We tried this place for the first time this year and it seemed to be popular with tourists and locals. The pet-friendly courtyard had café lights, comfy seating, and '80s soft rock playing--I liked it. Our party agreed that the food was so-so. Vegetarian and gluten-free options like a burrito bowl were available. Loved that their self-serve water was out of a tap with the same handle mechanism as a beer tap! Shocked to find out a martini flight (totaling two drinks' worth of alcohol) was $38! I got one espresso martini instead and it was really a watered-down "latte martini"--sweeter and less coffee flavor than others I've had. Service was neither particularly good nor particularly bad, but overhearing the [manager? owner?] telling a fellow customer that he was "mad at" the bartender for being late to work that morning left a bad taste in my mouth. You shouldn't share your employees'/coworkers' shortcomings or mistakes with customers, and you shouldn't be "mad" at someone for being late to work (because it's not a personal affront, and because everyone is late sometimes). We felt that, while it had a nice atmosphere, we could find better food and drinks not far away. read more

One of America's best breweries! I've been to Burley several times and they always have something new on tap. The space has definitely evolved over the years and there is now more comfortable seating outside, and you can bring your dogs. There is also a little cocktail bar across the outdoor area but still within the brewery. Burley seems to have 20ish beers on tap including their famous JREAM sours. They also have lots of cans to go and can send you with crowlers/growlers if you want something on tap. I love that you can get flights with anywhere between 1-6 pours. Burley is what craft beer is all about - it's one of my favorite breweries in the country because of the inventive beers and great atmosphere. We stopped in at Burley Oak about two weeks ago. The beer is always good, no complaints there. My biggest complaint was the music. They had live music, one of my favorite things. It was so loud, we couldn't even have a conversation with each other. I was in sensory overload and needed to leave. A cute place! They have a back room with board games. When I came, I sent the kids back there to play the games. They have tasting flights of up to 6 per flight. It was a great way to sample all their beers. They had a lot of fruit beers and sours. They also have great smoothie type beers. Better than average beer selection. I love the fact that they do 5 oz pours. Yes, the flight card has six spaces on it, but you can get whatever you want. (Pro-tip, the boxes for flights hold three and six selection counts) The place is massive and has a huge beer garden outside. There is a sign for Uno Mas Taco, but I am not sure how that works since I was only here for the beer. The bar tender was super friendly, but a little hard to understand with his super gruffy voice. I cannot complain about that but the speed metal, or whatever he was playing, (and was it really on vinyl behind the bar?!?!) was a little too much. Otherwise, open to 11:00 PM in an otherwise sleepy town is awesome in itself. Add the great beer, 5 oz pours, friendly service, and you have a winner. read more

Absolutely love the beer that comes from here so I decided to visit the place itself while visiting OCMD. They have a little speakeasy to try their liquors which is a cool vibe. They also have a huge outdoor area, which is probably a great time, especially on weekends. The taproom is a chill vibe with a little merch area off to the right where there's togo beer as well. Overall the place is super clean and I love that there is a water station. There were two bartenders on and one was rather attentive but truthfully I felt that the locals have precedent over anyone else. The major issue I had here was the one bartender was behind the bar drinking while her very young baby was in a car seat perched on a high top table with little to no supervision. Extremely trashy and wrong to the point where my young kids kept asking where the baby's mommy was. read more

Burley Oak has one h*** of an atmosphere. People definitely come here to have fun, soak up some sun and drink cold, freshly poured BEER! Each time I visit, there seems to be some sort of event--either live music, lawn games or some sort of private event. I've even seen a potbelly pig wander outback on a leash, partying it up. Love this spot! The beer selection is extensive -- with so many sour options available (my favorite!) You can order a flight with up to six beers. I tried a slew of different sours and some of the summer wheat options. All were really delicious- especially the strawberry sour and the carrot ginger sour. I appreciated how unique the offerings were and how many choices were available. We called ahead and were told that we could bring our own food to the bar to eat with our beers. There were many take home options and a lot of nice merch to choose from with the brewery logo. Both indoor and outdoor seating were available and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Came in around lunchtime, and there were plenty of tables open. Got a flight with their fruit beers in the J.R.E.A.M. Series, but also enjoyed the Shandy they had on draft. Looks like they have events like Yoga or music, and food trucks on occasion. Very cool, rustic interior and friendly service make for a great time. Came as it was a highly rated brewery and the flavors and the selection of beers exceeded my expectations. The staff is very nice and the vibe of the restaurant is so great to enjoy on our Friday evening. The bar is so large that even though it was busy everyone was really spaced out. Even though they don't have food we got pizza next door and got to enjoy it with the flight of beers we ordered. Would love to come back on a nicer day to be able to enjoy the outdoor seating. My only complaint was the terrible musty smell in there. I'm not sure if it was there because it had been raining all day or what but it was really unpleasant. read more

