Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing. She brought us champagne on the house for our anniversary which was very nice. She also helped get us a table in the bar area for after-dinner drinks even though it was packed in there. She went above and beyond. The foot was amazing! Usually I'm very underwhelmed by bao buns but these were the best ones I've had. They packed in enough flavor that the buns didn't mute everything (what usually happens). We also had the brisket fried rice which was great. I wanted the meat flavor to come through and stand out a little more from the rice but overall very good. But the miso black cod stole the show. We absolutely loved Blackbird Modern Asian and would be thrilled to see them open a Charleston location! The atmosphere is beautiful. It is dimly lit with vibrant fluorescent accents that create a unique and stunning ambiance. The gorgeous floral installation in the center of the restaurant is a lovely focal point. Our server was incredibly bubbly and helpful, making the entire experience 5 stars. The prices were very reasonable, the portions were generous and the food was incredible. My one disappointment was the Bangkok Street Noodles with smoked brisket, rice noodles, egg, chili, and crunchy garlic. I expected them to have more spice, but they were much sweeter than spicy. The star of the meal was the Orange Chicken. I do not usually order orange chicken, but this version was outstanding! It was perfectly crispy without being too sweet, with fresh orange peel, sweet chili, and bok choy. The Veggie Fried Rice was another perfect dish. Loaded with button mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, red peppers and scallions, it was loaded with fresh vegetables and flavor. It is the kind of dish I could eat every day! Went for happy hour and had an amazing experience. Our server, Nik, knew the menu backwards and forwards and made outstanding recommendations. We started with half price cocktails. Ordered Confucius Says and a Suit and Thai. Both were delicious. Nik enthusiastically recommended the Thai Beef Jerky and it was seriously the best bites of the night. Tender, succulent and such a great flavor topped with sesame seeds and fresh green onions. The chicken lettuce cups were generously filled and the contrast between the warm chicken and the crispy cold lettuce and veggies was wonderful. The egg rolls were not bad but just average although the dipping sauces were so good. The mustard could be a bit zippier but should appeal to most palates. We split the Bangkok Street Noodles and the mustard greens added and delightful texture to an otherwise soft dish. The food was excellent but it was the service that made it special. The General Manager stopped by to check that we liked everything. Nik was attentive but not intrusive and there were dedicated staff assigned to clear plates, always keeping the table clear, clean and fresh. Nik did a great job pacing the courses so we never felt rushed but never waited too long. Next time we will stick with the Thai Beef Jerky and try new things. Blackbird was our first stop in Naples after returning home from my fiancé and I's engagement! We sat outside and had beautiful weather, but the shades and fans were a nice touch to keep us cool. The staff was so kind and celebratory with us, starting us off with two glasses of prosessco. We ordered a variety of apps, foods, and cocktails - everything was incredible! We appreciated how the food came out timely and one after the next, spaced out perfectly by our waitress Gaga (she was amazing)! Our favorites were the dumplings, short rib noodles and the espresso martini was to die for!! Everyone's desserts around us looked fabulous but we were too stuffed to for more this time around. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with my meal. The wontons were OK. I would have liked for there to be more filling. The meat in the bankok street noodles was overcooked and chewy. Had a night and day experience at Blackbird this weekend! The hostesses smiled and welcomed us in and sat us immediately. Tatiana, our server, was bubbly, smiley, attentive, and even cracked some jokes with us. From a welcome back when we said we've been before, to a thank you for coming back when she dropped the check. The wonton soup and egg rolls were delicious. The truffle salmon crispy rice were very good. I'm not a lover of cilantro, but it was easy enough to scoop off under the salmon. As a non-seafood eater, and eating it in little bits, the salmon was very good. The crispy rice was nice and crunch and had good flavor. We shared the Lobster Garlic Noodles, and (again) as a non-seafood eater (trying to be a seafood eater), this was delicious. There were chunks and hunks of lobster meat, 3 claws worth at least, and probably a whole lobster's worth. The garlic noodles were very garlicky, and I enjoyed the xo sauce. The only downside of the whole night was