My partner and I have a big appetite so we ordered way more than the average person, and still paid less than any other dinner we've had in Naples so far. My husband and I decided to try Mimoto after he was lured in by a Facebook ad. After reading the mostly positive reviews, we headed over there. It was around lunchtime on a weekday. The restaurant was empty aside from one other table. Entering the restaurant and taking a look behind the bar, we noticed a toaster oven and a microwave. We did not seem to notice an actual kitchen. We were seated immediately and we checked out the menu. Not your typical Japanese menu but, we are adventurous and we chose a couple of dishes to try. We both ordered a sprite. We were brought two glasses with ice and two, unopened cans of Sprite. Classy? For the cost of lunch for two here, I think not. Oddly, the restaurant does not give you free rein over your own soy sauce. Instead, they give you the little dish and they pour a little bit in it at the table then take it away. Interesting. We ordered the chicken yakitori appetizer. This comes as three skewers. Unfortunately, the cut of chicken they used was mostly fat globs and had a strange, chewy texture. $16. Not a fan. I ordered the sake salmon maki. It was made with brown rice and had little crunchy round bits on the top. It included a little ginger and about a dime-sized amount of wasabi. The sushi was good. Different, but tasty. But, $18 for a 6 piece roll. Lofty. My husband ordered the hon maguro tuna carpaccio. This dish is basically 8 thinly sliced pieces of tuna sashimi with a balsamic glaze drizzled over it. Good, but not worth almost $30. Again, way overpriced. The service was lacking and lazy, making us wait longer than necessary for our check and a little annoying by leaving us a business card clipped to our $100+ receipt. I don't know who is giving this restaurant high ratings but it is definitely not worth the cost or the quality of service. One and done. read more

In spite of a reservation, a wait was required because it was packed and people weren't leaving. The hostess stand is toward the back of the restaurant so you stand there waiting for anyone to greet and confirm your arrival. The awkward part is the table for four right there so basically your posterior is in their face. No place to stand and wait so we did our best with a shitty situation. Finally seated outside but waited for a server to start the evening and overall I'll say it was enjoyable, am not compelled to rush back. There are a lot of sushi restaurants in Naples so it'll be a while. With that out of the way the menu is unique enough to suggest you preview before arriving, but there are a lot of items to enjoy. We began with Chawan Mushi and a mushroom soup. Soup ranks very low while the app was unique enough to recommend. We ordered the spicy Ika Sarada which I won't recommend at all. The tuna was okay but it's a build-your own at the table and it doesn't work. Pass. We ordered Sushi Rolls which helped make up for the experience to date. Double Maguro, Pink Panther, and two bluefin/crab rolls were the hit. The only Maki was the Aburi (butter fish) which as you might expect, bland. Pass on that. Definitely a pricey experience with the foursome getting a $300bill; but a nice bottled wine selection to choose from so overall a 3-star experience. read more

The restaurant has a sleek and minimalist atmosphere, and sitting near the sushi bar lets you watch the chefs prepare everything right in front of you. I would recommend making a reservation in advance, especially during busy evenings. The sushi was extremely fresh and beautifully presented, and you can really tell they focus on quality ingredients. We went 30 mins after they opened so we were seated right away. We ordered dumplings for appetizers Opted for the presets: blue fin tuna, poke and nigiri. This cozy little spot is run by Thai owners who clearly put a lot of effort into creating a Japanese atmosphere, and I really appreciated that. The decor and overall vibe definitely give off a Japanese feel. While the seafood and nigiri were fresh, the flavors weren't quite what I'd expect from an authentic Japanese restaurant. The miso soup and noodle dishes had an interesting twist, and the curry was unique as well. If you're specifically looking for traditional Japanese cuisine, this may not fully satisfy that craving. Amazing Japanese Restaurant and Cuisine. The experience at the Sushi bar is the best! It's not a basic Sushi restaurant but more of a traditional Michelin Japanese cuisine. They prepare all plates in front of you and it's art. The ambiance is calm and relaxing. From the nigiri, to sashimi, to maki, to Zenzai, to Hon Maguro, to Soup, to Ika, to Donburi, Udon Noodle, everything is fresh and amazingly delicious. The Chef is very skilled and passionate. Mimoto is the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Naples. Everything from the decor, to the interesting menu, to the food quality and presentation, to the service are up to true Japanese standards. Anyone who has been to Japan knows that they aim for perfection in everything they do! The restaurant is small and intimate, with a beautiful sushi bar framed in light colored wood and minimalist in style. You can watch the sushi chefs at work if you sit at or near the bar area. The menu has some traditional Japanese favorites such as the California roll, but consists mainly of items with a twist. All items with crab are made with real crab, not the fake "krab" used in many restaurants. There's a large selection of both sushi options and hot dishes. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious, but our favorites were the udon noddles topped with crab, the eel on rice dish, and the California roll topped with tuna. The drinks are equally impressive, from the Saketini to the surprisingly green colored matcha IPA. They also have a nice selection of sakes at a variety of price points. Our server was very nice and attentive, and let us taste several different sakes until we found one we all liked. I highly recommend Mimoto to anyone who enjoys high quality Japanese food served in an authentic atmosphere. We ate lunch during the week at this lovely authentic Japanese restaurant, and can finally say that Naples has a wonderful sushi place. After over a decade on the West Coast, where good sushi restaurants are abundant, everything here is Asian fusion (Thai/Sushi-adjacent) and except for KJ's on 5th (which is no more) we have been a little disappointed. The appetizer we ordered (Salmon Tiradito) and the maki roll (escolar) were also quite tasty. I'd say the flavor of the rice was the highlight of the experience.
