We sat outside on this beautiful spring day! It was 61 degrees and they offered outdoor dining with sun/shade/heater options. Aaron was our waiter and was very attentive despite having nearly every table outside. He was good about checking in on us and provided excellent recommendations. We ordered 4 pounds of crawfish at $6.99 per pound (mild/asian style). The crawfish were cooked to perfection and tossed in a delicious Asian garlic sauce. We also ordered the $8.99 blackened shrimp Cajun pasta which was a great portion and came with two slices of garlic bread (highly recommend). I ordered from the wrong place, but I'm always willing to give a place a try. In this case, I wish I hadn't. It's indeed a shack in the worst possible way. When I found my way to the bar for my carryout, I was appalled! I'm sure they have kitchen violations because the place looked filthy! The pictures they show online must be ENHANCED b/c the fried fingers looked like they came from baby crab, the crab stuffed mushrooms tasted like they used canned cream of chicken for gravy and definitely IMITATION CRAB in the dish. It was disgusting. The platter with catfish (4 VERY SMALL PIECES), fried baby shrimp, 3-4 VERY SMALL chicken fingers and French fries that tasted like old grease and/or fried twice. Either way this entire place should be THROWN OUT!!? Lastly, the female bartender had the worst foul talking mouth I've heard in a while. There was no customer service. I got a pasta dish tonight. It was amazing! My husband ordered 12 grilled shrimp and was given a grilled fish, shrimp and veg plate by mistake (waitress rang up wrong, no problem). She corrects order and someone else delivers plate but it only had 6 shrimp. By the time hubby gets his meal. I've eaten half of mine. Not a single apology from the waitress sadly. I came here for a happy hour shrimp special. The shrimp were not that special but the biggest issue was the place smelled like dead fish or shrimp. It was very difficult to be there and I have a poor sense of smell. There were not many people in the bar area. I think I may have missed some additional seating but that is an issue in itself if it was hard to find the best place to be seated. I probably would have still chosen the same area. The staff was friendly and the specials look good but I'd probably go elsewhere in the future. After a whole day of playing at Kemah boardwalk, I was looking forward to getting some crawfish! I was seated really quickly and opted for the upstairs seating- there are a handful of comfy booths! I got the "G Style Flavored Pot" which came with 3 pounds of crawfish and 1 pound of shrimp! The shrimp was exceptionally large and fresh! And the portion is good for 2-3 people! I have mixed feelings about this place. Firstly, it's a swamp shack. Does it look and feel the cleanest? No not really lol. But is it a good place to eat? Yes it is. They have a whole variety of foods and I do like oysters, the oysters on the half shell are good, and so far after eating I haven't had any stomach aches so that's also a good sign. I also like the crawfish, I am a baby when it comes to spice so I got mine with no spice and it was just perfect. I usually come here after my family makes the day trip to kemah. They have a live band(sometimes just man) playing downstairs and you have the option to sit inside or outside. I'm not gonna lie, sometimes just being in there makes me lose a bit of my appetite. It doesn't necessarily look the most appealing to the eyes, but again with a name like swamp shack I shouldn't be anywhere near surprised. Also, in order to get to the indoor seating there is a stair case, so your only option if you're in a wheelchair is to eat outside. The stairs are pretty steep and I usually hit my heel on the back of the step, so be careful on your way back down. read more

We did see other workers, even maybe a manager but no one would even attempt to help her take care of six tables. The waitress worked her but off without ant help. "Very bad management". When we finally got out food, it was not the quality of food the Swamp Shack is known for, and it took a very long time to get our second round of drinks. I usually come here once a year, if that. When my friend comes in from out of town, this is where his family likes to gather and eat crawfish. We usually come on the weekend around opening. The later it gets, the more crowded it gets. It has a nice patio and they usually have live music on the weekends. There's plenty of parking out front and a lovely view of the marina and the Kemah boardwalk. Every time I've come I've had good customer service. The food is ok. To me it's more of a socializing place. The food is not bad by any means, but there's nothing I would drive out of my way for. They have a good drink selection. A lot of huge, sugary, novelty cocktails. Desserts are ok too. Overall, a decent spot when in the area. It beats a lot of the chain restaurants on the boardwalk for sure! read more

