I was taken care of by Emilee and she was fantastic. Along with the guy in the kitchen, they had the restaurant flowing at a great pace and no one was forgotten about. I had the one biscuit and gravy and I added two eggs. Delicious! The gravy had a good flavor, the food was hot, and my stomach was satisfied. Came here for Sunday brunch and figured it was a good time to finally try this spot. Parking was super easy since it is part of a larger complex. When we walked in there was a short line to put our name down, but the wait was only about five minutes at 10 am. The restaurant itself has very cozy diner vibes. Once we were seated we got our menus right away. I ordered the chicken sausage egg white scramble with hash browns and gluten free toast which was a small extra charge. The food was fine but definitely felt more like quantity over quality. Nothing bad, just not very memorable. They bring the check to you and you pay up front. Service overall was average. Cleanliness could be better. When taken to our table there were food crumbs on both sides of the booth seats. There was no way that you didn't see the food crumbs on the seating, and the employee didn't take us to another table nor did he have the seating wiped down. Black bear diner is always fun to go to. Fantastic food, good service, beautiful ambiance and environment, it's that good of a diner to go to. I'm also especially glad they brought back the fried chicken dish that was discontinued during covid. The sandwiches and burgers are amazing, the fries are crispy and delicious and the diner is just a bunch of fun to go to. The main problem is the pricing but that's expected. The cooks are lousy. The bacon is half cooked and the egg and county potatoes are cold. The breakfast is not conistant. If you don't complain to the server it is a usually one or the other . Amount of potatoes is inconsistent the eggs are small and when asking for wheat bread they give you brown bread small slices. I have had it . I will go to Danville instead of this Hopyard were they know how to cook! The manager says were out of it , then oh well have some in the freezer. What a line of trap. We came here after our hiking at Little Yosemite in Sonul, California. I came with my wife, my son and his girlfriend. We are celebrating her birthday. We ordered California Omelette, Corned Beef, Bacon Omelette and Sausage Omelette. They are all good and the servings are big so we ended up taking out some. The place is very conducive for dining and the service is very efficient. We gave a 20% tip because we were all satisfied. She always check on us and asking what we need. Went here last night and it was TERRIBLE! Server named abel super old guy green shirt and glasses,WATCH OUT FOR HIM AS YOUR SERVER. Rude, unhelpful, super unprofessional, I assume a manager position he has but he makes the whole place look terrible. He mis charged me for pancakes, food was simply ok and the ambience inside was terrible as he wasn't great and made it feel very tense inside. Stopped here before an event at Tommy Ts Comedy Club. We both got the burger baskets one with fries and one with the onion rings. It had been a long time since I had had a perfect cheese burger but this was it. Toasted bun fresh lettuce and tomatoes . Crispy seasoned fries ( is this a new thing?) and perfectly cooked onion rings. At my local Black Bear when I order the burger basket I get a soggy bun with a hamburger patty that tastes a grade down from the larger burgers on the menu. Our server was good. I took the time to tell the manager (who had been by our table ) how pleased we were. I have not seen a manager at my local Black Bear since before Covid. You get what you pay for. Got the surf and turf, 6oz steak and 3 breaded shrimp. I also got the clam chowder in a cup with corn bread. Clam chowder was warm and delicious. Lots of chunks of potatoes and clam. The corn bread, the top was really sweet. I suggest asking for butter it's a game changer for the corn bread. The onion ring for one of my sides was good, nice crunch from the breading but I had to add salt. The gravy for my mashed potatoes was cold, if warm I would have loved it because it was whipped nicely and flavorful. The cocktail sauce for my shrimp looked like it was in the freezer and was cold. The steak was yummy for what it was, easy to cut and came out medium rare just like I asked. The service was barely passable. We had to remind the waiter for another cornbread 2x and ranch 3x. Young kid so it was expected. Ambiance at a Black Bear Diner is always cute. They have a display of their merchandise, and you feel like you're walking into a log cabin. It was another one of those days undecided what to have for lunch. I usually like something with sauce or gravy so getting into my car driving around and pondering about food. It came down to something like meatloaf of chicken fried steak. Diners commonly offer these type of dish. So Black Bear was it. It was late afternoon, 2ish pm. Not many Carson the parking lot and the dining as such. Getting a table for one was a breezy. In a booth in the middle, it was. After browsing menu, I ordered the Bear Paw Fried Beef Steak with ice tea. They came out relatively quick. The steak was slightly covered with thick white gravy along with the smashed potato. I could have used more gravy. The steak fried coated with ground beef and other ingredient covered with thick gravy was much better with black pepper and hot sauce. There were three level of spiciness self branded bottled sauces. Trying all three. I like the middle level sauce. On the plate was steamed broccoli. It was soft but I liked it anyways. Since this was Bear Paw sized meal, the price was very reasonable at $12.99. Overall, it wasn't the greatness but fulfilling and satisfying. The service was fine, not extremely attentive but friendly when approached. For a simple, no thrills, dining fare on a quiet afternoon. It fit the bill. read more

My BF and I went into Black Bear diner last night for a late night meal. The place was pretty busy for the middle of the week but it was quiet enough that we can hear each other talk. The server made a fresh pot decaf coffee for my boyfriend which was incredibly nice of him, the prices were surprisingly low and you got a lot of food for a low price. Food was delicious, perfect and filling. We ran into the manager who was grateful for our support and we thanked him for a great meal and service, talking to him for a few minutes you can see how dedicated he was to his establishment. The atmosphere of the diner is very welcoming and seems like a great place for families and groups to go to for all meals, especially breakfast and brunch! They really capture the essence of a "black bear diner" with a wooden cabin-esque interior and bear decor all around. The service was really nice and they were constantly checking in on us to make sure everything was alright. We ordered meals for each of us; I got the chicken fried steak eggs benedict and an arnold palmer. The chicken fried steak eggs benedict came with hash brown and a small bowl of fruits. The eggs benedict itself was pretty good, but the hash browns were a bit too dry for me. I mixed them with the hollandaise sauce of the eggs benedict to soften them up. The fruits were a nice refresher after the meal was over. The arnold palmer had a good tang to it and it helped to clear my palette throughout the meal as well. read more
