No, I am not an employee, a friend of the employee or anyway connected to Black Cat Grille owners.... We heard about this place from a realtor's office in Wilton and thought we would give it a try since we just moved in the area last July 2013. We have not found a decent place around and would still go to our old dives in Westport and Norwalk to eat... Tonight, we tried the Black Cat Grille. I had the Blackened Cat Fish Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries and I thought it was a two thumbs up... very moist, tasty and the ciabatta bread was a perfect match. I normally don't eat the bread in fish sandwiches as they are normally midiocre, but the chef in the kitchen definitely put thought to the bread pairing. The sweet potatoes were not burnt and perfectly crispy. My husband tried the Black Cat Burger on a pumpernickel roll.... the roll was missing and instead, used a pumpenickel slice bread. He says he still enjoyed it and found his burger to be moist. Maybe because he likes his burgers medium, which came to our table perfectly medium. Both our plates were cleaned up to the last crumb. I guess that tells you we enjoyed every bit of the food on our plate. Then we ended our meal by sharing a dessert. Our pick was the Ameretto Bread Pudding topped with whip cream. They knocked that out of the park! Not too cloyingly sweet and perfect size for us to share and not feel overstuffed. Pricewise, we definitely thought it was more reasonable than the other competition around the area. As for the service. We had very good service. Our female server was sweet. Although it seemed she was taking care of all the tables, we didn't think we had to wait a long time to be served. Yes, we will be visiting the place again soon and trying the ribs and the fish and chips that people wrote about. :) read more

Place is a nice addition to the area. The good: Food is good to pretty good, would not say excellent, but I have yet to be disappointed, but I have noticed some inconsistencies night to night. The place has a nice, charming feel to it. The place is small and a bit tight. Large groups will have trouble getting a table. I have never made a reservation, so I can't comment. The bar is nice and has a good "towny" feel. The bad: The wait staff is not the best. Some times they are rude, sometimes stoned (seems) and other times quite pleasant. The wait can sometimes be long for a table. Overall: I am very happy with the place. Food is quite good, just sometimes the waitstaff stinks. read more

How nice it is to have another great restaurant 5 minutes from our house! We went the first time a couple of months ago and then came back last week. Burgers and Fish & Chips were both excellent. Wonderful service in a great friendly local atmosphere. Prices reasonable. My only little criticism was I agree that some of the tables (like the front corner booth) are a bit claustrophobic. Returned to the Black Cat bar/restaurant for another casual evening. The place really feels comfortable and inviting. Best chow: salmon, burgers and fried clam strips. I'll happily go back for those items. However, to be avoided are both the fried shrimp and the fish and chips. Weird how they can do a sensational job with the crispy clam strips but can't seem to get to first base with the other two. (Your shrimp plate may impress you when it is served as the shrimp look quite large. Unfortunately it is an illusion. When you bite in, you'll eventually find a little shrimp enclosed within the thick oversized somewhat undercooked and soggy beer batter.). Same for the fish. So like many restaurants you have to figure out, by trial and error, what the chef can and cannot do. read more

I am giving them 5 stars for not even blinking an eye when 4 women with a baby came in at 4:30 Fri evening. Our daughter's were at Sparklicious so we figured let's go get some drinks and snacks. Bar was very happening, otherwise it was empty. We were seated at the table, the waitress was polite and accommodating. Calamari was great though the marinara was little watery. read more

Came hear wth family for an early brunch. They were accommodating in getting the meal out quickly for my three year old. Service was prompt and I never felt any pressure. My burger came out perfectly and was delicious. Reasonably priced and a great beer selection. read more

The food is subpar, the French onion soup is delicious and the Rachel sandwich. My only complaint is the seating, I feel like people are sitting on top of me when I eat there. People are way too close, and there is no such thing as a private conversation. read more

