Absolutely one of my favorite places to visit when I'm out with friends in Bristol! Everything I've gotten there has been delicious including their coffee, and they have a pretty large selection of desserts. They have a good amount of seating (upstairs and downstairs) and the atmosphere is really cozy. I believe they have live music sometimes which is nice. I would 100% recommend Blackbird! read more

We arrived around 11:15pm on a Saturday and the place was hoppin'. Tables were filled throughout the cafe and the line was long. After having tried 4 different desserts (we couldn't decide on just 1 each), I can see why blackbird bakery is packed probably all of the time. As out-of-towners, it will be a while before we return but only because the drive is 4.5 hours for us. Blueberry glazed donut: best blueberry donut I've had anywhere. A little sweeter than I like but the glaze looked and tasted like they use real blueberries to make them. The donut itself had a nice flavor and texture. Vanilla/lemon/coffee French macarons: the only 3 flavors left. They had a nice crunch to the cookies, which was great, but the flavors weren't the best I've tried. A little bland. Strawberry cheesecake bar: not my favorite. Super dense and almost biscuit-like. Which I guess could be a good thing to some but one bite was enough for me. Crème brûlée: holy crap. Maybe I don't have anything to compare this to because it was actually my first (WHY HAVE I WAITED SO LONG) but the custard filling was absolutely delicious and so creamy. The hard caramel top wasn't as hard as it should be, but it had also been sitting in the case probably all day. The first bite I had was a little off-putting because it was a tad too burnt but everything thereafter was heavenly. I used my finger as a utensil towards the end... New favorite dessert. We will recommend this place to anyone visiting the tri-cities. read more

I have heard raves about this location and so we had to try it. Just not my cup of tea as they say. I thought maybe it was just me but my husband was also not a fan. Several months later went back thinking we just caught them on a bad day. Again the food was just not good. Guess my palette is just different than those that adore the place. Mmmmmmm... desserts! This place stays open 24 /7. This is the only bakery I have ever heard of that does such a thing. Pretty amazing selection of delicious desserts. I had an apple caramel cheesecake bar that was amazing. But I also bought the peanut butter bar and a chocolate covered donut with peanut butter inside. But why stop there I also got a chocolate covered cupcake that was totally decadent. I forgot what my brother got but we definitely were quite satisfied. Why didn't I stop there every day for a selection? Oh well, A couple extra pounds can't hurt, LOL. read more

I used to live in Bristol and always loved going to blackbird. They have the best baked goods ever. Now anytime I am in town, I make a point to stop. However, this last time, the staff was INCREDIBLY RUDE. The two young guys that were getting the baked goods out of the display counter were awful. One refused to talk and didn't want to help anyone. The other snapped "What do you want?" as soon as we approached the counter and then got even more snippy at my father because he asked for a cup of coffee. He snapped "get it at checkout" so my dad didn't even want to order anything after that. Blackbird used to be such a. warm and welcoming environment and I am so disappointed with how they let the staff treat customers now. read more

We made the trip over to Blackbird to pick up some sweet treats this morning. Located in downtown Bristol, I can't say much for this particular street, as it looked mostly devoid of businesses but the bakery was a sight for sugar sore eyes. It's a cute shop with glass cases exhibiting row after row of mouthwatering sweetness. We selected the coconut filled donuts, Bavarian cream filled donuts and a dozen of the glazed holes. Once home, we dug in to the delightful bits. I found the coconut donut to be good yet overly sweet with a grainy texture; as if filled with frosting. Not for me. Next, in line was the chocolate Bavarian creme filled donut. Now, I have had a love-affair going with eclair-type desserts since childhood and have quite a bit of eating experience in this area... Their "Bavarian creme" is of the pudding-like custard variety, which is my favorite, but typically donut custard isn't considered a Bavarian creme so I did have to ask the girl for clarification. The donut was topped with a chocolate ganache. I could peel it right off. It was good but dare I say it.... ordinary. The holes were just holes. Also, unmemorable. Although I found this bakery to be cute and completely necessary, it failed to impress me with its donuts. read more

