which is the best restaurant crabcake that I've had in Ocean City. I pretty much rate that crabcake up with the Captains Galley, which is my go to favorite carryout crabcake in Ocean City. My boyfriend and I were visiting Ocean City and read about checking out nearby Berlin while we were there (it was also on the way back from Assateague Island where we saw the horses!). Downtown Berlin is pretty small, but we were looking for a place with outdoor seating and a good menu. Blacksmith was perfect! It has its own parking lot and a very cute roofed outdoor deck. We waited for about 5 minutes since it was pretty popular (Saturday afternoon). It's clear that they take COVID and sanitation seriously, requiring masks and also have sanitizer for everyone to use upon entrance. And they take your temperature as well. The deck seemed relatively newly built (not sure if it was because of COVID), but it was chic with cute decor. The menu looked really tasty with more things that we wanted to try than we could physically eat. The specials were also enticing! They had a pretty unique list of drinks, and I loved that they had virgin mojitos. Perfect for a refreshing Saturday afternoon. I pegged this place as having traditional American food, but I loved seeing some Asian inspiration on the menu! We started with pork belly Killer Tacos as an appetizer (great price for these). Delicious! Then my boyfriend got the soft-shell crab burger special (never had anything like this before, so it was fun to try something new). I had to go for the Eastern Short banh-mi, which I loved. It was a large portion, so I had enough to bring home for the next day's lunch. My boyfriend had one more drink before going, and asked for a classic margarita. Tasted just like the perfect classic, but not in a classic glass. I died at the super tall glass that it came in. While camping in the Ocean City area we were looking for a "non touristy" kind of place so we consulted Yelp and came up with Blacksmith in Berlin. There wasn't much of a wait on a Wednesday evening. We sat outdoors on their spacious deck. Even though 75% indoor dining has been approved Blacksmith has decided to offer outdoor only. I assume that will change with the advent of colder weather. Not being real hungry I decided on getting the small plate version of their crab cakes. It was a single crab cake served with a sauce over a bed of salad greens. The cake was loaded with fresh sweet crab meat. Delicious. Prices are fair with a double hamburger going for $11. More innovative fare of course the price increases. We chatted with the hostess who was very nice as well as our waitress Megan. Variety of menu, great service, good atmosphere, delicious food, and a friendly vibe will have us return. read more

What a great find on an unassuming road in an unassuming part of the bay area. One things that a good seafood restaurant needs to be on the water, but if you are in the Bay Area, there is always water not too far a drive away. After seeing some good reviews on Yelp I brought the family here for Mother's Day! My family, being originally from "the South" really enjoy a good fried fish. We were very pleased with the MASSIVE fish tacos (you need a fork....they are no joke)! We also split the Cioppino, because, one must, and an assortment of oysters (grilled and raw), grilled oysters and a grilled white fish. Everything came out piping hot and wonderfully fresh. The place was packed (another good sign) but it also gets a bit loud and crowded so don't come her for an intimate conversation, service needs to be flagged down since they are very busy, and there are too few bathrooms.