I've been here a few times, mostly for a few beers and the atmosphere. The food is decent enough, but the ambiance, music and cold beer is the main reason for me to visit this place. November 20, 2021 Family from Beaumont and a local friend came to meet me for a late lunch for my (almost) 60th BD; I live in Galveston. They came with party supplies (balloons galore) and a big BD Great American chocolate cookie...yes!! We had appetizers: fried crab legs, pickles and cheese sticks along w/seafood nachos (All excellent) Me and my friend shared the big fish bowl drink, the "shark shack" ($31) it had rum/pineapple in it...it was tasty but not enough alcohol for that size drink and that price. Sam (female) was our server...and Lisa was the manager who had talked w/my mom several times prior to our arriving (deets about my BD surprise) both were awesome (we gave them some of my BD sweets) They had a singer playing guitar...we bought him a beer! (We do right by waitstaff and local artist) Entrees: grilled fish, gumbo, spicy boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, fish, onion rings, and hush puppies. Also, seafood enchiladas and a cheeseburger w/bacon, "the in-bred" (they forgot. And, I forgot it came w/jalapeño's soo I didn't ask or get them) Ok...out of all the entrees...ONLY my cheeseburger, grilled fish and the spicy boiled shrimp were tasty. Everything else was meh! The fried foods didn't have enough seasoning (flavor) and the enchiladas (looked fantastic) but tasted not bland just not that mmmm, good flavor. I tasted them and they tasted like the seafood had once been frozen, thawed, cooked and smothered in a cream sauce. The crab was imitation too...if it wasn't...it tasted like it was. All the appetizers were delicious...soo, add that to the few entrees that were yum...none of thought it was enough for any of us to ever go back. I drove by Crazy Alan's Swamp Shack at Bay Area and saw a guy displaying a sign in front of restaurant saying: "Free appetizer with entree." Talk about bait and switch. Once we got inside they would not honor free appetizer even though guy at that very moment was holding the sign right at their front door saying free appetizer with entree. They said the free appetizer could not be used with any specials even though that was not posted on the sign. The manager did not even apologize nor did he give us the free appetizer with the order of 4 shrimp tacos. It appears to me to be false advertisement. That is just wrong and definitely poor customer service. It is not right to get you inside the door and then have exceptions. It should have been posted on the sign that was held up outside. I had thought maybe there was small print on the bottom of the sign and I did not see it, but that was not the case. It did not say any exceptions. We are midway through our big ass bowl of crawfish and there's a fat roach bug in our bowl. Cooked up with our crawfish staring at me in the bowl. We take it out and show our server (shoutout Jacob he was a real one) he takes it to his manager. This manager comes back and proceeds to essentially tell us there's not much he can do and says "we can't get them all" HUH?? Now listen, in my years of eating crawfish I have never had a fat brown bug in my bowl. I understand that crawfish is caught naturally in the swamp, but are we not sorting through them? Definitely a step above the average house salad. The cup of gumbo was spot on, above average for sure, and my family is from Louisiana. I had onion rings, which were freshly made, hot and crispy. Not much of a catfish eater but the piece I had was fried just right. The shrimp, despite the server saying they were jumbo, they were medium at best, but cooked and seasoned well. Hit or miss. I used to love their crawfish but the last couple times I have visited, they have been dirty AF. Sad to see them not care about one of their biggest money makers. The food and atmosphere was good but the service not so much. They weren't that busy and was there for me very 2 hours because we only saw our waitress every 30 minutes or so. Don't get me wrong, she was very nice but had to remind her of my drink and food. My husband even got tired of waiting for her to pick up our payment and got up to go pay for it. We still gave her a minimum tip (18%) because I know how they live off of their tips because I used to wait tables. She got more than she earned. When you see people come in after you got there and get their food and leave before you even get your check then something is going on. Oh did I mention that another waiter took our payment.....smh! Didn't know the place had inside seating or else I would've sat inside due to the weather just being windy and raining here and there. Prices were decent. So the FIASCO THAT WAS on I-10 that is no longer. If I could have gave it a negative mark, it would have been done! That was then and this is now. Let's talk atmospheres: very Louisiana swamp shack vibes and right under the 146 Highway bridge. The Eagle was a nice classic rock touch. I bobbed my head all night. Originally, I had my order planned out but the audible came quickly. The menu is cajun themed and reads of an action movie....fast and loud! Read it before you get to the restaurant! I sat at the bar to avoid waiting in line which didn't matter for it was early evening. Shout out Jake the bartender and management. Now, usually you see an African American (The Only One siting at the bar on a Saturday night) they treated me like a regular and checked on me regularly. Good job! And now. My order. Drinks: Bloody Maries were dark and strong. Appetizer: The Shrimp Cocktail was interesting. Chunky and tasty. Main Course: Blackened Texas Red Snapper with black eyed peas and garlic taters. Didn't need any extra seasoning(The salt and pepper shakers felt neglected) Desert: Crown Royal Bread Pudding. Not too sweet and not your grandmas but good still.
