So.... could have been a much better experience. The food was great! I had the sausage platter and my gal had the chicken schnitzel. The schnitzel in particular was fabulous and both were fairly priced. No appetizer but we did have a basket of very tasty hot rolls. I had an issue with the menu. My menu had a 13 oz draft beer listed for $4.50 and a 16 oz beer listed for $6.50. I opted for the better value and ordered a 13 oz beer for both me and my gal (2 beers). Server responded that the small beer is no longer available and the menu is incorrect. Ok, ordered 1 16 oz beer for the higher price. A Very skinny (albeit tall) glass arrived with a 2 inch head on it (traditional for German beer). I know my beers ..... no way a 16 oz tall boy would fit in that glass. I suspect they kept the 13 oz glasses and kept the 16 oz price. So, I got about 10 oz (deducting for the 2 inch head) draft for $6.50. That is ballpark pricing without a game! The service has the earmarks of a family owned restaurant. The young server was over her head trying to handle the 7 tables that were seated. One bus boy helped a bit but it would have been great to have someone check back in after the food was delivered. No more bread, no offer of another overpriced beer. I will try it again on a busier night ( maybe another server will be on). read more

I asked if they had a specialty mustard (süße Senfe) and the proprietor said he'd ensure he had it next time I came - I thought he was kidding. Sure enough, a couple months later when I asked if he had it - sure enough - he did. That's five stars right there. The food is very good and very authentic and they have three quality German beers on draft. So what more can you ask for. It's great and I'm going to come more often. read more

We had a delightful meal at Black Forest restaurant tonight! The service was impeccable and they graciously accommodated us our request to move our large party from inside tables to outdoors After we had been seated indoors. Every bit of the food was delicious. The serving portions are so large that we felt like we were getting a "two for one"dinner with plenty to bring home. Since we sampled a little bit of everything amongst our party of nine people, I can highly recommend the pork, the sausages, the potato pancakes, the red cabbage, the Oktoberfest platter. I was a little worried when we first walked in. The waiter looked at us as if to ask, "why are you here?" After he realized we were customers, we were seated and the place looked like what you might consider to be authentic German. We tried the schnitzel of beef. The dinner was $23.95 which might seem a bit much, but, it included salad or soup, dinner with two sides, bread, and a small bowl of delicious German potato salad and cole slaw. Wait, there's more...dessert!!! The creamed spinach was great, so we're the mashed potatoes. The rice pudding topped the dinner off perfectly! Located in a strip mall, it's pretty unassuming from the exterior. It's tiny. 3 tables outside and only 10 inside. There's a special Brunch menu on Sunday so I cannot review for other than that. I enjoyed the Wiener schnitzel. The red cabbage was really the best thing on the plate. Schnitzel was good but a little tough. The Kaiser Schmaren was delicious but cloyingly sweet. We were pleasantly welcomed and seated in this small storefront restaurant. We had sausages and spaetzels for an appetizer; they were very good with our Heferwiesen drafts. For entre my wife had pork Wiener schnitzel; my wife requested potatoes with entre. I had the veal liver. Enters were excellent but filling. Just enjoying a nice late afternoon/evening at this restaurant. We have been in the area, so we dropped in. The owner and his staff have been very friendly, They took their time for a little chit-chat about Germany. Nice not to be pushed and we enjoyed this part a lot. The menu is due to covid a little bit reduced but you should find something to enjoy, e.g. some schnitzel variations, the famous German Weisswurst and more. My wife and I eat a Black Forest salad with a wonderful dill curry vinaigrette. We added a Jägerschnitzel and a Gipsy Schnitzel and couldn't resist to take home (out) an apple strudel. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the dinner we had at Black Forest. Our party was a large one. About ten people. The beer was excellent, the food was 'close your eyes and grin' delicious. My wife had the meat plate and I had the Jaegerschnitzel. I don't know what the chef does to make the pork so tender, but there wasn't a dry piece on my plate. I have never been so pleased with a plate of food in my life. Also, in reading the rest of the reviews, I noticed a reviews calling the place racist. Well, almost our entire party was hispanic and the service was impeccable! We even got to meet the chef! A somewhat mixed review of what appears to be an extremely popular restaurant. Sausages with sauerkraut were excellent, but a potato pancake was heavy and not too tasty. Wiener shnitzel was O.K., but not beyond that. An apple strudel for dessert was excellent. The restaurant in on the large side including the outside seating. Service was a bit strained and appeared understaffed. However the wait staff were very pleasant, and the owner is everywhere helping out. Easily the best German food I've had outside of Germany. I had the chicken schnitzel with peppercorn sauce, spaetzle and red cabbage. Nice drink menu and dessert (apple strudel and Black Forest cake for the table) were AMAZING!! Will definitely return, and our server was super friendly. read more

