There were 6 cars in front of us and we waited about 45 mins. They also premake biscuits so they run out very quick but there was no sign so we didn't find out until we made it up to order.

As we were driving past, I pulled over and got in line for some coffee. The line here moved relatively slow, and I would guess we waited around ten minutes for the car in front of us to vacate. Once we got to the top, I ordered a pecan latte while my wife and father-in-law each had a yogurt with granola. The lady working the window told me the coffee wouldn't be sweet, which was fine by me after a previous sugar bomb of a pecan latte elsewhere. Our order ended up being quicker than the person in front of us, and we were back down the ramp in only about five minutes or so. As for the flavor of my coffee, I really enjoyed the pecan taste. It was strong and straightforward without being sweet, which I appreciated. The coffee itself was very present as well, though to me it tasted more like drip than espresso. Still, it tasted good, and I was more than happy to finish it. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I enjoyed my pecan latte here and appreciated that it wasn't sweet.

The problem was all regarding service and customer interaction. The server seemed not interested in doing her job or Just because she's young. My coffee cup had lipstick on it. She did replace it but never gat asked if we wanted refills. She also asked what bread we wanted with our meals and said we could get white toast, a biscuit or even a pancake. She did not tell us the pancake as our choice of bread would be up charged. I ordered hash browns they brought out the home fries instead, they did send out some hash browns to make it right. Then these people have the audacity to put tip suggestions of 30, 25, and 20 percent. Uh, come on. Nothing in that joint comes close to warranting a 30 percent tip. All that said the food was good and I would go back but based on the lack of personality and eagerness from the waitress our first impression wasn't great. So, you want a good tip, act like it, refill drinks, get the order right, inform customers of extra charges. The wait for the food wasn't long but the wait to pay did as she never bought us the check some guy just asked if we were ready to pay so we went up there and did. Then he tried to rush my wife into pushing the pay button before she had a chance to read the screen to see what exactly was being charged.

The place was pretty full the 2 times we visited recently, even at 5:30 pm. The first time we ended up being seated near the entrance to the rest room, so there was a continuous stream of people going by yesterday. No Bueno. We started with drinks, and ordered chips and salsa. Yes, they charge for this, but the chips are really good. On our first visit this time I ordered a blackened fish po boy combo, which was a half sandwich, fries, and choice of gumbo. My husband ordered a roast beef po boy with fries and potato salad. I love a good gumbo. The cup of seafood gumbo that came with my meal had plenty of shrimp and fish, but the roux bordered on burned. My sandwich was overly salty, but the fries were excellent. I had peach sweet tea, which was very refreshing. My husband enjoyed his beef po boy. It came with dipping sauce. There was no skimping on the amount of meat in his sandwich. On our 2nd visit this trip we asked to be seated in a quiet area. It was much better. We had salads... grilled chicken for him, taco salad for me. We really enjoyed our meals. If we return to Winnie, we will give Tia Juanita another try. But we'll be sure to insist on being seated away from the rest rooms.

You can't miss it, the brightly painted exterior with the name of the restaurant in big letters along the roof is impossible to miss. We arrived at around 1:15 so the usual lunch crowd had thinned out and we got a table for the 8 of us right away. Our server took drink orders while we all checked out the menu. Tia Juanita's Fish Camp serves a mix of Cajun/TexMex and great seafood all rolled into one! While we were tempted to order an appetizer of fried alligator balls, we opted to just proceed with lunch as we hoped to be ahead of early rush hour traffic back in Houston. I ended up trying a cup of the Seafood Gumbo, it was perfectly made with a decent amount of shrimp and other seafood, nicely flavored gumbo broth and a small amount of rice to pull it all together. After that I had the Shrimp Quesadillas. Other members of our group got fish or fish tacos, seafood enchiladas and other tasty things and everyone agreed the food was great with large portions. You want seafood? Well they don't skimp on the seafood in your order, it's virtually popping out of your tacos! Our server was great and took care of each of us, when she brought out the separate checks she delivered them to each person correctly and then returned credit cards to each without a mistake. The restaurant is brightly decorated, hardly a square inch of free space on the walls! This place is definitely worth the trip or pulling off of the freeway as you drive by.