You know what makes this place 5 star worthy? The people who work there. The food might not be the fanciest, but everything I've gotten was good quality and tasty. The service, though, is what makes this place a favorite for me. My family and I had spent over an hour waiting at Portofino's. WITH a reservation. On my birthday. Despite being packed, the friendly lady who answered the phone said they would make room for us no problem and said to "come on in." Walking into that place was like walking into a friend's house. Everyone who worked there seemed happy to see us, sat us IMMEDIATELY, got drinks for us right away. Different members of the waitstaff checked on us throughout the night, making sure we were taken care of without hovering. At one point, all of us were looking across the restaurant at someone we knew. The OWNER came over to make sure everything was alright and that we weren't trying to signal someone. You could tell that everyone there felt at home, that there were a lot of regulars, but that newcomers were just as welcome. A joy to find another great pub in the Georgtown Branchville area. The burgers are great with lots of options They have a fine beer listing and lots of choices for dinner entres. Nice, pleasant, local pub. Very simple menu with grill selections and a few other dishes. Dining room can be noisy at time with lower music played over the small, but crowded dining room. Deck dining is unremarkable, but a relaxing spot to park and chat. Service is prompt, food is well prepared, prices are quite reasonable, parking is easy and most of the crowd seems to be polite locals looking for a simple meal and casual chat. The dining areas are smaller than the buildings appearance lets on, so plan your visits accordingly if you don't want to wait for a table. Starts clearing out after 8pm. A great casual alternative to the Road House and not far at all from the "Georgetown strip" just off Route 7. read more

Was back in Georgetown the other week visiting with an old friend. We went to The Black Cat for lunch and drinks. We were met with the best service and very good food. Jen, the bartender, was incredibly attentive and pleasant. The beer selection was awesome....good beers on tap and by the bottle. The sandwich and nachos (we shared these) were excellent. I went here for a late lunch after work. I'm not going to get too descriptive about several service issues, but there were issues. Loud drunks at the bar, I understand it's the holidays and employees are having parties, so maybe this isn't a regular problem. The server was slow on the draw. PEI mussels were like rubber super-balls dunked in a decently done white wine broth. I ordered the Georgetown burger, which I might recommend if you get lucky enough to have it served hot. THE best burgers in town! Don't even bother going anywhere else. Burgers are fresh ground daily, served on delicious brioche buns with hand cut fries. Service is always prompt, staff is warm and welcoming, and beer selection is ever changing with new and interesting craft beer weekly. Just left Black Cat. Had a great meal, nice atmosphere and pleasant service. The one negative of our experience was the glass of wine. We paid $12 each for a glass of wine that was not even filled 1/4 way. It was a very weak glass of wine. I would go back again, but hopefully this time get a more impressive glass of a $12 wine. read more

Went to the Black Cat for the first time last Saturday Feb. 15. Everything went very well. Was seated quickly, and our waitress was attentive. Our party had two beers and water. My Guiness was not too cold (as it should be) and poured correctly. The Coors Lite was ice cold. Had an order of Calimari to start, was very tender, nicely cooked, sauce good. My wife and our friend each had burgers which were large and very good. Came with french fries or sweet potato fries. I had the fried cod, was lightly fried and very tasty. I thought the the $16.99 was priced a little high. it was our friends 88th birthday so they gave him a free desert, had the strawberry cheesecake with chocolate sauce drizzled over the top, looked great. What a great little restaurant and bar!! Food is top notch and tastes homemade. When ,our family walked in we were greeted by the smiling faces of the waitstaff, and promptly seated at a great corner table. But the real payoff with this place is the food. I haven't had fish and chips this good since London. The fried clam strips and oysters must have been caught that morning. French fries are not greasy and served HOT. Can't wait to taste their short ribs. DO try the "Georgetown Dip"...a generous helping of thinly sliced roast beef served "au jus" (the natural meat juices in a cup on the side). A well stocked bar and a great selection of craft beers on tap to wash down a very satisfying meal served in a warm and friendly environment. You gotta try this place! read more

