This was a great experience. A friend and I went for lunch! The host and servers had great energy, and vouched for the food! Which is always nice hearing the staff's favs! The cornbread was amazing, My oxtails were so tender and yummy! We ordered the crab cake balls as an appetizer and that was my least favorite! The owner greeted as well! I will definitely be going back!

Welp after me and my coworker went there during restaurant week for the lunch special and the chicken had still feathers on it. I was very disappointed. That was some months ago an old coworker of mine who hadn't checked the spot out wanted to be a judge for herself, but asked me to lunch why you ask apparently she don't know me very well but I tagged Long anyway hoping I would not be disappointed we ended up wanting to eat outside of a friend of ours restaurant so we ordered our food to go this time. I went onto the dinner menu side, hoping that it would be a little bit different. They would have to take their time I ordered the jerk chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and I opted for cabbage because in my book if you mess up cabbage, you really shouldn't be a cook the young lady and the staff as always are always super nice. It's the food. I have a problem with some of my coworkers knew I was going and had heard rave reviews about their desserts so One asked for a strawberry cake when I asked for a chocolate cake and then somebody asked could they have the peach cobbler this time they actually had it so we go back to eat our food. My other two coworkers met us there we're sitting outside. They're eating their pizza. Their sandwiches and me and my girlfriend are eating our Black Eyed Peas food when the young lady brought it out to me my dinner from the counter and she opened the box and I looked at the cabbage with one giant quarter inch sliced carrot and cabbage. There was void of any type of seasoning not even pepper. I have never in my life seen clear, white cabbage unless it was in soup of some sort she noticed my face asked what was wrong. I asked her could I swap out the cabbage for the collard greens again if you don't know how to cook collard greens you shouldn't cook collard greens she asked me why I told her it looks bland. Oh boy was outright cause she left the cabbage in the container and brought me another container of greens so would it me and my friends do we played Russian roulette for lunch with my lunch? Everyone took a taste. Don't get me wrong. The jerk chicken spicy just like I like it great move over to the mashed potatoes and gravy. It was OK. Let's leave it at that then we moved over to the pale looking cabbage, stabbed by fork. Got two pieces, tasted it exactly what I thought no flavor no seasoning no nothing so my other girlfriend said well let's try the greens. We pop up the greens that had a little bit of flavor tank of vinegar. That's about it as always their corn rib, honey cornbread always on point so I close my container and said I'll just save this for later. Take it home judge it up something we move over to the desserts. We started with this strawberry cake. That is the driest strawberry cake I've ever had in my life. I don't know if it was a day old I don't know. It looked great under the plastic don't get me wrong. Then we moved over to the chocolate cake, moist perfect chocolate chocolatey icing straight out of the Duncan Hines can loved it then we all took a spoon and we decided to try the peach cup when we opened it we kind of stared at it for a second because it looked kind of like bread pudding with peaches so we all took it in and Bow her head and set a prayer and one of my girlfriend said please Lord let this head flavor we giggled we all took a bite. I think all of us had the same thought in our head. This taste like the consistency of bread pudding when I think peach cobbler, I think of crust flaky, buttery seasoned crust, not a banana pudding consistency, and that's what it tasted like banana pudding with peaches I will not be going back to Black Eyed Peas ever again I gave it a second try if I had to go back just to talk to the staff. I definitely go back to staff is amazing. The food is something to be desired.

Hubby and I decided to jump in the car and drive to Norfolk, VA...don't ask me why I picked Norfolk, VA...I kinda closed my eyes and...just kidding . I wanted to pick a place that we had never been before. It's day two and so far we've had a good time. For dinner we decided to visit Blackeyed Peas near the river front for dinner. It's a soul food restaurant and the menu looks...DELICIOUS!!! The restaurant is festively decorated...it kind of has a New Orleans vibe. There are three floors, and the first floor has a bar, windows and high top table seating. The second and third floors seat larger party's and the third floor is for parties and events. So hubby ordered jerk chicken, collard greens and sweet potatoes. I ordered the salmon, collard greens, sweet potatoes and of course the black eyed peas (because you can't go to a restaurant named Blackeyed Peas and not try the black eyed peas right???) ‍ They were a little behind in the kitchen but I was very appreciative of our server who kept us informed and up to date. Our food finally came out and it was piping hot!! It looks delicious and tastes scrumptious!!! It's seasoned well and you get great portions!! This is easily two meals for me!! My only critique would be to add some smoked paprika to the potato salad but other than that...don't change a thing!! If I'm ever in Norfolk again...I will definitely be back! And please consider brining your establishment to Greenville, South Carolina!! We could use a nice soul food spot like this!!

