The food was wonderful and our server was attentive. Let me start with that positive. The host stand staff were disappointing in attitude and friendliness. Tuesday, Aug 25, hot as hades and with a reservation, we were escorted by many unoccupied tables outside and seated at the very last table. It was in full sun within 30 minutes and even with a fan blowing right on us, it was too hot to enjoy. They had to squeeze in one more table and clearly with no consideration for guest comfort. Exceptional from start to finish. We loved the modern Asian vibe and decor. Very elevated - felt like exactly what we want for a night out without the kids. Service was great from start to finish. Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing. She brought us champagne on the house for our anniversary which was very nice. She also helped get us a table in the bar area for after-dinner drinks even though it was packed in there. She went above and beyond. The foot was amazing! Usually I'm very underwhelmed by bao buns but these were the best ones I've had. They packed in enough flavor that the buns didn't mute everything (what usually happens). We also had the brisket fried rice which was great. I wanted the meat flavor to come through and stand out a little more from the rice but overall very good. But the miso black cod stole the show. We went to Blackbird Modern Asian tonight with a large party for a birthday. The atmosphere is pretty cool there's a huge tree in the middle of the dining room with a Buddha behind it, and visually that's probably the most memorable thing about the place. Outside of that, I'm genuinely not sure what all the hype is about. From the beginning, even very minor modifications seemed to completely throw everyone off. Ordering a salad without a couple of ingredients became an enormous ordeal. I asked if I could get noodles without the sauce, and eventually the manager came over to explain that the chef literally would not make them that way because "they wouldn't taste good." I said that was fine -- shouldn't I be the one deciding whether they taste good? I asked if they could simply use garlic, salt and truffle oil instead, and was then told that truffle oil "cannot be used in a wok." At that point, I pretty much gave up. That was kind of the theme of the night. Simple questions like "What is this sauce?" were met with blank stares and "I'll go ask the chef." There seemed to be a lot of staff wandering around looking extremely busy, yet somehow very little was actually happening. One person in our party had to ask several times just to get salad dressing. Courses came out at completely random times with no apparent rhyme or reason. Then came the birthday cake. They brought us eight spoons, so I assumed they were going to cut the cake and serve everyone a piece -- which I would have been perfectly happy to pay for. Instead, they brought one piece to the birthday boy while the rest of us just sat there staring at our spoons. By then, I think we were all too afraid to ask what was happening. Even after what was pretty obviously not a great experience, the manager mentioned that he hoped we would come back. And I remember thinking... that probably would have been more likely before the 50 things that went wrong tonight. The frustrating part is that you can tell a lot of money and thought went into creating this place. The space itself has potential. But the execution, service, communication and overall organization just do not match the level the restaurant seems to be aiming for. If you live nearby and want to check it out, sure. But if you're driving any significant distance because you've heard all the hype, I genuinely don't think it's worth the drive. And Sir John, if you plan on responding to my review with excuses, I'd highly advise against it. You have quite a few people on the internet giving you free business advice in the form of bad reviews. I'd take the feedback, roll with it, and use it to make the place better, buddy. read more

Excellence all on a dish! My absolute favorite was the chargrilled octopus. This restaurant has it down packed and sets the standard high on how to have the BEST octopus. We absolutely loved Blackbird Modern Asian and would be thrilled to see them open a Charleston location! The atmosphere is beautiful. It is dimly lit with vibrant fluorescent accents that create a unique and stunning ambiance. The gorgeous floral installation in the center of the restaurant is a lovely focal point. Our server was incredibly bubbly and helpful, making the entire experience 5 stars. The prices were very reasonable, the portions were generous and the food was incredible. My one disappointment was the Bangkok Street Noodles with smoked brisket, rice noodles, egg, chili, and crunchy garlic. I expected them to have more spice, but they were much sweeter than spicy. The star of the meal was the Orange Chicken. I do not usually order orange chicken, but this version was outstanding! It was perfectly crispy without being too sweet, with fresh orange peel, sweet chili, and bok choy. The Veggie Fried Rice was another perfect dish. Loaded with button mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, red peppers and scallions, it was loaded with fresh vegetables and flavor. It is the kind of dish I could eat every day! Blackbird was our first stop in Naples after returning home from my fiancé and I's engagement! We sat outside and had beautiful weather, but the shades and fans were a nice touch to keep us cool. The staff was so kind and celebratory with us, starting us off with two glasses of prosessco. We ordered a variety of apps, foods, and cocktails - everything was incredible! We appreciated how the food came out timely and one after the next, spaced out perfectly by our waitress Gaga (she was amazing)! Our favorites were the dumplings, short rib noodles and the espresso martini was to die for!! Everyone's desserts around us looked fabulous but we were too stuffed to for more this time around. We have already booked our next reservation and look forward to going with a larger group to try even more of the menu! First and won't be the last time at blackbird. Had a great experience and delicious meal. The