that the fortune cookie on the blackbird martini was a little stale, but the flavor was still good! Yes. Don't wait any longer; book a reservation and get your ass to Blackbird! We didn't know how busy this restaurant would be. When we saw they offer happy hour through 10 PM on Mondays, we assumed that must mean it's a slower that night for them. Nope! There was a line almost out the door and standing room only in the bar room. Without a reservation and not wanting to wait an hour, the staff explained that we were more than welcome to sit outside and order drinks and small plates from the waitstaff out there. That seemed perfect for us as it was a beautiful night with the breeze coming off the waterway, and the heater keeping the chill off. We sat and ordered drunks and a couple appetizers to share. It was lovely. My favorite plate of the night was the Japanese eggplant and burrata. I did not know what to expect, but I can't wait to get it again. My friends and I were thrilled to get a Friday night reservation at Blackbird...everyone's been talking about this new restaurant and since we live here year-round we needed to get to this hot spot. And we were impressed! We had a 6pm reservation and arrived exactly on time, but still had to wait about 5 - 10 minutes. We had opted to sit outside when we made our reservation, and the outdoor area is very nice on the water. Shades kept the sun out of our eyes, and the area was not too loud at all even though it was packed. Our server was helpful, especially since this was our first visit to Blackbird. She offered suggestions on drinks (the Blackbird drink was outstanding), brought us the special gluten free menu (which has more options than the regular menu "GF" notations), and explained the family style servings. We started with the Orange Chili Calamari (AMAZING!) and the Short Rib and Bone Marrow Dumplings. And for dinner we shared the Garlic King Crab Noodles (again, this blew us all away and had huge pieces of crab throughout it in addition to the crab legs), Smoked Brisket Fried Rice (delicious) and the Beef & Broccoli (so so so tasty). We ordered off of the Happy Hour menu: Korean pickles, chicken lettuce cups, crispy tuna rice, short rib dumplings, pork wontons, and Year of the Horse dessert. Everything was delicious. Really wanted to like this place based on the Yelp reviews, which rarely ever let me down. Giving it four stars because I only had the happy hour menu, and sometimes restaurants don't serve their best dishes on happy hour, so I will go back and try something off the main menu. Food was actually a 3/3.5 in my humble opinion. I'm also from Orlando, so big shoes to fill. We got the short-rib dumplings, which are just terribly dry and flavorless. I think it would've been better as a pan-fried dumpling, or even a steamed dumpling. We also had the worst edamame I've ever had, extra saucy, and the char was actually off-putting. The noodle dish we got was overly sweet, and again, just lacked the flavor I had read about in the Yelp reviews. The Peking duck was a definite highlight. Some of the other dishes were only so so. The Bao bun appetizer was a bit bland . egg rolls were nothing special. How do you beat happy hour with expertly crafted half-priced drinks and delicious discounted food in a gorgeous NYC-dining level setting? We arrived at opening on a Sunday night, and there was a line of guests waiting to be let in. Within 15 minutes of being sat, the entire place, including the outdoor tables, were full. Highly recommend making a reservation! There is bar seating just in case but it doesn't give the same jaw-dropping ambient experience. As we were not quite hungry yet, it was nice to just order drinks and enjoy those while waiting for servers to tend to other tables. Despite the busyness, we were still taken care of quickly and attentively, without any servers being overbearing. The manager even came by to see how our meal was, which was a classy touch. Two drinks each: I got the Kill Bill, which was one of my all-time favorite Mezcal-infused drinks, and then followed that up with the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon -- the server sold me on that by saying it "tasted like Christmas." Enough said. My mom got the Crazy Rich Asians, and it was perfectly balanced with vodka, lemongrass, apple, kiwi and cucumber. I've only been here for happy hour so I'm only reviewing that. The Thai beef jerky is amazing as well as the Short rib and bone marrow dumplings. Drinks on happy hour are very small which seems to be typical with other restaurants. You're not getting a typical drink for less, but you're getting a smaller drink compared to the price of a normal drink- again typical for most restaurants, but not all. There's some in Naples that don't do this. However, the food here is good. One thing I will mention is that their "suggested tip" is based on the "Pre-discounted prices". That's printed right on