This was my first visit to the Black Cat Grille. My wife and daughter have dined here and suggested that I would probably like the food. We arrived early (5;20 PM) on a Friday night and had our choice of indoor or patio dining. We chose the patio because it was a late spring day and the temperature was ~70 degrees. We received a friendly and sincere welcome from the host, Joe, who showed us to our table and took our drink orders. Our waitress came by to introduce herself and provide us with menus. Our choice for a starter was the beer battered onion rings. These were made fresh to order and were clear home-made. They arrived quickly and were fresh and hot. There were EXCELLENT. My daughter chose fish and chips and I chose the a hamburger. Both entrees arrived in a timely manner and were hot and prepared as requested. The fish, the beef the french fries and the cole slaw were fresh and the quality was EXCELLENT. I appreciated the malt vinegar for the fries We finished with coffee as we both did not have room for desert. Coffee was fresh and very good. My daughter just received a nice salary raise at work and treated me to an early Fathers Day dinner. Overall, a very pleasant experience. I look forward to returning here again for dinner. Very comfortable spot - just opened - great food and great beer. We enjoyed our meal out with friends immensely. Very nice involved and conscientious and hospitable owners and staff! Had the short rib special which was "off the hook" but the baby back ribs and Fish and Chips were also outstanding. My family is absolutely in love with this place! We got here for brunch occasionally. We have also been here for dinner and post-dinner drinks. The inside and outside are both great places to eat. The inside is warm and welcoming, but sometimes a little dark. The outside patio is close to a main road but the patio is fenced off so it doesn't deter too much from the ambiance. The staff is very friendly - except for one man (Evan I think). When we were there for brunch on Sunday he had a hard time understanding us and did not get our order accurately. The owner, Elio, is such a nice man. He is always walking around talking to everyone and tends to buy us a drink every now and then. The bartender as well - we have become great friends with her and every so often she will do a shot with us! The crowd can get a little strange at night - people getting off late shifts from around the area - but everyone is very friendly. This is a great place to grab a drink, a bite, or a full meal! read more

The burgers here are fantastic! I'm sure the other food is good too, but honestly the burgers are so good I find it hard to order anything else. The service is prompt and attentive without being intrusive. The outdoor patio is lovely on a nice day, and the indoor seating area is cozy and inviting. I really appreciate that their kitchen stays open during that awkward time between lunch and dinner (around 3pm) when many places in the area will turn you away if you're looking to get a late lunch. This is a great place that churns out quality good consistently. I don't see them on food delivery apps, however since the start of COVID, they have been offering delivery within a certain radius. We've used this many times, just be sure to leave the tip over the phone of paying by card as their delivery driver likes to drop and dash the food without taking the tip? My husband and I like the food at Black Cat fine but had an experience recently that's causing us to question whether we will be back or not. The scene: Black Cat, Saturday, 7PM (AKA prime dinner time in G-Town) A group of obnoxiously drunk people in the corner of the bar are playing Yahtzee, clapping and screaming whenever anyone goes to roll the dice. Someone eating dinner makes a comment about it being really distracting and they stop playing the game but continue to be VERY loud and disrespectful to the 75% of the establishment designated for uses other than a bar. Extremely intoxicated woman at the bar screams "IS THIS A F%*KING BAR OR WHAT?!?" Answer: no, it's a restaurant where 25% of the space is designated as a bar area. And it's 7PM, not 11. Cue a table with elderly women, two tables with small children and one young couple (my husband and I) all hurrying to scarf down their meals and exiting stage left ASAP. Disappointingly, no one from Black Cat seemed to make any comment to the visually and audibly intoxicated patrons whatsoever, let alone cut them off and/or kick them out. So glad we attempted to have a decent meal there, foregoing the other good options just steps away. Not looking to make that mistake again. read more

Excellent burgers and their fresh cut fries are truly the best around. My husband is vegetarian and loves the house made veggie burger and various veggie options. The staff is very friendly and the craft beer selection on tap is by far the best all around. Also, they have trivia on Tuesdays! It's so much fun. We had the filet mignon bites which sound great on paper but in actuality we're pretty strange. When I think of filet I don't think of cream cheese or prosciutto but they sounded interesting. It was obvious they had been sitting around because prosciutto isn't supposed to be grey. They tasted... well... grey. Kinda just greasy and sorta salty and... grey. My wife got the Pastrami Rachel and I got a burger. The burger was actually pretty good if a bit underdone and the fries were fine. The pastrami was essentially inedible as it was very rubbery. So two stars because the burger was good and our server seemed like a nice guy but don't think we'd go back. read more

