Decided to try some authentic seafood/cajun food while out in Anahuac. This place seemed promising, nice building (hole in the wall style). Almost ordered a "pimpin" burger but decided to go with the fried shrimp and catfish plate with a side of loaded mashed potatoes. The good: the shrimp was delicious and large size Served a large to-go cup of water, sometimes places give you a tiny little cup. The bad: The catfish was bland and no crunch to it, plus they were tiny pieces, I was expecting two fillets or some thick nuggets. The mashed potato tasted like salt and not much else. The prices, overpriced by about 25% The waitress was mostly nice, but very picky about where she would allow us to sit. I don't know that I would go back, it was okay overall but the overpricing and aloof waitress make it a one time stop for me. read more

Located 1.6 miles off I-10 In Anahuac sits The Crawfish Place. As soon as your foot steps inside you're greeted with genuine "Hey Yall"s and "Welcome in"s by the staff. The decor is laid back sports bar with elegant rustic designs in the restrooms. Neon signs decorate the walls along with multiple TVs playing different sports from drag racing, water sports, football and more. Very family friendly environment during the day. At night I can tell it's a relaxed feel with lots of indoor and outdoor seating and pool tables. They offer a good variety of beers on tap from domestics to IPAs. When coming to eat make sure you come hungry and ready for a to go box. My burger was almost a full pound cooked to perfection. It was piled high with all "the fixins", and I opted to add bacon and fried egg to mine. They definitely don't skimp on the bacon! I got mine served with hush puppies that had just the right amount of seasoning without being overly spicy. Had the pimpin burger, it wasn't bad at all, I asked for medium and the patty was more well done so that sucked but besides that everything was good and portion was more then enough. The service was great and the place looked clean and sanitary. They do charge a 3% fee for using card which is a little absurd since we're in a day and age where people hardly carry cash. BEST CRAWFISH I'VE EVER HAD ! Came in one late night before closing and it was still pretty busy but we were seated right away. The drive to get to the place does seem like you're in the middle of nowhere and you're lost lol. We got the crab stuffed jalapeños. The filling was so flavorful and perfectly fried. We also got the combo that came with crawfish, shrimp, crab, mushrooms, and a sausage. You will see signs that say "we make good food not fast food" and you best believe they do! I personally don't think the wait to get your food is long, it's just perfect, especially knowing that your meal will be and taste fresh! I always start with the sampler basket ( you get to choose 3 of their appetizers listed). My go to's are the cheese curds, similar to cheese sticks but 100x better and cheesier, the fried pickles and the stuffed crab jalapeños. (Omg, this just made my mouth water ) I absolutely love seafood so I always get the fried shrimp. My husband has ordered the fried catfish and is really good as well. Im not a fan of micheladas because I don't like beer but Heather makes some bomb ass micheladas that I can never pass up on! My sister in law ordered this on one of our visits and I've been hooked since. What an excellent dive not far from the 10. From the outside, this would not have been a place I typically would have tried. Seriously, I sat outside and debated going into the older rundown building. I am so glad I did. We had fried crawfish and blackened shrimp that was excellent. We had tons of nicely seasoned appetizers. The fried green beans were great. There were lots of locals and many local beers on draft. While there is no ambiance in the bar/restaurant, check out the bathrooms. Both the women's and men's have different styles and if the restaurant was taken care of as thoughtfully as the restrooms, it would be an upscale experience. Came here after visiting Anahuac NWR. Restaurant seemed to be the only non commercial one around! Very happy to find them. Inside was beautiful. Decorated very nicely and they had a nice lineup of beers on tap. Food was very good! Salad was fresh and jalapeño ranch was spicy. Ribeye sandwich was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Gumbo had great depth and flavor! Servers could have been more welcoming and attentive. We were forgotten about and barely spoken to, but the food was excellent so we left satisfied. This is my go to place for crawfish. They have all you can eat which is worth it in my opinion bc their crawfish is the best I've had and if your like me you can eat your weight in crawfish. I'm a crawfish junky I literally try to eat it every weekend of crawfish season. The other menu items are good too, plus they have a huge selection of craft beer. Love love love this place!!! The food and customer service are average. The drinks are massive and so are the portions of food. The food is all pretty heavy but it's good to fill you up. It's a fairly loud place. There's pool and a digital dart board. The only down side is they smoke indoors because it's a bar atmosphere. It can get pretty smokey and smelly but in the time it takes you to get your food you should get used to it. Overall I liked the food, the service was lacking nothing but the bare minimum check up and a cold response when we asked for a to go box. Actually it's a "ZERO" stars review.. Their road signs are all over the place promising the best grill in the area. After a difficult search to find this place, we had what may be the worst dinning experience's ever. It is a Bar and Grill so when we walked in, the place reeked of smoke. People smoke there. So we ate outside. After ordering our meal (fried oysters, and fried crawfish tails), we waited for what we thought was going to be a tasty meal only to get meager portions of overcooked food. We asked for water, and got bottled. Our meals were lacking of taste. All the taste was about the taste of breading. We believe the oysters and crawfish tails were frozen. The food was simply beer snacks. Quite expensive snacks though. The waitress never brought us a check. No explanations why. She simply came over and told us that our dinner was $23.32. Both portions were $9 and some cents each. We never got our receipt. Looked like someone simply made some pocket money on our order. I am proud of my husband that he didn't leave any tips. They didn't deserve any. It's been several hours since we ate, and we can still feel and taste burnt oil (grease?) they cooked our dinner with. Crab balls and Boudin balls were a little too bready for my taste. House made pork rinds were good. We were the only non-locals in here at lunchtime on a Friday which was great for some local flavor.
