The Black Pear is the best addition to Barrington since the Public Library was opened. I know, that may sound like hyperbole, but it is so nice to have a quality cafe in town. They feature a delicious menu of sandwiches, a great selection of prepared foods, Seven Stars bread, pastries, and to add the icing on top, locally produced artisan foods. Try their Danliele Inc sandwich for lunch, or the short rib grilled cheese. Their grilled chicken avocado bacon and BLTA are also excellent. For breakfast, they serve a fried egg sandwich that sings as well as breakfast tacos, huevos rancheros, etc. I have been there a number of times and universally had good experiences. The prices are appropriate for what you get, but also for Barrington. Bottom line, this place is the cafe I have been hoping for since I moved to Barrington years ago. Very nice addition to Barrington. Fresh local foods from all over RI. Order food to go or sit in and dine. Cool friendly staff and great indie music for ambiance. Real glass plates and cloth napkins defy the chill vibe. Breaks and pastries from Seven Stars bakery and a whole assortment of local fresh fruits and veggies to take home with you. My wife had the French toast which came with warm syrup and cinnamon butter. Simple but good. I had the fried egg sandwich which had fontina cheese, bacon, arugula on a brioche bun. I've had that twice now. It's pretty good and you don't feel guilty when you are done. My mother in law had the grilled squash and corn omelet which is placed on top of a nice little salad. I'm not an omelet guy but she said it was nice. But! The omelet came with a side of toast. Oh man, the toast! Thick, buttery and well... toasty! Come for breakfast or lunch and you'll be glad you did. Quick-ish and delicious. Next time I'm going for the huevos rancheros. I've seen it... it's true... Grabbed dinner to go tonight. Had a chicken sandwich and short rib sandwich. Sides were watermelon salad, orzo salad and kale and quinoa salad. The sandwiches were nice and moist and the 7 stars bread really makes a difference. The sandwiches both had good spices added and we're not blsnd at all, very home made feeling. I had an arnold palmer to drink, which was ok, but but very flavorful. The menu is small- a board of pastry, a board of 5 breakfast items and a board of 5 sandwiches. They have almond and soy milk alternatives for coffee. The atmosphere is interesting. It does not have too many seats and had more of arestaurant cafe feeling than a come grab coffee and stay a while feeling. I wouldn't recommend this for kids at all. Prices were fair. Sandwiches were around $11 and came with a small side. The chicken sandwich had a big breast in it, plenty for dinner. The short rib was not as packed, could have used a little more meat. I will go back and continue to try some more items...but I will have to bring my own coconut milk. read more

First impressions when you walk in are WOW! It's so modern, fresh and clean with ample seating. Cases filled with delicious baked goods. The menu is clear to read! I saw the specialty was pumpkin latte with homemade sauce so I opted for a small. I was quite taken a back at the price $5.45 for a 12oz. latte. It was however heavenly, clearly made with fresh pumpkin. While waiting for my latte I looked around, many local products to choose from. I will come again, but only as a treat as the prices are really high. Also they had a wide array of sandwich options that looked tasty but their prices were $11-$12 which is a bit steep for an on the go sandwich shop. I recommend trying this place if you're in the area as it's good quality ingredients, but be prepared for a steep check! read more

What a cute lil spot to grab a latte or bite to eat! We met a friend here for breakfast and I started off with a winter spice latte. It was delicious! I also got the Two Eggs Your Way - chourico hash, bacon, toast. Unfortunately, the bacon was missing and writing this review reminded me that I never actually got the bacon. The chourico hash was out of this world. It was cooked perfectly. My eggs were perfectly runny giving the fish the moisture it needed! This place is incredibly good. Great lattes, french toast, breakfast sandwiches and more. The lunch is amazing as well. The music is set at just the right volume and the place is bright, clean with plenty of parking. If there were more places like The Black Pear, the world would be a better place. My only complaint is that they don't have anything with pears in it, despite the name. read more

