The Black Frog benefits from a fantastic location, just down a side street from the Gastown Steam Clock, thus with each toot of its steamy, sweaty horn (i.e. every 15 minutes), you'll find yourself acutely aware of such temporal truths as: your wait time until being greeted and seated; the time it takes before someone comes to take your order, how long it takes to manifest tableside, the duration of your meal, and the interval until your check arrives. Great for customers; not so much for the servers! At times, I'm sure they feel the pressure as acutely as the water heating up in the pipes underground! Fortunately, the staff here at the Black Frog hop to it in an efficient, even if our particular server seemed a little green around the gills. A tadpole, if you will. Sadly, they were also out of some component required to make their signature cocktail, the Black Frog Raki, so I'm unable to croak about that specific beverage. They were similarly unable to concoct an Old Fashioned due to a shortage of another spirit, so I ended up with a Kentucky Mule, my wife with a Gin Martini, and an order of calamari split between us. Tragically, no frog's legs on the menu. Maybe that would have been a bit too on-the-nose (on-the-nares)? Alright, I'm sure you're all sick of the puns by now. Even though it's been a ribbeting review....dammit, I did it again. I'm sorry, I keep frogetting to be serious when writing these things. I'm no lily-pad-livered liar; you can de-pond on me! I promise, I'm kermitted to telling the truth, so no matter wart-ever else you take away from this review, remember this: the Black Frog serves nice croak-tails at reasonable prices...as long as all of their lick-er is in stock!

The food was amazing. I had the BLT and loved that they used the sourdough bread. They have a good selection of local craft beers and a quiet atmosphere. Highly recommended for date night. Service was good, we were served soon after we sat as we were starving. My boyfriend got the beef dip - hot from the kitchen and looked very juicy/tasty. Nice day out looking over the five sails and the ever popular steamclock in Gastown.

Best fish and chips I've ever had! They also have fun mocktails. It's a fun environment and service was attentive.

Again, I rarely give 5 stars, but I absolutely loved this place!! Our family had gotten into town late and we were hungry. It's a great location right next to the water. I'm sure the view during the day is awesome. Our server was so helpful and appropriately attentive which I really appreciate. Now the food: Highlights: Fish and Chips - we just got back from London and had fish and chips. Probably three times while we were there and these were better. The batter was fluffy and not soggy at all. The fish flakey. Would absolutely get again. Poutine - I know you can find poutine everywhere but these are some of the best we've ever had. The mushroom was absolutely key. Amazing flavor. Could not stop eating. Green Onion Pancake - could have used a little more onion flavor and the pancake a little flakier but it was solid and a welcome portion. Will absolutely be back.

Beef dip, sorry not the best pic.

Good atmosphere, great food, had the Beef dip... great. Bartender served up a beauty Caesar. Well worth a visit. Prices are good. Had a good time for my visit to Vancouver.

Pretty great place for pub food that is affordable. We had a few drinks here and fish and chips. The fish batter was fresh and the fries were crispy. Service was decent. I think in Gastown this is a great place to go to for good food, drink specials, and a friendly atmosphere for a decent price point. Not too fancy but great place to fill up your belly before a concert.

I'm 19 so I was very excited to go to Canada and order alcoholic beverages and this place was absolutely amazing to go to. The drinks were delicious and reasonable priced. My salmon burger was really yummy and my boyfriend loved his burger. Clean restaurant and decent service. It took them about 25 minutes to bring us our check after we finished eating but i understand that sometimes happens. Overall would come back!:)

The location is great as it's tight next to the Steam Light. Food can be described as higher end pub food. The prices for beer even during Happy Hour are steep running $6.75 -$9.00 for craft beers. My wife's Halibut and Chips was one the best she ever had. My Pork Schnitzel was cooked well but I found it lacked flavor and the portion size was too much. The accompanying side vegetables were awesome and tasted as if they were cooked on a smoked grill. Overall was a good experience but wished I ordered the Pierogi's.

Fun spot for food and drinks. The poutine was yummy In a great area to walk around and shop.I would definitely come back to Black Frog when in Vancouver.

I was planning on starting this review by saying "this place is underated..." but it is 4-stars on yelp, so I guess I am not the only one. Nothing fancy here, but a nice calm atmosphere to enjoy a few drinks and bites with friends. Slightly tucked away from water st, but still in view of the steam clock, you get to take in the usually tourist-filled gastown from the calmness of the bar while sipping a drink. How can that be bad?

Nice little pub with solarium seating and a nice casual environment. They have a great offering of local beers on tap, as well as bombers, bottles, and a full bar. I was excited to try the Yorkies, mini roast beef filled Yorkshire puddings. They were okay, but the roast beef seemed over cooked from reheating, and I couldn't taste the horseradish in the mayo. I would definitely come here again for a beer but would try another of their pub food offerings.

Possibly the worst lunch I've been served (service was excellent). The cabbage salad was inedible and mushroom soup bland.

Firstly when we arrived nobody greeted us for I would say about 10 minutes even though the place was quite empty when we arrived, and when we finally received a table we were seated at a table that was wobbly, and the menus we received were stained and sticky, which got me immediately on edge about hygiene and made me uncomfortable. For drinks selection - nothing special that you can't get anywhere else, and the place being quite empty the vibe was quite boring too. I just felt uncomfortable being there and there isn't anything special about this pub that you can't get better anywhere else. We finished the one drink that we got and headed elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend this spot.

This corner spot is neatly tucked away with a few outdoor seating spots, but the magic in itself is inside. The mix of vintage and old glam showcases the hybrid aesthetic. Perfectly described, The Ballyhoo definitely lives up to the over-the-top decor from their food offerings and styling. I managed to find myself arriving within happy hour and was super please I was able to bring my laptop out and get some work done without it causing anyone a fuss. The server I had was super friendly and she had all the tables she was handling in good spirit. After opting for a local draft beer and some bites, I kept over hearing how delicious the mozz sticks were. Now IDK how one levels up mozzarella sticks, but these truly were some of the best I've ever had. The dipping sauce was super spicy but bearable for anyone's heat preference and the breading and cheese inside had such a burst of flavor you wanted to simply inhale them. What had me in awe though was the cheese pull game. No need to fear about them being overdone not cooked enough, these babies were cooked to perfection with the cheese literally oozing out of each bite. I saw a few plates being served around and think this spot is definitely worth exploring.
