This was my first time dining at this establishment. The hostess looked at myself and my party kind of off as we waited for a seat , not saying hello we will be with you in a moment nothing. Finally we were seated...I was noticing the hostess did acknowledge another party several times smiling and chatting as we waited for someone to notice we been just sitting there. We are non white and ugh this is Baytown, smh. Finally realized this might be the reason! I must say it's EXPENSIVE for cold/ bad food and Horrible SERVICE. We stood waiting for a table about 6 mins or so while the hostess was passing food to other patrons/ and chatting . Finally she the hostess attended in seating my self and three others. She was not polite looked at us pissed off and seemed agitated. I must add we were the only ones in line and it was not crowded. OK , so We were finally seated. It took 20 mins or so before our order was taken. We waited for 45 minutes for our food to be given, and it was cold, not even warm! I asked the hostess also waitresses helper , for an item, yes the one who seated us ... she rolled her eyes and sighed. Clear agitation/frustrated. I told our actual waitress that not only was the hostess not hospitable (RUDE) but our food was cold after the long wait they were supposed to be cooking it. It didn't arrive hot. She said we can reheat the food and the hostess is just overwhelmed. How do you take that out on the patrons... I am paying for my services, my food... and myself and my party are the ones who suffer the wrath.. So At this time as we'd been waiting a VERY long time...we ate the cold food...and accepted the fact we were just give the worst service. For $85 for crappie food and very poor service it is what it is. Just won't ever dine here again. read more

I have only been here two or three times and while the portions are large, the food is very mediocre. I tried a steak breakfast here and the steak was void of seasoning. Very bland. For good breakfast, while I might end up here again, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The restaurant itself looks awesome and the servers are friendly. read more

Donna was an excellent waitress. Service was great, food came out quickly. Nice, hot and fresh. We ordered the southern scramble. Huge portions, we had leftovers for another meal. They have wines, Bloody Mary, micheladas, and mimosas. Plenty of desserts. The ambiance is casual with music playing. They have a jukebox that apparently works and you can choose songs. Large variety on menu. They keep everything clean. Not too busy but enough customers in and out. Plenty of parking. I would visit again. read more

The ambiance is very cabin in the woods lol lots of things made of wood and resemble everything bear. Food portions are usually very good for the price. Pretty much straight forward quick excellent service, got seated in less than 10 minutes on a busy Sunday morning, food quality was good, had the breakfast club melt buttery, and perfectly grilled sourdough bread, and two sweet cream pancakes to top it off. We gave black bear dinner another shot, and it was disappointing again. Today Sunday we stopped by at 3pm. I ordered French toast-bear choice. It was hard as a rock. I couldn't even cut them with my butter knives. They were extremely hard. Food took forever, we did not a refill and no one checked on us. At the end the waiter realized we were there. She apologized and offered a drink to go. But we were already dissatisfied. We usually have a good experience at the Pasadena location. I don't usually write bad reviews--but our recent lunch experience was frustrating enough that I felt it needed to be shared. I've been to this restaurant many times in the past and always enjoyed it, but we hadn't been in a while and decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, it was a complete disaster from start to finish. The hostess, who is always there, still doesn't greet anyone--she won't say a word unless you speak first, which immediately sets an unfriendly tone. Once we were seated, it took about 15 minutes before anyone came by just to take our drink order, and another 30 minutes before someone came to take our food order. We were seriously about to walk out. When the food finally came, our order was wrong--and no one ever came back to check on us. We ended up just eating it because it was clear no one was coming back. The entire staff seems to operate without any table assignments, so servers just float around, which causes situations like ours where we were completely overlooked. When it was time to pay, I mentioned to the hostess (still very unfriendly) that we didn't receive a couple of sides and asked her to remove them. She just said they weren't on the bill anyway, in a dismissive tone. It honestly felt like most of the staff were more interested in chatting in the back than helping customers. This place used to be so much better, but unless some serious changes are made to the service, I won't be coming back. If you're looking for good, friendly service--do not come here. read more

This was my first time at our local Black Bear Diner and I'm a fan. The decor is really cute plus Christmas decorations added to the charm. My breakfast was perfectly prepared and brought to the table in about 10 minutes. Yummy mild breakfast sausage cooked just enough, over easy eggs and light biscuits with gravy. We came here when they first opened. I ordered the meatloaf, usually one of my favorite things. Theirs, however, was not good at all. Black Bear's meatloaf had loads of raw shredded carrots in it - yes, RAW crunchy carrots. Yuck!! Also, I asked for gravy on the side, and instead, gravy was poured all over the meatloaf. Not happy with that, either. My companion's meals were better, so I guess it's hit or miss at this place. Personally, I do not plan to return here. read more

Food is fairly good. The service is awful. They do check on you for 20 mins at a time. Husband had to take coffee cups to them. They brought cold butter for hot pancakes. The butter never melted. Their waitresses are all over the restaurant instead of in sections. lt's not efficient. read more

Cute place. First time at a Black Bear Diner and this one is new. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak from the "Little Less" section. It was plenty. I changed the seasonal veggie to green beans. The steak is a pre-breaded, frozen steak - not made fresh in the diner. It was still good, just not great. Mashed potatoes and green beans were good. Green beans did have bacon bits, southern fashion, not for everyone but I happened to like southern cooking. My husband ordered the big burger...it was big! It does not come w It's cheese, that $2.99 extra. He said it was good. Brought part of it home. Swapped his fries for a house salad which he said was very good. We had a lot of service at a table. One lady was going around refilling the condiment trays which I thought should only be done at empty tables but we accommodated her and added jelly to ours per her request. She was back in a few minutes wanting us to swap the entire tray --- that was a little much. They need to only work on the empty tables as far as setups and cleaning go.
