Black Sage really lives up to its tagline, "a culinary adventure." Nestled in a red rock valley, the setting alone makes this place unforgettable. Dining outside under the string lights with panoramic desert views felt like we were part of something special before the food even hit the table. We started with the pretzels and I can confidently say they were the best I've ever had. Soft, warm, and paired with a tangy German beer cheese and roasted peppers that took it over the top, 10/10 appetizer. For entrées, we ordered the pulled pork sliders, mushroom carbonara, and meatloaf. The sliders were smoky, tender, and dripping with BBQ flavor, tucked inside toasted buns. The carbonara was rich and silky, loaded with mushrooms and finished with grilled bread perfect for soaking up sauce. The meatloaf was pure comfort, served over creamy mashed potatoes with gravy and crispy onions for that extra crunch. Dessert was irresistible. The spudnut, crispy on the outside, soft inside, drenched in caramel and paired with ice cream, was something I never knew I needed in my life. Easily one of the best sweet finishes I've had anywhere. Our service was warm and attentive, matching the quality of the food and atmosphere. Black Sage is the definition of a hidden gem! if you're near Zion, this is a must-visit! Just know that the road in is long and dirt, so bring a truck, Jeep, or something that can handle it. It runs about $100 a person, but for the food, service, and setting, it feels absolutely worth it. And definitely make a reservation, especially in the fall when it's their busiest season.

What an adventure! When you turn off the main road and head to Black Sage your adventure begins! Traveling about 3 or 3.5 miles down a dirt, slightly gravel road heading to the restaurant is hilarious especially if you have never been there before. You think am I going right? You and your party are either worried or laughing! We were laughing because it's very typical for me to be off the beaten path. The scenery is beautiful and you will be headed in the right direction to Blake Sage. Upon arriving you are greeted by JT, your host. A very handsome and friendly man! He will tell you a little about the gem and then take you to the small intimate restaurant that has beautiful views of the rocks. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic with a touch of rustic. The atmosphere is perfect! Then your server will appear and I am so disappointed that I cannot remember his name because he was just as fabulous as JT. We both ordered the meatloaf. I would have never ordered the meatloaf but my daughter had eaten there and highly recommended I try the delicious dish. I am so very happy that I did because it was the best meatloaf I have ever eaten!! It tasted more like a steak. All fresh and wrapped in bacon, yummy!! The mashed potatoes and turnips accompanied by a mild sauce was the perfect combination for my meal! They only serve wine and beer. I am a wine lover so I was fine with the wine selection. I don't know about the beer selection. Most everything is by the bottle and our wine was very good! When we left the restaurant we stopped and got out of the car and just looked up at the stars. The sky was full of stars and it was the perfect ending to a very memorable experience! I highly recommend trying Black Sage. It's very affordable as well!

A true culinary experience. From driving on a dirt road to get to the restaurant, being escorted under the stars to get to the dining room, being seated in a nicely lit cozy table to devouring chef's creations. The whole experience was just amazing. One person was running the whole dining area so he was busy but he still managed to provide good service. My only complaint is that they didn't have coffee or tea. I can not not have tea with my dessert to I took my dessert back to the hotel. I highly highly recommend this restaurant.

After 5 days in Zion, this was our last dinner of the trip....and it was a wonderful way to end. It is small, so a reservation is advised. This place is off the beaten path, hard to find, but worth the extra effort it took to get here. Atmosphere was lovely. We ate outdoors, with a beautiful view. The decor is simple - all wood and black. Simple, yet elegant. The indoor dining room looked tucked away and didn't seem to offer as nice of a dining experience as the outdoors...but that's just me assuming after seeing it. Their service was good. Not great, but friendly. Felt a bit rushed. The food was good. I loved my chicken dish (which the server confirmed could be made gluten free). The risotto and mushrooms that came with it were amazing! My husband had the shrimp and grits and we were all taken aback at the small serving size compared to the rest of our dinners. He enjoyed it, but added on a salad since he was still hungry. Our friends got the meatloaf (she said it was "ok" and the other got the chicken friend steak, which he also said was underwhelming. Thus only the 4 stars. Dessert was great - our friends enjoyed the carrot cake and the cheesecake was delicious and gluten free! A rare treat. I was craving a cup of decaf coffee with dessert, but they didn't have any. Maybe we hit it on an off night with the food - but overall we all enjoyed ourselves and agreed we'd be back again!