We liked this place enough to walk away with four 4-packs of beer in cans and two t-shirts and we drove back for a second tour during our visit to the Assateague Island and Chincoteague island region. Taproom is beautiful and they also have a nice outdoor setup. There is plenty of parking and the service is excellent. But let's talk craft brew: 1. All the IPAs are excellent, but the aboriginal gangster brings serious lemon and lime flavor to the party at a reasonable 6.6% ABV. 2. The bunker c porter is amazing. This is the second visit in the last year and have been disappointed both times. We had the same bartenders both times who were equally as annoyed at having to be at work. This visit we had one bartender shooting a salt gun at flies and we kept getting hit with the residue. The other bartender was doing her makeup and straightening her hair at the bar. Terrific Maryland local brewery with an extremely large list. Their distribution is not super wide in other parts of the state so it's a must visit. Lots of added outdoor space! Burley Oak is a must when visiting Ocean City. It's an easy 15 min drive from the heart of OCMD and has some of the best sour beers, period. There were approximately 6 options for sour beers when I visited last in September 19 and they are constantly changing and updating their tap list. The tasting room is not huge, but service is quick and there is an outside area for those nice days. They also have live music and super fantastic T-shirts that are designed by someone who does all of their logo work. As for the specific beers. The sorry chicky is available in cans and a great option for a non-fruity sour. The double jam not jelly is extremely fruity and perfect for a nice warm day. Not every beer in their tap room is available to take home so there is a draw to going directly to Burley Oak. read more

Very good beer! Totally worth the detour before heading to Dewey! My boyfriend and I both got our own flights. I got all the sours I could. The Jream beers are outstanding! I liked every one I got! Was a little disappointed the ones I really wanted had sold out shortly before we had gotten there., but the cashier recommended another beer and it was also good. Definitely will be making a stop when we are back In the area. The only disadvantage for us there was no food, therefore we didn't want to continue to drink more since we were heading to Dewey beach. Stopped by off season in October for a few beers and pizza from Wood Fired Pizza across the street. Bartender was friendly and attentive, atmosphere was nice, music was fun, and the beer was good! There were 21 beers on tap, amazing for off season! Some might of been finish the keg specials, but it was still impressive. Wife had the red ale and really enjoyed it. Was a little more bitter than I like. I tried the porter and stout. Both had the right flavor profile, but the mouthfeel was thinner than I expected. I like the vibe of the bar and am sure I would find a beer I enjoyed. Fun spot! read more

I drove the four hours up to Burley Oak for their May release. Why? Because it: 1) sounded incredible. 2) was drive-thru pick up due to covid. 3) fell on my 30th birthday mid-pandemic so what else was I going to do? Upon arrival, I stopped at the front of the building to inquire about a different sour bottle unrelated to the release. It turned out I was able to snag the last one. I happened to mention how cool that was since it was my birthday, and the guy asked for my favorite color. He swiftly returned with a purple koozie on the house. So sweet!! I then looped around back, easily grabbed my pre-ordered Jreams, and was on my way. Unfortunately I've never otherwise been to the brewery, so I've yet to see the innards. Maybe one day. However, I have had plenty of their beers via trades, and the Jreams series is top tier in the industry. read more

