We channeled our inner Bavarian and settled down for a nice German meal We started the feast with potato pancakes, smoked salmon, dill crème, and capers - yummy!! Did I mention we're just shy of swimsuit season? We each opted for a beer stein, pilsner and amber ale.... wunderbar!! The butchers platter was scrumptious enough to make this old bag shvitz, Fran and I were both refusing to put the fork down. We celebrated my husband's birthday here, as he loves German food. It was a wonderful experience. We started with a glass of wine and a wheat beer for him. It was served in a tall beer glass, with the namesake of the brewery, which he appreciated. Our apps were a white sausage, over white sauerkraut, and condiments. Delicious, but the mushroom bisque was the show-stopper. Decadent! We split the Chicken Piccata Schnitzel (we forgot to say we wanted to upgrade to veal). It came with red sauerkraut and spätzle. We rarely finish even a split meal, but this was too good to leave anything left. We had already finished the complimentary bread with the bisque and we had to restrain ourselves from running our fingers on the plates. ;) Our server was gracious, attentive and when I mentioned that we were celebrating my husband's birthday, a delicious apple strudel was brought, with a candle, ice cream and whipped cream. I've never been into German food but recently dined here with a group. We sat on the patio, which was nice. But the inside looked like it had a nice ambiance as well. I ordered the Goulash soup and thought it tasted excellent. The service was good too. read more

Excellent hidden gem that you probably drive by and not notice it is there . . . as I did for three years! We went on Father's Day and had an amazing meal, great service, and a quaint atmosphere. Inside and outside dining is available. If you have ever spent time in Germany, it will bring back great memories. In a time where we see so many reviews of restaurants that fail to deliver the anticipated experience at an expensive price, this is just the opposite. They over deliver and quite honestly, they could charge a lot more money for what you get. Tried this place on a Friday at 430. AM as not busy when we arrived but by the time we left it was full inside. Plenty of outdoor seating as well. Our server Chloe was very attentive and we were impressed with her! Service was wonderful! She brought drinks and kept them full all night. She brought bread right away as well. We got two rolls which were great and then two slices of sort sort of rye bread that as dense and dry and I couldn't eat it. Appetizer pretzel was great with three mustard options and we had the potatoe pancake, which was interesting but I'm not a fan. Seemed very greasy. (Best potatoe pancake in my life is across the road a bit at BLU JELLY.). My husband had goulash as well which he really enjoyed. He wished it would have had more in it, like egg noodles or potatoes and veggies. It was just broth and meat, and while very good, it lacked substance. I tried the sauerbraten. The wine Sauce was amazing, but the meat was pretty dry. It came with pickled red cabbage and spaetzle. Nothing extraordinary. The spaeztle was good with the sauce, but if you ask me that's the purpose of spaeztle, to finish the sauce! My hubby ordered a mixed grill platter that had two types of sausage, veal and two lamb chops. The lamb was great! And the veal was great! The sausage was very salty, so much so that he couldn't finish it. He said he'll stick to store bought bratwurst. So, overall, beer was good, pretzel was good, goulash was good, dinner we could leave, so it's likely we won't be back. But if you are a true lover of German food, it's worth a try for you! read more

Have an early dinner at Black Forest today at the Greentree Shopping Center by Immokalee Road. The temperature is in low 70's and little on cloudy side. We opted to dine inside instead the huge outside patio dining area. The ambiance is comfy with a few German artifacts and a large number of paintings cover the two walls. We started with nice cold Warsteiner Pilsner beer. A very refreshing pale golden pilsner with a perfectly balanced hints of barley malt, fermenting yeast and mild hoppy bitterness. Love that beer! Warm breads were served. Friend ordered the Jager schnitzel which was delicious and I opted for a sauerbraten. The wine sauce was perfect complement to the marinated beef. One word to describe this dish, flavorful! They were served with red cabbage and spätzle which were very good. The homemade apple strudel with a cream and vanilla ice cream is final act for the dinner. The staff is friendly and helpful! If you like German food, Black Forest is a place for you, from the red cabbage to the Apple Strudel. read more

Very authentic German food. We shared the hot pretzel -yummy mustards. The jaeger schnitzel (pork) was excellent with the red cabbage and spatzel. I had the German sausage dinner. There last night for the first time with our friend. The outdoor patio was pleasant to sit at and talk. A nice setting even it were raining. It would have been too noisy inside although the setting inside was very nice and comfy looking. The prices were very reasonable for everything. Our server Pepe was very professional, helpful with the menu. My Hungarian Beef Goulash was very good. Enjoyed it. The red cabbage also very good but the spaetzle wasn't what I was used to. Tiny pieces, mostly dry, not creamy. I enjoyed the potato pancakes appetizer WITH my dinner. Ask for more applesauce. One side of it wasn't enough. Our friend's Chicken Parisienne she said was amazing. Loved it. As she also did her wine choice. Greuner Veltiner, a white wine. My wife's Zigeuner Schnitzel, she said wasn't exciting. The veal cutlet was tough and too much red pepper cream sauce that clashed with the red cabbage for taste. Also used to a creamier style spaetzle. We were pleasantly surprised to hear from our server that the Apple Strudel will be on the house! That was unexpected. And everything about that dessert was great. We were each given a plate of it. Very nice!!!! Looking forward to coming back wanting to try different dishes. Lots there to try. Enjoy your time there. If interested in talking a lot, may want the outdoor patio. If liking the setting a lot inside, that's enough reason to dine there. I'll try that the next time. Another note. I asked that the entrees no come out too quickly. Would like to enjoy the salad. Here for the big birthday celebration. A bit disappointing, but excellent staters and beer. Service was initially good, but slowed significantly as the evening wore on and there were fewer customers. Waiters, busgirls, and hostess were friendly and efficient, but I did have to order my second beer. The staters were excellent; I had the goulash soup and the pate. The soup was fantastic and took me back to my time in Hungary. The pate was great and the accompanying bread, delicious and substantial, a light color pumpernickel. My main course was the Black Forest Chicken, which was slightly overcooked. The beer was excellent, Krombacher Pilsner. Also had the Black Cherry cocktail, sweet and refreshing. Will I go again? Not certain, maybe next year for the birthday or for Oktoberfest. Hopefully there will be more attention to detail on the other main dishes. read more

Staff still pleasent. Sorry to say just the bread and butter were good. Beef short rib dried out, the flavorless brown gravy couldn't help it. Tried salt, but it didn't help. Spatzel and red cabbage were good. But remember spatzel doesn't by itself have a lot of flavor. It would be the sauce on it that really counts. Unfortunately, the non discript bland brown gravy did nothing for them. Salmon way overcooked. The sauce bland and too much corn starch. It just made the dish look cloudy. Pork schnitzel tough. Apple strudel needed more apple flavor. Plus it was too pasty and dry. Whipped cream and ice cream could not moisten it. Just one large disappointment. No reason to ever return. read more

Mrs. K. said she was not going to eat anything for supper, and I could go anywhere i wanted. I said let's go to the German Place. Mrs. K. is not a German food type of girl. So many choices of schnitzel. Their online menu does not show all the schnitzel they offer. The schnitzel is offered with chicken and for an upcharge veal. I ordered the veal I know it was made to order because I could hear the chief pounding the veal! It came with spaetzle, sweet pickled red cabbage with lingenberry and a hunter sauce. I liked the hunter sauce. Almost forgot they will add an egg for $2 more. Didn't really want the egg as I didn't know what it would add to the meal. But I got the egg and as I thought didn't add anything to the meal.