This is the New and improved blackeyed peas in Norfolk, they moved from Virginia Beach. This was my first trip there to the new location and to be honest the food was still good the portions were huge... but I had a few takeaways - so let's get into it ... my first and biggest issue was parking - it was terrible we drove around for a good 10 mins in circles until we found some open spots near the college down the street it was Sunday so the college was closed. Walked up the street about a block, wasn't a bad walk. Upon arrival issue number 2 there were stairs going up and a door to the right - my friend went straight up the stairs however it was the door to the right - make it plain, put a clear sign up so you know which door to choose - the host saw us going up the stairs and rescued us before we made it to the top. My observations - the place is really cute inside, the decor was really nice - but it was smaller, a lot smaller than VB. We ended up getting a table pretty quickly but needed a lower table and they were able to accommodate us after about 20 mins. The food came out the kitchen relatively quick - we got lost in the conversation so it didn't seem like it was long at all. The food is really good but for me needed a little more salt. But don't get it twisted I enjoyed it. All and all would I go back probably but more than likely I would call a car. We ended up sitting there for hours as they transition from lunch to dinner and the waitress kept coming to check on us... the staff were great, like really great.. the decor is nice and the location is in the middle of everything.... We were served hot cornbread or should I say corn cake / delicious- then my niece ordered the nachos fully loaded -we sent it back after eating about 1/4 of it we had not found any meat... but the food came out so quickly we said cancel it and they did but they remade it and sent it back out. The second one was fire it was delicious perfect! O ordered the pork chops wow two huge pork chops I ate one and took the other home - everyone smashed their food except the collard greens my friend ordered them she said they were good but too salty. We did not get dessert this time but they still had the huge fluffy pieces of cake... same Chef, same recipes... good food

My friend and I came here for dinner on Juneteenth before going over to the concert on waterside. We were greater as we came in and asked to sit at the bar since the sign outside said happy hour was bar only. The bartender quickly provided us menus to look over. The food menu was big with plenty of yummy options. The drink menu was small with a select number of options which still wasn't bad. After we placed our orders the bartender made our drinks. It was not packed but there were several tables filled. The wait for our food wasn't too long. We were given pieces of cornbread while we waited for our food. The cornbread was sweet with a glaze on top. I wanted to save mine to eat with my collards. My friend ordered the sausage, peppers and onions that came with rice. She got cabbage & greens as her sides. I got the fried pork chops with mac n cheese and greens. I also got 3 of the happy hour wingettes. The food was great!! Everything was seasoned well. The pork chops were thick but not dry. They give you plastic cutlery. I was surprised I could cut the thick pork chops with the plastic knife, but it worked. The mac n cheese was very good too. It can be hard to find good restaurant mac n cheese. The collards were good, I would have preferred a bigger bowl of them lol. The decor inside gives you an old saloon vibe. Definitely a great spot for soul food. I told my husband I needed to bring him here, definitely will be back!!

I called ahead of time and asked if they took walk ins and was told they didn't, so I made reservations for 6pm. With this restaurant being located off Granby St., I figured I'd better find the location first before finding parking. Upon arrival, I almost drove right past it. The only sign they had was a "Black Spice" sign in the window, which was very easy to miss. Thankfully, we found a close parking garage and it was a short walk to the restaurant. We were seated as soon as we walked in and the place was practically empty. Before getting settled, we asked if we could sit at the tables with a booth (for comfortable seating) but was told that those tables were reserved for parties of 3 or more. We understood, but funny enough, there were two (yes, two) ladies sitting at a nearby table with a booth! Insert side eye lol! We started with drinks and appetizers. The drinks were okay but not very strong. We ordered the CrabMac and the Lobster Egg Rolls. The CrabMac was good but the Egg Rolls seemed to miss the mark a bit, for me. I think they would've been better without the cheese. For our entrees, my friend ordered the Salmon and I ordered the Braised Short Ribs. My friend said her Salmon was okay but I wasn't a fan of the Short Ribs. They were covered with a very interesting, bbq sauce that I didn't quite enjoy. I've ordered Short Ribs before but I've never had them with such a thick, bbq sauce. The Mashed Potatoes were garlicky and very tasty and the Sautéed Spinach was so good, I ordered another side of it. Once we finished eating, we asked for the check and my bill came up to $91.80! I just knew they had given me the wrong bill lol! They automatically added 15% Gratuity on the bill without our knowledge. Our server was great so I was going to tip either way, it just would've been nice to be notified ahead of time. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything I ate that would justify spending that much lol! The staff were very nice but I'm sure I won't be returning again. By the way, no one ever came to sit at the table with the booth, so we definitely could've sat there. SMH!