Yummy baked goods but I have been extremely disappointed with their customer service the past 2 times I've been. I'm not usually one to complain, but I was left feeling uncomfortable and frustrated these past couple times. I was completely ignored at the counter when I was the only person in the store. Even when I received my baked items I waited at the register for close to 5 minutes while the girl chatted and flirted uncomfortably with her coworker. My family also tried to come in at 9:45 before they closed at 10 and were yelled at when we came in and were told they would be ignoring us if we got in line because they needed to close. It was very rude. I work in the service industry and know it's difficult to deal with customers every day, but please, at least be kind. read more

Run, do not walk, to Blackbird Bakery. Their doughnuts are out of this world. The hash brown casserole is just like grandma used to make. Actually it's better than grandma's; shh, don't tell grandma. The staff is friendly, the cafe area makes you want to stay all day and read or connect to their wifi or sketch or just eat one of everything. Be careful. You really will want one of everything. The staff can advise you if a beverage or pastry tends to be very sweet or not too sweet, depending on what you're looking for. Blackbird Bakery is reasonably priced, extremely popular (at peak times the lines are out the door - and well worth waiting - and that's part of the fun. This please is special. You can feel the positive vibes from the owner and management, it comes through loud and clear in the warmth and professionalism and kindness of the staff. Great bakery, great customer service, a five star experience hands down. I can't wait for my next trip back to the area so I can work my way though everything in the bakery case, lol. We make it a habit that when we have out of town guests to give them a sampling of our local treasures of both sights and eateries. Blackbird is high on the list and this week proved to us its for good reason. We have friends from Florida staying with us trying to avoid hurricane Irma. A visit to the Bakery not only was a wonderful treat with awesome eclairs and the best ice cream in the world, but offered all of a pleasant distraction from their worries. This place is off the hook!! They have so much to choose from. My first visit I had the chocolate chip cheese cake, it did not disappoint! The filing had a great texture with a smooth taste and was not over sweetened. The crust was almost like a brownie in taste and texture. The over balance of chocolate and cream cheese was near perfect. They also have really good coffee, I had a medium Latte on both my visits, they were not too strong but still had a rich coffee taste. The next visit I decided to try the excellent looking donuts, I had a chocolate cake glazed and a Bavarian cream filled with a chocolate glaze. They were both great! The cream filled donut had a great balance of flavor the combination of chocolate and Bavarian cream were near perfect. The chocolate cake donut had a nice crisp outer shell with a moist not to dense inside. It is within walking distance of the Bristol Hotel, the Country Music Museum, as well as the main strip that runs along the Tennessee Virginia line. If you are looking for some caffeine or just something to satisfy your sweet tooth the BlackBird is a great place to visit. read more

We visited our son and daughter-in-law this week and they had been excited about taking us to Blackbird on one of the days we were in town. We went on Monday, October 11 and enjoyed everything about the bakery. It's in an easy to access area in downtown and there is plenty of parking. The decor is very nice with lots of comfortable seating and art from a local artist hanging on the walls. The number of pastry and ice cream selections was a little overwhelming. However, the employees were very patient and answered all of our questions. We tried several different items, each of which were generous portions. We had leftovers and gladly took them with us in the nice boxes they provided. We returned home yesterday and still have some of the chocolate tower left in the fridge. :) We definitely recommend Blackbird Bakery to anyone in the Bristol area that may have a sweet tooth that needs to be satisfied. You will find wonderful treats, large portion sizes, reasonable prices and a friendly staff. read more

Sorry, I want to give a good review, but must add what I experienced. Help staff was attentive. No issues there. I ordered a cherry cheesecake donut. I think it was to have a filling. It was the size of a dime. Veey disappointed. In my earlier visits, the donuts were good. Yesterday reminded me of store bought... Like Walmart. Visually, they are stunning. Taste wise... Meh.
