Pastries were delicious, especially the cheesecake bars. My husband got cranberry orange, and I got caramel apple. This place was busy! Right before Christmas rush, we were picking up some cakes for holiday gatherings. Took awhile for staff to find our pre-orders in the cooler. Located in a wonderful vintage building in historic downtown Bristol, Tennessee, this is a must stop. I stumbled across this very quaint and cute local bakery! The minute I walked in, the aroma of all the pastries immediately hit me! The ambiance is very nice and inviting. There's also plenty of seating and parking, too! It's perfect for a cute date night or even a late night dessert with friends. The employees were super friendly and very patient with me as I browsed the entire selection of baked goods! The choices were numerous which made my decision so much harder! The bakery is open until late (10pm on a Wednesday!) and I arrived around 8pm, still having a wide variety of options to choose from. I decided on the delicious cinnamon bun that you see in the attached video, however the video does not do it any justice! It is EASILY the best cinnamon bun I've ever had. I also got a chocolate chip cookie. It's my go to whenever I'm trying a new bakery, I must try a chocolate chip cookie. It did not disappoint! This prominent shop is on the Virginia side of Bristol, in an area with small side streets and not a lot else around. It has two floors and offers tons of options. The ice cream is from a Roanoke area place; I didn't feel compelled to get it but it is high quality cream. The baked goods spread was indulgent. What these creations lacked in subtlety, they possessed in sweetness. I sampled a couple and shared the rest. The cookie covering on my oreo donut was a bit excessive. If you can find some balance and eat something less sweet as well, these are some nice-looking pastries. read more

Downtown location is a very enjoyable and cozy place. My experiences there have been a mixed bag though. It's def the highest end bakery I have found in the area. They have actual donut variety. Not just one batter or dough with different toppings like another local place. I haven't had any issues with the intended outcome of their products. It's one hundred percent real high end bakery. Once I got a strawberry filled donut and it was fermenting. The donut part seemed fresh enough so I suppose they just didn't pay attention to how old their tub of filling was. They may have been horrified to learn they had done this to a customer but I didnt give em the chance to respond. I just threw it out and got on with my day. The second negative was when I called and asked to order some fritters without glaze. I knew I'd have to wait for the next batch that was being made and told em that was fine. They wouldn't do it though. I don't know if they couldn't figure out how not to put glaze on something or just didn't want to bother. A cherry almond filled donut, two yeast style glazed donuts, a cherry almond bar and an almond croissant. Not pictured was a blueberry lemon scone, apple fritter and lemon bar. I LOVE all things cherry and almond so that's part of my love for Blackbird, they always have several options in that flavor combo, which I find rare. The cherry almond filled donut is seriously sweet with the icing and filling so if that's not your thing, pass on it or eat half. The croissants are light, airy and flaky like a croissant should be. Blackbird Bakery is a Bristol institution. We stopped in while visiting for the annual music festival last weekend. There was a line out the door (good sign) and for the most part, it was worth the wait. The pastries were next level. My wife said the maple glazed donut was the best one she has ever had - that's saying a lot! On the room for improvement side, the ice coffee was mostly milk and the latte was meh. Food was great. Service was abysmal. Crew in particular. I ordered two cups of ice cream - one for my husband and I to split, and one for my two sons. One scoop is big here - more like 2, and it was close to bedtime. We wanted to split the boys' ice cream into two cups, so we asked the young lady serving us for a second cup to split the boys, and she handed it to us. Crew then appeared and said, "You can't do that," and held out his hand to my husband for the cup, explaining that "you could buy another cup of ice cream, and we would charge you for that." Taken aback, my husband and I just gave him shocked smiles and declined that. He then THREW THE CUP AWAY. The cup we could've used. I can think of about 4 better ways this could've been handled. My family & I visited while in town for a short trip. We ordered a variety of items from the menu. First the breakfast "nesties" we got the bacon, egg & cheese. These are very large and definitely shareable. I found them to be good but a bit too much cheese for me and they need to be eaten right away bc once they sit for a while they can be a bit greasy. For sweets we tried a few of their donuts--pumpkin, blueberry, red velvet, apple fritter, Bavarian cream and caramel frosted! All were delicious, fresh and well worth it! We washed it all down with a simple drip coffee that was fresh & better than Starbucks by far. Only reason for 4 stars would be the service. Most employees were pleasant and helpful but one seemed annoyed we were even there. Definitely worth taking the trip to visit this place!
