Abingdon is a little town with a lot of fast food outlets and doesn't exactly have a vibrant cafe society or third spaces for people living outside of the nuclear family unit constellation. So I was delighted to find this little cafe/ bookshop (The Book Cellar) which even has a tiny garden as well where you can get a cuppa tea, browse the books, sit down and maybe just get some writing done or just collect your thoughts. Folks were very friendly and I had no problems here whatsoever. It's small, very cozy but for little Abingdon, it's just right. I was so happy to find this corner of Abingdon. I may come back to Abingdon in the future for other workshops and if I do, I sure hope this little shop and cafe are still here.

Our server took a while to come over, and there were several moments where she seemed unsure about the menu. The sign at the door and the menu both said to ask about the grilled cheese of the day. When I asked, she responded in a very perplexed tone, "Umm, I think it's..." -- which was a little surprising since it was already 1 p.m. When she told me what it was, I realized it had meat. I even said, "Oh darn, it has meat on it," since I'm vegetarian, and she just replied, "Yeah." I noticed later that the menu says many items can be modified for vegan and gluten-free diets, so it would have been nice if she had mentioned that the grilled cheese could potentially be customized. I also asked what the soup was, and again she had to stop and think before saying, "I believe it's..." The name/description was unusual, so when we asked her to repeat it, she didn't really explain what it was. I'm still not entirely sure what the soup actually was. I was a server for years, and I completely understand not knowing every little thing, but knowing the daily specials and being able to describe them is pretty important. There was also some confusion about the breakfast menu. I was surprised to learn that grits are available after 11 a.m. on Saturdays. I asked if breakfast was served all day and specifically mentioned that I knew gravy and grits weren't available after 11 based on the menu. She then told me that on Saturdays they are available, which seems like something that could probably be clarified on the menu. Overall, the service wasn't bad, it just felt like it was lacking a little energy and attentiveness. We were never offered or given a refill on our sodas either. That said, the food was DELICIOUS, and the atmosphere is really cute and relaxing. I definitely plan to come back and try more of the menu. Hopefully the service was just an off day, because this little restaurant has a lot going for it!

The service was wonderful, and the presentation was absolutely beautiful. We started with a delicious chilled lavender iced tea that was perfectly balanced not too sweet or overly floral and the Blue Eyes tea, which reminded us of a warm caramel apple. Both were excellent. Our tea service began with a fresh mixed greens salad topped with a strawberry and a lovely house dressing. Then came the tiered tower filled with an assortment of savory bites and sweet treats. My daughter was especially excited to discover her new favorite food: cucumber sandwiches! We finished with a light, creamy blackberry mousse style dessert that was the perfect ending. One thing we'll definitely do differently next time is allow more time and arrive hungrier. We didn't realize afternoon tea included so much food, so we found ourselves rushing a bit to make it to our show. The history of the building made the experience even more memorable. Learning that it's the oldest house and the third-oldest building in Abingdon was fascinating. Over the years it has served many purposes, including being home to a family with ten children and functioning as a Civil War hospital. We especially enjoyed learning that it was one of the few buildings spared from being burned because it cared for wounded soldiers from both sides. If you're visiting Abingdon, this is a charming experience that's well worth adding to your itinerary.

The owner, Miss Carrie, was very sweet and we ended up buying tea as gifts, plus ordered some scones and a mini peach pie in addition to a lavender sweet tea. The sweet tea was very good. The scone I had lacked a little flavor and the pie crust was good, but the peaches might not have been fully in season to make it as good as I recall peach pie to be. I do believe the fact I waited a day to eat them (was traveling) could have affected the flavors. I think overall the offerings were quite good and would recommend folx give her offerings a try.

First I want to say the donuts that were correct in my order, as always, we AWESOME! When I got home, after paying nearly $16 for 12 donuts, upon opening the box I find that there are several donuts that I didn't order. Thinking I may have messed up when ordering I checked my receipt AND my app. I wasn't the one that made the mistakes, it was the employee that filled my order. If they didn't have what I asked for I should have been told or did they have it and the employee just didn't care that I had taken the time to customize my order for a reason? The quality of the donuts is terrific but the quality of the employee that filled my order....not so much so. Just make sure that you double check your order before leaving so you get what you pay for and ENJOY!!!!

Although the food was atrocious, our drinks tasted very good & the lady at the drive through did end up apologizing for the wait on the food which I appreciated. My job is in fast food as well, so I can understand mistakes can be made & how draining it is to work in food service at any corporate business, but even with up to 8 employees on shift, it shouldn't be THAT difficult to follow instructions on any customer's order.

The mouth of the lid should NEVER be placed on the seam of the cup. This is guaranteed to leak. It's a common issue with Starbucks everywhere, which is why we rarely buy coffee at this chain. In the years Starbucks has been operating, one would think they'd learn. Yet another disappointing Starbucks experience.
