I stopped by here yesterday morning with my family for some coffee. While I had already had a cup…read moreearlier that morning, I couldn't pass up this Island Coffee spot with its giant ramps leading both up to and down from the shop on stilts. As we were driving past, I pulled over and got in line for some coffee. The line here moved relatively slow, and I would guess we waited around ten minutes for the car in front of us to vacate. Once we got to the top, I ordered a pecan latte while my wife and father-in-law each had a yogurt with granola. The lady working the window told me the coffee wouldn't be sweet, which was fine by me after a previous sugar bomb of a pecan latte elsewhere. Our order ended up being quicker than the person in front of us, and we were back down the ramp in only about five minutes or so. As for the flavor of my coffee, I really enjoyed the pecan taste. It was strong and straightforward without being sweet, which I appreciated. The coffee itself was very present as well, though to me it tasted more like drip than espresso. Still, it tasted good, and I was more than happy to finish it. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I enjoyed my pecan latte here and appreciated that it wasn't sweet.

OMG, what a wonderful find for my wife and myself as we were making our way back to Brenham from…read moreCrystal Beach. The cafeteria style option or having hamburgers brought to your table. What a great idea; my wife and I each opted for cheeseburgers I had french fries she had onion rings, both the fries and an onion rings are hand battered. my wife and I agreed that these are possibly the best hamburgers we have had in at least a year and a half. I'm not sure where they get their hamburger buns, but they are fantastic. Upon leaving the restaurant, we found out that my wife and the manager have common ties to Brenham in terms of having common friends in the BISD school district. The theme of the restaurant definitely teeters on the Texas A&M mystique; me being a so called Tea Sipper(University of Texas alum) I took it all in stride because I know of the Aggie traditions. Lots of artwork in the restaurant as well as on exterior walls, reflecting the Aggie culture; we will definitely keep this place in mind when we travel back-and-forth from the Port Bolivar Peninsula.

On my continued search to find my favorite (not necessarily the best ) avocado toast, I found…read moremyself today at JWilson's Restaurant. As always, the restaurant was packed--which is always a great sign that something good is happening in that kitchen! My waitress, Bailey, was sweet, attentive, and very accommodating, making the experience even more enjoyable. I started with a cup of their famous tomato bisque, and let me just say... I simply cannot come here without ordering it. This heartwarming soup, made with slow-roasted tomatoes, shrimp stock, cream, and Creole seasoning, is rich, comforting, and truly soothing to the soul. It remains my absolute favorite--if you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it! For my entrée, I ordered the Avocado Multi-Grain Toast. It's a light and satisfying plate featuring mashed avocado spread over thinly sliced multi-grain bread, served with your choice of sausage or bacon, an egg cooked your way, and a fresh tomato and cucumber salad. Everything on the plate was well-prepared and very tasty. If I could make one small personal tweak, I would love to see this served on a thicker slice of buttery toasted sourdough, maybe with a sprinkle of feta on top. That's just my personal preference and how I enjoy my avocado toast--others may find this version just right as is! The search continues for my perfect avocado toast, but this was a delicious and enjoyable stop along the way. Happy Sunday, and keep sharing those amazing finds on Best Bites!

On my most recent visit, I sat at the bar and started with a Buffalo Trace bourbon while looking over the menu. The bartenders here are always attentive and welcoming; in fact, the bartender remembered me from previous visits, which speaks volumes about the level of service they provide. Dinner was a ribeye cooked medium-rare with asparagus, and it was exactly what a good steak should be: perfectly cooked, with great flavor, and served hot. The kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. I followed that with their lemon icebox dessert and a lemon drop, both excellent, and finished the evening with a Four Roses Small Batch Select for a nightcap. What really sets J Wilson's apart is the staff's consistency and professionalism. The bartenders, servers, and kitchen team all seem to work together smoothly and take pride in the experience they deliver. Even on a busy night, with spring break crowds and daylight saving time throwing schedules off, the service remained attentive, and the food came out exactly right. If you're looking for a reliable steakhouse in Beaumont with excellent steaks, a strong bourbon selection, and top-notch service, J Wilson's is hard to beat. Five stars. Always a great experience.
