After all day Fordyce snow wheeling, and still with another 3 hours drive to get home, this Black Beat Diner was the perfect place for a quick hot meal with our wheeling buddies. This place is quite busy! We were lucky not to wait long for our table. We got a very spacious booth with cool bear arts and comfortable sitting. The ambiance was warm and fun. Everyone looked happy and enjoyed their meals! This place served the traditional American dinners. Great value! Lots of food with very tastey prime ribs, bbq ribs, and tri Tip! Thanks to our waiter, Tyler, we had such a fun dinning time this night. Tyler got our orders perfectly. Both drink and food arrived fast! We were too stuffed to the gills with our entrees to Eat dessert, but they look totally amazing! It's a very nice hangout place with friends and family. Will come back soon! read more

We're lucky we've got Black Bear! Love their portions, foods great, staffs the best! It never disappoints!

I was at this restaurant with a large group for breakfast/lunch. Our server was Rudy, and she did a great job at being at being efficient and keeping us in check. Our food was delivered in a reasonable time and everyone got their orders swiftly and they were all right!! Not one person in the group did not enjoy their meal. I'm a french fry critic!! My fries were hot, crispy and delicious!! The tuna melt was great too. read more

My family and I have loved Black Bear since we discovered it years ago in Yreka, CA. We were so excited when it finally cane to Auburn! It is a great place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner! The food is always delicious and the atmosphere is very homey! Be sure to ask for Rudy when you go for bk or lunch! She's the best! We go at least once a week! read more

It's good everytime. California burger was bussin. Girl with the black hair and the glasses in the evening is very sweet :)) good for when you're not sure where to go for dinner read more

We had breakfast today and I must say this was the most awful breakfast we have ever had. My plate had grease dripping off the edge, coffee tasted as if it was sitting for hours, only one glass of water, no refills. The sausage tasted as if (ABC) had already been chewed, nasty taste. The country fried potatoes tasted as if the grill or oil was old and had a strange taste. The restaurant was not in a rush , there were about 10 people total. I have not been there for about 2 years , very disappointed, I remembered it as good food and yes no tip was left. Will not be returning. read more

They forgot we were there for 30min. No one took our order even though we kept reminding everyone we are ready to order. Eventually we just gave up and left. Worst way to start your day on a holiday :( read more

The hubby and I went to Black bear diner. We had by far the most amazing waitress EVER! Kyah was attentive and personality galore! We absolutely loved her. Food was great as well. We will be back! Kudos to Kyah read more

Took my mother here for Thanksgiving. I realized it wouldn't be a truly home cooked meal but having eaten here in the past I was pretty optimistic. The traditional turkey dinner we both ordered was unfortunately disappointing. The plates seemed to have been pre prepared and placed under a heat lamp. The vegetables, while tasty were so soft they almost needed to be eaten with a spoon. The turkey and mashed potatoes had gravy added before being placed under the heat lamp, easy to tell as a light skin had formed on the gravy. The meal overall was not hot just warm. The service was great and staff attentive just disappointed with the meal. read more

Disappointed . We usually really enjoy the fish and chips. We love the light crispy batter. We just had them 2 week ago and we're looking forward to them tonight. Not this time. Could definitely tell these were not the same. These were breaded and not battered. Really wish we would have been told they didn't have their usual fish. We would have changed up our order and been satisfied. read more

Black Bear in Auburn is back!! They have new management and what a difference it has made food quality great again and so is the service. Faith in this restaurant has been restored!! read more

This restaurant is my go-to choice in Auburn. I am always greeted with a smile and warm greetings from the personnel I know. They even ask me if I want a menu when they know I have it memorized. Their breakfasts are legendary, always exceeding your expectations, and their salads always involve a take-away box because of their generous size. The men and women who work there are extraordinary! Many are college students, and as such, are warm and funny, the others are true professionals, who strive daily to make your visit a great dining experience. The manager, Diahann, is the hardest working manager I have ever encountered. She is the expediter, the waitress, the cook, the orderer, the busser, the cleaner and whatever she needs to be to provide the most top-notch experience possible. Everyone helps everyone else, regardless of station or need. I have NEVER had an empty coffee cup. Special shout out to Lisa who is the Mama Bear of the staff, always there with a smile and genuine concern for your satisfaction. Cannot forget all the other players, either; Elaina, Giles, Dawn, Bob, Christian, Jacob, Katy, et al. If you are looking for the perfect restaurant experience, Go to this wonderful restaurant!!! read more

We have been regulars here for the last five years. Service has always been fantastic & food fresh & huge portions. We arrived for dinner about 2 weeks ago. I was greated & seated while my husband used the restroom. He was not greeted but joined me at the table. It had been a Long day, and we hadn't had a meal. We waited unusually long for service, until we noticed a couple across from us being waited on...they had come in after us. There were employees chatting, but no one seemed to notice us....for the first time ever, we walked out. On our previous recent visit, we noticed that things seemed chaotic & lacking management & the food was inconsistent with what we used to get...missing flavor, smaller portions. We had just stopped at a Black Bear about a week earlier in Tracy. The contrast was immediately apparent.... polite, very quick service & the quality of the food was far superior to the Auburn BB. We are truly sad to see the disappointing service & food quality of late in Auburn because this was a great place for a good meal, friendly service, consistancy and value for Seniors...please look into management and better cooks & kitchen help. read more

What's not to like. It's one of our go to breakfast joints with the family here in Auburn. Kid friendly with personable staff. Food is always spot on. They have plenty of room for larger groups and booths for privacy. They have a large lot for parking with easy access from the freeway. Enjoy! read more