restaurant was packed for a Tuesday night which off the bat was a great sign for me. We had a reservation but it took about ten extra minutes till we were sat which was fine with me like I said it was packed in there. Once we got to the table our sever greeted us and offered us some water and we were pretty much ready to order. We got both crispy rice apps one tuna and one truffle salmon to try they come with four pieces of each. They were both very good but we enjoyed the truffle salmon one better. We also got the orange chicken which was really good more like a sweet chili orange vibe to me but non the less delish. Also we got the veg fried rice which is standard but tasted great. And we tried two noodle dishes, the garlic butter lobster noodles and the chicken pad Thai. Both were amazing but those lobster garlic noodles were next level very very good. Decided to check out Blackbird during my visit after seeing it while searching for high-end Asian fusion restaurants. Parking is complimentary valet only, which was convenient. Yes. Don't wait any longer; book a reservation and get your ass to Blackbird! We didn't know how busy this restaurant would be. When we saw they offer happy hour through 10 PM on Mondays, we assumed that must mean it's a slower that night for them. Nope! There was a line almost out the door and standing room only in the bar room. Without a reservation and not wanting to wait an hour, the staff explained that we were more than welcome to sit outside and order drinks and small plates from the waitstaff out there. That seemed perfect for us as it was a beautiful night with the breeze coming off the waterway, and the heater keeping the chill off. We sat and ordered drunks and a couple appetizers to share. It was lovely. My favorite plate of the night was the Japanese eggplant and burrata. I did not know what to expect, but I can't wait to get it again. Had a night and day experience at Blackbird this weekend! The hostesses smiled and welcomed us in and sat us immediately. Tatiana, our server, was bubbly, smiley, attentive, and even cracked some jokes with us. From a welcome back when we said we've been before, to a thank you for coming back when she dropped the check. The wonton soup and egg rolls were delicious. The truffle salmon crispy rice were very good. I'm not a lover of cilantro, but it was easy enough to scoop off under the salmon. As a non-seafood eater, and eating it in little bits, the salmon was very good. The crispy rice was nice and crunch and had good flavor. We shared the Lobster Garlic Noodles, and (again) as a non-seafood eater (trying to be a seafood eater), this was delicious. There were chunks and hunks of lobster meat, 3 claws worth at least, and probably a whole lobster's worth. The garlic noodles were very garlicky, and I enjoyed the xo sauce. The only downside of the whole night was that the fortune cookie on the blackbird martini was a little stale, but the flavor was still good! Went for happy hour and had an amazing experience. Our server, Nik, knew the menu backwards and forwards and made outstanding recommendations. We started with half price cocktails. Ordered Confucius Says and a Suit and Thai. Both were delicious. Nik enthusiastically recommended the Thai Beef Jerky and it was seriously the best bites of the night. Tender, succulent and such a great flavor topped with sesame seeds and fresh green onions. The chicken lettuce cups were generously filled and the contrast between the warm chicken and the crispy cold lettuce and veggies was wonderful. The egg rolls were not bad but just average although the dipping sauces were so good. The mustard could be a bit zippier but should appeal to most palates. We split the Bangkok Street Noodles and the mustard greens added and delightful texture to an otherwise soft dish. The food was excellent but it was the service that made it special. The General Manager stopped by to check that we liked everything. Nik was attentive but not intrusive and there were dedicated staff assigned to clear plates, always keeping the table clear, clean and fresh. Nik did a great job pacing the courses so we never felt rushed but never waited too long. Next time we will stick with the Thai Beef Jerky and try new things. We were celebrating a birthday and it was all well noted with the reservation, they advised us at the time of reservation they can do a dessert platter, no word about a birthday and no dessert platter. Really wanted to like this place based on the Yelp reviews, which rarely ever let me down. Giving it four stars because I only had the happy hour menu, and sometimes restaurants don't serve their best dishes on happy hour, so I will go back and try something off the main menu. Food was actually a 3/3.5 in my humble opinion. I'm also from Orlando, so big shoes to fill. We got the short-rib dumplings, which are just terribly dry and flavorless. I think it would've been better as a pan-fried dumpling, or even a steamed dumpling. We also had the worst edamame I've ever had, extra saucy, and the char was actually off-putting. The noodle dish we got was overly sweet, and again, just lacked the flavor I had read about in the Yelp reviews. (Bangkok Street Noodles) The inside and the ambience get five stars: sheik Miami vibe, dark. Also loved that they had a large bar area with first-come, first-served seating and tables. How do you beat happy hour with expertly crafted half-priced drinks and delicious discounted food in a gorgeous NYC-dining level setting? We arrived at opening on a Sunday night, and there was a line of guests waiting to be let in. Within 15 minutes of being sat, the entire place, including the outdoor tables, were full. Highly recommend making a reservation! There is bar seating just in case but it doesn't give the same jaw-dropping ambient experience. As we were not quite hungry yet, it was nice to just order drinks and enjoy those while waiting for servers to tend to other tables. Despite the busyness, we were still taken care of quickly and attentively, without any servers being overbearing. The manager even came by to see how our meal was, which was a classy touch. Two drinks each: I got the Kill Bill, which was one of my all-time favorite Mezcal-infused drinks, and then followed that up with the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon -- the server sold me on that by saying it "tasted like Christmas." Enough said. My mom got the Crazy Rich Asians, and it was perfectly balanced with vodka, lemongrass, apple, kiwi and cucumber. We shared 4 items, and loved them all: Truffle mushroom bao bun, Mongolian brisket bao bun, Dan Dan Noodles and Short rib and bone marrow dumplings. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with my meal. The wontons were OK. I would have liked for there to be more filling. The meat in the bankok street noodles was overcooked and chewy. I did really like the chewy texture of the noodles. They have good pricing on drinks and food for happy hour but I think I'd rather spend my $ elsewhere. read more

