Went to Black Rock Coffee for the first time last week and left feeling a little underwhelmed. I ordered an iced matcha and it just wasn't my favorite. It wasn't very sweet and had a slightly sandy texture that I couldn't get past. We also ordered ahead, but didn't realize you have to check in when you arrive. My husband waited for a bit before going up to the window, only to find out the drink had been sitting there for a while. That part was a little frustrating and definitely something I wish we'd known. That said, there was a line out the door, so clearly people love it. I'm thinking I may have just ordered the wrong thing. I'd be open to going back and trying one of their coffee drinks instead. read more

First skip this place and head down the street. It was recommended to me by a person at another coffee shop as a "decent" place to get a coffee. Stopped in because I needed a place to work for a couple hours and it was close to where I was. Espression is BITTER!!!!! Only took a few drinks of my drink and dumped it. place is great to work out of, staff was nice, music playing but not overbarring. if you need a place to work...good stop. if you are looking for a great espresso drink, this is NOT it. read more

This is officially my new obsession. I had never tried Black Rock before, but heard of it many times. I thought, "It's probably just another basic coffee shop." I was wrong. If you like fun coffee drinks and good food, this place is for you. I love sweet coffee, so I got the rocky road coffee freeze and it was so good. Exactly the amount of chocolate and sweetness I wanted. They also have energy drinks and so many other fun flavors of coffee, like pumpkin spice and Smores. My coffee only took a couple minutes to get on a Sunday around noon. We went in-store to order, so we parked in the parking lot. There is a ton of outdoor and indoor seating. The spot here is super nice, I think the only thing "wrong" would be how busy it is but that just shows how popular it is. The workers are really nice and the vibe of the place is super chill. Slow, made other drinks of people that came in behind me, made a hot drink iced, and then acted rude! The barista said "yep" to us when we were asking questions, and when I said we had been standing there for quite awhile said "well what is your name, I've made a lot of drinks." In town in part for a work trip, we needed strong wifi. Yelp led us to Black Rock Coffee Bar since it was a shorter drive from Papago Park where we hiked. Black Rock Coffee Bar has a full coffee menu, including tea and other non-coffee drinks. After our hike, we enjoyed the passion fruit green iced tea. So refreshing! They have an indoor space with tables and a few outlets and an outdoor patio with tables (but no outlets). Service is friendly and the space is kept clean. They have two locked unisex restrooms. Me and my girlfriend got this while visiting Arizona for a new years rave. We both got the Iced Mexican Mocha and it was so good. It had a really good mix between coffee and sweetness. If you like more coffee taste just add more but we thought it was amazing. If we had one near California we would definitely come more often. We went through the drive thru, so we didn't get to see inside but the service was quick and nice. Worth a try! read more

The vibe here is awesome. I live a few blocks away and am thrilled to have a good coffee shop a few minutes walk near me.

The order box was out of service, so we drove up to the window, as we made our way up there we were confronted by a barista, and she was very passive aggressive and gave us an attitude when we had asked for one of our drinks to be made extra thick and had told us ( we can try) . I understand as a barista myself that we get tired and get out of character, but you do work in a customer service job and should be more careful about faces you make when customers are at the window and leaving the window open. read more

Asked for light ice and the girl at the window still put a ton of ice in the drink. To top it off, I asked for caramel flavor and I swear it tastes as if they didn't even put one full pump of flavor in it. Not even a half, all I taste is very bitter coffee. For $6.32 I got over iced coffee that's gonna be watered down and taste like straight black coffee my first and last time going to this place. Husband went to use the men's restroom after ordering, no toilet paper in the stalls, placed his phone on top of the paper towel dispenser to pull out a paper towel to use because of no toilet paper being provided, the top of the dispenser was not locked falls open and shatters his whole screen. Nice coffee place with tables and room to hang out. Sandwich and coffee were great. They could use some kind of labels or announcing what order is what. They just put the orders out and you have to figure out which is yours or ask. I'm sure it's fine if you're a regular and know what's what. I come here about 3 to 4 times a week and last night, I got a blackout, I've had it before at a different location and it was great. But this time all I could taste was chocolate and more chocolate. No coffee or expresso at all. So I couldn't finish it. I mean I tried little by little, considering I work overnights, but nope I ended up throwing it away. The girl was really nice, and sweet as always. Not sure I'll be back in a while. Update: I went on the website and paste and copied this review and I got a free drink and an apology which I appreciate. This place has always been so good, the drinks the service and the people. I am not sure what has happened but lately the drive through is so so so slow. It even has a sign to just pull forward and order at the window. 20+min at the drive through. The first time this happened I assumed they were short staffed and it was just for that day. Nope, it's been at least a week. This is in the mornings I am not sure how it is in the PM. I left for the second time in the last week bc I just don't have the time. I love this black rock! Drinks and service are always great and I will be returning! Leaving this review because there are so many flies anywhere you sit and it is very annoying since I go there for a few hours at a time during my break in classes and when I'm trying to get work done the flies are constantly swarming you no matter where you sit. Hot Mess! There was one poor guy who knew what was happening but the other two female employees were awful. I waited about ten minutes for my online order before the guy asked to see the order and started to made the drink. A blonde female employee handed me the wrong drink then dismissed me when I tried to say it was wrong. I went to the register to ask a different dark haired girl for the correct drink and she had a public meltdowon. Grabbing her head and waving her arms grumbling "I Don't KNOW!" Yikes. Coffee is ok, vibe is good, but every time I'm there I'm absolutely harassed by flies. It's getting to be a dealbreaker.

The people are nice but they are playing club music and it's really hard to focus. Loud rap music I can hear over my headphones, the bass is very prominent. It's not a bar. Play softer music and turn the volume down. read more

Coffee makes you smarter. It's true! Coffee has a psychoactive stimulant which when reacts with the body, has the ability to improve energy, mood, cognitive functioning and thus makes you smart over a period of time! Not a stranger to Black Rock Coffee but not exact a frequent customer either, I popped by after seeing Karen W's photo of a Root Beer White Mocha Chiller. In my head, I was imagining a drink that was a mix between a melted root beer float and some coffee. While that wasn't anything near what I got, it wasn't bad! It tasted more like a creamy latte with a faint root beer taste on the back. We also got a S'mores Cold Brew and that was even better. I went through the drive-thru at this location so I can't comment on the atmosphere of their lobby but if they're like all their other locations, I'm sure it's clean and chill inside. So come on by Black Rock Coffee Bar if you want a decent cuppa. My drink surely gave me issues sleeping so props to the caffeine level! read more

Just call me the Minister of Root Beer White Mocha Chillers. That's right, I think I've converted a small group of folks here to the deliciousness of this drink! I went with some friends and all three of us ordered it. The mochas were made in a short amount of time and we had our pick of the spacious indoor setup or the shaded patio. The patio is nice in that there are several tables of regular and bar type seating available. There are no misters though but it was OK because it was mild for an AZ summer that day. The medium size was just right for me and it had a mild root beer flavor that was balanced out well with the creamy coffee and white chocolate flavors. It was refreshing and we had fun chatting outside while sipping our drinks. The only real negative was that over time there was a really strange funk emanating from the bathrooms that seemed to leach out to the outdoor area. It's no fun hanging out on a patio when all you smell is sewer! read more

I don't think their coffee is the best in the valley. For example, the Mexican mocha is too sweet. But I love their smoothies a lot! The wild berries smoothie is the best, with the savory flavor. It's a great place to get some work done. Just be aware that the music is loud if you're sensitive! read more
