Our first afternoon tea at Camella's Remember When was such a special experience! It was a surprise family date with our daughters before seeing *The Da Vinci Code* at the Barter Theatre and having dinner at The Tavern, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our day. The service was wonderful, and the presentation was absolutely beautiful. We started with a delicious chilled lavender iced tea that was perfectly balanced not too sweet or overly floral and the Blue Eyes tea, which reminded us of a warm caramel apple. Both were excellent. Our tea service began with a fresh mixed greens salad topped with a strawberry and a lovely house dressing. Then came the tiered tower filled with an assortment of savory bites and sweet treats. My daughter was especially excited to discover her new favorite food: cucumber sandwiches! We finished with a light, creamy blackberry mousse style dessert that was the perfect ending. One thing we'll definitely do differently next time is allow more time and arrive hungrier. We didn't realize afternoon tea included so much food, so we found ourselves rushing a bit to make it to our show. The history of the building made the experience even more memorable. Learning that it's the oldest house and the third-oldest building in Abingdon was fascinating. Over the years it has served many purposes, including being home to a family with ten children and functioning as a Civil War hospital. We especially enjoyed learning that it was one of the few buildings spared from being burned because it cared for wounded soldiers from both sides. I was tempted by the allure of a lavender sweet tea. It's a cute little shop with lots of loose teas infused with different herbs and flavorings. The owner, Miss Carrie, was very sweet and we ended up buying tea as gifts, plus ordered some scones and a mini peach pie in addition to a lavender sweet tea. The sweet tea was very good. The scone I had lacked a little flavor and the pie crust was good, but the peaches might not have been fully in season to make it as good as I recall peach pie to be. I do believe the fact I waited a day to eat them (was traveling) could have affected the flavors. I think overall the offerings were quite good and would recommend folx give her offerings a try. read more

The family that owns this establishment are amazing people, the shop is so cute and fits the ambiance of abingdon in its entirety, the Lavender sweet tea is probably my favorite drink ever invented. You can not!!! Go wrong with stopping here, the tea, and dessert selection is amazing in itself then when you factor in the tea parties and the amazing staff then it's absolutely perfect!! read more

This was such a delightful experience! I'm so glad there is an Afternoon tea here. I went with one of my friends, dressed in our best tea attire and had a ball. Not only was the experience luxurious but the food was to die for. We had a salad and a three tier finger food sampling. Ended it with a delish mini dessert. Not to mention you pick 2 teas to sip on throughout the experience. They switch their menu every season and we will definitely be going back. This is perfect for catching up with a longtime friend or just a day out with the girls. Highly recommend! read more

When in Abingdon...must try the Lavender Sweey Tea from Camella's!!! Randomly decided to check out this quaint shop with a very kind owner. Cute little gift shop as well. The owner specially curated a stock of fine teas, tasty pastries, desserts, and the ever-so-delicious lavender sweet tea. I still think about it and wish I had gotten it by the gallon!! What a treat! One rarely gets as doted on as I did today. The music, crystal, china, and other accoutrements were all lovely. The food was delicious, especially the pistachio scone. I really love this little quaint tea house ,and the teas that I got all were great quality too

Disappointing experience. We saw their sign walking by and stopped in hoping for some tea. The entrance is confusing but we found it and walked through the shop to find a nearly empty tea room. After waiting at the door for about ten minutes, someone finally came and told us we needed a reservation and to come back tomorrow. She was rude. Additionally, their signage and menu do say reservations preferred but really that should say reservations required. We never would have wasted our time had we understood that policy. The front room offered tea and coffee, but their glass display of ice cream and baked goods was darn near empty. My friend ordered a pumpkin latte but once we got outside she said it was not good and ended up dumping it out. We won't be back and we told the front desk at our hotel about our dismal experience so hopefully they can steer other guests away from a similar disappointment. read more

Camella's is a sweet little tea room, where the food is delicate and delicious and the tea is incredible. Plan to spend a few hours there, as it truly is an "afternoon tea". As far as food and tea goes, I would give the place 5 stars. My 9-year-old daughter loved learning about the history of the location and practicing her perfect manners. Overall, it was delightful, and we will definitely go back. WARNING: Do not go there if you are looking for a place to talk with your girlfriends, as the hostess is a bit of a prude... Also, do not make the same mistake we did, and play dress up in her shop (unless you buy it first). read more

We stopped here during a trip where we were passing through Abingdon and decided to have lunch and try this place afterwards for tea, ice cream and scones. The Belgian chocolate rooibos tea was delicious as was the Mayfield ice cream. We have yet to try the scones but I'll update when we do. Camella was very friendly and told us a bit about the history of the building as well as the town. We plan on going back to stay in Abingdon and try their afternoon tea. Camella's is an Abingdon staple. I've been there many times since they opened, and each visit leaves me feeling more refreshed than the last. Carrie, the owner, is an incredibly kind woman with a hearty sense of humor and a thorough knowledge of tea. She cares deeply for her customers and is clearly passionate about her business. Nowhere else in Abingdon has loose leaf tea to match her quality, especially with such a variety of flavors. The menu changes each month to match the season. For any worried about leaving on an empty stomach - you will not! The portions combined with the tea are actually quite filling, and eating slowly aids digestion. I consider Camella's afternoon tea a transformative, meditative experience, and cannot recommend it highly enough. The adjoined ice cream and gift shop are also sweet places to stop and perfect for holiday gifts! read more

The service was mediocre at best. Trying to purchase fudge and loose tea was difficult. We were discouraged from buying the tea and fudge by extensive waiting and lack of service. Our original intent was to purchase more, but after everything we were told they only accept cash, checks and PayPal, no credit cards whatsoever. Very disappointing. read more

I have been to Camella's twice, and the first time I was there I was in love with the scones and lavender tea. The second time I went I had to take my scones to go and did not end up eating them until the next day. When I split them in half to heat up in the microwave I discovered the entire scone was covered with mold on the inside. May be a good idea for them to post what day the scones were made before people purchase them. read more