Delicious food and on point atmosphere. Seriously, this is a gem in the Zion area. I tried the burger, pasta, meatloaf, halibut and nachos and they were all excellent. Pair this with a Whole Guacamole hike at sunset and you'll have an unforgettable evening.

This restaurant is very unique, you go through a few miles of dirt road to the middle of nowhere. You drive by a pistachio orchard and I can imagine that a later dinner reservation would be the highlight of the dining experience due to the open sky dining area. The stars would be incredible here. The service was great, our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Our group ordered a charcuterie board, shiitake mushrooms and the pretzel board. All were delicious and I didn't get a chance to take a picture. I ordered the bolognese and it was the best bolognese I've ever had. All the food tasted and looked fresh. I highly recommend locals to visit for a special date or a family get together, it's so nice to have an amazing experience so close. You don't need to go out of state to feel like you're on vacation.

Black Sage may just serve the best food in all of Southern Utah! I've visited three times now and each meal has been outstanding. Keith, our server, is fantastic--honest and knowledgeable, always giving spot-on recommendations. The smoked meatloaf has become my go-to, but during my last visit, I ventured to the seasonal menu and tried the chicken-fried steak which did not disappoint. Every dish I've had has been packed with flavor, unique and perfectly cooked. Although you'll need to take a 10-minute drive down a dirt road to get there the food is well worth the journey. If you're anywhere near the Zion area make sure to stop by. Probably good to make reservations too.

The entrance

The place is a little sketchy to get to but I think it adds to the vibes. It's a cute metal conex box and everything in its surroundings is under construction. The service was abysmally slow but it wasn't the servers fault. He was the only one there. The food tasted okay but our stomachs were in absolute shambles after. I'm not sure what was going on with the food but it took an eternity and was lukewarm upon arrival. Not sure if it's the quality of ingredients either but overall disappointing. They did give us a little discount for it taking too long and that's the only reason they don't have one star.

In one word amazing!!!!!! Yes the food was that good. We dined here last night in conjunction with our arrival to Open Sky. I have rarely had the perfect meal. This is one of those times. The perfect meal! From the Elote Eggroles to the Gnocchi special. The gnocchi plate layered a cream corn polenta base topped with bacon cut in the perfectly sized cubes of deliciousness than topped with a fried gnocchi. Oh and wait to my husband's burger. Insanely delicious. The fries that accompanied the burger were the best fries I've had ever!!!! I mean that ever!!! The black cherry cream craft soda was soo good. We chose to eat inside. It was nice with the ac going. It's a small space but simple and comfortable. The star that stole the show was their chef!!!! Such a nice southwest infused take on farm to table food fit for a discriminating foodie.

I wish I could give 6 stars because this was a dunking experience above the rest. NOTE: 1. Make a reservation 2. You will have to drive on an unpaved road to get there, so be careful. 3. We ate inside and I would recommend that if mosquitoes like you. The view is still spectacular. The food was PHENOMENAL. Pasta like I've never had it; it had to be freshly made there. The Trout cakes were flavorful, moist, but held their shape; they were better than any crab cake (and I adore crab). The server was kind and accommodating. It was a dining experience in the midst of the most beautiful scenery (watch the video). I would return time and time again.

Nothing too crazy, but they have multiple solid entree. I ordered the stuffed jalapeños as appetizers to start and I don't know why but I expected to be breaded. Let's just say I did not read the description. Still good, but phew it was seriously spicy, so come prepared. The jalapeños came out so quick even the person serving us was surprised, no complaints there. It came so quick I didn't even get beer yet. For the main I went with the 3 for $23: chicken enchiladas, al pastor tacos, and the wagyu tacos. None of them disappointed. The standout was the crunch the veggies had in the tacos, it really elevated the whole bite. Going in, I wasn't expecting San Diego-style tacos, and that's the right mindset to have. These are Tex-Mex tacos done well on their own terms. Ambiance was really chill when we got there we beat the crowd and it had a relaxed, laid-back vibe. By the time we left the parking lot was completely packed, looked like there wasn't a single spot available. Glad we got there when we did.

Food was average as we enjoyed the Curry Bowl, more than the angel hair pasta with chicken pistachio (see my pics). Curry had a good spice to it, veggies were fresh and good portion size that was sharable.
