    The BP
    Karla M.

It was my friend's birthday and I wanted to take us somewhere new for breakfast. It is in a plaza, which made parking a lot easier. When we arrived, we weren't sure what their system was in terms of ordering so we observed for a little and figured out that you place your order at the counter and then they bring the food out to you. They have a comprehensive menu - sandwiches, burritos, omelettes, breakfast plates, salads and soups - and the best part is that they serve breakfast and lunch all day. My friend ordered the huevos rancheros and I ordered the BP. I was a bit disappointed with my "choirico hash" since it was more of potato and chourico chunks mixed. However, the bacon was yummy, with the perfect amount of crisp. I ordered sourdough as my bread, my eggs were perfectly over medium, and the potatoes were soft on the inside but crispy on the outside. However, I was a bit jealous of my friend's huevos rancheros. The presentation was pretty but the combination of flavors was excellent. The bean patty was soft, and well seasoned. The avocado was ripened to perfection, the potatoes were good, and I loved the chipotle aioli so much I ordered a little side of it for my potatoes. I would highly recommend the huevos rancheros for a balanced, colorful, and tasty breakfast. Since it wasn't too busy we got our food after about 10-15 minutes. They have a few tables outside under the shade for 2 people each, but there are more options inside. The bathroom is cute. Their staff is friendly and efficient.

Great little spot with friendly staff. Indoor and outdoor seating. Sat outside. You order at counter and they bring everything to you. Got a salad with chicken-good but for $21 should've been a bit bigger. Also got a ginger turmeric latte which was very weak.

My friend who lives in Barrington brought me as part of a tour of the town. The coffee here (from New Harvest) is INCREDIBLE. Probably the best coffee I have had in months. I am very devoted to Starbucks but I'm definitely returning here over Starbucks anytime I am in the area. I had a large soy latte which was served in a delightful large mug similar to the French bol, but with a handle. I also had the feta frittata which was a good portion size and tasty but could have been warmed a little longer. The gluten free apple cider mini donuts were highly recommended by my friend and were amazing! Would definitely recommend these! Their bathroom is weirdly claustrophobic-y and small but the cafe ambiance is nice and I did appreciate that they had a nice purse hook in the super tiny bathroom. Can't wait to return here for some more coffee!

We've pretty much been coming here regularly especially Covid mainly for their avocado toast. Tried it at different places and theirs is the best. They also have a great selection of donuts and cinnamon sugar donut balls. Good spot for bfast in Barrington.

Black Pear is a quaint coffee shop/cafe in Barrington, RI. The drinks are good and the food, while on the pricey side, is delicious and filling. I was very impressed with my sweet potato toast. I'd never had anything like it, and would definitely order again. The staff is fine: not overly friendly, but also not neglectful.

Tucked in a not-so-noticeable strip shopping center that we call Prince's Hill, this farm to table joint has an interesting collection of breakfast and lunch fare. The space is open and clean, reminding of barn theme trendy food places. Came here for Sunday brunch. What do I do when you roll out of bed? Coffee! The coffee was very good here. Thank you for that. I tried black bean huevos rancheros. This is a good vegetarian option and not bad rendition of meat based cousins. I thought the seasoning of the black bean burger was spot on. Not too salty, not too spicy. As you can see from the photos of the cold prepared food platters, there are few other choices. I have to come back here again for lunch to try out their specials.

    Excellent coffee!

My nephew who goes quite often to Black Pear introduced me during a recent trip to Barrington. I was impressed with the ambiance, the friendliness of the staff and the flavor of the coffee. I did not eat anything but my nephew recommends their baked goods which I plan to sample next visit!

Stopped in for my Iced Coffee and stayed for brunch. My wife got the Watermelon and Goat Cheese Salad, which she really enjoyed. I got the Eggs Benedict. I substituted he Kale for Avocado (at their suggestion when I said I didn't want the Kale). The eggs were poached correctly and had a great yolk run when broken. The Hollandaise was a spicy Avocado version which was great. The chourico Sausage was flavorful and added to the overall taste of the dish and it was served on great wheat break from Olga's ( love the collaboration with others).