Such a great find! As many hotels were sold out in Grass Valley we looked elsewhere and ended up in Auburn. Lucky for us, as we stumbled onto this gem of a restaurant. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. We ended up eating here both nights and had the lite meal pot roast and meat loaf and the tri tip dip, which were really good! The sheer volume of food is amazing! We also had pie for dinner one night and yep, definitely recommend. The staff greeted us as soon as we walked in and sat us immediately and asked what we would like to drink. Before the waitress could even get to our table, our drinks were there. Our meals were served very timely, almost too quickly as we were still reading the story about the place. We had the pleasure of interacting with Catherine, Hunter, Conor and Shiloh, they are definitely an asset to the business. I felt comfortable and well taken care of. We will look for other Black Bear Diners for sure and would definitely eat here again if I was ever in the area. On a side note, I read a few reviews that criticized the staff and the length of time to get the food. We were there on a non busy time, but I can't imagine that the staff would not be as professional or accommodating even if they were busy. From what I saw, they treated each customer as if they were family. My thoughts are if you are at a restaurant during a busy time, be patient and be nice. read more

The food was not good I got the bacon cheeseburger it hade no sauce at all. My cole slaw dryer than the Sahara desert. The service was substandard and slow for instance, we ask for straws three times in 30 minutes and we could not get water to save us read more

Stopped here on the drive to Tahoe & had a great dinner for a super fair price! We got two entrees plus a dessert for less than $30, and the ambiance is super kitschy/fun. Pretty comparable to a IHOP/Chili's crossover with lots of mountain themed decor. Will definitely come back! read more

Food is ok... but Manager treats employees like shit, sweet peas on Luther rd is way better

3 star average for a Black Bear location? Perish the thought!! Ok so some of the other locations are legend when one travels up 5 into Oregon and Washington. I've always adored the ones in Medford, Redding, and Mt. Shasta. However, this location is awesome! The food you can count on being tasty and the portions are huge. Sure, the price seems to have gone up in recent years at the chain as a whole, but I'll gladly put up with that for excellent food and service. Wade and Elaina are awesome! Always smiling and taking care of their customers. Like BLTs? Order yourself a BLAST. One of my all time BB favorites. Bacon Lettuce Avocado Swiss Tomato. BAM. read more

I feel the need to update my viewpoint toward this diner. It's loud and chaotic, and I found a strip of plastic in my taco salad from what appeared to be a lettuce bag or something (fortunately I discovered this extra before taking a bite). However, the service was wonderful, and I am SO impressed with the supervisor in charge of food expediency. This girl is BAD ASS! She is on it, forceful and rightfully so-but a strong leader who gives compliments when they are earned. Her kitchen staff busts ass and she is a true leader. I was so impressed that I almost offered her a job as my assistant coach on my basketball team lol. My server informed me that she was going to have a baby, so I sure hope she comes back following her delivery. Black Bear hired a great motivator when they found this gal. My meal tasted fine, was plentiful and I just loved the service. From the host/hostess, to the food runners, to the management-way to ramp it up Black Bear. I'll totally be back. read more

Great Food and Amazing Service. It is Under new Management and Aaron was Amazing.

I am a huge fan of the Black Bear Diner chain. I look at their list of locations to scratch off a new one I've eaten at. When I was driving home to Sacramento from the Reno area I skipped the thought of eating in Reno to try out this new location. I'm very happy I did. The restaurant was busy like any other Sunday night. We were greeted with a smile and promptly seated. Our waiter was polite prompt and friendly, he even threw in some jokes. The milkshakes are consistent through out all of their locations. Hucklebeary is a must try. Our food came out shortly after we received our shakes. Food was fresh cooked right and very presentable. Our waiter checked in on us regularly. The place was clean, the music was on loud enough to hear but not enough to drown out my thoughts or conversation. I am happy to scratch this location off my list of places to visit and will be looking forward to future visits when passing by. read more

I love the cozy decor. Unfortunately the food quality has gone down the last couple times I've been there. The poached eggs were good. The sausages - old, greasy, barely warm, pancakes- too sweet. No manager to be seen, Sunday evening. Sad because I really liked this place. read more

I really liked the eggs Benedict California style and the potatoes were good as well. I was disappointed with the service. A couple of people attended on me which seemed odd and their lack of presence was obvious. When I went to pay my bill I had to wait a bit. And it wasn't busy. read more

We went here on a whim. Great food and great service. I had 3 egg omelets with mushrooms and pepper jack cheese and it came with hashbrowns. My husband had the fish over the spinach. It was really good . While having food like this , I can feel greasy afterwards. This time I didn't. Every thing was reasonable priced and yummy. We rate it above a Denny's. read more

Do I really have to give a rating? Yes that bad. Got ignored for 20 minutes. Then some kid that had been wiping off tables came to take our drink order. I let him know we were ready to order, and let him know that we wanted prime rib . He said he is going to see if there is any left. This is when the fun begins. The waitress showed up with our drinks. Water and orange juice . She said there was only an end piece left, and tried to sell me on skirt steak. I'll admire she did stay positive and tried to sell it , but by then we were done. Payed for the juice and we were on our way! Sorry I guess you have a mixed bag of reviews but our expectations were let down. read more

It's time to hire more people or figure out your staffing shortages. We shouldn't have to wait 10-15 minutes when the place is empty because you "only have one server and one cook." That excuse is old now. Also, why don't you actually stay open for your posted hours. Closing at 8pm because "the cook is tired" is a terrible excuse. Running out of soda cups (when the place is empty) is ridiculous. Hire a dishwasher. I figured these issues would have been fixed by now, but they sure aren't. Time to get your act together. Two stars is only because the food is decent. read more

Just ok... Some of the food was good (such as the sausage and eggs Benedict) and some was subpar (such as the pancakes and hash browns). The environment was nice. 1 staff member was very polite and another was a little irritated at first.