I stopped here quick for lunch because I heard good things about it. I sat at the Bar and the bartender was on his phone. He dropped menus and went back to watching videos. We had to call him back over and it still took him a minute to put his phone down. We ordered and food arrived pretty quickly. The Cajun shrimp taco was so spicy, neither of us could eat it but my friend got the shrimp tacos. There was literally one shrimp cut up into 4 pieces on each taco. Pretty sad for a $14 shrimp taco. First time for the Black Cat. Arrived around 5:30PM on a Sunday and was expecting a larger crowd. It never did get busier... for good reason. Ambience was nice enough and service was excellent. Prices were inline with other restaurants in the area. Unfortunately, the food did not meet expectations. The fish and chips weren't quite crisp enough and slightly soggy although the size of the portion was certainly adequate. My wife's NY Strip was under-cooked and tough, and the au-poivre sauce was gritty (pieces of peppercorn?) The garlic mashed potatoes were tasty but gritty as well - and no idea the source of that. It's time to change the menu. I like The Black Cat but there is only so much on the menu that I personally don't like. Tonight's visit was not up to par. The waiter was kind of rude when he told me if It where a Friday he wouldn't allow me to order off the menu I only asked for a different cheese and no tomato....is that that difficult? When 2 in my party arrived early they where rushed to order something but I couldn't even get a glass of water with my wine. We went to the Black Cat last night for the first time and had a wonderful experience. I grew up in nearby Westport, and remember the days of the Clam Box, Manero's, Arrow and the Big Top, and I wanted to like the Black Cat, as I now live in Weston, and have seen work on this place going on for years. I miss the really good food of places like the Clam Box, and am typically unsatisfied by new American restaurants. Everything tastes like Friday's. Not the Black Cat. The Black Cat is one big room (with a large outdoor patio that looks like it will be very nice in the warmer months) but I found it warm and inviting, not barn-like. No, it's probably not right for a quiet proposal dinner, but few places are. I loved the unusual fireplace way up where the second floor would be, and I'd like to see it when it's lit. Very cozy in winter, and I bet it will be very airy and bright in summer. I found the menu a substantial tick above Little Pub/Lumberyard food. I ordered the filet mignon bites wrapped in prosciutto, stuffed with cream cheese and I could have been happy with a huge plate of them for the whole meal. Amazing, and it's hard to get me to say that about anything. I would go there just for that dish, they were that good. I followed with the ribs which were about as good as ribs get. The fries were (and I am a fry maniac) were double fried and flawless. Perfect. Ditto the onion rings. My daughter's salmon with crab sauce was very nice, my son had a huge plate of nachos to start, and the filet mignon bites as a main (I stole two.) My wife had the calamari as a starter which were great, and a very, very nice burger with blue cheese, bacon, Gruyere and onions. I'm a foodie, and a picky one at that, and I couldn't complain about anything. The service was excellent, and for a place open all of a week, I could find nothing wanting. No, it's not La Cirque, but it's not trying to be. I'll be back, no question. read more

This restaurant is a welcome addition to the Georgetown restaurant scene! The place is just beautiful, a ton of attention to detail. It is pub-like with tons of Americana decorations thoughtfully done. It is a small place, but that is a good thing. The bar is separated from dining by a small divider wall. Food and drink... the wine list although small was unique and I liked that. Service was great. For starters I had the filet tips, and my friend had the calamari. The filet tips were a burst of flavor in every bite, interesting and unique. The calamari was crispy and tasty and however sauce wasn't that tasty. My friend had the burger and I had the mussels; both meals were exceptional! There are plenty of options on the menu and many specials too. It is a small space so may be tight on weekends but it's worth it! read more

We were a large group of motorcyclists going to Connecticut for the day. We looked up restaurants in the area and came across the black cat grille. We made a reservation for 20 people. Sometimes when we walk in with a large group the staff is all frazzled. NOT THIS PLACE! The service was fabulous, the food was delicious, everything was spectacular.The management took excellent care of us and kept coming over to see if everything was ok. There wasn't one person that was dissatisfied, everyone was raving about their food and service. We would definitely return to this restaurant, they contributed to us all having a terrific day.. read more

My husband and I LOVE going here on Sundays for lunch. They make their own Bloody Mary mix of which I am VERY picky about and it's the best in the area. Went to the black cat Grill last night with my two children. We arrived around 6 p.m. and it was completely dead, except people sitting at the bar. So one would think you would get awesome service, but this was definitely not the case. The waitress was an older woman who seemed extremely annoyed at having to service us. I feel because it was a mother with her two children she just didn't want to be bothered, thinking we probably wouldn't tip good. She was rude and rushed us while we were trying to order. She told me that I was confusing her when I was just trying to ask questions. She did not even acknowledge my children at all. She made me feel very uncomfortable and pretty much ignored us the entire time. Never came to check back on our food after serving us. Forgot the mayo I asked for and was standing by the bar on her phone the whole time. I had to get up and find her to get the mayonnaise so we can eat our food. Burger was undercooked when I specified numerous times I wanted it well done, no pink, no red. Now, I know it is not her fault if the chef undercooked the burger, but her reaction was extremely rude. She glared at my burger and said that it didn't look that red. When I picked up a piece of the really red meat in the middle, she said, "well, you ate some of it so I'm not sure what you want me to do for you." If I did not have my children with me I would have asked for a manager or the owner, but I really did not want to do that in front of my kids. So she said "I guess I can take it off your bill if you want me to." Are you joking? You should be apologizing and of course offering to take it off my bill since it's something that I told you I was extremely against eating any red or pink and that it actually made me feel sick to my stomach so I could not finish eating. Not to mention that the fries were way too hard and some were burnt. I am very shocked at how a dead restaurant can come out with overcooked and undercooked food. I worked in restaurants for 10-plus years as a waitress and I am just shocked at how bad the service was here. It's unfortunate because my children take tennis lessons twice a week right down the road and we were going to come here on the way home from tennis lessons to grab dinner every Thursday but obviously we will not be returning. read more

Service was good. Fish and chips was over done and didn't taste like anything. French onion soup seems like the only thing they can get right that isn't straight out of the freezer. Waited for my meal for an additional 5 minutes while everyone else I was with ate. Also weird that both tvs were dedicated to national geographic showing crocodiles rip apart animals, made for a delightful dining experience. Slow service, think he might be new so some understanding. However we were first ones seated and several table got food before we did. The onions rings were good but compliments stop there. Veggie wrap was cold, Georgetown dip was cold and cheese so not melted I could peel the slices apart. When they heated it up it came back with slightly melted cheese on top and meat still cold. The meat tasted like precooked bagged beef. Not fresh. Overall Bad Cat and we won't be back. read more
