Overwhelmingly underwhelming & the worst service in Seattle during our week long trip.
This was a restaurant that I had bookmarked to try on a recent trip to Seattle with my mom. We had been bookmarking & trying some of the higher rated restaurants in & around Seattle. The good news is that out of all of the restaurants we tried, this one was the most disappointing. 1 out of a half dozen or so ain't too shabby!
Unfortunately, it was a bad experience from the moment we walked in. The sign at the front told us to seat ourselves & since there were no free tables in the front of the restaurant save for one table that was obviously set up for a group of 8 or 10, we made our way to the back of the restaurant in search of a free table. We were standing at the entrance to the almost empty rear-dining room deciding on which table we wanted when a lady (waitress, hostess??) came up behind me & said, for a party of 4? When I turned to look at who was talking to the back of my head & to explain that it was just 2 of us, I was greeted by a very unfriendly, unwelcoming & confused face. I in turn was so confused by her expression & started feeing like we were doing something wrong, so apologetically I mentioned the sign at the front saying to seat ourselves & asked if that was still correct. I thought that maybe someone had forgotten to change the card to "please wait to be seated" She said no, that's correct but I just want to make sure there's no tables up front. I told her there wasn't, just one big one. She said ok & walked away with an annoyed look on her face. Weird. I used the restroom while my mom went & sat down at the table.
Upon joining my mom, I realized that the previously unknown woman was our waitress. We ordered water with our meal much to her very obvious disappointment. I also asked for ice water with lemon instead of the tiny glass of still water that seems to grace every restaurant table in Seattle! This was like the nail in the coffin for her & her annoyance at my request was palpable.
She left us alone for quite a while to look over the menu & once we had decided on what we wanted, we sat waiting while she made her way to the tables surrounding us answering questions & making pleasant conversation.
She finally came to take our order. We had a couple of questions but it felt like pulling teeth to get any info out of her & she acted almost annoyed when she had to explain a couple of the dishes to us. We decided on the Bacon wrapped scallops, lamb meatballs, cauliflower fritters & the much reviewed broccoli.
The fritters came out 1st. They weren't nearly as hot as I would have liked them to be & since it was about 10 mins before the next item came out, they got much colder. It would have been nice to have things served a bit closer together. The next dish out was the scallops which were incredible. Def the best dish out of all of them. Then about 10 mins later, the lamb & broccoli came out.
The lamb was good although a little on the spicy side which although fine for me, was a bit much for my mom. It would have been nice if that had been mentioned somewhere in the description.
The broccoli was just broccoli. Nothing special. Maybe people up in the PNW don't normally prepare their broccoli this way? but this is the only way I cook my broccoli so I was surprised by the number of reviewers raving about this "amazing" dish lol
After taking our order, our waitress never came back to our table again until right before we were finishing up when I had to practically yell to get her attention as she was leaving the table right next to us!! We had needed water refills for most of the meal so I said if we would get some more water, that would be great. During our meal, she had been visiting all the tables around us, refilling waters, making conversation & asking how the food was, so my mom & I really started feeling like her attitude towards us was personal. It was very odd & I've never experienced anything like this before. We had a very pleasant woman that delivered our dishes to us that I wish had been our waitress.
The bill came out to $46 & change. I left a $50 bill. I have never tipped that poorly in my life but this was service that didn't even deserve that much to be perfectly honest. read more