What's there to say about Burley Oak? They've been one of my favorite east coast brewers for years now. They make things that make you question if you even know what a beer is anymore, like their entire JREAM series. When I stopped in, they had their green apple and pink lemonade JREAMs, which were both great. Up north, there are people who will move heaven and earth to try to get their hands on some of those cans. Also, if you want to do some trades, hit me up. Anyway, I wasn't even expecting to stop into Burley Oak on my trip to Ocean City (which itself was last minute... long story). But after seeing how close of a drive it was (about 15-20 mins depending on traffic), we all decided to stop in. It was a weekday and not a release day, so it was pretty calm. The taproom was open. The yard was open. And they had food going from Uno Mas tacos. Got a fish taco and did a flight and then some while the rest of the non-beer drinkers we were with just got increasingly annoyed with how much we were enjoying ourselves. Unfortunately, the don't serve anything that's not beer, so bring the right crowd. Or just drop people off on Main Street in Berlin to do some quaint small town shopping. They do some cans to go (though I just missed their new JREAM release by a week). And they sell all sorts of merch, including button down shirts! I picked up a trucker hat and a windbreaker. Went in twice during our visit to Berlin. The first time I tried a variety of IPA's with a pilsner thrown in. I tried 100 w/ Mosaic, Aboriginal, Sea Heathen, Mos Dank, Citralaxy, and Fluffy Puppy. They all were very good. I especially liked the Sea Heathen because it was light and refreshing for a hot day. The Fluffy Puppy (IPA with Marshmallow) was surprising good, but I don't think I'd get a full pour. I ended the visit with Eternal Midnight, which was a delicious S'more inspired imperial stout, highly recommend. On my next visit I went in a sour direction with the Sea Heathen thrown in because I liked it during my first visit. I tried Sorry Chicky, the Peach, and the Grape, Blueberry, Lemon-Lime J.R.E.A.M. series. The Sorry Chicky was very good, but I didn't care for the other sours. Overly fruited and the lactose turned me off. One pour looked liked a thick blueberry milkshake, which I found off putting. What made up for the visit however was the Cosmic Fresh Pitch w/ Phantasm. It was a very good IPA with a nice depth of flavors. The service was great and the place itself is really clean and nicely decorated. read more

I FINALLY made the trip to one of my all time favorite breweries, and the trip was well worth it. Beer: Like this was even a question. It's amazing. Burley Oak ended up my top brewery of 2021 (no shock there). If you love beer, drink them. If you end up in the area, go there. Atmosphere: Absolutely awesome. The tasting room was covered in beautiful artwork that I loved. Everything felt super rustic and homey, which felt perfect for a brewery. And their outdoor space is huge, perfect for a summer outing. Our BnB was 200 yards from this place so we ventured in one night. Pretty unassuming, laid back country vibe which drew us is. We sought out the brewery door vs the yard entrance, got some beers and attempted to venture into the outside area. We were then met with an "employee" who had his hand out for $20ea, stating "this is a paid event". We did a 180 and went back into the taproom simply out of the extortion vibes we got from a guy who was either a real employee or he was holding the door for us, looking to rip us off. Either way-same vibe. We spent a total of $25 for the 4 of us, when our impact on the brewery could've been 10x that. Confusing guidelines and random restrictions are a turn off. read more

I stopped by this hip local brew house in Berlin, MD on my drive down to Florida. Normally, I would not have come here. I wanted to avoid the dull and stress inducing drive on the Interstate and drive below 50 MPH all the way... to chill and soak it in. Thanks to Harvest Hosts, I found this neat join on their app that allow my motor home to stay overnight for free. The pictures and the reviewed looked very promising, but you never know until one actually gets there. There have been many disappointments in the past - but not this place! This place is totally awesome for any beer lovers! They have over 20 freshly brewed craft beer on tap - yes, twenty! I tried their Session IPA, Stout, and Wheat beer. All excellent. After having 3 pints on empty stomach, my brain finally caught up and had a thought in slow motion... "try the sampler...." alas, too late. I drove all day and pretty tired. So, I decided to go back to my RV and sack in. But before doing so, I grabbed some cool merch from the extremely gracious host, Laurier, who can tell you the entire history of the place - yes, I can tell everyone, who works here and the regular patrons, know their craft. In town for a weekend in OCMD. It was can release day of JREAM and Coogie. I was told by a coworker at Birthright Brewing to visit and bring back beer. A must visit.