I can't believe this actually happened.....I cannot make this type of thing up! So we had a bad experience at this place almost a year ago and I vowed not to return. However, time heals all wounds and we didn't feel like going to Seekonk this evening, so my wife was gracious enough to go to the black pear to order/pick up dinner. When she arrived she was informed that they were out of "almost everything" due the big weekend they had. Ok, I suppose you can deal with the fact that they can't plan their ordering properly, but whatever. Here's the kicker....my wife ordered me a grilled chicken sandwich with cheese only on ciabatta. When she got home I opened the box and saw a huge slab of mozzarella cheese on both half's. I assumed when I pulled the two pieces of bread apart there would be chicken below the cheese......well we all know what happens when you assume!! Yep, I basically got a grilled cheese sandwich, no chicken. How does this place stay afloat when they can't even get this simple sandwich correct? Well, this was the last chance for these folks. This cafe was very cute and had some great local fresh ingredients. We stopped by on our Barrington weekend. They took great care to abide by the covid precaution rules. I had the avocado toast and my husband had The Barrington meal. We were happy and satisfied with our purchases. The avocado toast had a yummy "avocadaise" which provided the right amount of salty sour zing to it! My husbands eggs were poached nicely. I also got one of their knead donuts. I tried the toffee kind. It was more dense than most donuts and really delicious! The latte I had with it was perfect. I would recommend this spot but know that it was a little pricey. Yes it's pricey but oh so good! Today had the tomato bisque and a slice of lavender berry bread that was luscious. The lemonade drinks come in different flavors. This place is awesome, the atmosphere is a mix of modern and country and the food is amazing. I have tried the French toast and omelette and can say with confidence that I would most likely enjoy anything in their menu. The reason for the 3 stars: the pastry "case" is really just a glass wall and tho I normally could care less about these things when I walked in there was a fly crawling on all the pastries. To make matters worse, the staff member saw it and lazily swatted in its general direction. When it wouldn't vacate the area she simply turned away from it to help me!!! What? Black Pear is a cute cafe that is a welcomed addition to the Barrington lunch scene. The interior is quaint and inviting, and they have a standard selection of pastries, soups, sandwiches and salads to chose from. I've had lunch here at least 4 times and everything I've tried has been decent: burger, chicken bacon sandwich, grilled cheese with tomato bisque, black bean soup... Sandwiches come with a side which is usually some sort of bean or grain salad you pick and is served in a 2 oz ramekin. My husband always orders something a little healthier, like a salad or vegetarian sandwich and usually ends up nibbling on my picks a bit. I've gotten a few pastries as well, and I think this is something they need to work on. They look pretty in the case, but the scones have been dry and the apples tart was kind of empty feeling. The dishes are generally $10-12, and is pay at the cashier and take a number. Quality is what you would expect at this type of cafe. Sandwiches made on artisanal bread, random greens scattered in the soup. Quantity is sufficient. Silverware comes wrapped in cloth napkins. The service has generally been swift and friendly. For a couple of bucks more per entree, I'd probably prefer to go to Table for the full service and more complete entrees. However, for varieties sake, we'll keep coming back. read more

The Good:. The place is beautiful inside and very clean. The placement of all the locally sourced good is done with an almost artistic touch. It was midweek at about 5:45 when we placed our order. It took awhile to decide from their amazing selection that we completely forgot about drinks. I quickly settled for water but my girlfriend's 9 year daughter needed to view the selection. The cashier however seemed to be in a bit of a rush and cashed me out while we were still deciding on drinks. Thankfully she let us have the juice the 9 year old decided on. That was nice if her and I looked over the rush to cash us out. While waiting for our food to come out we received the universal sign "we are about to close, get out". The lights to the deli were shut off. Considering the rush at the register and now prep to go home I started questioning myself what they close. I hate to be that person to keep the kitchen open beyond closings. It was only 5:50 and I confirmed in my phone they close at 7pm. This kinda sucked because I really wanted to enjoy the expensive dinner. I agree with others on here as well. Prices are expensive. My meal of short rib grilled cheese, tomato bisque soup and a kids Mac and cheese with a bottle of water came to 36 dollars. I think the prices are adjusted for the median income of the area With all that the food was delicious and the service was very polite. Super duper yummy. The inside is not only aesthetically pleasing but also contains some delicious goodies inside. Came for a lunch breakfast(brunch?) and it was so good. I had a croissant with cheese, egg and bacon. The egg was overeasy and literally oozed with every bite. The bacon was in long strips that were grilled to perfection.
