I made an appointment for Wednesday instead since that was the next time I was free. The guy who greeted me was very friendly. I let him know that I was interested in two helix piercings and he showed me the studs/rings that people typically get. I knew that I wanted rings (though beware: getting piercing with rings might make the healing process more annoying because the piercing can be irritated more easily) so I picked the surgical steel rings. (I don't remember if they were implant grade now though. I didn't react to the material anyway. For people looking to get pierced, you should double check that.) Chuck was both professional and very helpful. When he was marking the placement on my ears, he gave me a few choices and even suggested one combo over another. I was thankful for it because I have super tiny ears and I didn't want it to look too crowded. Nearly 5 months later, my piercings are perfectly fine. There was some irritation along the way (totally my fault, I'm fidgety...) and a little bump formed but I continued to do the suggested sea salt soaks and my piercings have healed beautifully. As for jewelry selections, I didn't take much time to browse, but it seemed like they had a good variety to choose from. Especially a great place for Rutgers students to get pierced since it's a brief walk from CAC to Easton Ave. I have a friend who's gone here twice -- once for a nose piercing and another for her own helix. I was not told it was bleeding or that it was irritated. Next thing I know there's blood dripping down my face in the car and I have to pull over. HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION. Patrons are required to wear masks, there is hand sanitizer clearly available, seats are wiped down in between sessions, and social distancing is practiced. So if safety is a concern from you, I think you will feel pretty safe here. I got my ears pierced and my best friend got a tattoo. I was scared to get my third piercing but Mike hit me with a motivational quote that changed my mind! "Pain is temporary" -- loved that but also, so true right?! After selecting the jewelry, I'm in the room with Elaine and everything was explained to me thoroughly. There was such a joyful warmth in how Elaine spoke that it completely relaxed me. A couple of deep breaths and I was expecting a pain level between 5-6 but believe it or not, it was like maybe a 1-2 and I think part of that is Elaine's experience with placement as well as her technique. I went back in to see if swapping out for a longer bar would fix the issue. I especially wanted to check it because I was going to be traveling to another country soon. The piercer I met with assured me that it was fine. It was not fine. Later that week, the jewelry started embedding in my skin (yes, it's as gross and horrifying as it sounds). I had to last minute find another piercer while in another country to get it checked. The piercer I went to said I needed to switch out for a longer bar, which is exactly the problem I had gone back to the studio for (this meant I had to pay another couple hundred for new jewelry as well). When she took out the jewelry that I had gotten at Black Moon, she literally gasped and said that she had never seen a professional piercer use such a short bar while the piercing was healing. As soon as it was switched out, it started healing fine. When I got back, I reached out to Black Moon to see if they could do anything to compensate me for the extra cost I incurred from their ignoring the issue with the bar in the first place. They haven't bothered responding. I came to Black Moon because of the glowing reviews, but my experience really doesn't align with them. I guess most of the reviews are about the initial experience of getting pierced (which honestly for me was also uncomfortable and rushed and the male piercer I had kept calling me sweetheart), but the most important factor for a piercing studio to me is how they handle issues when they arise.The jewelry is also really expensive - which I would've considered worth it to have a knowledgeable and experienced piercer - but that was not the case.

I had four ear piercings before I came to Black Moon Piercing and now I have 11 and am thinking on what my 12th and 13th should be. The additional piercings were all done at Black Moon Piercing and my favorite piercer: Brie! Brie is so kind and patient. She has a great sense of style on jewelry and where a piecing should be placed. She's also very open to feedback. When I wanted something slightly to the left or right, she has no problem adjusting. I haven't gone to any other studio because of her. The ear photos after the appointment always come out great. She's been helping me create a celestial earscape and I can't wait to see how my ears will turn out this year! This location has a good selection of jewelry and is very clean. Plenty of parking. I'm a huge fan of this location and will be coming back in February.
