For mid-morning on a Saturday the wait was minimal. Food came out quick and was delicious! I always ask for crispy bacon and that is what I received. Walking in the place feels pretty good. It has a nice atmosphere and they greet you when you come in so you feel welcome. The newspaper menu is very unique but I don't think it's as effective as it should be. Ordered and didn't wait long but the food was more than a bit disappointing. I am so happy Black Bear Diner has moved into Texas! We first had Black Bear in Sacramento, and every time we went back to visit, always made a point to eat at Black Bear. The pancakes are the best!!! I am in Houston for the week and was pleasantly surprised to see a Black Bear so close to my hotel. Last night, I had tri-tip and eggs. The steak was well seasoned and my I did not leave disappointed or hungry. Tonight I had a sweet cream waffle, just as good as I remembered from Sacramento. Both last night and tonight, I had excellent service, which made my experience even better. The food is very good, the service is excellent, but the desserts especially the chocolate cake. The cake is very dry. No moisture whatsoever just ate there yesterday our third visit. All three visits that we have made there. I have always ordered the Bob's big bear burger. The bun for this big hamburger is not big enough. When you start to eat if you cut the burger in half and start to eat it. It falls apart because the bun is not big enough because they put a lot of lettuce on the burger. Trust me the burger is so big you have to cut it in half that why it it comes to your table with a steak knife stuck in the middle of the burger!!!!!!! But even when you cut it into halves the patty's not the same size all the way around.but it's still the best burger in Pasadena tx there is to eat. I wish I had a job there making the burger better. We all had mixed reviews on the pancakes. I thought they were not good. 2 felt they were alright and 2 others liked them! Hash browns were a hit overall. Uniquely shredded and crisp how I like them without asking. The waitress said their bacon is very good and my son agreed it was the best. We all didn't like that the cheese on our eggs were not melted at all. I like to add if I would come back after my rating. The service was terrible. Our waitress was a big older lady with glasses and she left us with no service for over an hour. We had finished our food and were waiting for to go boxes and our check. They had a texture about them - like a pasty after taste. Idk but I never want to taste grits like that ever again in this life or the next. So, I requested hash browns in place of the grits. The hash browns came out burnt and season-less. I actually never finished the food. The whole meal was subpar. The greeter sat me at a dirty table and just walked away. He was not warm AT ALL. We went to Black Bear Diner for the first time on a Wednesday night. It was pretty quiet and not crowded. I've heard mixed reviews but decided to try it out. I'm glad we did! We ordered "The Grizz" breakfast which was enough for 2 people to share. It came with 2 pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, ham and hash browns. The pancakes were really good! Sweet and fluffy as they should be. The bacon was also very good. I'm picky about bacon. I usually am not a fan of thick-cut bacon but I loved theirs. It was crispy how I like it. Sometimes thick-cut bacon isn't super crispy. I prefer my bacon extra crispy. It was cooked to perfection! The hash browns were cut differently. They were a little bland. They could have used more seasoning but other than that, they were great. I also enjoyed the sausage links. Very flavorful and were browned perfectly. I like that you can order breakfast all day long. My boyfriend loves eating breakfast for dinner. We will definitely be back for breakfast again. I have been reading the reviews for this place for awhile so I decided to try it out. Reminds me of a the Great Wolf Lodge restaurants at the resorts. Nice, and clean even though they didn't pick up dirty dishes quickly after the guests leave. The food was good,, it took a little bit and they weren't busy but for the most part I didn't have anything else to do this day. The chicken noodle soup needed flavor but a little salt and pepper did the trick. The burger was huge, the tri tip had a wonderful taste but I was disappointed with the baked potato. First we had to wait until 4 pm At 3:50 pm to be able to order this dinner item. You could not order the baked potato until 4 pm so I figured it would be fresh and piping hot, wrong... then to top it off I had to pay $1.99 extra for sour cream and cheese which if you look at the potato photo, it barely had any on it and it lacked butter. I didn't want to take a chance of saying anything because I probably would have paid extra for the side again. The table sauces were all great tasting. It was about a 20-25 minute drive that I probably won't do anytime soon. It was worth a try. The iced sweet tea was on point though and the toast that I ordered with the meal was awesome. read more

The food was pretty good however the fruit cup I got was moldy. When I told them about it she got an attitude when she walked away, they did not apologize or take it off our order. When we asked about it they said no and that they would only give us another fruit cup.... Why would I want another fruit cup knowing it all came from the same moldy fruit? Everything else was fine just wish they would have at least apologized for serving moldy fruit and taken it off our order. If a health inspector knew they were selling and serving decaying food ? I paid $31 for this and they still somehow forgot my hashbrowns. MY SUGGESTION for you to improve your service: 1. Hire adults, not young teenagers who cant handle the pressure of restaurant foot traffic 2. Have more than 1 worker at the front desk because that man is obviously NEW and a rookie. After months of Covid and supply chain delays, my wife and I drove by the new Black Bear Diner today and noticed dozens of cars in the parking lot. We were looking to eat breakfast and we were amazed at our luck, so we parked and headed in. The front door had a sign saying they were open for guests by invitation only, so we started to turn around to leave when the manager invited us in. The manager said there would be no charge because today was a soft opening to train employees and prepare for the April 14th actual opening. Let me make clear - my review is based upon the food and service we received and not the free pass. First, the coffee. I like my coffee strong and that's what they serve here - not watered down facsimile of coffee lite. I ordered a sweet cream waffle, 2 scrambled eggs and crisp bacon, with a side of crispy hash browns. Everything was delicious - the waffle was huge, I could only eat half of it, the eggs were nicely scrambled, and the thick bacon had an amazing taste. I really enjoyed the hash browns as well - next time I will ask to add cheese, onions and tomato. Our server was named Mariah and she did an outstanding job of educating us and making suggestions - her service was impeccable! Really enjoyed our meal and experience in a brand new very clean restaurant eager to please - we will definitely be back to and look forward to trying their lunch and dinner menus as well. From an ex servers perspective view, ask the guests if it their first time here since it is a new establishment, give a couple of suggestions, consolidate with your tables in your section so you do not have to make multiple trips, our server never offered dessert and the child had to bring up her free dessert after the check was dropped and last but not least, always check your ticket before you drop it at the table.