Really cute place and food was good but the tables are much too close together I felt like we had dinner with complete strangers. Then just when the people next to us leave the waitress asks us to move down a table so they can use our table for a big party coming in. I was a little taken back by that. The food was top notch, as usual, and we were not rushed (especially on a Saturday night). Everyone of our guests are still raving about the French Onion Soup, the service and the hospitality. This place is a hidden gem! Great food. Very family friendly, and the entrées are very tasty! We are foodies and grew up surrounded by many 5 star establishments in Westchester, NY...this place fits the bill. We had a fantastic mussels appetizer. They were simmered in a wine, garlic, and shallot broth. Tender, and the flavors were well balanced. Mussels are our thing, and we try them everywhere we go...very few places do them well. Our entrées were creative and vey flavorful. The service was great, and staff was very accommodating to my children. We also had two of their specials on the nightly menu and they were top notch! The Flank Steak Cuban & The Margherita Cod were cooked excellent. We were pleasantly surprised. We will definitely be back! Everyone needs to try this place. Definitely branch out and try the specials rather than getting a burger (although I am sure their burgers and pub selections are great too!) Awesome selection of premium craft beers and the bartender can make any drink you request. read more

Great place! Great staff! We go there often and usually sit at the high tops by the bar area. Their "Rhode Island" calamari is amazing, as well as their burgers, salads, and deserts. They have a great beer selection also. I highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

Went last night around 530 so got seated right away. Tables are tightly spaced and although it wasn't crowded we were seated right next to another occupied table. That's the only slightly negative thing I can say. Food was really good. Had the roasted veggie sandwich which was tasty. Everyone in our party enjoyed burgers, fish and chips, and fried oysters. Charles A. from Redding's review is laughable (maybe his money could buy him grammar lessons in the use of Whom vs. Who). It is respectable that an owner acknowledges a poor experience with a comped tab. I applaud that effort. 45 minutes for a meal at lunch? Sure, that's not great. But keep in mind, this is a Pub. It's not Charles' Foie Gras Palace. Your comments about car mats, balsamic dressing and the corporate card are...well, yeah...nobody cares. And you're a Reddingite? Of course this review was from last winter...hopefully you gave it another swipe on the corporate card. We just had dinner there for the third time. Order the Fish and Chips. Brand new restaurant, casual but excellent menu and reasonaby priced. Warmly welcomed, told it would take 20 minutes to get a table, but it took only 5. The place was packed, but service waa excellent and the food amazing. Had the ribs which were some of the best I have ever had. Anyway, the place is new and I drive by it every day on my way to and from work so my husband and I decided to give it a try. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty empty so we sat at the bar. Nothing interesting about the menu-- average looking pub food. My husband ordered a chicken sandwich and I ordered the blackened catfish sandwich. As I was waiting for my meal I looked across at the computer behind the bar where I saw a list of specials. A bourbon glazed chicken sandwich I believe it was. Sounded delicious and I probably would have ordered it if the bartender had bothered to tell us there were specials. Portions were small for the price. I really wanted this place to be better, but it just opened so I'll keep an open mind. I just can't see "some of the best ribs I've ever had" coming from a mediocre bar in Georgetown, CT...... read more

Went here with friends who raved about the place. Also read yelp reviews before going. I was expecting some thing great. This place is great for Georgetown but nothing to write home about. The menu is small. I had a difficult time deciding what to get because everything seemed mundane, for example a turkey club. This isn't a diner. I ended up getting the works burger. It comes with bacon, onion, cherry peppers, and choice of cheese. When I got the check, each item was added for an additional cost. The menu shouldn't read the items are included and then charge more. That's what prompted me to write the review. read more

I agree these 5 star reviews have to be fake. The other 1 star review was almost exactly our experience. We called ahead to make sure they could fit our family of 7 adults and one high chair. We got there and they had already given away the 2 high chairs they have (seriously? Only 2?). We waited over an hour for our food - including my toddler's pancakes - some of which was wrong. They did not offer to comp anything and they charged us for food that never came. We also noticed the owner apologizing to other tables for incorrect orders and delays. The owner was apologetic but the waiter was rude. This place is a total kitchen nightmare if I've ever seen one. read more

Been there once, live half mile from here. Change the buns on your burgers!! The buns your using result in a dry tasting burger.