It's the kind of establishment that understands both execution and consistency--two qualities that are increasingly rare and always appreciated. The shrimp and grits remains a signature highlight. The Creole sauce offers a restrained heat, balanced by a layered depth of flavor that speaks to careful preparation rather than excess. The shrimp are properly cooked, retaining a delicate snap, while the stone-ground grits provide a well-seasoned, creamy foundation. Each component is thoughtfully prepared, and together they form a cohesive dish that feels both composed and satisfying--an authentic nod to Cajun tradition without unnecessary embellishment. Gershwin's stands as a reliable fixture in the downtown dining scene. For those seeking a refined take on Southern and New Orleans classics, it is well worth the visit--and a strong example of the quality found within Norfolk's local restaurant community.

If this restaurant was in an area that was even moderately competitive they would have been put out of business. The bar seems adequate but it was almost like they stopped serving food and forgot to tell anyone. I swear I'm not making this up, this actually happened: 1) it took over 2.5 hours for the entrees to come out. One came out so early that by the time the second set came out they were already done. 2) The only appetizer that was ordered that actually came out, arrived after the entree was done. 3) One person's order had to be changed 5x because the waiter kept coming back to say they're out. When his pork chop finally arrived, it was undercooked and not eatable. 4) Nothing was offered in any way as a comp, nor any real apology If you go, be wary. There is no way they were this thoroughly incompetent in every single aspect of the food services industry without practice.

After waiting an hour, we were informed that the garlic shrimp for our garlic noodles was unavailable, despite it being part of our original order. Throughout the meal, our water glasses were never refilled, and there was little communication about the delays or unavailable menu items. After roughly 90 minutes of waiting, multiple delays, and learning that several items were unavailable, we decided to pay for what we had received the two Sapporos, the shrimp sandwich, and the Vang rolls, which came to about $70. Very sexy in here! We dined in for their happy hour. We were able to check in with one of the party host for an extended happy hour instead of it being until 7 pm with our yellow wristbands it was extended until 9 p.m. Drink specials only! Happy hour included draft specials, Margaritas were $5 and well drinks I believe for $4 and wine was $4 as well no food specials. This restaurant only features tapas so it's basically meant to come: chill, take a bite of something and just enjoy the atmosphere. I'm not sure if they play music but I can see where as they would push the lounge table and chair's back or take up the chairs and tables and have an open dance floor So excited to see how the night life will be in here. We arrived a little after 5pm... traffic was crazy on Waterside Dr. The atmosphere oozes high energy!! We sat at the bar (large bar) where our bartender was Katharine AKA Kate and she made us some grrrrreat Margaritas!! She's legit see her if you're in here!! The restrooms are on the outside of the restaurant so it's a short walk. If you want to dine on the patio you can do that as well. The Baja tacos which I had were absolutely good I didn't know they had onions on them but other than that they were still good. The harbor sliders they were very good as well with a handful of chips that I believe are homemade... cost $50 so you can't beat that looking forward. TVs are positioned around the perimeter of the club. And there are two bars located inside this club. The wait staff seems a little scattered but they managed to care for all. Parking is available via: the garages, meter parking. The food did take a lonnnnng to come. I'm not not sure why. While time was passing by we were high off of the energy in the club! Tapas and a full bar can be found here... mostly seafood. So much enthusiasm and high energy in the atmosphere where as time went by super fast but still the food should have came out a little bit sooner than what it did.

Immediately took our order, gave us a quick perusal of the drinks, and then promptly poured three different types of spirits, a wine for my first brother, a vodka and cranberry for my second and a whiskey flight that they had on the special for myself. We enjoyed all three. In terms of food, we ordered a couple of different appetizers, including the pizza. And I actually was hoping we were going to order dinner because all of the entrees that we saw hit the bar around us looked fantastic. We ended up connecting with a really cool local business owner by the name of Sonny, who is also at the bar having a bit of dinner before heading back to his Shop.