Tt has everything you'd want from a great coffee shop: comfortable seating, plenty of room to spread out and work, a rentable conference room, and something you would not expect from a coffee shop, the Aurora Bar, stocked with a nice selection of local spirits and other favorites. My partner and I stopped in for a quick nibble for lunch on Sunday and this was perfect. My partner went with the Caprese sandwich, which is served on a pressed ciabatta with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, spinach, pesto mayo, and balsamic. It was simple and tasty, and I was lucky enough to get a couple bites! I went with the Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap, which was also simple, but packed with flavor. It had all the obvious ingredients with the addition of pickles, which added such a nice briny little punch and really hit the spot. Something worth noting: both of our items were ordered from the laminated menu at the register, not in the beautiful leather-bound Aurora Bar menu, which appears to be an evening menu with cocktails and other tasty food items. For drinks, I went with an espresso tonic; the slight bitterness of the quinine plays really nicely against the bold espresso, and it's one of those combinations that's refreshing in a way that's hard to explain until you try it. One small note for the team: the Riverside location has always had a real warmth and cohesion to the staff that I haven't quite felt at Bristol. It's not a dealbreaker by any stretch, but a little more energy behind the counter would go a long way. Still a five-star spot, as the coffee and the space more than make up for it.

The vibes were great, there was plenty of room for our party (we had 7 of us), and it didn't feel crowded at all despite the number of people that were in the coffee shop. It is rare…read morefor a modern business to bring glamour to a timeless community without making the establishment feel overdressed. In a region defined by salt air, stone walls, and inherited understatement, Groundswell gives the landscape a beautiful new chapter. I have been coming to this part of Rhode Island and Massachusetts for close to four decades, and its magic has always been its refusal to perform. Little Compton, Tiverton, and Westport have an old New England intelligence: practical, coastal, and allergic to excess. The mood is L.L.Bean utility, Patagonia values, and Helly Hansen competence, with a little yacht club literacy and none of the theater. Groundswell respects that world, then adds candlelight, espresso, and French mischief. There is practical brilliance in having a venue this chic nearby, because city slickers inevitably visit, and family members must sometimes be kept happy even when their taste tests our patience. The cafe is the heart of the experience for me. The building was previously The Provender, which we loved, and Groundswell deepened our fondness for that chapter rather than simply replacing what came before it. There is a French ease to the venue, patio, and food, as though someone raised between Paris and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat came to New England, fell hard for its privacy, then built the dream cafe they wished existed. It has continental polish, but the soul is still Rhode Island. Even when the cafe is busy, it works beautifully. The line moves through the building in an intuitive U-shaped flow, showing that someone thought carefully about summer traffic while preserving intimacy. The food comes quickly, but not instantly, and that distinction matters; do not come here in a rush. I am hazy on the full menu, but the yogurt parfait, cinnamon toast, and Caesar salad have stayed with me, and I am pretty sure someone in my family had a turkey and pesto sandwich that looked exactly right. The pace is deliberate, and the point is to savor the coffee, the patio, and people-watching. The pricing feels appropriate, especially for a seasonal business with only a few intense months to make the year work. Nothing feels careless here, which is rare for an experience built so carefully around atmosphere. That sense of intention is what makes it feel polished without becoming stiff. I deeply respect seeing David on site in early July. He is the designer, owner, and operator I recognize as the face of the business, though I am sure many talented people are involved. He is warm, kind, and hands-on, with experience and wisdom evident in a subtle, understated way. He embodies Groundswell's soul and upholds the brand standard in person without making it feel rigid. The broader Groundswell property also makes the whole experience feel original. The shops and garden spaces are intensely charming, with a level of discernment that makes you slow down and look harder. The home goods, gardening pieces, and table settings are so tasteful that I always leave thinking I would be thrilled to have David and his team design my home. I can imagine that eye in the city or near the beach, and just as easily in a country house or alpine retreat. What Groundswell brings to this community is the perfect amount of change. This region is timeless, but every timeless community benefits from careful progress when sprinkled with respect, proportion, and self-awareness. I have not yet been to David's Bristol restaurant, The Franklin, but after seeing the pride he pours into Groundswell, I want to go soon. I do not know the full Groundswell Design Group portfolio, but I suspect this Tiverton project is a crown jewel: something he loves deeply, almost like a child, and the culmination of decades of work, research, and self-criticism; it gives this community French flair, northeastern discernment, and a welcome venue to gather: Très bien!

But no matter where you land a seat, you'll enjoy the food fare. My peep's go-to's are the Croque Monsieur for breakfast or lunch and the Waygu Roast Beef. But we've also enjoyed the Egg White Veggie Wrap, quiche choices and the Turkey Pesto sando. All the sandwiches are on homemade breads, from baguettes and croisssants to buckwheats and ciabattas. Don't forget dessert!!!! We love the ginger molasses cookies when they are available in fall/winter, and chocolate croissants any time of the year!! Part of the fun of making the trip to Groundswell is exploring the gourmet kitchen store (Table & Provisions) next door and the home decor shop (Garden & Home) across the way.