Elevated Asian restaurant that is transportive when you step into the restaurant . The Main dining room is beautiful with a real preserved cherry blossom tree as the center piece of the room. (The tree is real, the flowers are not). The bar/lounge ceiling is decorated with Asian fans, and has a dark sultry type of feel; which is definitely a great date night place. I have been here multiple times for happy hour. The happy hour menu is extensive and the prices are slightly discounted from the regular price. The best deal is the 50% off of the drinks. The regular menu prices are also very reasonable so when we come for Happy hour (due to discounted drinks), we order new stuff from the main menu. The service we received from the bar staff, bartender and dining staff have been very polished, professional, and informative. There were a few items we wouldn't have ordered if not for the recommendations of the server. The beef jerky was delicious and nothing like what you would buy from the grocery store. The Chinese taco was also an item we wouldn't have tried. My friends and I were thrilled to get a Friday night reservation at Blackbird...everyone's been talking about this new restaurant and since we live here year-round we needed to get to this hot spot. And we were impressed! We had a 6pm reservation and arrived exactly on time, but still had to wait about 5 - 10 minutes. We had opted to sit outside when we made our reservation, and the outdoor area is very nice on the water. Shades kept the sun out of our eyes, and the area was not too loud at all even though it was packed. Our server was helpful, especially since this was our first visit to Blackbird. She offered suggestions on drinks (the Blackbird drink was outstanding), brought us the special gluten free menu (which has more options than the regular menu "GF" notations), and explained the family style servings. We started with the Orange Chili Calamari (AMAZING!) and the Short Rib and Bone Marrow Dumplings. And for dinner we shared the Garlic King Crab Noodles (again, this blew us all away and had huge pieces of crab throughout it in addition to the crab legs), Smoked Brisket Fried Rice (delicious) and the Beef & Broccoli (so so so tasty). The orange chicken was lightly fried but for a dish served with Bok Chuy there was a minimal amount of bok chuy on the serving plate. The street noodles with beef had a decent flavor but the beef itself was very tough. The deserts would be helped by simpling down the ingredient's. We ordered off of the Happy Hour menu: Korean pickles, chicken lettuce cups, crispy tuna rice, short rib dumplings, pork wontons, and Year of the Horse dessert. Everything was delicious. Yes this place is 5 star but it's most definitely with it. My friend she made reservations for us and I must say I'm soooo glad she did. When we arrived we came 10 minutes before our reservation and we still ended up waiting 20-30 minutes. They basically can't seat you until someone leaves. The manager noticed we been waiting longer then usual and once we were seated came over and offered us two free appetizers as an apology. Now this is what I call great customer service. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and knew a lot of the items on the menu. As you look around you see people taking pictures and of course a lot of date nights. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I also noticed they have a happy hour special at the bar as well. We got large plates and drinks and shared them amongst the three of us. Great Asian fusion spot in Naples We came to Blackbird with a slightly early reservation for our party of four on a Saturday evening in season. We were guided into the chic Asian themed dining room and seated promptly. The server, Savanah M was informative and friendly and walked us through the menu. She let us know that happy hour was still going and we could order from the happy hour menu or get drink specials. I ordered the Gangnam Style cocktail and it was delish. We ordered Truffle salmon crispy rice as a starter and it was very tasty, with a great crunch. We ordered several entrees to share including Miso black cod - fantastic and probably the best thing we had which is a high bar since everything was good, General Tao's Tikka Masala chicken - which was good but would be better by dropping the tikka masala mashup component, Chiang Mai pad Thai which was also very good. Had a reservation for 2, but waited more than 40 min. Was sat next to a large table of out of hand people- (sloppy, spilling, yelling, drunk) Staff did not address the behavior- couldn't order due to their loud yelling. The waitress couldn't hear us. Was moved outside. Then after moving we ordered. At this point it felt like a birthday disaster. Just super uncomfortable all around and half of my meal was inedible. Thank goodness you don't have to worry about leaving famished. Also because that was one of my teens only requests when he let me pick out his birthday dinner spot. It was his 17th and Nemo was our server. Nemo heightened our experience by going above and beyond. His energy/personality and attention to detail was amazing. He also made sure to not let us go wout trying executive dessert chef Denise Elrod and her award winning desserts. Boy oh boy The Raspberry Pistachio was so worth every bite too! She definitely understood her assignment when thinking of these rich tastes to mix.