Something at BFM has changed and sadly it's not for the better. We've dined at BFM several times but usually avoid it during season as it is pretty tough to get in without a reservation. We made reservations and found the place to be half empty, and it was a Friday evening! After dining there this time, I think I know why it wasn't as full as usual. I'm guessing there has been a change of owndership. When you were seated and placed your order, you were given a nice basket of break (including pretzel rolls) with a delicious pate to smear. Sorry but the pate is gone. So are the dishes of cole slaw and potato salad that used to come with the meal. Also add in the free desert. All gone and replaced by nothing. Same prices as before, and our server seemed a little frazzled. The food itself was just ok, nothing spectacular like before, although the potato pancake appetizer was delicious! Since we have to pass another German-themed restaurant to get to BFM, I don't think we'll be back. read more

Great place with authentic German fare. We have visited them several times over the years when in Naples. Beer Braised Short RIbs, Sauerbraten and Wiener Schnitzel all delicious, as are the red cabbage and spaetzle side dishes. Don't forget to start with the potato pancake appetizer and end with the apple strudel, even if that means you need to bring home some of your entree for lunch the next day, LOL! Party of six included three first time customers, who all promised to return again. Owner and staff are friendly and attentive! Plus they take reservations, which is an added plus! P.S. This is one of our favorite restaurants for a filling meal. Keep in mind that pretzels are only available during Octoberfest time, if you really want a big German pretzel. We look forward to the delicious potato pancakes which will prevent you from eating your dinner if you aren't careful! We have had several items from the menu and all have been very German good! Started our meal on a recent visit with Potato Pancakes which were very good, especially with what appeared to be home-made applesauce. Our table ordered a variety of dishes. Everybody enjoyed their entrees, I got a chance to sample the sauerbraten and Veal schnitzel both were very good...the other diners with us enjoyed their entrees as well...not blown away by the sides though which were only ok. This is our favorite restaurant. Our waitress ,Kelly, gives impeccable service and is well acquainted with the menu and preparation of all the dishes. You will not get better in Germany because it is authentic, dishes made to order and at a very reasonable price. My husband I are " foodies' ,we are from New Jersey and go into NYC very often. I expected this to be much better and I probably won't return. We had veal wiener schnitzel and the mixed grill, a bottle of white wine and the apple strudel. Once the wine was poured the waiter said that, to keep it cold, he would put it in the refrigerator in the kitchen. But then he forgot about it and we had to ask to have our glasses filled, repeatedly. The strudel was excellent and apparently homemade in the restaurant. The spaetzel and red cabbage were also excellent. What was not excellent was most of the meat and the vegetables. The vegetables were mush. So over cooked that they had the texture of canned green beans. The lamb chops though ordered medium-rare, were tough and had no seasoning (I expected garlic at least). Same for the pork chop-hard as a rock and tasteless. The sausages were more tasty but dry, again due to overcooking. The veal was a little better but we agreed that we have had much better in a number of other restaurants. There aren't many German restaurants in Naples and our hopes were high but this was very average and, except for the strudel, I see no reason to hurry back. read more

Since last October 2014, chef Monica and her brother took over this darling German restaurant. The vibe is very relaxed. The service is perfect. The captains running the place are good Naples folks with a little local business. I always feel like supporting the ma/pa joints is best.. German beers-- loads of meat.. Great food and great fun! We were in Naples for a National Championship football tournament and stumbled upon the Black Forest while planning to eat at a neighboring restaurant. It was just after the dinner rush, so they were able to easily take our large group 20-25ppl. The chef, Claus, delivered dish after dish of authentic german foods cooked to perfection. The service was quick and friendly. Everyone in the group was surprised at how much fun it made the night to be treated like family at the Black Forest. Highly recommend. The food was quite good, the service was good. I would recommend BFM if you are in the mood for German. The rice pudding was a tad under cooked and the carrot cake was definitely store bought.