your receipt. This totally shows how greedy restaurants are getting. Food prices have gone up 30% so even if the old 15% tip stayed the same, servers would automatically get a 30% raise in tips. However, now the restaurant industry has convinced people that 20% is the bare minimum one should give, and that should be based on prices if you weren't at happy hour. That's not the way it works! Unfortunately in the U.S. tips are based on the amount of the bill. But now we're told that it's the amount of the bill if you weren't at happy hour. Sorry, I don't agree with this and don't tip this way. Personally I wish we would go to the European standard which is: You pay what's on the bill. No surprises. No "suggested tips". If restaurants need to raise their prices, so be it. At least we know exactly what the bill will be instead of customers required to subsidize the wages of the servers. But I digress. Food, drinks and service were excellent. Oh, one other thing- When this place was Bonefish Grille, there was self parking. Now there is no self parking. You have to use Valet Parking which I don't like. Thank goodness you don't have to worry about leaving famished. Also because that was one of my teens only requests when he let me pick out his birthday dinner spot. It was his 17th and Nemo was our server. Nemo heightened our experience by going above and beyond. His energy/personality and attention to detail was amazing. She definitely understood her assignment when thinking of these rich tastes to mix. We were guided into the chic Asian themed dining room and seated promptly. The server, Savanah M was informative and friendly and walked us through the menu. She let us know that happy hour was still going and we could order from the happy hour menu or get drink specials. I ordered the Gangnam Style cocktail and it was delish. We ordered Truffle salmon crispy rice as a starter and it was very tasty, with a great crunch. We ordered several entrees to share including Miso black cod - fantastic and probably the best thing we had which is a high bar since everything was good, General Tao's Tikka Masala chicken - which was good but would be better by dropping the tikka masala mashup component, Chiang Mai pad Thai which was also very good. I'd like to think we have experienced so many of the restaurants in Naples, Bonita and Estero, but hands-down, this is still one of our favorites. We came yesterday for my husband's birthday. We were seated in a very timely manner. Our server was named Gaga. She was fabulous as we have come to expect from prior visits. Similar to every previous visit, the food was incredibly packed with flavor. The portions are generous, and the service was top-notch. The drinks are also expertly crafted and absolutely delicious. The only feedback I can give, and I want to stress it's not negative is that they ask you online if it is a special occasion and I had replied that it was for a birthday and it wasn't until after we had paid the bill that we were asked if we were celebrating anything special. In her defense, she did still offer to bring us a complementary dessert, but we were so full we chose to pass on it. We have also had the pleasure of tasting all of them since we celebrated my daughter's birthday here and ordered the big dessert that includes a little bit of everything. We have a beautiful night at Blackbird. It's few minutes walking from home, and beside Nosh in the romantic Naples Marina. We were welcomed without reservation, and the welcoming host was really nice and accommodating. The menu is large and you need time to browse it. We decided to go with the Hamachi Jalapeño followed by the Lobster. The lobster is absolutely big! it's a 2.5lbs one. We went to many restaurants in Naples and paid the same price for an absolutely ridiculous lobster, but here it's not the case, you are going to be amazed. We were totally happy. The waiter Adam was also excellent, fast, knowledgeable, cool and not pushy. We liked his service. Truly. The design is remarkable and I can't wait to book the little room for us and few guests. This is easily the best addition to the Naples food scene in the last 5 years. We came in last night with a party of 8. Some restaurants would have struggled with the size of our party alone. They seated us within 5 min of our reservation and the service from start to finish was perfect. The ambience was electric. Crazy good vibe. Music was on point and added the the mood. Food wise we had some of the best Asian food we've enjoyed in recent memory. We started with the edamame, the duck lettuce wraps, short ribs and cauliflower. All were fantastic. We moved onto the the entrees and really enjoyed them. I did the duck fried rice and it was a flavor bomb. My wife did the orange chicken which was pretty good. Other guests really enjoyed their meals as well. Prices were moderate considering its Naples. They also had a pretty good sake menu! read more
